Abstract Global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) have been widely used in navigation, positioning, and timing. China’s BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) would reach full operational capability with 24 Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), 3 Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit (GEO) and 3 Inclined Geosynchronous Satellite Orbit (IGSO) satellites by 2020 and would be an important technology for the construction of Digital Earth. This chapter overviews the system structure, signals and service performance of BDS, Global Positioning System (GPS), Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema (GLONASS) and Galileo Navigation Satellite System (Galileo) system. Using a single GNSS, positions with an error of ~ 10 m can be obtained. To enhance the positioning accuracy, various differential techniques have been developed, and GNSS augmentation systems have been established. The typical augmentation systems, e.g., the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), the global differential GPS (GDGPS) system, are introduced in detail. The applications of GNSS technology and augmentation systems for space-time geodetic datum, high-precision positioning and location-based services (LBS) are summarized, providing a reference for GNSS engineers and users.

AbstractAdvanced systems engineering (ASE) is a new paradigm for agile, efficient, evolutionary, and quality-aware development of complex cyber-physical systems using modern digital technologies and tools. ASE is essentially enabled by smart digital modeling tools for specifying, modeling, testing, simulating, and analyzing the system under development embedded in a coherent and consistent methodology. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) projects SPES2020, SPES_XT, and CrESt offer such a methodology and framework for model-based systems engineering (MBSE). The framework provides a comprehensive methodology for MBSE that is independent of tools and modeling languages. The framework also offers a comprehensive set of concrete modeling techniques and activities that build on a formal, mathematical foundation. The SPES framework is based on four principles that are of paramount importance: (1) Functional as well as non-functional requirements fully modeled and understood at system level. (2) Consistent consideration of interfaces at each system level. (3) Decomposition of systems into subsystems and their interfaces. (4) Models for a variety of cross-sectional topics (e.g., variability, safety, dynamics).

Digital computers can aid in extracting information from EEG waveforms that is not readily obtainable with visual analysis alone and may also be used for quantitation of key features of waveforms. This may be useful in accurate EEG interpretation and in making serial comparisons between EEGs performed on the same subject at different times. Digital computers may also partially automate the interpretation of EEGs, particularly in prolonged monitoring for epilepsy. This chapter reviews several quantitative analysis techniques that may be applied to digitized EEG data. The technique of magnetoencephalography (MEG) is also discussed. Many of these techniques were primarily used as research tools; but as they have become more widely available, they are having an increasing effect on EEG interpretation and diagnosis.

Even though digital systems have many advantages over traditional analogue systems, end users expect that they will not loose any functionality in the transition. Concretely, capabilities of video cassette recorders (VCR) should be ported to stand alone digital media players (e.g., DVD players) and streaming services (e.g., digital TV and VoD services). Those capabilities are usually known as interactive playout or, simply, digital VCR functionality. Typical VCR features are random access, pause/resume, reverse play, fast forward/ backward, and slow motion. Random access and pause/resume functionalities are relatively easy to implement in digital systems. On the other hand, video coding techniques and bandwidth restrictions severely complicate the implementation of the other VCR operations. Usually, VCR capabilities apply only to video streams. In interactive playout mode, audio streams are commonly discarded. Also, the quality of video streams in interactive mode may be downgraded due to system limitations.

Abstract:
Digital watermarking is a process in which a secondary pattern or signature, called a watermark, is hidden into a digital media (e.g., image and video) such that it can be detected or extracted later for different intentions. Digital watermarking has many applications including copyright protection, authentication, tamper detection, and embedding of electronic patient records in medical images. Various software implementations of digital watermarking algorithms can be built. While software implementations can address digital watermarking in off-line applications, they cannot meet the requirements of many applications. For example, in consumer electronic devices, a software solution would be very expensive. This has motivated the development of hardware implementations of digital watermarking. In this chapter, the authors present a detailed survey of existing hardware implementations of image and video watermarking algorithms. Fundamental design issues are discussed and special techniques exploited to enhance efficiency are identified. Future outlooks are also presented to address the challenges of hardware architecture design for image and video watermarking.

Abstract:
This chapter promotes the use of parametric synthesis models in digital audio watermarking. It argues that, because human auditory perception is not a linear process, the optimal hiding of binary data in digital audio signals should consider parametric transforms that are generally nonlinear. To support this argument, an audio watermarking algorithm based on aligning frequencies of spectral peaks to grid points is presented as a case study; its robustness is evaluated and benefits are discussed. Toward the end, research directions are suggested, including watermark-aided sound source segregation, cocktail watermarking, and counter-measure against arithmetic collusive attacks.

Abstract:
Fracturing in Talisa formation (thin layer, shallow, and less shaliness contrast) has met several challenges. Using conventional fracturing technique (to achieve a large conductivity, placing a large volume of proppant, high rate and high pressure), it has a risk of unexpected growing in height, breaking the upper and lower barriers, early screen out, sand flowback and end up with ineffective treatment. The more gentle fracturing treatment is introduced to this formation by using lower rate of injection, lower pressure, less aggressive proppant concentration, less damaging fluid and multiple c
