Abstract:
An economic analysis has been performed to compare four nuclear fuel cycle options: a once-through cycle (OT), DUPIC recycling, thermal recycling using MOX fuel in a pressurized water reactor (PWR-MOX), and sodium fast reactor recycling employing pyroprocessing (Pyro-SFR). This comparison was made to suggest an economic competitive fuel cycle for the Republic of Korea. The fuel cycle cost (FCC) has been calculated based on the equilibrium material flows integrated with the unit cost of the fuel cycle components. The levelized fuel cycle costs (LFCC) have been derived in terms of mills/kWh for

The Yang-Mills theory structure is based on group theory. It rules the symmetry relationship where the number of potential fields transforming under a same group must be equal to the number of group generators. It defines the group valued expression from where the corresponding non-abelian symmetry properties are derived.
Nevertheless based on different origins as Kaluza-Klein, fibre bundles, supersymmetry, s-model , BRST and anti-BRST algorithm, counting degrees of freedom leads to a Yang-Mills extension under the existence of different potential fields rotating under a same single grou

Quadrumat and Buhler mills are usually used to produce flour at a laboratory level. Flour quality has been determined physically, chemically, and rheologically. Results showed that the particle size of flour produced by Buhler mill (FPB) was finer (mostly less than 132 μm) than other produced flour, while flour produced by Quadrumat mill (FPQ) had 8% particle size bigger than 50gg, which is more than Iraqi accepted limit (5%). Abstract Four austenitic and two duplex stainless steels were studied in three different paper mills. Thin aerobic biofilms were observed on the specimens. No SRB (sulphate reducing bacteria) could be detected. The alloy, AISI 304L, suffered from pitting corrosion caused by thiosulphate which was a decomposition product of sodium dithionate. Occasionally very high total chlorine concentrations were noticed in the biofilm but the chlorine was predominantly combined as organic chlorine. A high amount of chlorine can lead to an increased risk of pitting corrosion of stainless steels.

Abstract The deterioration of concrete structures due to chloride induced reinforcing steel corrosion such as in elevated concrete floor slabs, columns, and beams in bleach plants is a constant and growing problem within the pulp and paper industry. In general, the condition analysis methods used for assessing the extent of bleach plant concrete degradation include physical testing of drilled concrete core samples, chloride ion concentration testing, half-cell potential measurements, and physical sounding of concrete surfaces, i.e. chain drag for topside surfaces and hammer sounding of soffit

Abstract Different mechanisms are contributing to mineral scale generation in the gas condensate producer wells in Ghawar Field. Carbonate scales are the main mineral scale growing up in the reservoir side while sulfate scales are the mineral compounds deposit along the production strings. Several methods have been implemented to dissolve the mineral scales in the reservoir and to mitigate the mineral deposits found into production string. A combination of mechanical tools (Vibra hammer, motor-mills, Pulsonix and variety of scale blasters) with chemical fluids (foam, DTPA, water and low HCl co

Abstract:
This research program was undertaken to investigate the use of the pulsed- gas metal-arc welding (PGMAW) process for the field, girth welding of API 5LX-80 pipe. The specific program objectives were as follows: Determine the optimum shielding in gas, commercial filler wire, and weld procedure for the PGMA girth 5LX -80 pipe welding in the 5G position of API to determine the mechanical properties of PGMA girth welds deposited in five, API 5LX-80 pipes manufactured by different pipe mills. During the granting period, we performed the following projects: Firstly, we differentially measured glucan content in several pleurotus mushroom strains. Mushroom polysaccharides are edible polymers that have numerous reported biological functions; the most common effects are attributed to β-glucans. In recent years, it became apparent that the less abundant α-glucans also possess potent effects in various health conditions. In our first study, we explored several Pleurotus species for their total, β and α-glucan content. Pleurotuseryngii was found to have the highest total glucan concentrati

This study used data from the 2017 National Household Travel Survey California Add-On sample to explore how replacing the current state vehicle fuel tax with a flat-per-mile-rate road-user charge (RUC) would affect costs for different kinds of households. We first estimated how household vehicle fuel efficiency, mileage, and fuel tax expenditures vary by geography (rural vs. urban) and by income. These findings were then used to estimate how much different types of households pay in the current per-gallon state fuel tax, what they would pay if the state were to replace fuel taxes with a flat-r

The purpose of this research program was to determine the requirement to stop active pitting and compare that to the requirement to stop general corrosion and prevent pit initiation. This report examines the cathodic protection requirement to stop active pitting in buried natural gas transmission lines and compare it to the cathodic protection requirement to stop general corrosion and further prevent pit initiation. During the two-year period of this research program, two different pit geometries were examined: (1) a small diameter pit of 10 mils in diameter and approximately 10 mils deep whic

INDOT plans to invest nearly $100 million to build a statewide electric vehicle (EV) charging network as part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program. SPR-4509 Phase-I identified energy EV charging deserts in Indiana for long-distance trips. SPR-4509 Phase-II further examines the charging stations' impact on EV long-distance trips in Indiana. Using an agent-based simulation model, the number of charges, vehicle miles traveled, energy used during the trip, and energy used during charging were estimated for nine different cases. This report summarizes the work completed in PRCI SCC-2-12A project: The Effect of Pressure Fluctuations on the Growth Rate of Near-Neutral pH SCC, which is Phase 3 of the work on the same subject of investigation. The following insights from the current phase of the PRCI SCC-2-12A project are thought to be the most important: - Near neutral pH crack initiation is pressure-fluctuation dependent. Severe pressure fluctuations accelerate the fracture and spallation of mill scale on the pipeline steel surfaces, making it harder to initiate SCC cracks from the bottom of pits that are developed at f

This paper is concerned with the multiple opportunities and challenges of artisanal palm oil processing and the potential multiplier effects on local economies. It examines the effect of the presence of large oil palm plantations and their industrial processing mills on artisanal palm oil processing in two districts in the Western region of Ghana. Although artisanal and industrial processors have co-existed for a long time in the same catchment areas, little is known about the impact of this relationship on artisanal processing.
