Full textTaking a corpus of study of 940 terms from real sources into account, in the doctoral thesis Soccer Terminology and Dictionaries: Elaboration of a Dictionary of Specialty for the Great Public the features of soccer terminology used in mass media are studied from a lexicological perspective and soccer terminology is analyzed in the existing soccer glossaries and in the main Spanish general monolingual dictionaries. The lexicological analysis has allowed us to observe the type of terms included in the studied works. The dissatisfaction produced by the results of these analyses regarding, on the one hand, the scarce and vague presence of soccer terms in both types of dictionaries and, on the other, the non-existence of a dictionary of soccer in Spanish which tries to bring the knowledge of the studied terminology closer to the great public and which is elaborated considering lexicographical principles, has led us to create a soccer dictionary addressed to the great public. The conclusions of the study are the following: 1) soccer terminology that appears in mass media is not systematic, and this implies in many cases denominative variation; 2) soccer terminology presents the same characteristics as general language lexicon; 3) existing soccer dictionaries do not cover the needs of the largest (potential) users (nonspecialists); 4) Spanish general monolingual dictionaries should include more terms in this area due to the impact of soccer terminology in language, and 5) it does not exist a soccer dictionary which aims at bringing soccer terminology knowledge closer to the great public and which is created taking into account lexicographical principles. To conclude, this work contributes different aspects to the study of terminologies and dictionaries: a delimitation and location of soccer terminology (which is placed, due to its diffusion, between specialised and general language) within the framework of present Terminology; a detailed analysis of soccer terminology from a lexicological perspective; an in-depth analysis of this terminology in Spanish general monolingual dictionaries and in the different existing soccer glossaries in Spanish; and, finally, a dictionary of soccer addressed to the great public.

El diccionario bilingüe está entre las herramientas más utilizadas por los estudiantes de lenguas extranjeras. Sin embargo, no todos saben cómo usarlo adecuadamente. Parte de los autores del área de lexicografía pedagógica abogan por la enseñanza del uso del diccionario, pero pocos estudios se han hecho. Se intenta llenar este vacío presentando un trabajo sobre la enseñanza de habilidades de uso de diccionarios a alumnos de la carrera de letras español de la Universidad Federal de Santa Catarina. El objetivo de la investigación era verificar si una clase sobre el uso de diccionarios era capaz de mejorar las habilidades de uso de sus usuarios. Los resultados mostraron que la instrucción es eficaz porque aumenta la relación consulta al diccionario y respuesta cierta en el test. Por otro lado, ineficaz porque no estimula los alumnos a usar el diccionario.
The bilingual dictionary is one of the most used tools by foreign languages learners. However, not everyone knows how to use it properly. Some researchers in the field of pedagogical lexicography advocates the teaching of dictionary skills, but few studies have been made about it. This study tries to fill this void and presents one research in teaching dictionary skills to university students learning Spanish. The aim of this research is to verify if a class improves dictionary use. The results show, surprisingly, that the instruction is both efficient and inefficient because it increases the relation between dictionary use and right choices on the one hand, but on the other, it does not seem to encourage the use of a dictionary.

Full textThe present Ph.D. thesis studied the uses of the Spanish particle se, its treatment by current romance dictionaries and its representation in a dictionary for learners of Spanish as a foreign language. The main objective is to propose a model for the representation of the verbs that present the use of se. For this, the following aspects will be analysed: The review of related work in grammar studies (chapter 2) as well as lexicography (chapter 3). The representation of pronominal uses in the current romance dictionaries, particularly in those for learners of Spanish as a second language (chapter 4). The systematic analysis of se in corpora from the perspective of Hanks’ (2004) theory of Norms and Exploitations and Corpus Patterns Analysis (chapter 5 and 6). The elaboration of a model of a verbal lexical entry for a dictionary of Spanish as a second language containing uses of se (chapter 7). The results of the thesis are mainly the elaboration of a database on Spanish pronominal verbs (chapter 6, Spanish CPA) and of a prototype of 20 lexical entries with the same verbs analysed with CPA (chapter 7).

Full textEsta tesis tiene como objetivo principal analizar el léxico de especialidad incluido en Nueva Era: Gran diccionario español-chino (en adelante: Nueva Era), que es el diccionario español-chino más voluminoso en el mundo actual y uno de los diccionarios más utilizados entre los estudiantes chinos. Para alcanzar el objetivo de la investigación se siguen los siguientes pasos. Primero se realiza un análisis general de Nueva Era con el fin de, por un lado, proporcionar una visión global de este diccionario, y por otro lado, determinar la función y los usuarios de la obra. Después, se estudia el 5% de todo el diccionario y se extraen todas las voces de especialidad halladas en la parte revisada para elaborar un corpus. Una vez elaborado el corpus, se procede a realizar un análisis tanto a nivel macroestructural como a nivel microestructural con el fin de averiguar si la presentación y el tratamiento de las voces especializadas pueden corresponder al usuario y la función de esta obra. Seguidamente, se compara el tratamiento del léxico especializado entre Nueva Era y en sus cuatro fuentes lexicográficas, que son el Nuevo diccionario español-chino, el Diccionario de la lengua española, el Diccionario actual de la lengua española y el Gran diccionario inglés-chino, para comprobar las posibles relaciones y diferencias existentes entre ellos. Por último, se elabora una propuesta sobre el tratamiento del léxico de especialidad en un diccionario español-chino general basándose en los problemas detectados en Nueva Era.
The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the specialized lexicon included in New Era: Great Spanish-Chinese Dictionary (hereinafter: New Era), which is the largest Spanish-Chinese dictionary in the world of today and one of the most used dictionaries among Chinese students. The following steps are taken to achieve the objective of the research. First, a general analysis of New Era is carried out in order, on the one hand, to provide an overview of this dictionary and, on the other hand, to determine the function and users of the work. Then, 5% of all the dictionary is reviewed and all the specialized lexicon found in the revised part are extracted to elaborate a corpus. Once the corpus has been compiled, an analysis is carried out at both a macro and microstructural level in order to find out if the presentation and treatment of the specialized lexicon can correspond to the user and the function of this work. Next, the treatment of the specialized lexicon between New Era and in its four lexicographic sources, which are the New Spanish-Chinese Dictionary, the Dictionary of the Spanish Language, the Current Spanish Language Dictionary and the Great English-Chinese Dictionary, is compared to check the possible relationships and differences between them. Finally, a proposal about the treatment of the specialized lexicon in a general Spanish-Chinese dictionary is made based on the problems detected in New Era.

