Abstract:
Ancient Greek poetry is an essential part of the western cultural heritage; thus, it is important that people have access to its texts and whatever relates to their understanding in a reliable and easy way. Whenever user evaluation is concerned, mock-ups are used by designers to acquire feedback from users. A mock-up is defined as a model of the final product, and may be used for demonstration, evaluation and other purposes. The authors prototyped a mock-up for focusing on the requirements of a scholarly digital edition of Archilochus. This was put under evaluation to assess its usability: it was submitted to extensive use and testing by a sample of prospective users, to better focus on the requirements from a product's perspective. Experimentation involved a group of university students, attending a Greek Philology course at Parma University. More than half of the respondents considered the mock-up a useful study support. The evaluation also pointed out that the mock-up had to be revised, so as to guarantee better cognitive simplicity of the user interface.

We present a framework for reuse of digital mock-up models. Our idea is to find reusable models in the archives by shape matching. Since the reusable models are already designed by operators in the past projects, we can easily create various types of data by using existing models. Indeed, we demonstrate this framework is efficient for surface simplification and CAE mesh generation problems.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of the digital mock-up and operator experience on the dental implant planning position. A total of 200 dental implants were planned, which were distributed into two study groups: A. dental implant planning by dental surgeons with 5–10 years of experience (n = 80); and B. dental implant planning by dental surgery students without experience (n = 120). Operators were required to plan eight dental implants in the same maxillary edentulous case uploaded in 3D implant-planning software, before and after using the digital mock-up. Deviations between the dental implant planning positions before and after using the digital mock-up were analyzed at platform, apical and angular levels, and were analyzed using a 3D implant-planning software using Student’s t test. The paired t-test revealed statistically significant differences between the deviation levels of participants with 5–10 years’ experience and no experience at the platform, apical and angular levels. Digital mock-ups allow for more accurate dental implant planning regardless of the experience of the operator. Nevertheless, they are more useful for operators without dental surgery experience.

Abstract:
EDF operates a nuclear power generation fleet made up of 56 reactors. This fleet contains 24 reactors designed as double-walled concrete containment building. The inner concrete containment vessel has no metallic liner and is a prestressed reinforced concrete building. The inner concrete containment vessel is designed to withstand a severe accident, in terms of mechanical and sealing behaviour. The tightness of the containment is tested every 10 years, by carrying out a pressurization test and by measuring the leak rate. The leak rate is required to be below a regulatory threshold to continue operation of the concrete containment building for the next ten years. Ageing of concrete due to drying, creep and shrinkage leads to increase prestress loss and then leak rate with time. For some containment buildings, the leak rate gets closer to the regulatory threshold with time, so important coating programs are planned to mitigate and limit the leak rate under the regulatory threshold. Therefore, it is very important for EDF to have a concrete containment building leak rate prediction tool. To address this issue, an important research program around a 1/3 scale concrete containment building mock-up called "VERCORS" have been launched at EDF. The mock-up is heavily instrumented, and its materials (concrete, prestressing cables) have been widely characterized and studied. An important numerical effort has also been made to implement structural computations of the mock-up and to capitalize these computations as well as their post-processing (so as to compare automatically with the monitoring data) in what can be called a digital twin of the mock-up. This digital twin is now used to predict the leakage of VERCORS mock-up before yearly pressure test, and also to optimize the repair programs on the real containments.

Abstract:
The automotive development process is advancing through the utilization of CAD/CAM/CAE. This advancement is being enhanced by proper utilization of CAD/CAM integration, Digital prototyping and Digital mock-up. Until recently, CAD has played the leading role for the digitalization of automotive development. However, recent trend shows that, the leading role is shifted from CAD to analysis simulation. Three-dimensional design, which utilizes digital mock-up, is becoming the main tool for product design. Here, the functional capability and predictive assessment by CAE is the core technology. In addition, this supporting role is helping to realize the concurrent engineering in production engineering field.

Abstract:
As a significantly complicated manufacturing process, shipbuilding requires a sophisticated product information model to achieve the seamless flow of product information. A digital mock-up system (DMU) that builds a prototype in a computer has been proposed for consistent quality control. The DMU system can simulate models and assemblies on-the-fly as well as project real-world manufacturability without the expense and time required to make a physical mock-up. However, establishing a DMU system that can facilitate the use of product information is not easy. Preparing useful product information is costly and requires skilled computer engineers. It is thus often infeasible, especially in small and medium-sized shipyards. This paper describes the development of an affordable DMU system. Newly emerged technologies such as eXtensible Markup Language (XML), Unified Modeling Language (UML), and virtual reality (VR) are utilized to set up a practical DMU system. The DMU system developed has been applied to various commercial ships to verify its functionality and practicability.

