Full textWe are in an emerging digital society where we are increasingly dependent on the mastery of IT and digital technologies to better carry out our everyday tasks. They cover everything from keeping in touch with family and friends to pay bills and declare. At the same time there are those who have not learned how to use the new technology and live their lives outside of the digital society. What happens to these people, in a society that is becoming increasingly digitized? Do they take harm by being in digital exclusion? It looks like this are issues that will not become less important as digital technology constantly changes. Technology of the future will be equally undesirable for tomorrow's elderly as today's technology is undesirable for today’s elderly.
This research report looks at how to find a way to get those who involuntary find themselves in digital isolation to get an entry to digital use and become part of the digital society. The report makes use of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Senior Technology Acceptance & Adoption Model (STAM), models developed to predict whether users will accept or reject a system, to find out how you may be able to get users to want to use and learn a system.
In a study reminiscent of an experiment in which four participants with low experience in IT use has been testing a simple Content Management System (CMS), and started to use IT in their work, this report concludes that there are tendencies showing that workplace could be an interesting entrance when you are trying to create an interest in IT and digital technology in those who are in the digital exclusion.

Neurodegenerative diseases affect the cognition of millions of people worldwide, degrading their quality of life and placing a burden on their families. Early identication can be extremely beneficial in treating or slowing down the onset of these diseases. One technique used to identify early warning signs is the use of cognitive tests. Unfortunately, grading these tests is subjective. In this study, we quantitatively evaluated the digital Symbol Digit Test (dSDT), in which patients translate symbols into digits based on a given mapping. In collaboration with Dr. Penney of Lahey Clinic, we administered the dSDT to over 170 patients using a digitizing pen that measures its position on the page and the pressure applied. We developed support vector machine and logistic regression classifiers that indicate Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease with an area under the curve of 0.957 and 0.963, respectively.

Full textAn interview study was carried out together with the company Usify who are developing a treatment program for adults diagnosed with ADHD. The study had six participants who were diagnosed with either ADHD or ADD. The aim of the study was to hear what experiences the participants had after using the material consisting of videos, texts and audio files that had been made for the treatment program. In this material there were explanations of the different difficulties that ADHD give rise to and practical ways to cope with these. The interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis which resulted in eight themes that reflected the participants experiences, opinions and reflections regarding the material. In som cases the participants agreed with each other whereas they disagreed in others. They were positive regarding some aspects of the material and negative regarding others. Based on the results the discussion elaborates on how Usify can go about to design a service that meets user needs and requests. One of the important findings was that in order to have the user motivated to use the service the videos and texts must be kept short, but at the same time there must be depth to the information that gives new insights and understanding to the user. This information should be given in both text- and video format since the two formats have different strengths compared to each other.

Full textPurpose The overall purpose of the study is to develop the understanding of how digitally maturing companies design and operates the digital unit. The study has examined the organization within the companies that directly or indirectly develop digital offerings (the digital unit) towards external customers , and has utilized the holistic concept of an operating model in order to do so. The purpose is addressed by the following research question: What common factors exist between the digital units of digitally maturing companies? Method The study is exploratory in its nature with an inductive approach, in which a qualitative multiple case study was conducted. In order to study digitally matured companies, the selection process involved the help of digital experts as well as previous studies on digital maturity. In total, 21 semi-structured interviews with informants from 8 digitally matured companies were conducted, together with 4 interviews with experts in digitalization and business development. The informants had a good understanding of respective organization, and the data was complemented with publicly available information such as reports, presentations and websites. Results The results show that there are many common factors between the studied organizations that can help explain as to why they are prevalent in digital innovation and maturity. In total, 22 common themes were identified between the organizations’ digital units by studying their operating models. The identified themes were aggregated into a proposal of 4 generic design principles for how the digital units could be designed in order to prosper digital innovation. In addition, a framework for operations modelling is presented with a focus on digital units. Theoretical implications The theoretical implications from the study is primarely fourfolded: (1) the study develops the knowledge of digitally matured companies and concretizes the result from previous studies. (2) The study develops the concept of an operating model by identifying and bridging 6 academic fields. (3) The study presents a suggested framework for modelling the operations in general, and particularly for the design of the digital unit. (4) The study support a multidisciplinary approach to studying best praxis from a holistic perspective. Practical implications The results from the study can serve as inspiration when designing organizations for today’s the managers in general, and for the managers within digital innovation in particular. The suggested framework and design principles can facilitate the process of understanding and designing a synergetic operation that support the business model and strategy.

