Abstract:
On November 25th, 2020, Diego Armando Maradona, the legend of Argentine, Latin American and world football, passed away. Although his life has aroused controversy, being a series of bothspectacular ups and painful downs, the fans never turned away from him and Maradona’s funeral, despite the ongoing pandemic, gathered real crowds. This text attempts to explain the phenomenon of Diego Armando Maradona by presenting his story in relation to the history of Latin America and proving that the Argentine attacker was a reflection of both the advantages and the problems of the region he came from and with which he identified himself.

Abstract:
Among the ‘first eleven’ items of interest in the National Football Museum, Manchester, UK is the football shirt worn by Diego Maradona (b. 1960) in the 1986 FIFA World Cup quarter-final match between Argentina and England. This paper reflects upon the cultural significance of the shirt as a museum object. A discussion of the shirt’s history, from its wearing at the 1986 match to its imminent reappearance in the National Football Museum’s new location, leads to the conclusion that, above all, although it may be subject to differing symbolic interpretations, the shirt exists as a material object, the observation of which affords football aesthetes an appreciative reminder of Maradona’s extraordinary artistry with a ball at his feet.

El 22 de junio de 1986 Diego Armando Maradona anotó contra Inglaterra uno de los tantos más célebres de la historia del fútbol, conocido como “El Gol del Siglo”. El presente artículo propone un acercamiento mítico a la figura del futbolista argentino a partir del análisis de tres relatos de ficción que recrean en detalle este episodio: “Maradona sí, Galtieri no”, de Osvaldo Soriano; “Me van a tener que disculpar”, de Eduardo Sacheri; y “10.6 segundos”, de Hernán Casciari. La naturaleza doble del héroe se amolda al retrato de Maradona que ofrecen estos textos. Su periplo, su gesta, se inserta en el imaginario colectivo recurriendo a motivos arquetípicos recogidos también por la literatura.

Intentaré demostrar que, para estudiar la heroificación del gol de Maradona contra Inglaterra, el autor urde un contexto interpretativo mayor, donde las referencias mitológicas funcionan como veladas alusiones al conflicto de Atlántico Sur.</p>

RESUMOO presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar o modo de endereçamento das publicidades veiculadas pela mídia televisiva brasileira a partir da presença do ídolo futebolístico argentino Diego Maradona em relação à Copa do Mundo de Futebol de 2014. Tratou-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, de caráter descritivo, que teve a pretensão de analisar um produto midiático articulado ao espaço social mais amplo e a produção de sentidos nele intencionados. Os dados empíricos foram coletados em 02 propagandas: a das “Sandálias Havaianas” e a do Portal de classificados “Bomnegócio.com”. A análise dos modos de endereçamento foi feita a partir de dois eixos de análise considerados a priori: (1) rivalidade x nacionalidade e, (2) desejo de má sorte. Como resultado, podemos inferir que utilizar a imagem de Maradona em período de Copa do Mundo tratou-se de uma opção publicitária que procurou intensificar a rivalidade entre Brasil e Argentina a fim de atingir, sobretudo, os brasileiros aficionados por futebol e pela seleção brasileira, alimentando diferenças identitárias vinculadas a essas duas nações.Palavras-chave:Endereçamento. ABSTRACTThis article aims at analyzing how the Brazilian television media addressed the presence of the Argentine idol Maradona in relation to the 2014 World Cup. This research is a descriptive study designed to analyze a media product which was articulated to a broader social space and to the production of meaning intended in it. The empiric data were collected in 02 advertisements, the Brazilian flip flops called “Havaianas” and the e-commerce website “Bomnegócio.com”. The analysis about the addressing modes was made from two aspects: (1) rivalry x nationality and, (2) the desire to jinx. We have inferred that the use of Maradona’s image during the World Cup period was an advertising option that sought to intensify the rivalry between Brazil and Argentina in order to achieve, above all, the Brazilian fans of soccer and fans of the Brazilian soccer team, increasing identity differences linked to these two nations.Keywords: Addressing. En el contexto de una reflexión que apunta a la relación entre deporte e identidades, el texto aborda conceptos como cultura, héroe popular o subalternidad a partir del análisis del alcance de la figura del futbolista argentino Diego Maradona. Su muerte en noviembre de 2020, que provocó enormes manifestaciones de dolor público, desató una intensa cobertura que abusó de términos tales como mito, símbolo, héroe, ídolo e identidad. La pregunta clave giró en torno de hasta dónde Maradona, un deportista inigualable y simultáneamente una figura pública conflictiva, por su conducta personal (entre ellas, condenas deportivas y causas penales por consumo de drogas) y por sus posiciones políticas vinculadas al populismo de izquierda, podía ser considerado un símbolo de una presunta identidad nacional.

Nel mondo dello sport, ed in particolare in quello del calcio, da alcuni anni hanno acquisito sempre più importanza le biografie, genere letterario che solitamente viene invece associato alle storie di personaggi politici e storici piuttosto che alle vite di grandi campioni sportivi. In questo articolo vengono analizzate le biografie ufficiali di quattro leggende del calcio, autentiche icone planetarie, quali quella di George Best, Johann Cruyff, Diego Armando Maradona e Francesco Totti. Attraverso la comparazione di alcuni episodi comuni (i primi calci, l’esordio nel professionismo, il passaggio da “semplice” calciatore a fenomeno globale) si è cercato di comprendere se dall’analisi delle singole biografie è possibile rintracciare uno “schema narrativo” che cerca di soddisfare le aspettative del lettore e ne rafforzi il rapporto di identificazione con il proprio idolo.

Abstract:
In this article, we examine the visual motif of the corpse and its presence in the public sphere in times of pandemic from an iconographic, political and anthropological perspective. Through the analysis of the representation of the dead body in images presented by modern media, we reflect on how the formal and iconographic schemes of presentation of death were transformed following the irruption of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020. The pandemic scheme, which is unusual from a political and anthropological perspective, assumes a particular approach to the problem of the representation of the dead body (anonymous body, carrier of a virus), encrypted in a dialectic between systematic omission and censorship and displacement of the representation of death towards the cumulative symmetry of empty pits or coffins that prefigure the corpse to come. Pandemic iconography, often based on science fiction imagery, outlines the dehumanized restlessness of a dystopian future. Under these exceptional conditions, some corpses, which are a priori anonymous, stand out, showing, even in the suspended space of Covid-19, the permanence of structural schemes of violence that must be denounced and fought in the present. With that in mind, we also examine the corpses claimed by Black Lives Matter and their distinctive representations, which are very different from those of the victims of the epidemic. Finally, through these references and based on the media treatment of Diego Armando Maradona’s body, we consider the significance of the return of the iconic corpse to the center of the public sphere, which imposes a regime of extreme visibility and goes beyond the representative limits of pandemic exceptionality.
