This article introduces one of the alternative reformatory confessions from the Diet of Augsburg 1530, the Confessio Tetrapolitana (CT). Due to the disagreement with the Saxonian/Lutheran party at the Diet, the German imperial cities of Strasbourg, Konstanz, Memmingen and Lindau delivered their own account of faith written by the Strasbourg theologians Martin Bucer and Wolfgang Capito. The article describes the historical background and the political and theological position of Strasbourg and its envoys at the Augsburg Diet. ABSTRACT In the city archive in Giengen on the Brenz, a manuscript was discovered that in all probability deals with the oldest known ecclesiastical ordinance of Augsburg. On the basis of other information, the text itself has long been regarded as lost. The ordinance encompasses regulations for the contraction of marriage, baptism, the Lord’s Supper, and also evening prayers. In its content, it stands in close relation to other ordinances governing evangelical church activity in Augsburg. Drawing on the example of the editions of a Protestant bestseller, Martin Luther’s Hauspostille, printed several times in Nuremberg between 1544 and 1548 by Johann vom Berg and Ulrich Neuber, the study examines the sources, location, and function of the anticlerical motifs in the Protestant postils. Prominent in the first editions of the Hauspostille of 1544 and 1545, the anticlerical scenes were eliminated in 1548. The authors argue that both the usage and subsequent removal of these woodcuts was dependent not on the direct religious context in Luther’s sermons, but on pragmatic political con

This thesis examines Charles V's inability to take decisive military action against the Protestant threat in Germany before 1546. It treats modern historiography on Charles V in Germany. The thesis offers a new theory concerning religious motivation for the delay. Charles was a man of deep and devoted faith in the Catholic Church and consequently, was unable to accept the possibility that any individual would doubt or abandon that persuasion without calculated intention or gross error. Charles was influenced by the Humanistic cries for reform in his age. As a result, Charles, a strong advocate
