Since the 1980s, the digital revolution has been both a negative and positive force. Within a few weeks of the Covid-19 outbreak, lockdown accelerated the adoption of digital solutions at an unprecedented pace, creating unforeseen opportunities for scaling up alternative approaches to social and economic life. But it also brought digital risks and threats that placed new demands on policymakers. This article assembles evidence from different areas of social science expertise about the impacts of Covid-19 in digitised societies and policy responses. The authors show how the pandemic supported changes in data collection techniques and dissemination practices for official statistics, and how seemingly insuperable obstacles to the implementation of e-health treatments were largely overcome. They demonstrate how the ethics of artificial intelligence became a primary concern for government legislation at national and international levels, and how the features enabling smart cities to act as drivers of productivity did not necessarily give them an advantage during the pandemic. At the micro-level, families are shown to have become ‘digital by default’, as children were exposed to online risks and opportunities. Globally, the spread of the pandemic provided a fertile ground for cybercrime, while digital disinformation and influencing risked becoming normalised and domesticated.

Denna studie behandlar digital transformation inom försäkringsbranschen som befinner sig i en förändringsfas. Detta innebär att analoga processer som tidigare haft ett stort mänskligt inflytande kommer att helt eller delvis automatiseras. Företag som ligger bakom digital innovation inom försäkringsbranschen och använder sig av digital teknik har fått benämningen “InsurTech´s”. Dessa företag bildar en länk mellan teknik och traditionella försäkringsbolag. Studiens syfte är utreda och analysera försäkringsbranschen med fokus på innebörden för digitalisering av kärnprocesserna. Detta har gjorts genom en bakgrundsinformerande litteraturstudie tillsammans med kvalitativa intervjuer av utvalda personer som innehar olika positioner inom branschen. Studien visar vilka effekter den digitala transformation har på personalbehov, processer, kundupplevelser och kostnader. Samtidigt har interna strukturer och typen av ledarskap en potentiell påverkan på digitaliseringens resultat. Studiens omfattning begränsar sig till den svenska marknaden och digitaliseringen inom svenska försäkringsbolag. Detta genom att beskriva skaderegleringsprocessens utformning från ett analogt till ett digitalt perspektiv vilket har förändrat kundens uppfattning om försäkringar och försäkringsbolag.
This paper examines digital transformation within the insurance industry which are in a period of change. this means that analogous processes that previously have had a large human influence will be wholly or partly automated. Companies working with developing new digital innovations within the insurance industry and using digital tools are referred as “InsurTech´s”. These companies form a link between technology and traditional insurance companies. The aim of the study is to investigate and analyze the insurance industry with a focus on the significance of digitization of the core processes. This has been done through a background-informing literature study together with qualitative interviews of selected persons who hold different positions in the industry.The study shows what effects the digital transformation has on staffing, processes, customer experiences and costs. At the same time, internal structures and the type of leadership have a potential impact on the results of digitization. The scope of the study is limited to the Swedish market and the digitization within Swedish insurance companies. This is by describing the design of the claims settlement process from an analogue to a digital perspective, which has changed the customer's perception of insurance and insurance companies.

Abstract:
Semantic change is a phenomenon that has been subject to a lot of research during the past few decades. However, a large part of the existing research has been conducted with the goal of finding causes of change or creating typologies in order to classify different types of changes. The present study has been conducted with the aim to examine how a specific extra-linguistic factor has affected a select few words. The extra-linguistic factor that is the focal point of this study is the rapid technological change during what is known as the digital revolution. This essay explores how the digital revolution has affected the uses of four words: bug, web, mouse,and cloud. The first part of this study was a collocational analysis of these four words. The results of the collocational analysis indicated that changes occurred during certain time periods. A closer context analysis was performed for each of the words on the time period during which a semantic change was suspected to occur. The findings of this essay are that all the examined words have gotten new technological meanings during the past 70 years, thus exhibiting semantic widening. All four words are currently polysemous words. Replacive change, meaning a change in the primary meaning of a word, is only apparent in web. The remaining words keep their primary senses throughout the examined period, and the new senses are added as periphery senses. The trends in the usage of these words indicate that it is possible that more of them will undergo replacive change, however, it is too early to tell.

Abstract:
This thesis explores regulatory mechanisms of managing the phenomenon of file sharing in the online environment without impeding key aspects of digital innovation, utilising a modified version of Lessig’s modalities of regulation to demonstrate significant asymmetries in various regulatory approaches. After laying the foundational legal context, the boundaries of future reform are identified as being limited by extra-jurisdictional considerations, and the regulatory direction of legal strategies to which these are related are linked with reliance on design-based regulation. The analysis of the plasticity of this regulatory form reveals fundamental vulnerabilities to the synthesis of hierarchical and architectural constraint, that illustrate the challenges faced by the regulator to date by countervailing forces. Examination of market-based influences suggests that the theoretical justification for the legal regulatory approach is not consistent with academic or policy research analysis, but the extant effect could impede openness and generational waves of innovation. A two-pronged investigation of entertainment industry-based market models indicates that the impact of file sharing could be mitigated through adaptation of the traditional model, or that informational decommodification could be harnessed through a suggested alternative model that embraces the flow of free copies. The latter model demonstrates how the interrelationships between extant network effects and sub-model externalities can be stimulated to maximise capture of revenue without recourse to disruption. The challenges of regulating community-based norms are further highlighted where the analysis submits that the prevalence of countervailing forces or push-back from the regulated act as an anti-constraint to hierarchical and design-based regulation, due to an asymmetry between legal, architectural and traditional market-based approaches, and effective control of the file sharing community. This thesis argues that file sharing can be regulated most efficaciously by addressing this asymmetry through alternative market-based strategies. This can be influenced through extending hierarchical regulation to offer alternative legal and norm-based models that complement, rather than disrupt, the community-based norms of file sharing.

