Abstract:

Dictionaries should be designed with a special set of users in mind and for their specific needs". This claim has been made for at least 25 years, but the information gathered in this period about dictionary users is very scant. More is said in the lexi-cographical literature about what dictionary users should do than what they do in actual practice. Yet is it not very difficult to collect this sort of information, especially when computer based dictionairies are available. Meanwhile (concise) dictionaries are being produced. This article discusses in what dictionary makers can take into account the requirements of a specific set of users.

Abstract:

Summary Among the early descriptions of the Algonquian languages of New France, the Petit Dictionaire (1703) of the baron de Lahontan stands out, despite its modest size, as the first vocabulary to appear in print. Thanks to the remarkable success of his Nouveaux Voyages, to which it forms an appendix, Lahontan’s Algonquin (Ojibwa) vocabulary became very widely known, serving as either model or source for many successors (including, it appears, the first printed vocabulary for Cree). On the evidence of a set of verb stems exhibiting a common non-initial morpheme (*-êl-), Lahontan’s analytical approach appears consistent in the segmentation of the inflexional prefixes, but the morpheme which defines this set is variously recorded with either l or r. The further variation between the French and English editions of 1703 sheds some light on the editorial process, and the general congruence between the occasional Algonquin word in his travel narratives and those in the Petit Dictionaire seems to corroborate Lahontan’s account of his efforts at language learning. The political establishment and his Jesuit detractors notwithstanding, Lahontan’s Algonquin vocabulary proved to be as influential in its domain as his narrative and philosophical writings were in the intellectual and literary world of the 18th century.

Résumé Maurice landgrave de Hesse (1572–1632), dit Maurice le Savant en raison de son érudition, fit publier en 1631 un volumineux dictionnaire français-allemand, destiné en premier lieu aux élèves du collège qu’il avait fondé. L’organisation du texte est quelque peu déroutante dans la mesure où l’auteur regroupe les entrées selon leur appartenance à telle ou telle classe de mots et qu’à l’intérieur des sections destinées aux différentes parties du discours, les entrées ne sont pas traitées dans l’ordre alphabétique habituel. Après avoir analysé la description métalexicographique pratiquée dans ce dictionnaire, nous nous penchons sur la question de savoir de quelles sources l’auteur a pu s’inspirer: du Dictionaire François-Allemand de Levinus Hulsius (avant 1540–1606), sans doute, et peut-être du Thresor de la langve françoise de Jean Nicot (cl 520–1604).

Abstract:

En este ensayo, me ocupo de la metáfora del teatro que no sólo aparece en el título del Teatro crítico universal (1726–1739) de Benito Jerónimo Feijoo, sino que también fue aducida por Pierre Bayle en su Projet et fragmens d’un dictionaire critique (1692). Como trataré de mostrar, la metáfora del teatro en sí misma debe ser cuestionada críticamente, porque vincula más y otras dimensiones semánticas de las que solemos asociar hoy en día. Es cierto que, a principios de la Edad Moderna, la metáfora del teatro podía emplearse y se empleaba en multitud de contextos y con fines muy diversos. Sin embargo, la combinación de teatro y error, tal y como se da tanto en Bayle como en Feijoo, merece un examen más detenido. Se muestra cómo el Theatrum vitae humanae (1565) de Theodor Zwinger, que es el texto en el que Bayle afirma basar su Dictionnaire, introduce una noción de teatro que no se centra en el escenario sino en el auditorio. Esto es significativo tanto para las estrategias de escritura de Bayle como para las de Feijoo, ya que apunta a la gestión de vastos cuerpos de conocimiento y, en última instancia, a la citacionalidad de ambos proyectos. Al mismo tiempo, sitúa al lector frente a la sabiduría tradicional y prepara así un espacio para el modo emergente de la crítica –por algunos caracterizado como escepticismo– que informa los proyectos de ambos autores.