Full textPurpose: Today, the interest in digitalizing and efficiency in the construction industryis increasing. Despite the interest, many actors have not completely switched to digitalworking methods, not least surveyors. Through the study, these thresholds forinadequate digitalization can be analyzed at an individual level. When implementingdigital work methods, the innovation first meets the experiences and competencies ofthe surveyors. Furthermore, the method is filtered through the characteristics ofinnovation theory and finally, individuals decide if the change is accepted or rejected.The aim of the study was to increase understanding of how surveyors experience digitalworking methods at an individual level based on different work experience. The studyalso highlighted the economic consequences in connection to digital working methods. Method: The study was conducted with a qualitative focus. Initially, a literature studywas conducted which was the base of the investigated issue. The qualitative focus onthe study based on twelve interviews surveyors from WSP Sverige AB and twoobservations. The surveyors had different work experiences and worked in differentlocations in Sweden. The qualitative interviews formed the basis for answering thestudy’s three study questions. Findings: The study’s findings show differences in the use of digital working methodswith regard to different work experience, which underlie the way in which digital workmethods are received. However, the differences vary most between ages and offices inSweden. In order to make the surveyors working methods more efficient, digitalizationmust be accepted and the reception must be understood on an individual level. Withdistinct course orientation, structure and educational efforts, the innovation digital workmethods can be spread. Working with tablets has a strong connection to more efficientwork process. It is for the benefit of being digitized to be more attractive andcompetitive in the market.The conclusions of the study results in a number of recommendations to develop thesurveyor’s working methods. The recommendations includes education about thedigitalization by internal and external lecturers, allowing less digitally experiencedsurveyors to follow colleagues who work in a completely digital wat and to developtoday’s business model for optimal financial gain through more efficient inspections. Implications: Digital working methods contributes to a more efficient workingprocesses for surveyors, which leads to a quicker and more distinct feedback to theirclients. The efficient work also contributes to increased released working hours.However, the released working hours are chargeable. Furthermore, it creates problemswhile charge per hours and introduce an innovation that releases chargeable hours. Thecompanies should develop their business model, to make use of these hours.

Full textMånga äldre anser att det är svårt att börja använda ny teknik och svårt att få hjälp när de behöver det. I ett samhälle som digitaliseras allt mer riskerar de därför att hamna i ett digitalt utanförskap. Svårigheterna gällande användandet av digital teknik kan bero på olika problemfaktorer som bristande motivation, otrygghet, komplexitet och otillräckliga förkunskaper. För att dessa faktorer ska kunna hanteras behöver de äldre ha tillgång till stöd. Tidigare forskning visar att äldre föredrar sociala stödformer, men om det sociala stödet inte kan erhållas behöver lämpliga ersättande stödverktyg finnas tillgängliga som kan underlätta användandet av digital teknik. Syftet med denna studie var att bidra till att minska det digitala utanförskapet bland äldre genom att studera hur olika digitala stödverktyg kan användas för att hantera problemfaktorer för digital teknik. En kvalitativ studie, som utgick från en teorimodell baserad på de fyra problemfaktorerna, genomfördes. Tre olika digitala stödverktyg, i form av skriftliga, auditiva och visuella instruktioner, utvärderades. Åsikter kring de digitala stödverktygen samt de olika problemfaktorerna samlades in från en IT-pedagog och från personer som var 65 år eller äldre genom två delstudier bestående av intervjuer och tänka högt-test. Resultatet visade att faktorerna bristande motivation och otrygghet kunde hanteras med digitala stödverktyg medan faktorerna komplexitet och otillräckliga förkunskaper var svårare att hantera. Resultatet visade också att användaren av digitala stödverktyg bör få välja om stödet ska nyttjas i ett auditivt, visuellt eller skriftligt format. De skriftliga instruktionerna var det stödverktyg som kunde hantera flest problemfaktorer medan de visuella instruktionerna var svårast att använda eftersom verktyget krävde digitala förkunskaper. När förkunskaperna var otillräckliga kunde inget av stödverktygen användas på ett optimalt sätt. Det är därmed svårt att minska det digitala utanförskapet enbart med hjälp av digitala stödverktyg, eftersom de som står längst utanför det digitala samhället och har störst behov av stöd, inte har de grundläggande kunskaperna för att använda verktygen.

