Abstract:
The paper considers an issue of extending the service life of eight-axle tank cars for alkylbenzenesulfonic acid by modernization of car design. The modernization included technical diagnostics of cars with basic design, repair or replacement of car parts and equipment, calculations and tests of modernized car design. During the technical diagnostics of cars the authors carried out a statistical analysis of failures, determined a speed of corrosion of car elements in operation and predicted a residual service life. On the basis of results of technical diagnostics the authors created a finite element model of the car, formulated normative calculations and carried out necessary tests on natural samples of cars. As a result, calculations and tests confirmed the reliability of gained data, justified the service life of the modernized car design.

Abstract:
The article discusses the approach to the implementation and use of an expert system for servicing passenger cars using the example of Mercedes cars. After analyzing the development of trends in artificial intelligence, we came to the conclusion that one of the main directions in this area is real-time expert systems. The direction of expert systems is the development of programs that, when solving difficult tasks for a human expert, obtain results that are not inferior in quality and efficiency of solutions obtained by an expert. This approach allows you to create almost any online diagnostic complexes faster than using traditional methods. An important direction in the automotive industry is an accurate and reliable forecast assessment of the main indicators of reliability and serviceability of the car as a whole. Technical diagnostics is an integral part of the technological processes of acceptance, maintenance and repair of vehicles at service stations and is a process of determining the technical condition of the object of diagnosis with a certain accuracy. Purpose of the work: to reveal the essence of the expert approach at the present stage of development of diagnostic systems when servicing passenger cars. The theme of the work is revealed by the example of a modern diagnostic complex with elements of an expert system for diagnosing Mercedes cars. In particular, the work of Star Diagnosis software, which ensures the success of car diagnostics, is considered. A complex, a service specialist, or an expert system has the ability to analyze the condition of the car, the severity of the malfunction, and select methods for repairing the car without having a car at the service station. Ultimately, based on the development of electronic systems and the number of executing elements of various control units in the car, if possible, output a huge amount of information that we can use when servicing it, we can conclude that today the prospect of the development of expert methods and means of diagnosing cars using expert systems is very promising.

Abstract:
Recent years have seen a surge in the use of automotive telematics. Telematics is the integration of telecommunications and informatics technologies. Using telematics in cars enables transmission of data communications between the car and other systems or devices. This opens up a wide range of possibilities, including the prospect of conducting remote diagnostics based on real-time access to the vehicle. Yet, as with any new technology, alongside its potential benefits, the use of automotive telematics could also have potential downsides. This Article explores the significant negative impact that the growing reliance on telematics systems could have on competition in the market for repair services. Our analysis highlights two main areas where the use of telematics for vehicle diagnostics may pose a threat to competition and consumer choice. First, we focus on the manner by which manufacturers communicate with their customers via the telematics system. Due to the special relationship between car manufacturers and their consumers, which is often based on trust and loyalty, alongside the “captive audience” status of drivers, we argue that communications emanating from the car’s telematics system could be deceptive. Second, we explore the negative impact that the shift away from on-board diagnostics to telematics could have on independent repair shops’ access to diagnostic information. Fortunately, the law can adapt to keep pace with these new technological and commercial developments. This Article articulates the combined multi-prong, multi-agency policy approach needed to maintain an effective right to repair cars in the new age of telematics. Among other things, our analysis supports an update of state consumer protection legislation and an increased policing by the Federal Trade Commission of practices employed by car manufacturers. In addition, we highlight the need to consider certain amendments to intellectual property laws that effectively aid car manufacturers in maintaining exclusive control over their telematics systems and diagnostic data.

Abstract:
A solution to the Car body fault self-diagnostics based on CAN bus is developed. It completes the fault diagnosis communication between the body controller and the diagnostic apparatus by treating the ISO15765-2 as the network layer, and the ISO14229 as the diagnostic application layer. The parameters and services of the two standards are customized to the needs and characteristics of the body control system. Finally, the diagnostic programs of the corresponding body control module and the upper computer are compiled and tested. Satisfactory results are achieved.