Full textThe title of the thesis Lexicography and the dictionary as a tool in Secondary Education: Work Units summarizes the main objectives of this research. It focuses on the fact of carrying out lexicographical training of secondary school teachers; So that they become aware of the importance of the dictionary as a tool, both inside and outside the classroom. Therefore, the thesis is structured in several sections: In the first part, the objectives, the hypotheses and the justification of the work are written. A second section, the Theoretical Framework, where the works and investigations of lexicographers are commented; An analysis of the dictionary is made as a key point for the lexicographic training of the teaching staff; Afterwards, how it is the teaching in the Secondary level is explained, anaylising the current legislation, the schools, the departments and the staff; The heterogeneity of the students in the classrooms is classified and finally, a description of the textbooks and the school library is made. The third and fourth part of the research is the most practical, conducting the surveys and the units of work. Finally, I have included all the bibliography I have consulted and the appendices that complete the study. The investigation of the teacher training needs leads to hypotheses, which indicate the obligation to carry out a series of surveys for each of the parties involved in the project, teaching staff and students, which includes all the empirical data that serve as basis for research. The results of the surveys will show the gaps in lexicographic matters of teachers and students in this stage of education. It is intended that, from the reflection carried out through the questionnaires, teachers and students become aware of the importance of lexicographic works as teaching tools. A language is learned without the need for an academic training, but to know it and to use all the possibilities that it offers correctly and adequately, entails a series of skills and competences that are obtained by studying and learning the rules that govern a language. Many of these guidelines and information are found in dictionaries. Therefore, it is intended that this material be an important instrument in the teaching-learning process of students. This process is correctly carried out if there is adequate use of the dictionary and the information it contains. The teacher must have enough lexicographical knowledge to be able to instruct the student in this matter. Research should include a series of didactic proposals with which the teachers carry out the work of lexicographical teaching: the units of work, which includes a series of exercises of knowledge, recognition, use and application of the information contained in the different dictionaries; Taking into account the level of knowledge of the language of students and their needs. The didactic proposals present dynamics of work that can be carried out in each of the subjects that compose the curriculum; This implies that the lexicographic competence is not only the work of a part of the teaching staff, but of each and every one of the teachers that form the staff. That is, the dictionary is a working tool for foreign language and foreign language subjects, but also for other subjects. In conclusion, I would like to emphasize the importance of teacher training and the use of the dictionary as a prominent tool in the teaching-learning process from Primary to High School and in later educational levels.

Full textLa tesis, titulada Terminología del balonmano: estudio léxico, lexicográfico y propuesta de lemario para la elaboración de un diccionario de especialidad dirigido al gran público, parte de la ausencia de investigaciones sobre balonmano desde el punto de vista lingüístico. Así pues, esta tesis muestra el proceso de elaboración de un trabajo terminológico en el ámbito del balonmano. En primer lugar, se ha enmarcado el lenguaje del balonmano dentro de la Teoría Comunicativa de la Terminología. En segundo lugar, se han constituido dos corpus de textos balonmanísticos, uno actual y uno histórico. En tercer lugar, se han estudiado las características lexicológicas de los términos incluidos en ambos corpus para observar los rasgos del léxico del balonmano histórico y actual. En cuarto lugar, se ha analizado cuantitiva y cualitativamente la presencia de los términos del corpus de léxico actual en diccionarios generales monolingües de español y en diccionarios de balonmano especializados. La insatisfacción producida por los resultados de los análisis en cuanto a la escasez y la imprecisión de los términos balonmanísticos en ambos tipos de diccionario, por un lado, y la inexistencia de diccionarios de balonmano en español para el gran público, por el otro, ha comportado la confección de un lemario que sirva como base para un diccionario de balonmano dirigido al gran público. Así pues, en el desarrollo de esta tesis se han elaborado y presentado dos corpus y el análisis lexicológico y lexicográficos de los términos del balonmano. Estos estudios no solo han servido para lograr el objetivo principal de esta tesis, establecer un lemario, sino que también constituyen aportaciones fundamentales para la futura elaboración de un diccionario de balonmano dirigido al gran público.
The thesis, titled Handball Terminology: lexical and lexicographic study and proposal of a lemmata for a specialty dictionary for general public, is motivated by the absence of investigations about handball from a linguistic point of view. Thus, this work shows the process of elaboration of a terminological work in the field of handball. In first place, the language of handball has been framed in the Communicative Theory of Terminology. In second place, two handball textual corpora have been constituted, one is historical and the other one is contemporary. In third place, the terms included in both corpora have been analyzed to observe its lexical characteristics. In fourth place, the presence of the terms of the corpora in both general Spanish dictionaries and handball dictionaries has been analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The dissatisfaction produced by the results of these analysis regarding the scarcity and inaccuracy of handball terms in both types of dictionaries, on the one side, and the inexistence of handball dictionaries for the general public on the other, has led to the creation of a lemmata. Throughout the development of this thesis, two corpora and the lexical and lexicographic analysis have been carried out and presented. These studies are not only used to achieve the main objective of this thesis, establish a lemmata, but also they are fundamental contributions for the future elaboration of a handball dictionary for the general public.

