Abstract:
An inexpensive system for monitoring and controlling relative humidity (RH) above 90% and for monitoring temperature was developed and tested in a storage research facility for horticultural crops. A general-purpose IBM-PC microcomputer connected to an analog/digital interface system allowed for 16 differential analog inputs and 12 digital outputs for monitoring temperature and RH in eight storage rooms. Relative humidity, measured at 2-min intervals by an inexpensive wet/dry bulb psychrometer in each room, was regulated by a cool-mist humidification system. The standard deviation of RH from s

Abstract Background Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, conventional management of outpatient care in IBD predominantly revolved around face-to-face clinic appointments. In the changing landscape of care provision during the pandemic, appointments were conducted almost exclusively through telephone consultation. An electronic questionnaire was developed to assess patient satisfaction and patient costs. Methods A pilot was carried out with 15 patients to identify any technical issues with e-mail delivery of the questionnaire and gauge face validity of the questionnaire content. 1400 patients regist

BackgroundCurrently, mucosal immunity research has been investigated whether the serum levels of SIgA reflects the over-activation immune system in gut associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) and if the antigenic stimuli in the mucosa are responsible for inducing and maintaining the inflammatory response in Spondyloartrhitis (SpA). Based on our previous results, variances on levels of SIgA might influence in disease activity. SIgA Reverse transcytosis (retrotranscytosis) has been demonstrated as a GALT mechanism which enhance systemic inflammation in some autoimmune pathologies such as celiac disea

Abstract Quantum computers can efficiently simulate quantum systems evolving according to local interactions, making them valuable for exploring quantum many-body dynamics, despite current hardware and algorithmic challenges. In this work, we address the digital quantum simulations of linear optical elements which are inherently bosonic quantum systems. We adopt an encoding scheme based on Gray code to map bosonic states to qubits, which is efficient in terms of qubits and gate counts. Using a beam splitter as a representative example, we demonstrate the construction of quantum algorithms to s

Introduction This article reports on the emerging findings from a study undertaken as part of an international research collaboration (Australia, Belgium, Italy, UK; DP180103922) exploring the benefits and risks of the Internet of Toys (IoToys). IoToys builds upon technological innovations such as smartphone apps that remotely control home-based objects, and wearable technologies that measure sleep patterns and exercise regimes (Holloway and Green). Mascheroni and Holloway summarise the features of IoToys as entities that users can program, with human-toy interactivity, and which have network
