Abstract:
Abstract Background.—The autopsy environment places stringent requirements on a digital imaging system. These requirements must be addressed if the system is to be functional, easy to use, and reliable. Design.—After clearly defining the requirements for such a system, we implemented routine digital imaging in a busy academic autopsy suite. Results.—The new technology was immediately accepted by both the resident staff and the technical staff. Although a 35-mm camera was always available for traditional photography, it was rarely used. An interesting side effect of implementing digital imaging

Abstract:
Forensic pathology plays a critical role in Zambia’s criminal justice system and public health infrastructure, yet the field faces significant challenges, including resource constraints, workforce shortages, and gaps in standardized protocols. This report identifies and prioritizes key research areas to advance forensic pathology in Zambia, leveraging current institutional frameworks, global advancements, and the potential of molecular techniques. Through an analysis of Zambia’s forensic landscape—including the roles of the National Forensic Authority (NFA), the Office of the State Forensic Pa

Abstract:
Left-to-right differences in the histopathologic patterns of transthyretin-derived amyloid (ATTR) deposition in the atria of older adults have not yet been investigated. Hence, this study evaluated heart specimens from 325 serial autopsy subjects. The amount of ATTR deposits in the seven cardiac regions, including both sides of atria and atrial appendages, was evaluated semiquantitatively. Using digital pathology, we quantitatively evaluated the immunohistochemical deposition burden of ATTR in the myocardium. We identified 20 sporadic ATTR cardiac amyloidosis cases (nine males). Abstract High-throughput digital pathology offers considerable advantages over traditional semiquantitative and manual methods of counting pathology. We used brain tissue from 5 clinical-pathologic cohort studies of aging; the Religious Orders Study, the Rush Memory and Aging Project, the Minority Aging Research Study, the African American Clinical Core, and the Latino Core to (1) develop a workflow management system for digital pathology processes, (2) optimize digital algorithms to quantify Alzheimer disease (AD) pathology, and (3) harmonize data statistically. Intentional or accidental cardiothoracic injuries caused by needles and pins are rare and commonly reported in individuals with psychiatric conditions or intravenous drug users. Although rare, these cases could result in serious injury during the performance of an autopsy and highlight the importance of post-mortem radiology. Therapeutic complications with cardiac perforation have been reported due to pericardiocentesis and acupuncture. The majority of reported cases were not fatal and some had a prolonged asymptomatic period of weeks or even years after insertion. Needles or other sharp objec