Por isso, essa dissertação tem como objetivo avaliar as vantagens técnicas e comerciais que podem incentivar a transformação no seu uso pela indústria de joias, inclusive apontando exemplos de iniciativas internacionais e nacionais, estas últimas centradas no Estado do Rio de Janeiro, assinalando assim as razões de seus sucessos e falhas. Através de uma pesquisa bibliográfica se busca determinar as bases históricas e especificações técnicas dos principais processos de produção tradicionais (técnicas manuais tais como o repuxo, a cinzelagem, a modelagem e fundição por cera perdida, entre outras) e digitais (impressão 3D, escaneamento 3D e modelagem digital), para, nesse contexto, seguir-se à experimentação com as tecnologias mais novas, como forma de se buscar a comprovação da existência do potencial técnico e comercial destas tecnologias para o setor joalheiro fluminense que justifiquem essa inovação.
The digital manufacturing technologies by addition or subtraction of material holds an unexplored potential for the jewellery industry. Therefore, this dissertation aims to assess the technical and commercial advantages that can encourage the transformation of its use by the jewellery industry, pointing out examples of international and national enterprises, the latest centered in the Brazilian State of Rio de Janeiro, thus signalizing the reasons of their successes and failures. Through a literature research this work pursuits the historical foundations and the technical specifications of the traditional manual techniques (such as repoussé, chasing, lost wax casting, among others) and digital manufacturing processes (3D printing, 3D scanning and 3D modelling), for, in this context, experimenting with the newest technologies, as a way to seek evidence of its technical and commercial potential for the jewellery industry in Rio de Janeiro that justifies the innovation.

This thesis probes how recent experimental American "crisis fictions" from authors including Mark Z. Danielewski, Kathryn Davis, and Evan Dara reformulate transatlantic Romantic literary debates about technological and environmental change. Arguing that such texts extend previously theorised ties between Romanticism and postmodernism, it identifies enduring ties between late-postmodern accounts of crisis and those of Romantic predecessors. Responding to the upheavals of digital revolution and ecological risks, these texts, published between 1995 and 2012, inventively engage several linchpin constructs in transatlantic Romantic writing: chiefly, the imagined supersession of subjective and temporal boundaries; a sense that the natural and non-human world is of crucial importance; and a reliance on idioms of sublimity to suggest the unrepresentability of the aforementioned crises. Although numerous critics have traced similarities between Romantic and postmodern modes, this thesis considers those resonances as deeper questions of cultural and literary history. It proposes to more carefully historicise the Romantic intellectual heritage in late postmodernism, identifying intermediating moments that inform contemporary accounts of crisis. It unearths how late postmodern technocultural and environmentalist imaginaries were always already Romantic. Deeply informed by countercultural, mid-century American movements and ideas that themselves drew significantly from transatlantic Romanticism, contemporary figurations of upheaval, syncretically figured in mid-century publications such as the Whole Earth Catalog, are indebted to both Romantic and neo-Romantic heritages. This thesis additionally argues that the digital revolution and unprecedented environmental crisis act as pressures on postmodern literary practices from the mid-1990s onward. Digital speeding and a looming sense of ecological risk register as even earlier crises than the terrorist attacks of "9-11", requiring a recalibration of what the postmodern might mean and do. Crucially, in their preoccupation with embodied realities and environments, including natural ones, the contemporary narratives examined here diverge from the assumption that the natural world bears little importance in postmodern fields of representation. Finally, many recent literary experiments figure themselves as materially participating in the technological and medial systems they respond to; formal experimentation is, accordingly, another centre of interest. This research examines how select texts deploy formal strategies to "materially instantiate" Romantic ideas, to borrow Katherine Hayles's term. Although numerous critics have suggested that Romantic discourse permeates digital cultural imaginaries, existing scholarship devotes little attention to how formal experimentation intersects with narrative strategies.

In the decades immediately following World War II, a new constellation of technologies and industries emerged as powerful engines of global economic development. A nation's capacity to innovate on the frontiers of digital electronic technology became a crucial measure of its techno-economic development. During the formative years 1945-1970 the major industrialized nations of the world scrambled to assert a domestic design and manufacturing competence within the digital electronic paradigm. The scramblers included Canada. Through a series of six case studies, this thesis presents the first fine-grained view of Canada's efforts to jump on the nascent, global, digital electronic wave. At the heart of the narrative is the historical process that created Canada's first "community" of digital technologists. The salient features of Canada's ascent of the learning curve associated with digital technologies are the unprecedented role of military enterprise in the creation of a peacetime pool of scientific and technical skills in industry and in government defence laboratories; the smaller, sometimes erratic, but nevertheless important role of civilian public enterprise in nurturing industrial learning after the military's retreat; the surprising contribution of branch plants to fostering indigenous technical knowledge accumulation and skill acquisition at the very frontiers of technical change; and the ability of this newly created pool of expertise, in its design decisions, to refract the global, digital innovation wave through the Canadian context.