Abstract:

Este artigo analisa uma pesquisa que tem investido em incentivar os licenciandos a expressarem aquilo que excede nos discursos da formação de professores. Tendo Roland Barthes, Michel Foucault e Gilles Deleuze como intercessores, detém-se em pensar a escrita enquanto provocação, ferramenta que põe em movimento e movimenta o excurso dos discursos mais sedimentados acerca da educação, que dizem da figura do professor nos dias atuais. Traz percepções que resultam de um exercício de estranhar o que se diz a respeito do “ser professor”. Desenvolvida junto a estudantes de licenciaturas da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, tem feito da escrita e do escrever, reunidos pelo conceito de fantasia, um dispositivo de intervenção. Dando forma a esse exercício de estranhamento, nomeado ornitorrincar, uma vez que se utiliza da figura do ornitorrinco, cria o Dicionário Raciocinado das Licenciaturas, que se inspira em alguns procedimentos operados pela Encyclopédie ou Dictionaire Raisonné des Sciences, des Arts et des Métiers, de Denis Diderot e Jean d’Alembert. Composto por quatro Tomos e com um total de noventa e três licenciandos participantes, agencia uma produção coletiva de textos na forma de verbetes, resultado de provocações filosóficas e literárias. O ornitorrinco surge no projeto como imagem-guia, espécie de imagem-conceito que sintetiza a força de estranhamento e o trabalho do desconhecido, qualidades vitais à docência e, por conseguinte, à formação de professores. Tal desafio tem convocado os estudantes a se perceberem e a escreverem sobre essa experiência de tornar-se professor. Ao invés da simples denúncia, os verbetes que compõem o dicionário são um convite ao estranhamento dos lugares comuns que compõem a formação de professores, uma solicitação a ornitorrincarem concepções e experiências docentes.

RESUMENA mediados del siglo XVI, la mina de azogue de Almadén adquirió una gran importancia debido al descubrimiento del método industrial de la amalgamación para los minerales de plata de baja ley. Los accidentes, enfermedades y el impago de salarios hicieron que el trabajo de minero no fuera atractivo para los forasteros, de modo que faltaban brazos para dar la producción de azogue necesaria para abastecer a las minas americanas de plata. En el siglo XVII, el Consejo de Hacienda intentó solucionar el problema de las consignaciones económicas, lo que resultó harto difícil en una España con graves dificultades financieras y, por otra parte, trató de conseguir mano de obra para la mina, fuera forzada, esclava o procedente del repartimiento de pueblos cercanos.PALABRAS CLAVE: Almadén, azogue, siglo XVII, mineros, repartimiento.ABSTRACTIn the middle of the 16th century, the Almadén quicksilver mine acquired considerable importance due to the discovery of the industrial method of amalgamation of low-grade silver ores. Abstract:

In this paper we want to make a contrastive presentation, in French and in Romanian, upon the way the unstressed pronominal forms having the function of complement in the Dative are used in proverbs. We also want to emphasize the similarities and the differences between the two languages – when we speak about the morpho-syntactic and the semantic levels. Such differences and similarities occur especially when it comes to the possession relationship. Most part of our study is dedicated to presenting some special values of the unstressed pronominal forms in the possessive Dative – including the variant of the Dative with an attributive function and the ethical Dative. We have done this research in order to establish to what extent the use of such constructions varies. We shall also emphasize the specific constructions in Romanian where the Dative has a neutral value and the analytic Dative is thought as a prepositional group in the colloquial language. In order to illustrate this phenomenon in a better way, we relied our study on a corpus of proverbs and adages which were selected from specialized collections and electronic versions of some dictionairies.

Though dictionaires hold the appearance of lexical catalogues, theyare constituted as texts with their own rules for the production of meaning. As such,they take the value of a didactic discourse that under the appearance of neutrality,exert strong influence on society’s linguistic behaviors. In order to bring to lightthe non-neutrality (absence of neutrality) of the lexicographical discourse, theauthor undertakes an analysis of the entry woman in a set of dictionaires ofPortuguese language from a point of view that conceives this semantic microcosmas a place of tension between the individual and the collective.

Abstract:

Abstract From 1632 to the late 1670s, the English-French lexicographic scene was monopolized by Robert Sherwood’s Dictionaire Anglois & François, which was annexed to Randle Cotgrave’s second edition of the Dictionarie of the French and English Tongues and reissued in all subsequent editions (1650, 1660, and 1673). Sherwood’s work would have been the source of choice for any lexicographer wanting to compile a new English-French dictionary. However, for Guy Miège, the author of A New Dictionary French and English, with another English and French published in 1677, Sherwood’s dictionary seems to have been a minor influence at best. What the relation between them sets forth is the significantly new range and originality of Miège’s work in comparison, as demonstrated in this study.

