Abstract:
With the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, data monitoring and collecting in the manufacturing process become essential. Pointer meter reading recognition (PMRR) is a key element in data monitoring throughout the manufacturing process. However, existing PMRR methods have low accuracy and insufficient robustness due to issues such as blur, uneven illumination, tilt, and complex backgrounds in meter images. To address these challenges, we propose an end-to-end PMRR method based on a decoupled circle head detection algorithm (YOLOX-DC) and a Unet-like pure Transformer segmentation network (PM-SwinUnet). First, according to the characteristics of the pointer dial, the YOLOX-DC detection algorithm is designed based on the exceeding you only look once detector (YOLOX). The decoupled circle head of YOLOX-DC detects the pointer meter dial more accurately than the commonly used rectangular detection head. Second, the window multi-head attention of the PM-SwinUnet network enhances the feature extraction ability of pointer meter images and solves problems of missed scale detection and incomplete pointer segmentation. Additionally, the scale and pointer fitting module is introduced into the PM-SwinUnet to locate the accurate position of the scale and pointer. Finally, through the angle relationship between the pointer and the first two main scale lines, the pointer meter reading is accurately calculated by the improved angle method. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed end-to-end method across three-pointer meter datasets. Furthermore, it provides a rapid and robust approach to the digital transformation of manufacturing systems.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Topographic parameters of high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) with meter to sub-meter spatial resolution, such as slope, curvature, openness, and wetness index, show the spatial properties and surface characterizations of terrains. The multi-parameter relief map, including two-parameter (2P) or three-parameter (3P) information, can visualize the topographic slope and terrain concavities and convexities in the hue, saturation, and value (HSV) color system. Various combinations of the topographic parameters can be used in the relief map, for instance, using wetness index for upstream representation. In particular, 3P relief maps are integrated from three critical topographic parameters including wetness or aspect, slope, and openness data. This study offers an effective way to explore the combination of topographic parameters in visualizing terrain features using multi-parameter relief maps in badlands and in showing the effects of smoothing and parameter selection. The multi-parameter relief images of high-resolution DEMs clearly show micro-topographic features, e.g., popcorn-like morphology and rill.

Abstract:
The study was conducted at Kegati Aquaculture Center (KMFRI) for 12 weeks to evaluate the effect of water quality parameters on the growth and survival rates of Oreochromis jipe and Oreochromis niloticus. The fingerlings (n = 270), were stocked in triplicates in 9m2 raised ponds arranged in double series and fed on a 30% CP ration twice a day at 10% total bodyweight. Water quality parameters were measured daily using the YSI multi-parameter meter. Fish total length and bodyweight was determined biweekly using a measuring board and a digital weighing balance, respectively, and survivals were determined from the initial and final counts of fingerlings. Data were analyzed with an unpaired sample t-test using R-software and statistical significance was considered at p < 0.05. Temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS), and salinity showed no significant differences, whereas the pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) levels were significantly different (p < 0.05) between the O. jipe and O. niloticus. Furthermore, O. jipe attained a lower final mean weight (12.16 ± 0.34 g) compared to O. niloticus (29.79 ± 0.91 g). The study recommends a further study be conducted in a controlled culture environment to establish optimal conditions for O. jipe culture.

Abstract:
One of the most fascinating developments in the field of multirate signal processing has been the establishment of its link to the discrete wavelet transform. Indeed, it is precisely this link that has been responsible for the rapid application of wavelets in fields such as image compression. The objective of this chapter is to provide an overview of the wavelet transform and develop its link to multirate filtering. The birth of the field of wavelet transforms is now attributed to the seminal paper by Grossman and Morlet (1984) detailing the continuous wavelet transform or CWT. The CWT of a square integrable function is obtained by integrating it over regions defined by translations and dilations of a windowing function called the mother wavelet. The idea of representing functions or signals in terms of dilations can be found even in engineering articles dating back by several years, for example, Helstrom (1966). However, Grossman and Morlet’s formulation was more complete and was motivated by potential application to modeling seismic data. The next step of significance was the discovery of orthogonal wavelet basis functions and their role in defining multi-resolution representations (Daubechies 1988; Meyer 1992). Daubechies also provided a method for constructing compactly supported wavelets. Mallat (1989) established the fact that coefficients of orthogonal wavelet expansions can be obtained through multirate filtering which paved the way for widespread investigation of using wavelet transforms in signal and image processing applications. The objective of the chapter is to provide an overview of the relationship between multirate filtering and wavelet transformation. We begin with a brief account of the CWT, then go through the discrete wavelet transformation (DWT) followed by derivation of the relationship between the DWT and multirate filtering. The chapter concludes with an account of selected applications in digital image processing.

Abstract:
Until recently, finding a convenient solution for oscilloscope bandwidth calibrations above 6GHz using levelled sinewaves was problematic, currently the highest frequency provided by oscilloscope calibrators. Imputing equivalent bandwidth from a fast edge rise time measurement is possible (to around 15GHz with the fastest calibrator 25ps risetime edge), but may be impractical or inappropriate. Alternatively, users often resort to the added complexity of a high frequency signal generator, power splitter and power meter. A new RF calibrator greatly speeds up and simplifies oscilloscope bandwidth testing up to 27GHz. This paper overviews oscilloscope calibration, including levelled sine and fast pulse bandwidth testing methods, and describes how such an RF calibrator may be used alongside dedicated oscilloscope calibrators or other multi-product calibrators with oscilloscope calibration options. Considerations for placing trigger signal pick-off devices inside the RF calibrator's automated digital levelling loop and also evaluating and combining mismatch errors are discussed.

Abstract:
In order to develop analytical tools for the analyses of multi dimensional two-phase flow in channels with obstacles, the modified drift flux model has been applied. Numerical simulations of multi dimensional gas-liquid two-phase flow in a channel, with some kinds of obstacles inserted to simulate a simple sub-channel in the fuel bundle, were carried out. Analytical results were compared with experiments, to show the validity of the modified drift flux model. Experiments were carried out with using an apparatus of 2-D/3-D rectangular box with a perforated plate or a horizontal plate with slit hole or a vertical rod inserted. Nitrogen gas-water adiabatic two phase flow was circulated in the box. The apparatus was made of acrylic resin plates and be able to make the flow inside visualized. Two-phase flow pattern were recorded with a high-speed video camera and the mass flow rate of nitrogen gas was measured with a digital gas-mass flow meter. Comparisons between the experimental results and the numerical ones showed good agreements, thus it was verified the model would be applied for predicting flows in more complex geometry with obstacles.

Abstract:
Abstract A new in vitro technique for measuring three-dimensional six-degree-of-freedom motion was developed. The system consists of twenty-four nylon lines activating digital rotary encoders which are mounted on six panels of a rigid frame that surround the testing space. The system is capable of tracking motion of up to four independent bodies in a space of approximately 0.5 × 0.5 × 0.5 meter. By knowing the coordinates of three non-collinear points on the frame and the straight line distances from these points to any point on the moving body, the spatial location of that point can be determined based on simple geometry. The location and orientation of a rigid body can be further calculated from the spatial coordinates of three non-collinear points on the rigid body or its extension. The system has an accuracy of 1% in the vertical direction and 0.7% in the horizontal plane. The system can be used in biomechanical analysis of multi-segment spinal motion and motion of other joints.