Digital divide research has recently begun to address the functional gaps between Internet-connected technologies, specifically mobile and wired devices. This study uses nationally representative survey data from the Pew Internet and American Life Project to address this area of research and explores how smartphone-dependence compared to multi-modal access impacts Internet use among key demographic groups including race, sex, age, income, and education. This study also explores how demographic characteristics and smartphone use interact to affect reliance on smartphones and perceptions of the utility of mobile devices. Results show that race, sex, age, income, and education, exhibit different rates of smartphone-dependence, and also perform different online activities with their smartphones. Minorities and younger users are more likely to be smartphone-dependent and multi-modal users suggesting that these demographic groups are adopting mobile Internet technologies faster than Whites and older individuals. Minorities also use smartphones for more news and information activities than Whites, which contradicts traditional usage gap predictions.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has provided new opportunities to tackle problems in health, education, transport and many other sectors. In the financial sector, new financial technology (FinTech) is providing new ways of tackling the problem of financial exclusion. The uptake of cell phones has enabled financial service providers (FSPs) to expand into areas where the most vulnerable have hitherto been outside the reach of the banking agency model. This has ultimately allowed previously financially excluded individuals to have access to bank accounts. Through SMACT (Social Media, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud and the Internet of Things) technologies, FSPs are able to collect new types of data such as call detail record data and mobile app data which have been leveraged globally to enable the emergence of M-Pesa in Kenya, the WeChat payments module in China and KakaoBank, South Korea’s first online-only bank. The common thread in these innovations is that these are telecommunications company-led business models that have encroached into the area of finance. Such digital disruption has happened in South Africa but little is understood about how inclusive digital financial services are in the South African context. Moreover, what are the barriers to further financial inclusion, given that South Africa has significantly high bank account uptake rates? What role can the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies have in breaking those barriers and reaching the lower-income population that has largely been mis-sold financial products that were created for the middle to upper-income population? This study sought to investigate how the diffusion of SMACT technology has contributed to financial inclusion in the South African financial services sector. The study made use of a mixed methods approach to answer this research question. Finscope data from 2012 to 2015 was used as the data source for the quantitative section and key informant interviews as the source of data for the qualitative section. The study found that roughly 80% of adults in South Africa are financially included through formal banks. Despite the near 100% uptake rates of cell phones across all income groups, proximity to an ATM or bank branch still significantly determined whether an individual accessed formal financial services. The study also found that ATM withdrawal, store withdrawal and internet banking were infrequently utilised by lower-income adults. In terms of internet banking and digital financial services in general, financial products, especially digital credit, do not appear to be well aligned with the needs of the lower-income consumer. The mismatch of financial products and the needs of lower-income consumers is further worsened by poor financial literacy levels in South Africa, especially among lower-income consumers. The study concludes that more needs to be done to increase economic inclusion, digital inclusion and financial inclusion for the lower-income population in South Africa. While consumer protection and transparency are well covered in the regulatory and legislative framework to which FSPs by and large adhere, a more inclusive and sustainable financial sector will only exist if product fit, affordability, financial literacy and convenience issues are addressed. This should happen in an enabling environment where ICT infrastructure benefits all, interoperability of digital financial services is reached and a regulatory framework more focused on financial inclusion is in place.

The thesis examines the impact of cultural values on young people's patterns of political participation. The core argument of the thesis is that electoral and party politics do not anymore accurately describe young people's participation trends which are moving away from the formal political arena towards a more extra-institutional type of participation. The thesis acknowledges the new opportunities for participation offered by the internet and the unexplored role of cultural values in the online space. Inglehart's theory of value change is used to explore the impact of postmaterialism on political participation in both offline and online realms. The thesis compares the youths of Greece and Britain. The two countries are compared due to their differences in the levels of postmaterialism, economic development and internet penetration. The thesis puts forward new and revised questionnaire items for the study of political participation and introduces an entirely new battery of questions for researching online political participation. According to the results, extra-institutional participation is a far more popular type of participation than traditional political participation in both Greece and Britain and in both its offline and online forms. In bivariate analysis, postmaterialism has a positive and statistically significant relationship with offline and online extra-institutional participation in both countries, while online extra-institutional participation is significantly associated with its offline aspect. In multivariate analysis, postmaterialism is a statistically significant predictor for extra-institutional participation in the case of Greece but only in the offline environment. Results from multivariate analysis also show that postmaterialism is not a statistically significant predictor for online or offline extra-institutional participation in Britain but remains an important contributing factor. Digitalisation is one of the greatest transformations in modern times and has impacted organisations, industry structures and the society as a whole. It provides new opportunities for fashion firms to interact with different stakeholders and has altered the way firms operate in foreign markets. Based on in-depth interviews with managers of Swedish high-end fashion firms, the aim of the study was to explore what impact digitalisation has on managers’ perceived psychic distance in their international operations. In particular, how managers use digital technologies to obtain and interpret information about supply and demand conditions in foreign markets was examined. The empirical findings indicate that digital technologies are essential for firms today, as they have increased information availability, enhanced information usage and improved interactive communication. This, in turn, leads to a reduction of managers’ perceived psychic distance.

In this thesis I will demonstrate that there is a similarity between the use of physical walls and digital walls as means of ideological dissemination by power structures as well as socio-political protesters. Also, I will show that their use in this manner not only changes the way that both function ideologically, but also changes the environment that these walls are created/exist in as well. The first case study will analyze Banksy’s employment of carnivalesque graffiti as a means of protest. The second case study will analyze the use of digital public space and “walls” created within social media as tools of protest, paralleling the earlier examples pertaining to the physical walls of public space. The third case study will look at the employment of the digital “walls” of Facebook and Twitter in conjunction with the use of public space in Cairo and its role in the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

