Due to the lack of information on the water demand of cocoa seedlings, empirical techniques have been used in the supply of water to the seedlings, potentializing losses in their growth and development. In this context, the present study aimed to determine the optimal irrigation depth for a good development of the genotype PS-1319 cocoa seedlings. The study took place at the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo-Campus Itapina, located in the Colatina, a city situated in the northwestern region of the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, in an experimental greenhouse of the cam

The authors respond to the thoughtful concerns raised by Dickson (1996) about the issue of path dependencies and the dynamics of resource-advantage (R-A) theory ( Hunt and Morgan 1995 ). Rather than R-A theory and Dickson's work being inconsistent, the authors point out that Hunt and Morgan (1995) cite Dickson's (1992) work on two different occasions as support for the dynamics of R-A theory. Furthermore, because R-A theory proposes that firms seek superior financial performance, when combined with the fact that all firms cannot be superior at the same time, R-A competition necessarily is dyna

Since the 1960s researchers have emphasised the continuing importance of rural–urban connections as a special aspect of urbanisation in Africa. It is clear that since then, in many parts of Africa, the involvement of urbanites with their ‘home’ village has increased rather than decreased. Four of the articles in this issue were originally papers presented at two ASA panels (Toronto, 1994) which set out to explore these rural–urban connections. The content of the exchanges and the moral involvement of city people and villagers in such relations vary greatly. The variations have important implic

Abstract 0n August 21, 1893, a visitor from the Denison House settlement reported that Mrs. Scanlon’s husband was to be buried the next day. Mrs. Scanlon had three children, all of them small. She had received help from Berkeley Temple and was now cared for by Rev. Mr. Dickinson and his people. Five days later, on Saturday, the visitor returned to 65 Chapman Street and found Mrs. Scanlon braiding her daughter’s hair, hoping to find a small tenement near a day nursery and work enough to keep her three children with her.

These new turbine units offer higher overall performance and fuel efficiencies, with promise of better reliability and availability, as well as lower operating and maintenance costs. INTRODUCTION In countries with a high tuberculosis (TB) burden, poor access to drug susceptibility testing is a major bottleneck in diagnosing drug-resistant (DR) TB. India is estimated to account for a quarter of multidrug-resistant (MDR)-TB patients globally, with around 124,000 cases in 2020. Mumbai, a densely populated city in Maharashtra State, is a DR-TB hotspot with 24% of treatment- naïve cases, and 41% of previously-treated cases, having MDR-TB, and a high frequency of fluoroquinolone resistance occurring among these MDR-TB cases.