This is a case study in purpose to investigate how Skånetrafiken works to counter digital exclusion, while at the same time trying to increase understanding of the concept digital exclusion. The theory used in this study was derived from literature on digital exclusion. It is based on Jan Van Dijk's research on digital exclusion, where the theory aims to explain the different levels of digital exclusion. The case is based on a qualitative interview study where five interviews have been conducted with employees from Skånetrafiken. Based on this, several factors have been identified in Skånetrafiken's working methods that promote digital inclusion. Furthermore, a theoretical contribution has been developed for how organizations should work to counter digital exclusion. The theoretical contribution is a result derived from the conceptual framework and the study of Skånetrafiken.

Full textBackground: The digital market is expansive, therefore introducing a new product into the market is critical, launch is a crucial factor. The launch is often costly, but not enough interest is given to it. The market introduction of gamifications usually fails for the reason that the understanding of the user is inferior. Purpose: The aim of the study is to contribute to increased understanding of how a launching strategy for a digital platform, based on a gamification, can look in the swedish market. Method: The study is based on a hermeneutical approach, the study is dealt with inductively with deductive elements, the theoretical frame of reference was processed with the intention of generating understanding and being treated fundamentally for the empirical material. The survey is based on qualitative methodology, semistructured interviews have been conducted in the form of individual interviews and focus groups, with an interviewguide as basis. The interviews were recorded, after which the empirical material was transcribed. The collected data was encoded and categorized. Conclusion: The study revealed three essential categories; Interest, Communication and Continuity, which came to form the Model User Desired Lifecycle. An interest can be aroused by the target audience, if the service meets a need that facilitates the user's everyday life. As users are quick to discourage digital solutions, the context of the message should include usability and ease of use. Communication through influencers proves preferred. Furthermore, it emerged that continuity can be created if the digital service gives rewards to the user, resulting in motivation to use the service again. Furthermore, it was found that companies should listen to users' opinions in order to update the service, which could result in a more targeted service.

Full textDet huvudsakliga syftet med denna uppsatts är att undersöka huruvida individer medkompetens inom film och foto kan identifiera digitalt bearbetat material. Studienkommer med hjälp av en enkät skapa en statistiks bild av ett stickprov. Deltagarna ienkäten är en utvald demografi bestående av nuvarande studenter vid HögskolanDalarna (inom filmproduktion) och även examinerade studenter. Dessa individer delasgenom enkäten upp i olika grupper baserad på deras kompetens inom film och foto.Själva enkäten består av två tester där deltagare bes skilja på ett material som är filmatmed ett diffuserande kamerafilter (Tiffen pro mist) och ett material som behandlatsdigitalt för att återskapa samma effekt. Vad diffusion är och hur det påverkar bildenkommer också utvecklas i texten. Totalt har 36 individer deltagit i studien, resultatetvisar inte något definitivt svar i frågeställningen för någon av kompetensgrupperna.Detta tyder på att det i fallet för diffusion inte nödvändigtvis finns en särskilt starkfördel med att använda ett analogt kamerafilter. Det som dock kan fastställas är att enhögre kompetens inom film och foto innebär en övergripande generell kunskap omkamerafilter och den digitala processen.