This research deals with the proposal of the incorporation of new information and communication technologies - NICTs - in higher education, is based on the improvement of teaching quality by simplifying complex tasks, reducing the distance and hence the time, thus improving work efficiency. At first glance, the contact of the actors with the NTICs in this process often reveals itself without the existence of an inclusive methodology because the action of these technologies by higher education institutions seems to result only on attempts to adapt to social demands and marketing in new contexts produced by the digital revolution, making this very misshapen inclusive process, and in turn, limiting the positive effect on the results. This paper discusses the process of incorporating technologies in higher education, seeking to evaluate the reconciliation of traditional methodologies and aspects of their current transformations, hoping to offer subsidies for understanding which are currently the challenges experienced in higher education and how the IES have sought to address them, outlining roughly the current profiles of its actors. To develop this work we chose to use the theories and methodologies of researches carried out by Manuel Castells (2013), Pierre Levy (2010), John B. Thompson (2014). These were accompanied by researches in the areas of philosophy education, especially Edgar Morin (2013) and Maurice Tardif (2011), supplemented by extensive bibliography with ancillary issues. The extensive bibliography that we used helped us to develop a critical reflection on the challenges that are present in high education, particularly in Brazil, and from that reflection, brought up proposals formulated by authors who are researching on the same line of this work, proposals which are healthy and able to respond to the main current challenges. The research's results before of the higher education challenges has been identified that the crisis experienced by the institutions have as factors: the transition between institutional and emerging models. Furthermore, technological training or specialization of education professionals have been occurring through fragmented and diffuse modules, which makes the application of computer-mediated communication decontextualized with learning object. Finally, it presents as a diagnostic to overcome these challenges, the need to define the teach model, based on education reforms that combine linear thought with complex thought, making possible the identification of the new profiles that the institution and teacher may to have in the society
Esta pesquisa trata da proposta da incorporação das novas tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação NTICs no ensino superior, tem por base a melhoria da qualidade pedagógica ao simplificar tarefas complexas, reduzir a distância e consequentemente o tempo, melhorando assim a eficiência do trabalho. A primeira vista, o contato dos atores com as NTICs nesse processo, revela-se muitas vezes sem a existência de uma metodologia inclusiva, pois a ação incorporadora dessas tecnologias pelas instituições de ensino superior parece decorrer apenas de tentativas para adaptar-se às exigências sociais e mercadológicas nos novos contextos produzidos pela revolução digital, tornando esse processo inclusivo muito disforme, e, por sua vez, limitando os efeitos positivos nos resultados. O presente trabalho pretende analisar os processos de incorporação das tecnologias no ensino superior, buscando avaliar a conciliação das metodologias tradicionais e os aspectos de suas transformações atuais, esperando oferecer subsídios para a compreensão de quais os desafios vivenciados atualmente no ensino superior e de que forma as IES têm buscado enfrentá-los, esboçando grosso modo, os perfis atuais de seus atores. Para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho optamos por utilizar como metodologia a pesquisa bibliográfica, aproveitando os estudos e pesquisas realizados por Manuel Castells (2013), Pierre Lévy (2010), John B. Thompson (2014), analisados conjuntamente com as pesquisas nas áreas da filosofia da educação, em especial Edgar Morin (2013) e Maurice Tardif (2011), complementados por ampla bibliografia com temas auxiliares. A extensa bibliografia de que fizemos uso nos auxiliou a desenvolver uma reflexão crítica sobre os desafios que hoje se apresentam ao ensino superior, particularmente no Brasil, e, a partir dessa reflexão, trazer à baila propostas formuladas por autores que estão pesquisando na mesma linha deste trabalho, propostas estas saudáveis e capazes de responder aos principais desafios vigentes. Os resultados da pesquisa diante dos desafios do ensino superior, identificaram que a crise vivenciada pelas instituições de ensino têm como fatores: a transição entre os modelos institucionais e emergentes. Além disso, a formação tecnológica ou especializações dos profissionais da educação ocorrem através de módulos fragmentados e difusos, o que torna a aplicação da comunicação mediada por computador descontextualizada com o objeto de aprendizagem. Para isto, valemo-nos da abordagem metodológica da Teoria Social do Discurso, uma vertente da Análise de Discurso Crítica, desenvolvida por Norman Fairclough, que possibilitou o mapeamento da organização dos enunciados escolhidos ao corpus desta análise.

Change within organizations is something that happens every day. Lately, more and more continuous digital changes are occurring that all need good management. If an organization implement too many digital changes without the right management during the implementation and following the implementation, it may cause more problems than what is gained. The question is, do you manage a digital change as you manage an “ordinary” change? To find out how managers are leading digital change, a study of how one of the current digital changes, the digital workplace, has been completed to see how the implementation was/is managed and how the completed change is continuously managed. The findings show that some steps in the change process differ from earlier studies and needs to be considered, mostly policies of how digital work should be implemented and completed. And the overall wellness of the workforce is the most important factor of the continuous management. This study will add to the wide area of management, mostly to the digital management and especially to them, yet not studied, the area of the digital workplace. It will serve as an addition, focused on the digital workplace, to great and accepted management studies such as the 8-step model of leading change. The study will also give some valuable tips for the continuous management of a digital workplace.

With the invention of writing, the oral tradition which had defined human culture gave way to written tradition. The latter, along with the invention of print five centuries ago, gave birth to the illustrated conception of education that governs to this day. However, the advent of digital media and the virtual world are undermining written tradition and the conception of education we have inherited. It is imperative that we develop a new paradigm and re-imagination of our idea of education. In this brief article we describe “Rizoma Filosofico”, a teaching innovation project, which intends to reflect both practically and theoretically on this crisis within a contemporary philosophy course.
La tradición oral que definía la cultura humana fue transformada con la invención de la escritura y fundó la tradición escribal que, potenciada por la invención de la imprenta hace cinco siglos, dio origen a la concepción ilustrada de la educación que sigue rigiendo en nuestros días. Pero el advenimiento de los medios digitales y el mundo virtual causa una nueva crisis que empieza a subvertir la tradición escribal y el concepto de educación del que somos herederos. Se hacen imperativos un nuevo paradigma y una reconcepción de nuestros criterios en la educación. En este breve artículo, describimos el proyecto de innovación docente “Rizoma filosófico”, con el que se pretende reflexionar de manera práctica al mismo tiempo que teórica sobre esta crisis en un curso de Filosofía Contemporánea.

Digital competence used to be a confusing concept, until recently when some researchers coined a comprehensive definition of digital competence and formulated a conceptual framework in an SME context. However, the framework was only at a conceptual level and required to be tested with the empirics of a qualitative or quantitative study. By an abductive qualitative approach, this research explored existing theories on digital competence and formulated a new digital competence framework in Swedish manufacturing SME perspective. Moreover, with cross-sectional study design, this research explored the role of digital competence in the internationalization process of six Swedish manufacturing firms, which is unprecedented in academic literature. Our findings indicate that digital competence is an evolving concept which develops gradually with technological advancements and requires a combination of three integral components: i) Digital technologies (basic and advanced level digitalization), ii) Automation of organizational processes, iii) Human resources who have the latest digital skills and are duly motivated to use these skills. This research affirms that after attaining digital competence Swedish manufacturing SMEs can sustain a competitive advantage in their international markets and it successfully facilitates in the firm’s internationalization process.
Digital kompetens brukade vara ett förvirrande koncept fram till nyligen när vissa forskare utarbetade en omfattande definition av digital kompetens och formulerade en konceptuell ram i ett små och medelstora sammanhang. Ramverket var dock endast på en konceptuell nivå och krävdes att testas med empiriken i en kvalitativ eller kvantitativ studie. Genom ett abduktivt kvalitativt tillvägagångssätt undersökte denna forskning befintliga teorier om digital kompetens och formulerade en ny digital kompetensram inom svenskt tillverkningspolitiskt perspektiv. Vidare undersökte denna undersökning rollen som digital kompetens i internationaliseringsprocessen av sex svenska tillverkningsföretag, vilket är enastående i den akademiska litteraturen. Våra resultat tyder på att digital kompetens är ett utvecklande koncept som utvecklas gradvis med tekniska framsteg och kräver en kombination av tre integrerade komponenter: i) Digital teknik (grundläggande och avancerad digitalisering), ii) Automatisering av organisationsprocesser, iii) Personal som har de senaste digitala färdigheterna och är vederbörligen motiverade att använda dessa färdigheter. Den här forskningen bekräftar att svenska tillverkare små och medelstora företag efter att ha uppnått digital kompetens kan upprätthålla en konkurrensfördel på sina internationella marknader och framgångsrikt underlättar företagets internationaliseringsprocess.

