The value proposition of Personalized Medicine is to deliver the “right drug, to the right patient, at the right time”. Companion diagnostics is the required tool for Personalized Medicine used to aid clinical decision making with the aim to identify patients who are most suitable for a given treatment approach and to avoid adverse effects. However, even 16 years after the first co-approval of a therapeutic drug and an associated diagnostic test (trastuzumab (Herceptin1) from Genentech and the HercepTest1 from Dako), the co-development and co-approval of drug-diagnostic pairs is a challenging

Several studies have suggested that the type of calcification formed may act as a marker for malignancy and its presence may be of biological significance. Linear discrepancy for a poset is the least k such that for any ordering of the points in the poset there is a pair of incomparable points at least distance k away in the ordering. Weak discrepancy is similar to linear discrepancy except that the distance is observed over weak labelings (i.e. two points can have the same label if they are incomparable, but order is still preserved). Abstract:
Background: It is unclear how far the superior efficacy of omalizumab, established in randomized controlled clinical trials of patients with severe allergic asthma (SAA), translates into routine practice and when compared to matched controls. Methods: New-onset omalizumab-treated (OT) patients with SAA (n = 53) were compared to a matched control group of usual-care (UC) patients (n = 53). Treatment and procedures were naturalistic. Subsequent to a baseline assessment, patients were followed up over at least 6 months with at least two follow-up assessments. Primary clinical outcomes were the nu

<p>This work details the development of bioanalytical tools for use in rapid diagnostics (Chapters 2-4) and in the study of physiology (Chapters 5-6). This research harness the power of real-time, singlemolecule microfluidics to study loop-mediated isothermal amplification in urinary tract infections (Chapter 2), chlamydia (Chapter 3), and gonorrhea (Chapter 4). In Chapter 5, non-reactive beads are designed and optimized to study the impact of polymers on murine gastrointestinal mucosa. Chapter 6 details the implementation of a mass spectrometry method to quantify bile acids and investigate th

Existing commercial search engines are still fraught with some disadvantages. The ranked list of search result pages returned from a search engine is often long and mixed with some concepts that are relevant to the user’s query but hard to be identified. Web search results are actually lack of a well organization, which require users to pay attention on examining the retrieved pages and identifying the correct ones. Conventional research to