Full textLa presente tesis doctoral, dedicada al tratamiento de las palabras culturales en diccionarios bilingües y a la creación de un nuevo modelo de diccionario cultural bilingüe español-chino-español, parte inicialmente de la necesidad del aprendizaje y la enseñanza de la llamada “cultura compartida” y, también, de la perspectiva de la comunicación intercultural entre gentes de distintas culturas. Basándonos en los estudios teóricos sobre la interrelación e interdependencia entre lenguaje y cultura, hemos seguido una serie de metodologías con las que podíamos indagar los problemas más significativos que generaban malentendidos o choques culturales entre hablantes de distintas culturas. En este trabajo, hemos centrado nuestro interés de investigación especialmente en el tratamiento de los llamados culturemas -entendidos como palabras o expresiones específico-culturales- en el ámbito lexicográfico, porque estas palabras no sólo se consideran como “peones de una cultura centenaria” de cada sociedad sino que también son elementos fundamentales que constituyen parte de la macroestructura de los diccionarios de lengua y para la comprensión de estas palabras se requiere no sólo el conocimiento de su valor de lengua, sino también de su valor connotativo en un determinado contexto cultural. Desde esta perspectiva, hemos presentado una propuesta para crear un nuevo modelo de diccionario cultural bilingüe dirigido especialmente a los usuarios chinos que tengan necesidad de conocer el sentido connotativo y cultural de las palabras del español y que quieran subsanar problemas de integración y comunicación, causados por su escasa inmersión cultural en la cultura española. Por tanto, ese futuro diccionario cultural que proponemos en esta investigación se caracteriza por su enfoque orientado al tratamiento de los conocimientos y saberes culturales y, a la vez, a la formación de las habilidades y las actitudes de los aprendices de una lengua extranjera al entrar en contacto con otras culturas.
The present doctoral thesis, dedicated to the treatment of the cultural words in bilingual dictionaries and to the creation of a new model of Spanish-Chinese-Spanish bilingual cultural dictionary, initially stems from the need of learning and education for the call "shared culture", and also from the perspective of intercultural communication among peoples of distinctive cultures. Based on the theoretical studies about the interrelation and interdependence between languages and cultures, we’ve followed a series of methodologies with which we could investigate the most significant problems that generate misunderstandings or cultural shocks among speakers of different cultures. In this paper, we’ve focused our research interest especially on the treatment of so-called culturemes - known as words or expressions as specified in cultural-lexicographical spheres, because these words are not merely considered as "peones of a centenary culture" of each society but also as fundamental elements constituting part of the macro-structure of the language dictionaries. Comprehension of these words requires the knowledge of the value of language as well as the connotative value in a certain cultural context. From this perspective, we’ve presented a proposal to create a new model of bilingual cultural dictionary especially for those Chinese users who need to know connotative sense and the cultural words of Spanish, and want to compensate for the problems of integration and communication, caused by their limited cultural immersion in Spanish culture. Therefore, that future cultural dictionary we proposed in this research is characterized by the treatment of the cultural knowledge and, at the same time, by the development of the abilities and attitudes of learners of a foreign language to interact with other cultures.

Full textLa expansión y profesionalización de la enseñanza de español como lengua extranjera en el mundo exige nuevos desafíos. Uno de ellos consiste en la necesidad de revisar los materiales existentes publicados hasta la fecha y proponer nuevas soluciones para aquellos problemas que aún no han sido abordados satisfactoriamente. Una de estas cuestiones corresponde a la inclusión de voces dialectales en los diccionarios monolingües de aprendizaje (learners' en la tradición inglesa). Hasta la fecha, los diccionarios didácticos de ELE son obras que, en su totalidad, han sido diseñadas y elaboradas en España. Esto significa que las bases de datos empleadas para su confección, los usos lingüísticos representados en ellas y los destinatarios a quienes se dirigen están en concordancia con contextos en donde el modelo lingüístico seleccionado para la enseñanza coincide el español peninsular. Esta situación deviene en un problema para el uso efectivo de estas obras lexicográficas en países hispanoamericanos donde también se enseña español como lengua extranjera, porque en estos diccionarios queda descuidada —si no ignorada— la representación de léxico, normas y usos diferenciales americanos, lo cual limita su efectividad como material didáctico en las aulas de ELE situadas fuera de las fronteras europeas. Este estudio tiene como objetivo principal develar la presencia y tratamiento lexicográfico de regionalismos léxicos, tanto peninsulares como americanos, en el Diccionario para la enseñanza de la lengua española (DIPELE, 1995), mediante un estudio exploratorio, mixto y transeccional, con el fin de analizar las posibles limitaciones de su aplicación como herramienta pedagógica, los sesgos ideológicos que subyacen a su elaboración y paralelamente, profundizar la discusión en torno a la necesidad de elaborar diccionarios didácticos de ELE adaptados a las necesidades de quienes aprenden la lengua en América.

Full textEl objetivo principal de esta tesis es establecer un lemario que sirva como base para la elaboración de un diccionario de economía dirigido al gran público. Para ello, he elaborado un corpus de economía con la herramienta terminológica Terminus 2.0. Se trata de un corpus representativo de las diferentes palabras de la economía utilizadas en la prensa española en la actualidad, elaborado de acuerdo con la metodología de investigación empírico-descriptiva, según la cual se relacionan aspectos cuantitativos y deductivos con el uso de las herramientas proporcionadas por la lingüística de corpus. Dicho corpus me ha permitido estudiar las características lexicológicas de los términos económicos: el léxico económico está representado en su mayoría por compuestos sintagmáticos, términos sufijados y metáforas. Posteriormente, he analizado cuantitativa y cualitativamente la presencia de los términos del corpus en diccionarios generales monolingües de español y en diccionarios especializados de economía. Después de corroborar la inexistencia de diccionarios de economía para el gran público, y la escasa representación del léxico económico en los diccionarios existentes, he presentado la propuesta de lemario para un diccionario de economía dirigido al gran público.
The main objective of this thesis is to define a lemmata that can be used as the basis for the elaboration of an economics dictionary for the general public. To achieve this, I have developed an economics corpus with the terminology tool Terminus 2.0. It is a representative corpus of the economic vocabulary used nowadays by the non-specialised Spanish press, following an empirical-descriptive research methodology, according to which quantitative and deductive aspects are related to each other using the available corpus’ linguistics tools. This corpus has enabled the study of the lexicological characteristics of the economic terms: the economic lexicon is represented mostly by syntagmatic structures, suffixed terms and metaphors. Subsequently, the presence of the corpus terms in general monolingual Spanish dictionaries and specialized economics dictionaries, has been quantitatively and qualitatively analysed. After confirming the inexistence of economics dictionaries for the general public, and the scarce representation of the economic lexicon in the existing dictionaries, this thesis introduces a lemmata proposal for an economic dictionary for the general public.