I takt med den digitala revolutionen har vidden av skivbolagens aktiviteter reducerats. Idag kan individer göra mycket på egen hand som skivbolagen traditionellt sett gjort för sina artister. Rollen som de spelar anses inte vara lika väsentlig i en artists karriär till följd av digitaliseringen.       Syftet med denna studie är att skapa förståelse för hur skivbolagens roll ser ut i en digitaliserad och tjänst-dominerad musikbransch. För att kunna besvara syftet har tre semistrukturerade intervjuer utförts, varav en består av två respondenter. Intervjuerna genomfördes med skivbolagen Universal Music, Amuse och ett independent bolag i Stockholm.      Studiens empiri visar att aktiviteterna som skivbolag utför är anpassat utefter digitala medier, samt att alla respondenter menar att även om artister i dagsläget kan göra allting själva, är det lättare att lyckas med hjälp av ett skivbolag.      Slutsatserna som nåtts är att skivbolagens roll ser ut på det viset att de är artisternas partner, som innebär att de är med dem, och inte för dem. Rollen skivbolagen har i en digitaliserad och tjänst-dominerad musikbransch innebär att de erbjuder artisterna kunskap, kontakter och kapital. Skivbolagens roll har försvagats inom de traditionella aktiviteterna marknadsföring och distribution, och anses istället finnas som stöd och komplement inom dessa aktiviteter. Skivbolagens roll har istället blivit viktigare när det gäller att upptäcka, bygga samt driva artisternas karriärer.
With the digital revolution, the scope of record labels’ activities have been reduced. Today, individuals can do a lot on their own, that record labels have traditionally done for their artists. The role they played is not considered as important in the career of an artist today, due to digitization.      The aim of this essay is to examine and create insight on how record labels’ role looks like in a digitalized and serice-dominated music industry. To do this, three interviews have been carried out, whereof one interview included two respondents. The interviews were held with the record labels Universal Music, Amuse and an independent label in Stockholm.      The results show that the activities that record labels perform are adjusted according to digital media. The results also show that all of the respondents claim that even though artists today can do everything on their own, it is easier to succeed with the help of a record label.      The conclusion is that the record labels’ role is that they are partners with their artists, which means that they are with them, and not for them. The role record labels have in a digitalized and service-dominated music industry is that they offer knowledge, connections and capital to their artists. The record labels’ role has been weakened within the traditional activities marketing and distribution. Instead, they are regarded as existing as a support and complement within these activities. The record labels’ role has therefore become more important in finding, building and operating artists’ careers.

A preuve, les itinéraires des principaux acteurs de la révolution numérique : les fondateurs de Linux, de Yahoo!, de Wikipédia, d’Amazon.com, de Google ou de Facebook. Ils ne sont pas partis d’une théorie apprise sur les bancs d’une institution scolaire. Procédant par essais et par erreurs, ils n’ont jamais séparé la pensée de l’action. Organizational efficiency is the result of a myriad of micro decisions taken as close as possible from the place and time at which contextual interference emerges. The Toyota Production System, on the management level, and the boom of the Apple Corporation, on the level of the intuitive tools for personal productivity, demonstrate this evolution where thought and action are no more segregated. Proof is the path taken by the main actors of the digital revolution : the founders of Linux, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, Amazon.com, Google or Facebook. It did not begin from a classroom theory, but by a trial and error approach that never disconnected the mind from the act.This virtuous pragmatism is also found in Bavaria, Flanders, Scotland, Euskadi, Catalonia, Lombardy, Veneto ... Indeed, these regions have an autonomy - including and particularly at the cultural level - similar to that of the German Länder or the Swiss cantons. Resumo: O uso de displays interativos introduz novas possibilidades de participação e interação entre os componentes de uma equipe no processo projetual em arquitetura, em suas diversas fases. O presente estudo se concentra em duas questões. A primeira etapa da pesquisa consistiu em uma revisão da bibliografia sobre a importância do desenho no processo de projeto. Em seguida foi realizado um levantamento das tecnologias disponíveis que permitem produzir esboços manuais diretamente em formato digital. Dentre essas tecnologias, duas foram escolhidas para o desenvolvimento da parte experimental da pesquisa: a lousa interativa e a mesa digitalizadora opaca. A etapa experimental da pesquisa teve inicio com um estudo piloto para avaliar a potencialidade e a interação dos equipamentos com os alunos. Em seguida a metodologia sofreu alterações em função dos resultados preliminares e um novo experimento foi realizado no segundo semestre de 2008, nesse experimento pode-se obter resultados que auxiliaram a descrever benefícios e deficiências do uso de displays interativos no processo de projeto. Espera-se que a pesquisa propicie a inserção de meios digitais no ensino de projeto de arquitetura e reformule a dinâmica atual do atelier de projeto convencional
Abstract: The use of interactive displays introduces new possibilities for participation and interaction between components of a team in the design process of architecture in various stages. The present study started with the identification of the difficulties in sharing information that design teams have to deal with during presential meetings. The study has focused on two issues. The first stage of the research consisted of a review of the literature about the importance of collaboration in the design process. Next, a survey of the available technologies that allow the production of manuals sketches directly in digital format was performed. Among these technologies, two were chosen for the development of an experimental research: an electronic whiteboard and an opaque tablet. The experimental stage of research began with a preliminary study to assess the capabilities of the equipment. The initial methodology was adjusted, according to the preliminary results, and a new experiment was performed in the second semester of 2008. This experiment allowed to obtain results that describe the benefits and shortcomings of the use of interactive displays during the design process. The present research is expected to contribute to the integration of digital media in design education and to help reformulating the dynamics of the architectural design studio