Ya antes del índice, una nota introduce la colección en la que se incluye este volumen. Se trata del undécimo de los sesenta volúmenes publicados. Esta colección toma el relevo del Dictionaire de linguistique romane (ocho volúmenes publicados entre 1988 y 2005) y de la Histoire des langues romanes (tres volúmenes publicados entre 2003 y 2008). Las lenguas elegidas para esta nueva colección son el francés, el italiano, el español, el inglés y, en contadas ocasiones, el portugués. Sorprende, por tanto, que se hayan excluido otras lenguas románicas con estatus oficial, como el catalán, el aranés, el gallego o el rumano. Y por inglés, ¿no nos referimos al impreciso globish que se ha convertido en la lingua franca? En cualquier caso, este manual está escrito íntegramente en francés.

O TRATAMENTO DA CULTURA EM DICIONÁRIOS DE INGLÊSResumo: Este artigo analisa o tratamento cultural dado aos dicionários de inglês monolíngues, bilíngues e híbridos nas versões impressa e eletrônica. Identifica, por meio da pesquisa documental, as informações de caráter cultural associadas às palavras-entrada em tais dicionários. Além disso, destaca as contribuições das pesquisas lexicográficas, metalexicográficas e demais pesquisadores das ciências do léxico. Os resultados mostraram que as informações culturais estão presentes na macroestrutura e microestrutura dos dicionários.Palavras-chave: Lexicografia; Dicionários; Cultura; Inglês. TREATMENT OF CULTURE IN ENGLISH DICTIONARIESAbstract: This article analyzes the cultural treatment given to the monolingual, bilingual and hybrids English dictionaires in eletronic and printed version. Identifies by documental research the cultural information combined to entries in such dictionaries. Furthermore, highlights the lexicographic, metalexicographic and other lexical researches sciences. Además, destaca las contribuciones de las investigaciones lexicográficas, metalexicográficas y demás investigadores de las ciencias del léxico. Na França, o grande projeto de sistematização do conhecimento, iniciado por Diderot e d’Alambert na Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire Raisonné des Sciences, des Arts et des Métiers (1751-1772), na qual Jacques- François Blondel (1705 – 1774) compôs os artigos que se referiam à Arquitetura, teve continuidade em sucessivos projetos enciclopédicos na segundametade do século XVIII e ao longo do século XIX. Um desses projetos é o da Encyclopédie Méthodique de Charles-Joseph Panckoucke1, no qual, em 1788, Quatremère de Quincy2 foi comissionado para organizar o Dictionnaire d’Architecture.

RESUMENEn este texto se trata de mostrar la relación que existe entre la emergencia de la francofonía institucional en los años sesenta y la automatización del campo del diccionario de Québec con la inclusión de marcas topolectuales en los diccionarios franceses (Petit Robert, Petit Larousse illustré, Dictionnaire Hachette, Dictionnaire du français vivant, etc). Con este objetivo se remontará a los orígenes de la práctica lexicográfica de Québec explicando el paso entre la dialéctica interlectal y la dialéctica intralectal. Finalmente se explicará que a pesar de una visión esencialista de la lengua francesa, diferentes acciones han sido emprendidas para tratar de dar a los quebequeses herramientas matalingüísticas que tomen en cuenta su uso. La modificación de las prácticas metalingüísticas puede ser puesta en relación con el surgimiento de prácticas variacionistas.ABSTRACTIn this text, I will try to show the relation existing between the emergence of the institutional Francophony in the 1960's and the auonomization of the field of the dictionary of Québec with the inclusion of the topolectal marks in the French dictionaries (the Petit Robert, Petit Larousse illustré, Dictionnaire Hatchette, Dictionaire du français vivant, etc). Withi this intention I will go up with the sources of the problematics to the intralectal problematics. Finally, I will explain that, in spite of an essentialist vision of the French language, various actions were undertaken to try to give to the Quebequers metalinguistics tools taking into acount their particularities. The modification of the metalinguistics practices can be compared with the rise of variation practices.

Abstract:

The paper, as reflected in the title, uses the method of phenomenology in investigating interiorization in spirituality. The project is carried out as it investigates the 98 appearances of interiorization in Dictionaire de Spiritualite and 33 appearances of interiorization and related words in Kees Waajman’s Spirituality: Forms, Foundations, and Methods. The description of these appearances where placed side by side/on top of each other noting the difference but more importantly, surfacing the invariable. Further, they were explored through the paradigms of spirituality namely, poles of reality, praxes in spiritual life; movements, moments and transformation. The paper phenomenology describes interiorization as a process/movement within the reciprocity of Divine-Human dialogical relationship, a movement that is essentially transformative.