Abstract:
The practical problems that usually come up during the on-vehicle testing of motor car shock absorbers have been discussed. Results of example tests carried out to the EUSAMA standard procedure were compared to the test results obtained with using newer methods, i.e. the phase angle method and half power bandwidth method (HPBM). The issue of incompatibility of the typical excitation applied by diagnostic suspension testers with one that often occurs in the road conditions has also been raised. It has also been shown that the wear of shock absorbers may affect the value of braking deceleration of cars with ABS (anti-lock braking system) when moving on uneven ground.
The main objective of the work was to assess usefulness and reliability of various diagnostic methods intended for the on-vehicle testing of car shock absorbers.

Abstract:
Since 2014, Formula 1 engines have been turbocharged spark-ignited engines. In this scenario, the maximum engine power available in full-load conditions can be achieved only by optimizing combustion phasing within the cycle, i.e., by advancing the center of combustion until the limit established by the occurrence of abnormal combustion. High in-cylinder pressure peaks and the possible occurrence of knocking combustion significantly increase the heat transfer to the walls and might generate hot spots inside the combustion chamber. This work presents a methodology suitable to properly diagnose and control the occurrence of pre-ignition events that emanate from hot spots. The methodology is based on a control-oriented model of the ignition delay, which is compared to the actual ignition delay calculated from the real-time processing of the in-cylinder pressure trace. When the measured ignition delay becomes significantly smaller than that modeled, it means that ignition has been activated by a hot spot instead of the spark plug. In this case, the presented approach, implemented in the electronic control unit (ECU) that manages the whole hybrid power unit, detects a pre-ignition event and corrects the injection pattern to avoid the occurrence of further abnormal combustion.

Abstract:
This abstract describes the bachelor degree thesis in computer technology at Växjö University. At the company BSR in Växjö, Sweden there is a new project under development called BSR Diagnostic Tool. The main idea is to use a hardware class for communication instead of the diagnostic tools that are provided by the car manufactures. In object-oriented programming, a class is a programming language construct that is used as a blueprint to create objects. The task was to implement this hardware class which will handle the communication between a computer and the control units in the vehicles. The report also includes a big theoretical part about the communication bus that is used, CAN. The objective was to create the class and make it communicate successfully with a Saab. The testing of the class was done with a simple program. The program can send a question to the vehicle and retrieve an answer with help of the hardware class. BSR provided a diagram with functions that should be present. The development of the system was done using C# and .NET Environment. The company was satisfied with the results since they provided a good basis to further development of BSR Diagnostic Tool.</p>

Abstract:
BPL technology is quite widespread nowadays and the public is also somewhat aware of it. This technology can be used as a means of communication without the need to install additional media and thus use the existing infrastructure. In an effort to use the full potential of the technology, BPL communication began to be used to monitor the current state of cables in distribution networks online. Where the technology is already fully implemented, the distributor can use the data to evaluate the current situation. In this way, BPL technology can be used as a diagnostic tool to test the quality of a cable connection on which not only time but also humidity and other external influences could have a significant effect.

AbstractThis paper is about shipping runtime verification to the masses. It presents the crucial technology enabling everyday car owners to monitor the behaviour of their cars in-the-wild. Concretely, we present an Android app that deploys rtlola runtime monitors for the purpose of diagnosing automotive exhaust emissions. For this, it harvests the availability of cheap bluetooth adapters to the On-Board-Diagnostics (obd) ports, which are ubiquitous in cars nowadays. We detail its use in the context of Real Driving Emissions (rde) tests and report on sample runs that helped identify violations of the regulatory framework currently valid in the European Union.

Abstract:
Willingness to download health applications could be increased by addressing data privacy concerns indirectly. In Mexico, a survey experiment explored different priming prompts and their effect on willingness to download a diagnostic and tracing app. The survey experiment revealed that mentioning government efforts on data privacy can backfire. Surprisingly, reminding people of social media's usefulness did not affect people's willingness to download the app.
