The growth in digital lending may have implications for banks. In this research we estimate the impact of digital lending on bank profitability in three south Asian countries. This paper discusses ARL’s position on controlled digital lending of library materials and lays out considerations that may support research libraries in crafting their use case and preparing for a fair-use analysis. The paper also reflects a discussion of digital-lending practices, concerns, and opportunities held by the ARL Advocacy and Public Policy Committee and guests during the October 2021 Fall Association Meeting. That discussion, and subsequent conversations around an earlier version of this paper, informed ARL’s position on digital lending.

We analyse the impact of introducing a central bank-issued digital currency (CBDC) on the operational framework of monetary policy and the macroeconomy as a whole. To this end, we develop a New Keynesian model with heterogeneous banks, a frictional interbank market, a central bank with deposit and lending facilities, and household preferences for different liquid assets. The model is calibrated to replicate the main monetary and financial aggregates in the euro area.