Full textEn la primera parte de la investigación (caps. I, II y III), se analiza la tradición lexicográfica que conduce al Diccionario de Autoridades y se sitúa la fundación de la Real Academia Española dentro del marco del nacimiento de las academias europeas. Seguidamente, se estudian las características del Vocabolario degli accademici della Crusca y del Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française en comparación con el Diccionario de Autoridades, que los tomó como modelos. Este análisis demuestra puntos de conexión hasta ahora no considerados entre el trabajo de la Academia della Crusca y la Real Academia Española.
En segundo lugar, se ofrece una reseña crítica de los principales trabajos sobre los orígenes de la Real Academia Española y el Diccionario de Autoridades (cap. IV). Tras el estado de la cuestión, se expone la metodología empleada en la tesis para el estudio de las autoridades en el Diccionario (cap. V). Ésta se fundamenta en la investigación positivista de recogida y comentario de documentos y en la elaboración de bases de datos informáticas de una muestra significativa de las entradas del repertorio. A continuación, se estudia el proceso de selección y vaciado de los textos que conforman el corpus del Diccionario de Autoridades (cap. VI). Para ello, se analizan las Plantas del repertorio lexicográfico y una serie de documentos hallados en los fondos de la Biblioteca de la Real Academia Española (varias cédulas que ejemplifican el sistema de vaciado de las autoridades y el ejemplar del Diccionario en el que los académicos, a partir de 1732, apuntaron diversas correcciones a la obra). Además se incluyen nuevos datos y reveladoras interpretaciones entresacados de otros documentos ya conocidos (las Actas de la Corporación, de los años 1713 a 1740, y el manuscrito de Juan de Ferreras -BNM, Ms. 9.132-, con diversas redacciones de varias entradas del Diccionario).
La última parte de la tesis ofrece una exhaustiva clasificación cronológica y por géneros de las fuentes del Diccionario. Asimismo, se estudian detalladamente las características (desde el punto de vista lingüístico y literario) de cada tipo de fuente, así como su uso en las entradas del repertorio (cap. VII). Finalmente se establece el canon de las autoridades (cap. VIII), esto es, los escritores que, por su presencia preeminente en el Diccionario, fueron propuestos por la Academia como modelos lingüísticos. Gracias al análisis de los índices de frecuencia en las citas del Diccionario de Autoridades se ha constatado la existencia de un canon literario (en el que destacan las obras de Francisco de Quevedo, Miguel de Cervantes, Fray Luis de Granada y Lope de Vega), así como un canon de textos no literarios (en el que destacan textos científicos -como la obra de Andrés Laguna-, jurídicos -vg. La nueva recopilación de las leyes del reino y las obras legales de Alfonso X- e historiográficos --en especial, las crónicas de Alfonso X y la Historia general de España de Juan de Mariana).
La tesis contiene además un volumen de apéndices en los que pueden consultarse los datos bibliográficos sobre las autoridades (Apéndice I), los textos de las Plantas del Diccionario de Autoridades (Apéndice II), las distintas clasificaciones cronológicas y por géneros de las fuentes del repertorio (Apéndices III a V) y los índices de frecuencia de cita de las distintas obras del corpus en una muestra de las páginas del Diccionario (Apéndice VI).
The thesis is centered on the study of the "authorities" (the quotations of texts which are regarded as linguistic models) in the work that opens the modern lexicographic practice in Spain, the Dicionario de la lengua castellana o Diccionario de Autoridades, published by the Real Academia Española between 1726 and 1739.
In the first part of the research (chapters I, II and III), the lexicographic tradition that leads to the Diccionario de Autoridades is analysed and the foundation of the Real Academia Española is placed within the frame of the birth of the European academies. Next to that, the characteristics of the Vocabolario degli accademici della Crusca and the Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française are studied in comparison with the Diccionario de Autoridades that took them as models. This analysis demonstrates some connective points, which had not been considered up to now, between the work of the Academia della Crusca and the Real Academia Española.
On the second hand, a critical account of the main works about the origins of the Real Academia Española and the Diccionario de Autoridades (chapter IV) is given. After the revision of the actual situation, the methodology employed in the thesis for the study of the authorities in the Diccionario (chapter V) is given. This methodology is founded in the positivist gathering and commentaries of the documents and the elaboration of a database of a significant sample of the entries of the repertoire. Next to that, the process of the selection and use of the texts that form the corpus of the Diccionario de Autoridades (chapter VI) are studied. Besides, the Plantas of the lexicographic repertoire are analysed as well as several documents found in the funds of the Biblioteca de la Real Academia Española (several documents that illustrate the system of selection and extraction of the authorities and a copy of the Diccionario on which, from 1732 on, the members of the academy jotted down various corrections to the work). Besides, new data and revealing interpretations taken from other documents (such as the Actas of the Corporation, from the years 1713 to 1740, and the manuscript of Juan de Ferreras
-BNM, Ms.9.132-, with different variations of several entries of the Diccionario) already known are included.
The last part of the thesis offers a thorough chronological and genre classification of the sources of the Diccionario. Besides the characteristics (from the linguistic and literary point of view of each source) are studied as well as their use in the entries of the repertoire (chapter VII). Finally, a canon of authorities is established (chapter VIII), gathering the writers which for their outstanding presence in the Diccionario, were proposed by the Academia as linguistic models. Thanks to the analysis of the index of frequency of the references in the Diccionario de Autoridades the existence of a literary canon (in which stand out the works of Francisco de Quevedo, Miguel de Cervantes, Fray Luis de Granada and Lope de Vega) has been proven, as well as a canon of non literary texts (among which stand out scientific texts -like the work of Andrés Laguna-, law texts -like La nueva recopilación de las leyes del reino and the legal works of Alfonso X- and histographic texts -specially, the chronicles of Alfonso X and the Historia general de España of Juan de Mariana-.

