Abstract:
: Many catalysts were tested in asymmetric Michael additions in order to synthesize enantioenriched products. One of the most common reaction types among the Michael reactions is the conjugated addition of malonates to enones making it possible to investigate the structure–activity relationship of the catalysts. The most commonly used Michael acceptors are chalcone, substituted chalcones, chalcone derivatives, cyclic enones, while typical donors may be dimethyl, diethyl, dipropyl, diisopropyl, dibutyl, di-tert-butyl and dibenzyl malonates. This review summarizes the most important enantioselec

Condensations of 1,4-bis(4-aminophenoxy)butane Ia and its N,N'-dimethyl derivative Ib with substituted diethyl malonates gave 1,4-bis(4-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinolin-6-yloxy)butanes IIa-IIf. From these compounds, 1,4-bis(3-halogeno-2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-6-ylox y)butanes IIIa-IIIg and 1,4-bis(3-hydroxy-2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-6-yloxy )butanes IIIh-IIIm were prepared.

The title compounds (16α-carboxymethyl-3α-hydroxy-5α-pregnan-20-one and its sodium and triethylammonium salts) were prepared from 20-oxopregna-5,16-dien-3β-yl acetate by conjugate addition of dimethyl malonate and decarboxylation. Inversion of configuration at carbon C-3 was carried out by Mitsunobu acylation with diethyl azodicarboxylate and formic acid in the presence of triphenylphosphine.

Novel bisphosphonate alkylating agent, tetraisopropyl {2-[(mesyloxy)methyl]propane-1,3-diyl}bis(oxymethylene)bisphosphonate 19, was synthesized from diethyl 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)malonate. Decarbethoxylation of the diethyl 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-5,5-dicarboxylate was followed by chloromethylation of 2-[(benzyloxy)methyl]propane-1,3-diol and Arbuzov reaction with triisopropyl phosphite. Alkaline hydrolysis of diethyl 1-(tetrahydro-2-furyl)-3-(1-naphthyl)propane-2,2-dicarboxylate (IV) gave the crude acid V which was purified via the dipotassium salt and was obtained as the homogeneous higher melting crystal form. Its thermic decarboxylation yielded the acid II as a mixture of two racemates (38 : 62); crystallization led to the almost homogeneous racemate B (10 : 90). Reaction of the sodium salt of II with dimethyl sulfate in methanol gave the methyl ester III which afforded by ester exchange with 2-diethylaminoethanol the ester I (mixture of two racemates 34 : 66). 2-Diethylam