Tidigare forskning förutspår att redovisningsbranschen inom de kommande 25 åren kommer att stöta på turbulens till följd av den intensiva IT-utveckling som format både samhälle och organisationer. Redovisningsarbetet tros effektiviseras när redovisningen automatiseras och förändringsprocessen beräknas utvecklas i allt snabbare takt de kommande åren. För att inte bli omkörd av sina konkurrenter gäller det att ligga i framkant och kontinuerligt leta efter nya digitala lösningar samt skapa nya automatiserade arbetsprocesser.  Syftet med studien är att förstå och förklara hur automatiseringsprocessen ser ut på redovisningsbyråer idag, hur branschen och dess arbete har förändrats till följd av automatiseringen samt vilka aktuella förändringar redovisningskonsulter står inför. Studien har baserats på empiri grundat i en kvalitativ metod med data från elva semistrukturerade intervjuer på följande byråer; PwC, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Grant Thornton, Accountor samt Wint. Respondenterna består utav fem redovisningskonsulter med varierad erfarenhet samt sex personer med en mer ansvarig roll på byråerna, såsom gruppchef eller manager.  Några av de slutsatser som studien har genererat är att automatiseringen medför att redovisningskonsulter kan fokusera på mer kvalificerade uppgifter när teknik ersätter de monotona arbetsuppgifterna, vilket skapar större värde för kunden. Arbetsbelastningen på redovisningsbyråer tros därmed vara fortsatt hög. Trots de många fördelar och positiva effekter med automatisering har studien visat att utmaningar gällande exempelvis förändringsmotstånd, gammal lagstiftning samt nya konkurrenter bromsar automatiseringsprocessen. Redovisningsbranschen väntas därmed möta stora förändringar vilket denna studie kommer att belysa.
Previous research predicts that the accounting industry in the next 25 years will experience a lot of turbulence as a result of the intensive technological developments. When bookkeeping becomes automated, the work of an accounting consultant presumes to be more effective and the automation process will most likely develop even faster in the following years. In order for the accounting firms not to be overtaken and lose market shares to their rivals, the importance of being aware of, and continuously look for new automated solutions appears to be meaningful. The aim of this study is to understand and explain how the automation process looks like at accounting firms today, how the industry has changed as a result of the technological developments and what current changes the accounting consultants are facing. The study is based on empirical evidence from a qualitative method with data from eleven semi-structured interviews at the following accounting firms; PwC, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Grant Thornton, Accountor and Wint. Our respondents includes five accounting consultants with different experience and six individuals who has a more responsible role at the accounting firms, such as manager. Some of the conclusions that the study has generated is that the technological developments has resulted in the fact that the accounting consultants can put a deeper focus in qualified tasks that creates a greater value for the client, rather than perform the standardized bookkeeping. Furthermore, the workload is presumed to remain at a high level according to the argument above. Despite the many benefits and the positive effects of automation, the study has shown that there are also many challenges when it comes to resistance to transformations, old regulations and new rivals entering the market. The accounting industry is therefore expected to face some major changes which we will highlight throughout the study.

Digitalization is taking place at a high rate and is being implemented to a large extent in society, however, the construction industry is showing a digital degree of development that cannot be compared with other technically dependent industries. The construction industry generates large amounts of money and produces a long construction process that also produces high costs and has an impact on the environment. Therefore, there is a need to analyze and investigate how the digital aids that come with an increased degree of digitalization can make the construction industry more efficient. The efficiency improvements are specified in, among other things, the advent of AI and its potential in the construction industry, as well as the opportunities and challenges that the construction industry faces when implementing a digital development. The study is based on a comparison between a literature study and an interview study that covers issues that deal with the digital implementation carried out by the various organizations and companies as well as the future potential that comes with their initiatives. It has emerged that there is a general benefit in conducting digitalization at an organizational level. Whether the newly developed digital funds can be implemented is questioned, considering that there is a complex relationship between the subcontractors and the clients. The services and the way of execution offered by the subcontractors require investments to implement digital means and thus increase the degree of digitalization. The larger parties have the power and economic potential to increase the degree of digitization within the organization or company where the smaller parties must relate to this development. The uneven digitalization degree is made visible today as the power for pricing the procurement lies with the subcontractors in the regionally priced services that have not undergone further digital development. To turn more money into the construction industry, the industry needs to achieve a global competitive procurement as well as the manufacturing industry. For the smaller parties to be able to distinguish their way of working, a unique implementation of digital means is needed and thus be able to relate to the larger parties. What is needed to be able to offer digital services that will be desired in the future.
Digitaliseringen pågår i hög takt och implementeras i samhället i stor grad, dock påvisar byggbranschen en digital utvecklingsgrad som inte kan jämställas med andra tekniskt beroende branscher. Byggbranschen omsätter stora mängder pengar och producerar en lång byggprocess som likaså producerar stora kostnader och har en inverkan på miljön. Det finns därför ett behov av att analysera och utreda hur de digitala hjälpmedlen som tillkommer vid en ökad digitaliseringsgrad kan effektivisera byggbranschen. Effektiviseringen preciseras i bland annat AI:s tillkomst och dess potential inom byggbranschen samt vilka möjligheter och utmaningar som byggbranschen ställs inför vid utförandet av en digital utveckling. Studien grundas i en jämförelse mellan en litteraturstudie och en intervjustudie som omfattar frågor som behandlar den digitala implementering som de olika organisationerna och företagen har bedrivit samt den framtida potential som tillkommer med deras initiativ. Det har framkommit att det finns en allmän nytta i att bedriva en digitalisering på en organisationsnivå. Huruvida de nyligen framtagna digitala medlen kan implementeras ifrågasätts, menat att det finns en komplex relation mellan de upphandlande underentreprenörerna och beställarna. De erbjudna tjänsterna och utförandesättet som underentreprenörerna erbjuder kräver investeringar för att implementera digitala medel och därmed öka digitaliseringsgraden. De större aktörerna har makten och den ekonomiska potentialen för att öka digitaliseringsgraden inom organisationen eller företaget där de mindre aktörerna måste förhålla sig till denna utveckling. Den ojämna digitaliseringsgraden synliggörs idag då makten för prissättningen av upphandlingen ligger hos underentreprenörerna i de regionalt prissatta tjänsterna som inte undergått en vidare digital utveckling. För att omsätta mer pengar i byggbranschen behöver branschen uppnå en globalt konkurrensmässig upphandling liksom tillverkningsindustrin, vilket anses tillkomma med en mer produktbaserad upphandling. För att de mindre aktörerna ska kunna särskilja sitt arbetssätt krävs en unik implementering av digitala medel och på sätt kunna förhålla sig till de större aktörerna, vilket behövs för att kunna erbjuda digitala tjänster som kommer vara eftertraktade i framtiden.

