<p>This degree project has studied how a changed preparation affected students' outcome of a laboratory exercise. Through use of cognitive load theory and sociocultural theory a guided writing of summary was designed. Students in secondary school were let to prepare for a laboratory exercise through a traditional teacher led introduction or the guided writing of summary. Syftet med den här studien är att undersöka om och hur abakusen kan vara ett alternativt verktyg för elever med svårigheter i matematik. Sex intervjuer med matematiklärare har genomförts. Die Studie zeigt die positiven affektiven Wirkungen des außerschulischen Lernortes Schülerlabor und repliziert damit frühere Arbeiten in diesem Bereich. Darüber hinaus wird der Einfluss von Betreuenden und Betreuung auf die Wirksamkeit von Schülerlaboren erstmals im Rahmen einer systematischen Untersuchung betrachtet und ein Wirkmodell abgeleitet.