Full textThis dissertation presents a discursive study of some aspects of the Diccionario panhispánico de dudas pan-Hispanic doubt dictionary (DPD), work published in 2005 by Real Academia Española the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) and Asociación de Academias de la Lenguat Española the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language (ASALE). The basis of our work relies on the articulation made in Brazil between the theories of the Discourse Analysis (DA) and the History of Linguistic Ideas (HLI). In this context, we consider the dictionary a linguistic instrument (AUROUX, 1992), inserted in determined production conditions fact that allows us to take it as a discursive object (ORLANDI, 2007). This way we analyze fragments of its materiality that includes its paratext (GENETTE, 1987) and its nomenclature in order to detect gestures that work the relation between this instrument and the routines of the memory of/in the language (PAYER, 2006). We organize our analysis in two parts. In the first one, we deal with elements that we consider as the dictionary surrounding: the first page of the site where it can be consulted and its cover. With this movement, there was a need to analyze another relation, that we designate as being contradictious (PÊCHEUX, 1990) between the institutions which are its authors RAE and ASALE because their names and coat of arms appear on the referred cover. On the second part, we focus the dictionary nomenclature. We observe fragments in which the number of toponyms and foreignisms stand out, what is related to an important bias in how the pan-hispanic policy works: the relation between Spanish and other languages. 11 Besides, we highlight how, in the instrument materiality the doubt is solved, aspect which compelled us to analyze the relation between the DPD and another linguistic instrument: the Diccionario de la Lengua Española Dictionary of the Spanish Language (DRAE), covering, specially, the relation that both linguistic instruments have in the language(s) policy (ORLANDI, 2007) game. On the web of the several analysis developed through this dissertation we detect some of the most regular gestures that, in the linguistic instruments covered, affect the so called memory of/in the language functioning.

Full textAs a result of the analysis of the articles regarding agua and aire in the fascicles from the —failed— Diccionario histórico de la lengua española (1960-1996), I propose the necessity that the editor of the definitions in a work of this type should prefer and be inclined towards philology, rather than the translating of those experiences into ones closer to our current heritage of knowledge, because of the reflection —in the definitional text— of the experiences of the community of users of that term in a specific period. A semantic description of this kind will aid to improve the understanding of past realities and, as a later step, of how those realities were understood, by means of the lexis which designates those experiences.

A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo analisar os exemplos em português de oito substantivos e oito adjetivos do Diccionario Bilingüe de Uso Español-Portugués Portugués-Español (DiBU), com o intuito de verificar se estes exemplos refletem de fato o uso real da língua portuguesa. Esta verificação foi realizada a partir da freqüência encontrada de trechos dos exemplos no site de buscas Google. Desta forma pretendeu-se confirmar a informação fornecida pelos autores do DiBU de que os exemplos desse dicionário foram baseados no uso real da língua portuguesa. Foram pesquisadas também quais as colocações encontradas com estes substantivos e adjetivos visando apresentá-las como sugestões para possíveis exemplos nos dicionários. No caso dos substantivos foram pesquisados também quais os verbos que geralmente os acompanham. Estas buscas foram realizadas no corpus da Folha de São Paulo, 1995/1996. As análises realizadas com base nos dados encontrados confirmam que a maioria dos exemplos pesquisados de fato reflete o uso real da língua portuguesa.

Full textThis research, carried out from a diachronic viewpoint, is mainly of a practical nature. It is focused on the monographic study of the Diccionario de la lengua castellana compuesto por la Real Academia Española. Segunda Impresión corregida y aumentada. Tomo primero. A-B. published in 1770, it is known as the second edition of the Diccionario de Autoridades, which has not been the focus of scholarly research until now since it is an unfinished edition, though it is considered far better than the first Diccionario de Autoridades, as its title shows. The originality of the dissertation lies in the fact that it analyzes a groundbreaking edition, whose modernity has a definite influence on the Spanish Royal Academy dictionary well into the 19th century. This modernity has often been erroneously assigned to the first edition shortened to one volume in 1780. Thus, this research contributes to regain the link between the first Academy dictionary and the following DRAE editions and, therefore, rebuild the history of Spanish lexicography. This research is made up of two parts: one section devoted to a general analysis of the edition where all the components of the Diccionario are described (general characteristics, macrostructure and microstructure) and a second one focused on the specific study of the scientific and technical words, carried out from the current perspective of the history of Spanish for specific purposes. This second part analyzes specific lexical entries with a diatechnical, abbreviated or explanatory, label (the latter being inherited from the first edition of Autoridades), and unmarked entries whose specific nature may be inferred from the corresponding definition. This dissertation thus provides the first complete listing of scientific and technical words corresponding to letters a and b from the academic dictionary as well as thorough conclusions related to the study of non-standard lexicon. Having gathered the formal theoretical tools for analysis, the methodology to be applied is as follows: firstly, I examine the instructions given in the «Prologue» and internal use rules (Reglas) to draw up and revise the Diccionario; then I check whether those instructions are followed in the Diccionario and draw the appropriate conclusions. Likewise, I make constant comparisons with the previous and following editions of the Diccionario and add about 350 examples to confirm the innovative nature of this edition. I also track lexicon from two different fields (agriculture and architecture) through the 18th and 19th centuries, and check the evolution of specific entries from any given knowledge area at that time – everything with the goal of verifying the perpetuation of the innovations established in the second edition of Autoridades. After the analysis, the substantial progress that the publishing of the second edition of Autoridades meant regarding lexicographical technique is made clear – technique that was hardly modified until the twelfth edition of the DRAE (1884). Besides, it is proven that the high presence of scientific and technical lexicon, well above 10% of the volume entries, exceeds the expectations based on the «Prólogo», since it states that the Diccionario only includes scientific and technical entries belonging to common language use.