Диссертация посвящена исследованию трансформации коммуникативной роли кинозрителя в современной культуре на примере альтернативного киноплаката. Автор анализирует процесс трансформации коммуникативной системы в результате цифровой революции, влияние цифровых технологий на художественный процесс создания киноплаката, а также историю и специфику феномена альтернативного киноплаката как особой формы участия кинозрителя в кинокоммуникационных процессах. В работе представлена разработанная концептуальная и содержательная составляющие проекта городского творческого лагеря для подростков «Киноклуб: 24х36» на базе Фотографического музея «Дом Метенкова». Эмпирической базой исследования выступили результаты проведенного социологического опроса, посвященного анализу социально-культурных практик современных кинозрителей и их отношения к киноплакату.
The dissertation is devoted to the study of the transformation of the communicative role of the moviegoer in modern culture on the example of an alternative movie poster. The author analyzes the process of transformation of the communication system as a result of the digital revolution, the impact of digital technologies on the artistic process of creating movie posters, as well as the history and specifics of the phenomenon of alternative movie posters as a special form of participation of the viewer in film communication processes. The paper presents the developed conceptual and content components of the project of the city creative camp for teenagers "Kinoklub: 24x36" on the Basis of the photographic Museum "Dom Metenkov". The empirical basis of the research is the results of a sociological survey devoted to the analysis of socio-cultural practices of modern moviegoers and their attitude to movie posters.

All’interno di questo contesto, il lavoro di tesi intende contribuire a delineare la nuova cultura del lavoro che sta emergendo da alcune pratiche innovative, presenti all’interno del nuovo ecosistema educativo e formativo. The Fourth Industrial Revolution and the technological evolution in place are originating significant changes in culture, society and economy. Rapid transformations in the world of work revealed the need of involving the main subjects in charge of driving both organizational and professional change toward an engaging and collaborative research path, able to make clear and describe different ways to face the experiences connected with the undergoing changes. Within this context, the thesis aims at contributing in outlining the new work culture emerging from some innovative practices, present in the new educational and training ecosystem. The scientific research, started in December 2019 and concluded in September 2020, is articulated in four questions: How is the context in which we live and work changing? How is the work culture undergoing transformations? Which Drivers do facilitate its understanding? Are the elements of the work culture useful also in the light of a new radical and unexpected transformation? The answers intend to provide some points for reflection and a first practical guidance for all those who are directly involved in the creation of new learning solutions, aimed at transferring value to citizens and workers of tomorrow.

Cette étude traite une question de grande importance en jetant la lumière sur la presse électronique arabe et fait la comparaison avec la presse digitale européenne et américaine, à travers la connaissance du phénomène de la presse électronique, ses caractéristiques, ses aspects négatifs et la situation des journalistes et leurs syndicats, leur engagement dans la déontologie professionnelle à travers leur travail dans la presse électronique.L'étude traite la faiblesse de la presse électronique arabe, son incapacité à faire la concurrence avec les journaux digitaux européens et américains. Elle jette la lumière sur les raisons de cette faiblesse, les aspects négatifs de la presse électronique arabe à cause de la faiblesse des réseaux de l'Internet et la faiblesse de ses utilisateurs dans le monde arabe, à cause de la domination des régimes arabes qui considèrent la presse électronique comme ennemie de sa domination sur la liberté de l'expression
This study deals with an issue of great importance in shedding light on Arabic electronic media and makes the comparison with European and American digital press, through the knowledge of the phenomenon of electronic media, its features, its negative aspects and the situation of Journalists and their unions, their commitment to professional ethics through their work in the electronic media.The study discusses the weaknesses of the Arab electronic media, its inability to compete with European and American digital newspapers.It sheds light on the reasons for these weaknesses, the negative aspects of Arab electronic media because of the weakness of the Internet networks and the few number of its users in the Arab world because of the domination of Arab regimes consider electronic media as an enemy of its rule on freedom of expression

(Synopsis to introductory statement): An introductory statement to five documentary films made by Ian Lang in Australia between 1981 and 1997 exemplifying  a 'democratising' model of sustainable and ethical documentary film production. This document critically reflects on the production process of these films to accompany their submission for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Publication at Griffith University. It finds that a contemporary tendency towards 'post-industrial' conditions allows an observational film-maker to negotiate a critical inter-dependence rather than a romantically conceived 'independence' traditional to the genre. Since the establishment of the first television station in 1962, Taiwan has had fifty years of TV history. The TV industry was a closed market, from three wireless cable stations to the high quality digital tide. Due to the rapid technological changes, a variety of appearances and industrial forms have gradually taken shape in recent years, which have given rise to numerous new services and the emergence of new industry types. The case company under the television industry ecosystem whose success, after deep involvement in the cable industry, gave it the opportunity to bid for innovative services in the case story. How a company discovers and uses available resources when innovative business opportunities arise and when faced with the uncertainty of new markets in order to obtain a crucial position in the industrial network and enhance the organization’s competitive status in the industry will determine the company’s future business direction. How can the case company carry out quick assessments in order to complete the key decision that sufficiently affects the company’s growth? This study is based on the Harvard Case and a discussion targeting core competency, industrial network, resource bricolage, ambidexterity and other issues was conducted. The discussion includes how the case company applies its core advantage of flexible responses when seeking more business opportunities, thereby equipping itself with the ability to profit and achieving flexible development.