Abstract:
This paper presents a human-scale virtual environment (VE) with haptic feedback along with two experiments performed in the context of product design. The user interacts with a virtual mock-up using a large-scale bimanual string-based haptic interface called SPIDAR (Space Interface Device for Artificial Reality). An original self-calibration method is proposed. A vibro-tactile glove was developed and integrated to the SPIDAR to provide tactile cues to the operator. The purpose of the first experiment was: (1) to examine the effect of tactile feedback in a task involving reach-and-touch of different parts of a digital mock-up, and (2) to investigate the use of sensory substitution in such tasks. The second experiment aimed to investigate the effect of visual and auditory feedback in a car-light maintenance task. Results of the first experiment indicate that the users could easily and quickly access and finely touch the different parts of the digital mock-up when sensory feedback (either visual, auditory, or tactile) was present. Results of the of the second experiment show that visual and auditory feedbacks improve average placement accuracy by about 54 % and 60% respectively compared to the open loop case

Abstract:
This article discusses that a starch printer, commonly referred to as a three-dimensional printer, serves as a way to make physical models from 3D CAD files. The rapid engineering and 3D printing methods are frequently used in conjunction with a host of compatible technologies, notably a scanning technology that brings physical objects—including items produced by a 3D printer—back into the digital realm. Engineers make use of this form of scanning technology to digitize a complex item that they would have a hard time reverse engineering any other way. Others might use it to digitize 3D artwork such as sculptures to capture a long-term, digital archive of important cultural artifacts. Rapid prototyping at DaimlerChrysler takes place in the vehicle engineering operations mock-up department, among other places. The group builds physical models of parts for the engineers who designed them. Models might range from an individual part to a full-scale mock-up of the entire vehicle.

Abstract:
Since the introduction of porcelain laminate veneers in the early 1980s, the anterior esthetic rehabilitation with PLVs has been provided with a conventional restorative technique for many years. Recently, a new concept named digital workflow has been raised that will lead to the abandonment of conventional procedures during the fabrication of PLVs. Digital workflow is a new concept facilitating applications by adapting digital systems to clinical applications, including intra- and extraoral photographs, diagnostic wax-up, mock-up, intraoral camera, and use of the CAD/CAM device. The aim of this case report is to describe the clinical procedures of porcelain laminate veneers using digital workflow with a facilitating step in a single session and to evaluate the PLVs after one year of clinical service.

Abstract:
We attempt to improve user satisfaction with the effects of retrieval results and visual appearance by employing users’ own information. User feedback on digital platforms has been proven to be one type of user cognition. Through conducting a digital literature resource organization model based on user cognition, our proposal improves both the content and presentation of retrieval systems. This paper takes Powell's City of Books as an example to describe the construction process of a knowledge network. The model consists of two parts. In the unstructured data part, synopses and reviews were recorded as representatives of user cognition. To build the resource category, linguistic and semantic analyses were used to analyze the concepts and the relationships among them. In the structural data part, the metadata of every book was linked with each other by informetrics relationships. The semantic resource was constructed to assist with building the knowledge network. We conducted a mock-up to compare the new category and knowledge-recommendation system with the current retrieval system. Thirty-nine subjects examined our mock-up and highly valued the differences we made for the improvements in retrieval and appearance. Knowledge recommendation based on user cognition was tested to be positive based on user feedback. There could be more research objects for digital resource knowledge recommendations based on user cognition.

Abstract:
The development of a matrix pulse wave (PW) analyzer becamea reality thanks to the implementation of a 3-point PW sensorin 2017, when the test results of the mock-up sample were published.Later, a mobile medical device, which was given provisionalname the Pranayama Gadget, was designed and developed byour research team. It is the first mobile medical device capableof tracing undistorted PW of the radial artery. Our article presents some algorithms for processing the PWsignal, based on the authors long-term research in the field ofmeasurement and analysis of the PW signals. In particular, a bigrole in the development of this discipline is played by the newspline base of PW reference patterns that forms the basis forthe digital pulse diagnostics.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the impact of strain sensitivity on the linear model mock-up bearing (LMMB) using digital image correlation (DIC) technique. This work addresses the lack of norms, standards, reference of elastic/plastic deformation of bearings elements. Towards that, experimental set-up was designed and fabricated with a set of LMMB (AISI4140) with commercially purchased steel balls (AISI52100) to study the raceway relative approach and localized strain rate on steel ball, wherein raceway relative approach is measured using LVDT & screw gauge and results are compared with DIC results. These data are very much useful in design and development of large diameter slewing bearing for fast breeder reactor and also these results can be used to optimize the number of ball, load, and tolerance on bearing.

Abstract:
Digital design and assembly of cables is a most important and difficult problem in mechanical industry. The paper solved the problem through the CAD/CAE software. Firstly, 3-D model of electrical bundle was built in the digital mock-up. The model reflected the parameters of the bundle exactly. After the design of cables, the simulation of cable moving was developed. The flexible feature of cable was displayed in the animation. It was an exciting achievement of this article, which can be used in the virtual assembly of cables to detect design problems. Besides the maintenance process containing cable plug and pull was simulated. The ergonomics was then tested in the form of virtual maintenance.

Abstract:
Introduction: Esthetics dental treatments involving ceramic laminate veneers can obtain optimal results through detailed considerations with respect to teeth preparations, gingival margins and esthetic factors. Objectives: This case report aims to present a conservative management for ceramic conservative preparation associated with the digital workflow for ceramic laminates, with 18-month follow-up. Case Report: Patient complaining of a child smile due to diastemas in the anterior region. The planning and design of the smile was carried out using a software (Keynote, Ceramill Mind). After molding and printing a 3D model, a mock-up was performed, which was used as a surgical guide for the performance of gingivoplasty. The conservative dental preparation was then performed, with cervical enamel preservation. The ceramic laminates were made after molding and scanning the model, using the CAD/CAM system and cemented on the dental surface. It was observed that there was an increase in gingival quality and thickness, achieving esthetics, color and marginal stability, after 18 months of follow-up. Conclusion: The conservative preparation technique associated with the digital workflow allowed the manufacture of thin ceramic laminate veneer, promoting stability of esthetics and periodontal health after 18 months.