Full textThe thesis is centered on the study of the voices of science and technique contained in the work that marked the beginning of a long tradition, existing nowadays, of numerous lexicographic publications in Spain, that is, the Diccionario de la lengua castellana published by the Real Academia Española between 1726 and 1739, also known as Diccionario de Autoridades. The first part of the research (chapters I and II), provides the theoretical framework as well as the historical and cultural context, respectively. The first one, analyzes the basic concepts of modern lexicography, it approaches topics such as the differences between common language and specialized language, the use of these voices such as technical or non-technical, the differences between science and art, and also between technique and craft. The second is a journey through the history of science, the development of the technique, the Scientific Revolution at the beginning of the 18th century in Spain. This route goes up the foundation of the Real Academia Española and the three principal lexicographic works which served as the example to Spanish academicians for the elaboration of its own dictionary. These three works are the Diccionario de la Académie Française (1694), the Vocabolario de la Accademia della Crusca (1612) and the Tesoro de la lengua castellana o española, by Sebastián de Covarrubias (1611). The second part (chapter III) is dedicated entirely to the study of the Diccionario de Autoridades. It consists of a detailed analysis of the dictionary in general, and the voices of science and technology found within. Firstly, it examines the stages and publication of the volumes of the work, their characteristics, their macrostructure and their microstructure. Secondly, the study of the corpus, which consists of a general analysis of the entire sample, assuming the structure of lexical items, and then an analysis per specialty that comprises all of the voices selected in the sample. The last part (chapters IV and V) contains, firstly, the interpretation of the results, that is, a relationship between the theoretical information of the first part with the analysis of the Diccionario de Autoridades of the second one. This analysis of results is grouped in two sections. The first is about the sample linked to the theoretical framework of lexicography (it takes lexicographic analysis of the sample and it makes a comparison between lexical and terminological definition) and the second about the corpus with the historical and cultural context (it offers a brief summary of the history of science, it describes the results of the sample, and links these results with theoretical information of the history of science, giving special importance to quotations of authorities). Secondly, it offers a recap of all the thesis and final conclusions. This thesis also offers four annexes where the sample of the voices of science and technique of the Diccionario de Autoridades is exposed. It's the same information, organized in four different ways for ease of reference.

Full textThe object of study of this research is to develop the theoretical and methodological foundations of a morphological system for the establishment of a new nomenclature (NN) Dictionary of the future use of Cuzco Quechua (DUQUE). The results of the analysis of the classification of current works show that spell anarchy of language directly affects the kind of chaotic order of the entries. The determining factors ranging from historical to personal criteria of them lexicographers. The historical standard spelling of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and the arbitrariness with which come lexicographers have been the most influential factors. Are analyzed, at work, morphemes composing Quechua lexical units as well as the vocabulary of the language. In the end, a morphological management of the new nomenclature constituted from morphemes that could form the basis macroentries proposed.

Full textThe nineteenth century in Brazil consisted in a period in which several significant events such as the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic and the Abolition of Slavery enabled essential outlines to the history of the country. These events had their reflexes in the language making of that time, concomitant with the first reflections on the spoken language in Brazil and its differences from the former colony. In this scenario, the inaugural execution process grammatization Brazilian Portuguese, circulating statements like, "It?s time for Brazilians write as falla in Brazil, and not how to spell in Portugal" (Macedo Soares, 1888). Representative statements like this aroused the interest of this research, which aims at understanding the operation of the senses that are built into the national language of Brazil, in a period marked by linguistic and historical transformations, in an specific language tool - Diccionario Brazileiro da Língua Portugueza (1888). In this way, we seek to examine what are the designations established for this language, to investigate whether the lexicon contributed in determining these and understand the relations among Language/History/Dictionary that represents the essence of this work. The analysis we perform put our work in the articulation of the History of Linguistic Ideas and the Semantics of the Event, science that puts a materialist conception of language and considers that in its historicity. We could verify, then, that describing and instrument gain greater significance and political importance in the context in which the work is situated. Thus, the dictionary is constituted as an object of knowledge and also as a space for creation of an imaginary language, society, history and nation. We provide a space for reflection on the dictionary as a language instrument (AUROUX, 1992), showing other features for this, the same way that language, it is also crossed by the categories of political, symbolic and ideological. The knowledge about the language which is made possible by this specific dictionary presents a temporal thickness which means the process of historicizing of the Portuguese language in Brazil, and it is inmean to make the language in the lexical description of the lexicographer organizes, selects and builds a knowledge that goes beyond the metalinguistic level and makes you say about a society and on the Brazilian history.

Se intentará verificar si el rol que el repertorio lexicográfico monolingüe cumple es el mismo que propugna Lara en sus trabajos. Un tercer alcance de esta investigación tiene referencia con si estas actitudes se estratifican dependiendo de variables tales como la educación, el sexo o la edad. Full textO presente trabalho tem como objetivo o estudo dos termos náuticos constantes no Diccionario da Lingua Brasileira (DLB), de Luiz Maria da Silva Pinto. Publicado na cidade de Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, na Typografia Silva, no ano de 1832, dez anos depois de proclamada a independência do Brasil, esse dicionário é, hoje, considerado o primeiro dicionário impresso nesse país. De tamanho pequeno, tem 1111 páginas, nos moldes atuais de um 'dicionário portátil', o DLB é um livro raro. Para a realização desta pesquisa, utilizamo-nos do volume em formato digital, da edição microfilmada da obra, realizada pelo Arquivo Público Mineiro, localizado na capital mineira, Belo Horizonte. Inicialmente, fizemos levantamento das unidades léxicas que remetem ao mundo da navegação, observando as 'marcas de uso' que se referem à terminologia náutica. Partimos, portanto, de um corpus dicionarístico, de terminologia náutica, composto de 153 termos, constituídos de 117 substantivos, 03 adjetivos, 32 verbos e 1 advérbio. Em uma segunda etapa, os dados foram organizados em fichas lexicográficas. Para cada um dos termos, construímos uma ficha lexicográfica que nos indica se o termo ocorreu ou não no Brasil desde o período colonial até os dias de hoje; além de mostrar origens e outras informações importantes para análise linguística. Para os conceitos de léxico, lexicologia, apoiamo-nos em Haensch, Biderman, Krieger e Finatto, para a Terminologia, em Barros. Para a análise dos dados, ao longo do tempo, tomamos como base norteadora a concepção de Linguística Histórica tal como apresentada por Bynon e Cohen. Como partimos de um tema, ou seja, da terminologia náutica, trabalhamos com o percurso 'do conceito à palavra', nos moldes do método onomasiológico. Em seguida, estendemos nossa análise à palavra ou ao signo linguístico - percurso semasiológico. Nossa análise apontou uma terminologia de base europeia, pouco representativa da realidade marítima brasileira, pouco descritiva e bastante prescritiva.