Esta pesquisa trata da utilização da fotogrametria digital para análise antropométrica de usários de cadeira de rodas. Para a análise dos dados foi utilizado o software Digita, disponibilizado através do convênio do Departamento de Design da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco Brasil - com o Departamento de Ergonomia da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa - Portugal. A coleta dos dados envolveu uma amostra aleatória de 18 indivíduos e ocorreu no Laboratório de Biomecânica da Faculdade Maurício de Nassau, localizada em Recife, Pernambuco. A metodologia aplicada compreende as etapas de Apreciação Ergonômica, Configuração da Base de Dados, Realização das Fotografias Digitais, Digitalização das Coordenadas e Apresentação dos Resultados. Foram analisadas 15 variáveis estruturais, referentes à antropometria estática, e 4 variáveis de alcance funcional, relativas à antropometria dinâmica. Os resultados obtidos foram apresentados através da análise dos dados pessoais, classificados por gênero, etnia e idade; da análise funcional amostral, classificados por diagnóstico clínico, resultados da avaliação articular, resultados da avaliação através do movimento e da avaliação postural; e da análise antropométrica amostral, que apontou para cada variável o número de pessoas, média, desvio padrão, valor mínimo, mediana e valor máximo

Diante das possibilidades de expressão na internet para produção de conteúdos digitais a partir de plataformas de manuseio simples, encontramos o blog como um espaço que possibilita essa ação em diferentes linguagens midiáticas, como texto, imagem, vídeo, a escolha de quem o utiliza. Uma ferramenta digital como o blog sendo trabalhada numa ação extensionista, em formato de oficina, que visa possibilidades de inclusão digital com seus participantes para divulgar suas ideias e produções digitais, amplia experiências de aprendizagem que vão além do estímulo à criatividade do produto digital, abordando também reflexões acerca do uso do blog, percepções do “eu” usuário no mundo digital e sobre inclusão digital, numa perspectiva de estimular (re)conhecimentos de mundo e mudanças para melhorar o espaço vivenciado por eles. Nesse quesito reconhecemos pontos chave dentro dessa ação: de alunos e professores, mediadores de um processo por colocarem suas intenções e experiências objetivando aprendizagens significativas. A partir desse contexto, o problema de pesquisa configurou-se em: como a mediação pedagógica promovida nas oficinas de blog do Programa de Extensão Proi-Digit@l contribui na produção de conteúdos digitais com blogs numa perspectiva de inclusão digital dos jovens participantes? Nesse sentido, a pesquisa analisou qual a contribuição da mediação pedagógica na produção de conteúdos digitais com blogs no programa de extensão Proi-Digit@l da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), para a concepção e perspectiva de inclusão digital dos jovens participantes de oficinas em Recife, e especificamente investigou a influência da mediação pedagógica dos professores e dos jovens na produção de conteúdos digitais com blogs; e analisou a relação destas mediações pedagógicas na concepção e perspectiva de inclusão digital dos jovens participantes durante a oficina de blog. Assim sendo, a hipótese ao problema foi que, numa perspectiva de inclusão digital, a mediação pedagógica promovida nas oficinas de blog pelos professores e alunos, contribui para a produção de conteúdos digitais com blogs. Essa ação favorece e estimula um espaço de criação durante o processo de ensino e aprendizagem nas oficinas e na concepção de inclusão digital dos jovens, promovendo a construção de saberes em diversos espaços. No discurso teórico trazemos questões sobre blogs com Primo (2008), extensão universitária com Freire (2006), mediação pedagógica com Feuerstein (apud TÉBAR, 2011), Amorim (2008) e inclusão digital com Brandão (2010), composto por esses e outros autores. Na trajetória metodológica utilizamos um questionário, atividade inicial na oficina para percepção de mundo digital dos alunos, observação de alguns momentos da oficina e entrevista com os alunos. Na análise dos resultados,percebemos diferentes perspectivas e concepções de inclusão digital dos estudantes, com mudanças e acréscimos no decorrer da experiência vivenciada e a expressividade de identidade e autoria nos produtos digitais produzidos, como o estímulo à participação e reflexão a partir da mediação dos sujeitos participantes. Consideramos que a mediação pedagógica ocorrida trouxe possibilidades de expressão de ideias, identidades e elementos autorais nas discussões e nos produtos digitais desenvolvidos, influenciando na aprendizagem e (re)significando concepções e posturas de acordo com a escolha do sujeito.

