Abstract:
This chapter examines Aymer de Valence's career between 1296 and June 1312. Aymer's career began after his father died in June 1296, although it was only after his mother's death in 1307 that he took over the palatine lands and earned the title of Earl of Pembroke. As lord of Montignac he started to carve a name for himself in Edward I's wars and in the royal diplomacy for which his connections to France made him especially suited. The chapter traces Aymer's career from his participation in Edward I's Flanders campaign in 1297 to his role as envoy to France and his involvement in the Scottish wars over the next ten years. In particular, it considers Aymer's services to the monarchy after Prince Edward's accession on 8 July 1307. It also discusses Aymer's role in the surrender of Piers Gaveston, Earl of Cornwall, and his attitude toward the Ordainers.

Abstract:
This chapter presents a portrait of Branko J. Widick, who died on June 28, 2008, at the age of ninety-seven. He was not a well-known figure in the annals of American labor and its committed partisans. However, he deserves much recognition and admiration because Widick was not only an activist at the very epicenter of the great strikes that launched the industrial unions in the 1930s, but he also remained a radical and an acutely honest observer throughout those postwar decades when the great organizations he had helped to build entered an era of stagnation and decline. Widick was among those men of the left, including the influential group who were influenced by Shachtman's “third camp” socialism, for whom the post-World War II United Auto Workers (UAW) became the institution into which they poured their passion, intellect, and organizational energies.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the early French in Illinois and tells the story of the state's first black settler, Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable. The scant documentary records of colonial Illinois include the report of a crude census conducted in 1732. Negroes at that time numbered 69 men, 33 women, and 64 children, as compared with 159 white men, 39 women, and an uncertain number of children. The chapter considers a number of factors that connect Jean Baptiste De Saible and the ancient Du Sable family of French ancestry, and suggests that his patronage may be accounted for by a custom of the times: Negro and Indian slavery. It then turns to Du Sable, who spent the years from 1805 to 1814 in and about St. Charles, Missouri. In June 1813, Point Du Sable transferred a house, lot and other property in St. Charles to Eulalie Barode, his grand-daughter, wife of Michael Derais. On October 10, 1814, Du Sable “applied for the benefit of the law relative to insolvents.” He died soon thereafter.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Master Tara Singh issued a statement on 4 June that the 3 June Plan did not give ‘any power or status’ to the Sikhs or anything ‘safeguarding their position or interests’. The ultimate acceptance of the plan, he said, would depend on the terms of reference for the Boundary Commission. A cycle of retaliation and reprisal started before 15 August 1947 as a prelude to an unprecedented exodus in world history. Giani Kartar Singh was thinking of reorganization of the East Punjab to form ‘a Sikh majority province’, including the princely states of the plains. But Nehru was opposed to any kind of political safeguards. His vision of India after Independence had little room for the long-cherished hopes and aspirations of the Akalis.

Abstract:
Born under the sign of Gemini, between May 14 and June 13, 1265, most likely towards the end of May, in a low-nobility family in Florence, he was baptized on March 26, 1266, with the name of During, later abbreviated to Dante, the name of which he became known for posterity. He died between the 13th and 14th of September 1321 after making a diplomatic trip in the city of Venice representing the city of Ravenna, Dante, possibly suffering from malaria. By spiritist analysis, Dante was a powerful medium, but he lived and wrote in a period dominated by the Church, and, according to Ranieri (2012, p. 57) defined, he was not fully understood where he considered his work to be written only by the poetic aspect and not as a real experience, experienced exponentially in its nocturnal incursions through the astral unfolding and the scenes portrayed present realities of the different spiritual worlds existing on our Planet. Therefore, in this year of 2021, in which Dante celebrates 700 years of death, the present book is a tribute to this poet who presented us with a classic of world literature through a bias previously unexplored.

Abstract:
This chapter examines Muller's aftermath in legal history through the landmark case of Adkins v. Children's Hospital (1923). In Oregon, an employer (Children's Hospital) sought an injunction against the DC Minimum Wage Board to restrain it from imposing the minimum wage of $16.50 per week for women workers in hotels, hospitals, restaurants, clubs, and apartment houses. The District of Columbia Supreme Court upheld the law in June 1920, as did the DC Court of Appeals in June 1921. However, at the second hearing in November 1922, the DC Court of Appeals upset the law. In 1923, when Adkins v. Children's Hospital reached the Supreme Court, defenders of the minimum wage faced a less receptive roster of justices than they had in 1917; recent appointments made in wartime and soon after had produced a more conservative court. As such, the Supreme Court failed to sustain the District of Columbia minimum wage law by a 5–3 decision.