Full textLos géneros y la división sexual son temas a menudo estudiados. Este estudio intenta arrojar luz sobre este campo de investigación desde el punto de vista de los diccionarios. En este estudio se analizan en un marco lexicográfico algunos lemas, como masculino y femenino, relacionados con los géneros. El corpus está constituido por cuatro ediciones del Diccionario de la Lengua Española y tres diccionarios contemporáneos. El objetivo es investigar la imagen que presentan estos diccionarios de vocablos relativos al género y al sexo. Se estudia de cerca los métodos lexicográficos de los diccionarios y el desarrollo de la descripción léxica de los lemas. La hipótesis es que el desarrollo lexicográfico debe de influir en la conciencia de los autores y, consecuentemente en la redacción de las definiciones. Además, se observa que el significado de los lexemas, en el presente, se presenta como más desligado de los sexos. Es decir, se define significado estereotipizado de cada género en mayor medida que significado de cada sexo en sí. El resultado del estudio indica que no existe una metodología específica sobre la manera en que el tema debe de ser abordado. Por lo tanto tienden los diccionarios a tratar los géneros en una manera desigual.

Full textThis masters degree study presents a discursive analysis of some aspects of the Diccionario integral del español de la Argentina (DIEA), lexicographical work published in 2008 in Argentina and considered the first non-differential dictionary elaborated and published in a Hispanic American country. As we take DIEA as an object of study, we situate ourselves, theoretically and methodologically, on the relationship between the Discourse Analysis with its French origin, as it has been developed in Brazil, and the field of the History of Linguistic Ideas. Thus, we understand the dictionary to which we dedicate this work as a linguistic instrument and approach it as a discursive object drawn in a space of enunciation that, from our point of view, is crossed by a process of linguistic (de) colonization. Taking into account that in this space the Spanish language works under the tendency to homogeneity, we assume that the discursive analysis of the DIEA will allow us to detect traces of how the separation or \"compulsory disjunction\" is meant in this instrument, in which the real of the history submits a language in a space of (de) colonization. For the development of the analysis that we propose, we put the DIEA in sense relations with a number of other instruments, in particular the Diccionario de la lengua española, commonly known as Diccionario de la Real Academia Española, and the Diccionario del español Mexico. As a basis for the construction of our reflection, first, we deal with issues related to lexicography in the Spanish language that we understand as essential to consider the production conditions of our object of study. Therefore we address some works on the political territory of present-day Spain; reflect on the publication of comprehensive dictionaries in Hispanic America and build an overview of the production of dictionaries in Argentina. From considerations about the situation of Hispanic lexicography, we analyze some aspects of the DIEA paratext - the cover, the back cover, the presentation and the prologue - and a cutting of entries that compose the nomenclature of the letter P from the dictionary. Since this is an approximation to this object, this study presents an interpretive reading of DIEA under which we detect different positions occupied by this instrument in the the linguistic (de)colonization process and from which it produces different meaning effects.

Through a contrastive analysis of discursive modes present in the printed edition of 2001, amendments in line for the printed edition of 2014 (in case of items for which such amendments prior to the new wording were proposed) and the final definition collected at the 23rd edition of DRAE, we establish some general guidelines of the Academy in terms of the presence of the voice of writers and editors in the lexical items that are conveyed through discursive modalization.

Verificando-se um grande vazio na lexicografia portuguesa do século XVIII, tentou-se indagar que motivos terão levado a que Folqman e o seu Diccionario sejam praticamente desconhecidos no panorama da lexicografia portuguesa. Desta forma, depois de feita a edição do Diccionario, e acrescentada uma breve notícia biobibliográfica do autor, este trabalho propõe-se elaborar uma análise da obra em questão, quer no que respeita à nomenclatura que apresenta, e que a aproxima de um dicionário escolar; quer no respeitante à técnica lexicográfica utilizada e ao tratamento metalinguístico do “corpus” dicionarizado.
This work aims to study the Diccionario Portuguez e Latino, published in 1755 by Carlos Folqman. In the 18th century, there is a lack of lexicographical works devoted to Portuguese. In this context, we try to clarify the reasons why this dictionary has become secondary in the lexicographical tradition. We propose a textual edition of the dictionary, and try to gather the remaining biographical information about Carlos Folqman. In the lexicographical analysis we evaluate the dictionary nomenclature length (typical of a learner’s dictionary), the technique of compilation and linguistic description of the Portuguese words corpus.

Full textLa presente investigación se plantea analizar las principales ideologías acerca del mapuchismo léxico en el Diccionario de Chilenismos y voces y otras locuciones viciosas (1901-1918) de Manuel Antonio Román. A partir de un análisis de tipo cualitativo del discurso empleado por Román en las entradas léxicas con origen araucano. Constatándose una actitud negativa hacia la mayor parte de las entradas léxicas con origen araucano, mientras que las entradas léxicas consideradas aceptables se presentan de manera mucho más reducida, se presentan los principales argumentos para rechazar y aceptar estas voces con origen araucano. Se evidencia de esta manera que el autor defiende una ideología de lengua estándar, con una actitud positiva hacia la norma peninsular principalmente.