Full textUniversities and colleges recommend great amounts of student litterature digitally, which can be represented in different formats. Either as scanned from a book (incongruent reading), where the text can not be manipulated, or as digital text (congruent reading) where the text is produced for a digital purpose and can be manipulated to its preferable appearance (font, size etc). Furthermore, digital text enables the reader to use tools such as highlighters and markers. Earlier studies indicate that usage of such tools during reading is beneficial for the student reading performance. The results from previous research about reading rate are not cohesive, and non existant for incongruent reading situations. This study aimed to investigate whether different digital presentations of text (i.e., scanned and digital text) have an influence on students’ reading rate and their perception of the reading. Two academic texts in both digital and scanned format provided the basis for this study where the disparity of the reading rate and perception, between two groups who read on one format each, where analyzed. The results of this study showed no significant difference in reading rate between the formats. However, there were substantial differences in the perception of reading, where digital text was preferred, both regarding the available tools and the appearance of the text. The results regarding perception were in alignment with previous research in this field, and confirmed that experience and student comfort with a format affects the perception of reading on that format. Results also indicated an unexpected short-term relationship between practicing a format and preferring that format. In summary, this study showed that scanned text has negative effects on the perception of the reading, and that this might be a consequence of students lacking experience with this format. Digital text is hence the preferred format for student reading situations.

Denna användaracceptans har utmanats i och med covid-19 då nya förväntningar har ställts på företagen av kunderna. Cutters är en frisörsalong som använder en ny typ av digital servicetjänst som erbjuder drop in via bokningar i mobilen. För att undersöka Cutters system applicerar denna studie Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) på Cutters system för att tillhandahålla klippning. En enkätundersökning utfördes i syfte att hitta vilka faktorer som bidrar till att människor vill klippa sig hos Cutters. Syftet var även att klargöra användaracceptans under covid-19-pandemin. Den kvantitativa enkätstudien påvisade att förväntad prestanda, förväntad användbarhet, sociala faktorer och underlättande av förhållanden alla hade en positiv påverkan på respondenternas inställning till att använda Cutters. De viktigaste faktorerna för att en person ska ha viljan att använda Cutters under covid-19 är att de sparar personen tid och pengar, att den har tekniska resurserna som krävs för att använda tjänsten och att tjänsten passar deras livsstil. Intentionerna att använda Cutters var högre efter covid-19 vilket innebär att pandemin har en påverkan på Cutters användaracceptans.

Full textSince there is a lot of construction going on in Sweden right now, the construction sector accounts for a significant part of Sweden's GDP and SMEs constitute 99.9% of Swedish companies, it is interesting to know how well these smaller companies are equipped to meet digitization. The construction sector has been lagging behind other sectors, and digital changes are expected to intensify over the next few years. Through a qualitative method, this study aims at understanding whether managers in the construction industry have the leadership behaviours required for the change that is under way and comes with digitization. In this study's discussion we show that the managers in question are ready for the change process that comes with digitization. They are knowledgeable about how to implement the potential digitization and possess the behaviors that make this possible. What they lack is instead behavior to begin this digital change and because of that, internally driven digitization is completely absent.