This work project focuses on the digital transformation of the music industry. While examining the extent to which lower entry barriers and the resulting growing number of independent artists and labels are affecting the market power of major labels, this paper sheds light on which strategies can make on-demand music streaming profitable in the long run. Consequently, it was identified that while major labels do not consider their dominant position to be threatened by independents, the possibility exists that streaming providers could take over major labels to economize on royalty payments in the future.

Because of the growth of new-type intermediate traders and the increase of independent visitors, the travel agency is being divided gradually. In recent years, tourism industry is being upgraded by big data’s applications which are all the rage. Big data analysis which is different from traditional databases can predict customers’ demands and offer product experiences. By doing so, it can offer a new opportunity for conventional travel agencies. This research bases on Resource-Based Theory (RBT) and uses big data applications as intervening variables. By observing these cases and gathering the second-handed information by interviewing the managers of three different kinds of travel agencies, this research studies what kinds of core capabilities which travel agencies should possess. Besides, this research also studies the competitive relationship between traditional ravel agencies and new-type intermediate traders. By reference reviews and cases interviews, this research sorts out conventional travel agencies’ key factors of success in developing e-commerce area. The top issue for travel agencies is to know their own advantages of sources. Moreover, travel agencies should further enhance and raise their four new core capabilities which include tourism professions, social network’s asset managements, strategies of brand data and integrations between upstream and downstream sources by using their own advantages. After possessing these core capabilities, travel agencies should manage social network’s asset by analyzing brand data. Furthermore, they should also integrate corporations’ sources and improve performance systems. Ultimately, they should take online to offline(O2O) and Co-opetition strategies to build a new industry’s ecosystem. This method is the main key point of enhancing organizations’ performance and reintermediation for traditional travel agencies.

This research is based on Value Net raised by Brandenburger and Nalebuff (1996) in the book of “Co-opetition”. The two sports channels are put on the center of Value Net to achieve three purposes in this research. 1. To discuss the coopetition Modes of two sports channels since commence. 2. To debate the impacts digital revolution will bring to two sports channels. 3. Deliberate the possible “new value” under two sports channels’ coopetition Modes in digital revolution。This research adopts documentary analysis, which mainly based on media information and electronic information, including theses and dissertations, journal, newspaper and magazine. Coding all the data obtained and put each code on the proper position on Value Net to compare, then implement editing analysis to analyze two sports channels’ coopetition modes. Value chain analysis discusses the impact digital revolution brings to the two sports channels. Based on the analysis and results of data, this research concludes that since Videoland Sports Channel secured the Broadcast right of CPBL in 1997 to compete with ERA sports channel, and recently bought HD outside broadcasting truck and High-Speed cameras for broadcast, its core values are the professional producing ability and localization. On the other hand, the core value of ELTA sports channel is it’s digital technology such as Digital Convergence, HD and 3D, but it still needs to rely on other channels for broadcasting domestic games. The competition on the broadcast right is generated between these two sports channels, but the complementary cooperation may sometimes happened as all the factors including customers and commercials in Value Net will affect the result. All the games and TV programs’ coopetition modes could vary. In digital revolution, two sports channels face the issues of the dilution of channel value, quantities demanded for programs, limited growth of commercials, and complicated back office support, and all the above mentioned issues are related to the inconsistence with regulation. Wish the amendment of regulatory could create new value to two sports channels, and further in operating steady and promoting the quality of programs.

The term Fintech refers to companies that leverage the combination between finance and technology to reshape the financial services industry. Fintechs are disrupting the industry by challenging incumbents, the traditional banks, with new ways to bank, and providing exciting experiences for their customers. Technology advances, increasingly tech-savvy generations and softened regulations are triggering opportunities for Fintechs to excel. Particularly, challenger banks are setting new standards for the industry and enhancing banking experiences. Overall, the industry is becoming more competitive and customer-oriented. Moreover, new trends like Open Banking will foster the collaboration between incumbents and Fintechs. In Portugal, this is no exception and Portuguese traditional banks need to be prepared for this new digital paradigm. At the same time, challenger banks like Revolut are also conquering their ground in the Portuguese market. This Dissertation includes a Case Study about Revolut and the challenges it faces when addressing the Portuguese market, a Literature Review of subjects related to Fintechs and disruption in financial markets, and a Teaching Note offering possible paths for the analysis of the Case and its in-class use.
A expressão Fintech refere-se a empresas que combinam finanças e tecnologia para transformar o setor de serviços financeiros. As Fintechs estão a causar disrupção no setor, desafiando os incumbentes, bancos tradicionais, com novas proposições bancárias e proporcionando experiências inovadores para os consumidores. Avanços tecnológicos, gerações cada vez mais tecnológicas e regulamentações mais brandas estão a criar oportunidades para as Fintechs se destacarem no mercado. Particularmente, os challenger banks estão a estabelecer novos padrões para a indústria dando mais importância a experiências bancárias. No geral, a indústria está a tornar-se mais competitiva e orientada para o consumidor. Além disso, novas tendências, como o Open Banking, estão a fomentar a colaboração entre incumbentes e Fintechs. Em Portugal, isto não é exceção e os bancos nacionais precisam de estar preparados para este novo paradigma digital. Ao mesmo tempo, os challenger banks, como o Revolut, também estão a conquistar terreno no mercado português.