This work is a clear example of the multifaceted dimensions around whichthe linguistic and reformist thought of this Valencian writer from the Enlightenment isbuilt up.Gregorio Mayans thought it was necessary, within the Hispanic domain, toelaborate an encyclopaedia or integrating and comprehensive dictionary collecting andclassifying the full range of the most varied scientific disciplines. The elaboration ofthe work conceived by Mayans should be carried out by Antonio Bordazar de Artazu,a Valencian printer who shared several projects and concerns with the author.Nevertheless, apparently Bordazar did not manage to understand the methodsuggested by Don Gregorio in order to carry out his task, so the Enlightened writerfrom Oliva decided to write a model so as to guide his disciple, that is the so-calledIdea de un diccionario universal egecutada en la jurisprudencia civil.Our analysis of the Idea, on the one hand, is based on approaches of a philologicalnature, closely related to the field of Linguistic Historiography. The first one of themaims to explain a series of issues regarding the gestation and publication of the work,particularly its possible connection with projects of a universal language. Full textOur work consists in the production of a critical edition and the investigation of the history, composition, and transmission of the unpublished Diccionario das Antiguidades de Portugal (Dictionary of Antiquities of Portugal). Initially, our work was focused on a single manuscript, a copy from the 19th century, deposited in the Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute (IHGB). The analysis of the bibliographic references pertaining to each entry of the dictionary and the writing system convinced us that the original work was written in the 18th century. The study of this copy led us to find the original manuscript located in the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, under the authorship of Pedro José da Fonseca (1737-1816), who was professor at the College of Nobles, founding member and director of typography in the Academy, founded in 1779. Manoel José Maria da Costa e Sá, Higher Official at the Secretary for the Navy and Overseas Affairs, is the man who we understand to be the author of the manuscript copy belonging to the IHGB; his trajectory is quite unclear and we were able to shed some light upon it. We have also approached the participation in the story of Counselor Antônio Menezes Vasconcellos de Drummond; he brought to the IHGB the copy made by his friend Costa e Sá. A transatlantic network involving Portuguese and Brazilian men of letters becomes clear through this study, rendering it patent that the Diccionario das Antiguidades de Portugal is a steadfast window throughout which we can very well gaze upon the history of Literate Culture in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Full textThe purpose of the work here presented is to be a modest contribution to the studies on Spanish collocations, not only from the point of view of pure theory but also from the point of view of practical application. This purpose is reflected in the title: Aspectos teóricos y metodológicos para la compilación de un diccionario combinatorio destinado a estudiantes de E/LE (Theoretical Aspects and Methods of Compiling a Combinatory Dictionary for Students of Spanish as a Foreign Language). The aim of this study is to provide a panoramic view of the combinatorial dictionaries for English and for the romance languages and to establish their prototypical features. The findings are used to present a proposal for compiling an electronic combinatory dictionary to teach/learn Spanish as a foreign language by levels, called DiCLELE (Diccionario de combinaciones léxicas para la enseñanza-aprendizaje de E/LE). In Chapter 1 I outlined the major approaches to the concept of collocation and showed which concept of collocation will be taken in the present work. In Chapter 2 I described the main characteristics of collocations dictionaries and discussed several general and specialised English bilingual dictionaries. After it I discussed several general monolingual dictionaries on paper (Chapter 3) and electronic ones (Chapter 4). I went on by outlining the different ways to treat the semantic collocational information in existing dictionaries (Chapter 5) and I reflected on how to teach collocations. The last scope was to estabilish how to provide collocational information on the forthcoming DiCLELE, an electronic combinatory dictionary for italian learners of Spanish described in detail in Chapter 7. In order to carry out that purpose, it was necessary to collect a considerable amount of data in Spanish. The sources were the Plan Curricular of Instituto Cervantes (PCIC) and the main handbooks used in the several centres Instituto Cervantes of Italy.

Full textIn this study we propose to analyze the discourse in the Diccionario de la lengua española Dictionary of the Spanish Language (DLE), of the Real Academia Española Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), from a starting point theoretically oriented by the Pecheux Discourse Analysis articulated with the History of Linguistic Ideas, as it has been developed from the 90s on in certain projects in the Brazilian academic studies.Therefore, we consider the dictionary a linguistic instrument and approach it as a discursive object, that is, as \"a discourse about the language\", produced in \"certain social and historical conditions\" (NUNES, 2010, p.7). The path of our analysis is organized by the purpose of understanding how specific production conditions, in which strength relations are reconfigured, yield displacement in diverse instances - in the dictionary discourse. The text of the research is organized in two parts. In the first one, going through different production conditions which extent from the foundation of the RAE, in 1713, to the publication of the last edition of the DLE, in 2014 we reflect on the process of institutionalization of this Academy and examine the prefaces of its dictionary in order to investigate how the language, the dictionary itself, the RAE (and the scholars connected to it) and the \"other\", not projected only as the possible reader or consultant, but in the complex diversity of a universe that includes adversaries or speakers not necessarily thought as interlocutors or subjects that could be affected by the process of interpellation present in that work are meant. This effort of analysis brings to light the displacement and continuities in the projection of theses imaginaries. In the second part, focusing on the production conditions imposed by the American countries independencies and the Franco dictatorship in Spain, we analyze the position of the lexicographic subject and the way in which Native American and Spanish languages that compose our discursive series are meant in certain prefaces and entries. The developed analysis, besides bringing elements to think how the dictionary discourse circulates in different social historic conjunctures, also allows a reflection on particular movements in terms of the production of meaning, in its imbrication with the power relations in important moments in the history of the Academy dictionaries.

Full textThe present doctoral dissertation studies the applications of the monolingual coordinated dictionary of Modern Greek to teaching/learning Greek as a foreign language by Spanish speakers and to Greek-Spanish automatic translation. More particularly, this study is divided in six parts. In the introduction, this project is associated with the framework of natural language processing. The subject of the first chapter consists of the presentation of the theoretical framework of our study. In the second chapter, the integration of our lexicographical work to the NooJ program is described. In the third chapter, we present a review of the Greek-Spanish bilingual lexicography and of the Greek- Spanish automatic translation systems. In the fourth chapter, we describe the construction and the applications of our pedagogical dictionaries: of the passive DicoGLEesp and the active DicoGLEesa. In the fifth chapter, an inventory of Greek pragmatemes is presented. In the sixth chapter, we present the redaction guide of Greek as controlled language and the rule based automatic translation of alert messages. Finally, in the epilogue, the drawn conclusions and the perspectives of this work are outlined.

Full textThis paper analyzes a singular political-linguistic event in the framework of the New panhispánica language policy (RAE y ASALE 2004): the publication of the Dictionary of Americanisms (2010). One glottopolitics perspective that considers dictionaries as interventions in public space of language, noting the relationship they establish with broader historical requirements is adopted. The work under study operates as a complementary gesture of the idea of “global Spanish” which would undermine lexical variants conceived as localisms. That is, both models of language, withemphasis on the global or local as appropriate, different meta-linguisticarguments and discourses, participate in a game denoted by the same economicinterests, eager to capture a more profitable market.