Nas empresas, as TI apresentam-se como ferramentas dinâmicas e potenciadoras de oportunidades e, por isso, são utilizadas como mecanismos que promovem a produtividade, eficiência, diferenciação e competitividade (Sebastian et al., 2017). Outro dos fatores que potencia a diferenciação entre empresas são os impactos ambientais. Estes continuam a pôr em causa a disponibilidade de recursos naturais para as gerações futuras. Assim, surge a necessidade dos gestores repensarem o posicionamento das empresas tendo em conta este fator (Dao, Langella & Carbo, 2011). Apesar da pertinência destes temas, a literatura é escassa no estudo das suas implicações agregadas. Desta lacuna, surge este estudo cujo objetivo é analisar as implicações da maturidade digital no desempenho de práticas sustentáveis por parte da gestão das empresas. Este estudo vem enriquecer a literatura com exemplos reais que nos demonstram implicações práticas da agregação de TI com práticas de sustentabilidade. Na indústria, pode servir de guia para os gestores que pretendem conhecer melhor as potencialidades desta sinergia. Tendo como base uma metodologia qualitativa, realizou-se a análise de dois estudos de caso de empresas em Portugal do setor do retalho, onde se procurou entender as principais implicações práticas do posicionamento e utilização de ferramentas digitais nas práticas de sustentabilidade. Os resultados mostram uma preocupação na procura de soluções eco-friendly e, confirmam a existência de sinergias positivas da utilização de TI neste processo.
The implications of digital maturity, have revolutionized all the sectors of activity (Matt, Hess & Benlian, 2015). On companies, IT presents itself as a dynamic tool that enhances opportunities and, they are used as mechanisms to increase productivity, and competitiveness (Sebastian et al., 2017). Another factor that enhances the differentiation between companies is their commitment to the planet. The impacts of corporate activity continue to have several consequences for the environment, which may jeopardize the availability of natural resources for future generations. Thus, there is a need for managers to rethink the positioning of companies in the sense of social responsibility (Dao, Langella & Carbo, 2011). Although the importance of this two themes the literature doesn't present studies about their joint. This study arises from this gap and the main objective is to analyze the implications of digital maturity in the performance of sustainable practices. This study enriches the literature with examples that show the practical implications of the aggregation of IT with sustainability practices. And it can be a guide for managers who want to better understand the potential of the synergy of these two concepts. Based on a qualitative methodology, two case studies of companies in the retail sector were analyzed, in order to understand the main practical implications of the positioning and use of digital tools in the sustainability practices. The results shows the effort of this companies to use eco-friendly solutions and confirm the existence of positive synergies in the use of IT in this process.

Full textWhen the Covid-19 pandemic came to Sweden, many employers decided that their employees would work from home. As a result, both employees and managers ended up in a digital world where both managers and employees needed to change their way of working. Mainly, however, it was the managers who needed to change their way of leading and communicating so that the employees could continue with their work and keep the organization going. The purpose of the study was to investigate the leaders' ability to lead their employees digitally. The purpose of the study was also to investigate whether the manager's way of communicating with their employees was affected and whether the manager's relationship with their employees was affected by the telework. By using qualitative data in the form of interviews of leaders in a selected organization, the results could be summarized.The study finds that all leaders have needed to change their way of working and how they lead their employees when the work has been done remotely. The leadership and partly also the leader’s role has needed to change in order to achieve good leadership in the changed situation. The leaders have needed to change their way of communicating with their employees in order to perform their leadership in a satisfactory way. The result of the study was also that the leaders can perform their strategic and operational tasks. The relationship with existing employees turns out to be basically unchanged when switching to digital work. However, leaders find it more difficult to build new relationships, both between themselves and their employees, and between the employees to create a team spirit. This was probably due to the fact that the leaders found it more difficult to communicate with their employees digitally. The difficulty in digital communication, whether in written or video form, was the perception of body language and moods. The reduced geographical distance has meant that the employees have the same distance to their leader. Finally, the study therefore also finds support in the fact that managers perceive it as the relationship with employees becoming more equal as the physical distance has decreased.

This thesis introduces digital materials by analogy with digital computation and digital communications. Traditional fabrication techniques include pick-and-place, roll-to-roll, molding, patterning and more. Current research in fabrication includes algorithmic assembly [3], programmed assembly[9], self-assembly[1,2], assembly by folding [4] as well as guided self-assembly [2]. While these research areas are studying means of fabrication, here we introduce the study of the digital materials they assemble. Moreover we present a new type of three-dimensional digital printer for use with functional digital materials. Most importantly, the digital materials are shown to be tuneable; the code describing a digital material allows one to predict and adjust the properties of the material itself. In the same 'way digital communications and computation are discrete in the code space, digital fabrication is discrete in the physical space. Just as digital communications enabled cheap long-distance communications and digital computation enabled cheap,universal and efficient computers, digital fabrication enables cheap, efficient and universal fabrication. Building digitally will reduce the complexity of the assembler and can produce a wider variety of objects for a smaller cost.
