Abstract:
The In-Mold Roller is a revolutionary printing process by which objects are 3D decorated. The products decorated by In-Mold Roller are protected from water and fading. These kinds of decorations strongly increase the beauty, desirability and value of the objects. The In-Mold Roller is now using either of gravure printing and screen printing to print PET film. However, there are some problems with these two techniques. This research is to investigate the potential use of combining In-Mold Roller with digital inkjet printing in 3D decoration, e.g. in personalized printing services. The study results found show that digital inkjet printing to the PET film and then transfer to the ABS, the solid ink densities (SIDs) of primaries would increase. The tone values increases (TVIs) from highlight and middle (around 0~60%) were generally higher than those in shadows. The shapes and sizes of color gamut were also varied according to different kinds of digital UV inkjet printing processes. Moreover, after transferred, the color gamut became smaller.

Abstract:
As the infrastructure of the internet continues to expand, networked computational surveillance becomes an essential practice of territorial and biopolitical control. The feedback loop between information technologies and global structures of power creates new territorial and biopolitical regimes that sanction the mobility of people and information across Earth. These new ‘techno-territories’ lead to the emergence of new agents of power, who weave virtual and material worlds together in order to exercise control over these new spaces and the bodies that flow through them. This article discusses the emergence of ‘digital hunters’ as both subjects and objects of power through a discursive analysis of AZ: move and get shot (2011-2014) and The Virtual Watchers (2016), two artworks by Joana Moll based on research into crowdsourced surveillance systems at the US/Mexico border. Through a discussion of these projects I trace the emergence of digital hunting as a new practice of territorial control through networked images, as citizens are militarized through participatory architectures of surveillance and social media.

Abstract:
This research applies 3D mesh mold-flow analysis to analyze the SD (Secure Digital) card. It aims at temperature of the mold and plastic. The proper mold filling temperature is found by simulation analysis to improve the short shot situation, and seeks the cause of warping via various processed conditions. SD memory card clip has a big variation in thickness. Due to the bigger flow resistance the plastic is difficult to reach thinner portion, even hot plastic is also difficult to supply. The temperature of plastic goes down as a result of the cold mold cavity. Thus, the plastic does not reach certain portions before solidifying. The cooling system of injection machine was controlled by constant temperature oil cooling. This study explored the optimum injection condition by utilizing experiment to control the temperature of the plastic, the temperature of mold, the packing pressure process and so on. It is valuable to companies which utilize injection mold applications.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the legal means by which the Swedish government authorities can outsource personal data to be processed on digital clouds by private cloud providers as of May 25th, 2018. The objective of the thesis is to identify and examine to which extent legal obstacles and restrictions to such procedures occurs in the personal data protection regulation. Cloud computing is an information technology business model which could provide government au-thorities with higher administrative efficiency and lower administrative costs. The essential charac-teristics of cloud computing require that the cloud providers are entrusted with a portion of control of the IT-environment and data security, depending on the types of clouds and services provided. The thesis analyses particularly two questions. The first question is to which extent the legal require-ment to provide personal data with an appropriate level of security constrains government authori-ties to submit control of the IT-environment to private contractors. The second question targeted in the thesis is whether government authorities can disclose personal data that is subjected to official secrecy to the cloud providers.

Full text
Abstract:
The objective of this thesis was to model the Fuzz Face , a transistor-based guitar distortion effect, digitally at the circuit level, and explore how changes in the discrete analog components change the digital model. The circuit was first simulated using SPICE simulation software. Typically outputs and how they changed based on transistor gains were documented. A test circuit was then constructed in lab to determine true transistor gains. An analog Fuzz Face circuit was then constructed, and physical parameters were recorded. A digital model was then created using MATLAB. Capacitive filtering effects were found to be negligible in terms of the guitar signal and were not modeled. The transistors were modeled using the Ebers-Moll equations. A MATLAB algorithm was written to produce Fuzz Face type distortion given an input guitar signal. The algorithm used numerical techniques to solve the nonlinear equations and stored them in a look-up table. This table was used to process the input clips. The sound of the Fuzz Face was not perfectly modeled, but the equations were found to provide a reasonable approximation of the circuit. Further study is needed to determine a more complete modeling equation for the circuit.

Abstract:
Abstract In this Research paper and through my Studio practice, I search for what binds me and separates me from my children. I investigate abjection theories through Julia Kristeva and Georges Bataille and focus on a particular form I call the maternal abject. This occurs at the time an infant separates from its mother, acquires language and maps its own body. I am proposing that the mapping of the body is the point at which an individual perceives social structures and learns about prohibitions and taboos, hence the abject. I also investigate the relationship between the maternal abject and the artistic process through the writings of Kristeva. Abjection is illustrated through the works of Mona Hatoum, Fiona Hall, Hieronymus Bosch, and Paul Quinn. The maternal abject is illustrated through the works of Mary Kelly, Cindy Sherman, Frida Kahlo, Louise Bourgeois. A possible reading of the maternal abject is given through the works of Gregory Crewdson, Joel-Peter Witkin and Francis Bacon. The studio work is in two parts. The first part is a series of layered photomedia images. The layers consist of a naked female body, which has been merged with Renaissance like Madonna and Child images. Texture, such as stones and spikes, is embedded to signify the fragility and strength of the body. Children are also present and are merged with the adult female body. All images are cradled in a darkened atmosphere in order to draw the viewer inside the images. The second part is a bassinet, which has been drilled and pierced by thousands of pearl-headed steel pins. This piece signifies the dichotomy of the motherhood experience, which on the one hand is rewarding and fulfilling and on the other an abject and isolating experience of no apparent economic value. The two parts interact so that the bassinet piece with its threatening exterior acts as an aggressor towards the photomedia images.

Abstract:
The existing world is becoming more disrupted and is falling apart. For its resurrection and restoration, a new way of thinking is necessary. This new type of thinking is needed to be able to open up its mind and to think about the process of thinking itself; it must understand what is happening in other systems, where processes seem to be taking place by themselves without any other visible interference. First Chaos is the title for an intermedia installation which contains 90 black and white photographs, both digital and analogue, all of which were taken between the years 2008 and 2012. Together, the photographs create one coherent piece – a kind of sculpture. They can evoke a "still film" with a non-linear, cyclical storyline, whilst the images can simultaneously function individually, without any connection to other photographs.

The net profit of traditional printing industry has been decreasing year after year. Offset printing companies are trapped in this negative situation. As digital publishing age emerges, the unpromising future for traditional printing industry is at hand. Paper book has been replaced by electronic book, thus diminished public demand for printing industry. Facing this decreasing publishing market, what could the industry do, to increase the market? On the other hand, as environmentalism raised, printing industry will have to face the concerns of minimizing industrial waste and reducing carbon emission. The flexible printing ability and low pollution production of digital printing has made this new-rising black horse a future shining star in various trend reports. In-mold labeling is a profiting manufacturing process in in-mold decoration technology. Combining characteristics of digital printing, in-mold labeling is with a promising potential. This thesis discusses different kinds of digital printing machines by using varieties of styles and settings. In the experiments, two kinds of digital press will be discussed (HP Indigo 5500, Mimaki UJF-3042) and three passes (8 Pass, 16 Pass, and 32 Pass). After printing on PP films, the mold will be formed by in-mold labeling skill. Through the measure analysis test charts, we will also discuss the norms of ISO 12647, GATF, and Japan Color 2001, thus to analyze the production quality before and after in-mold labeling. Using samples printed by HP Indigo, we found out they show better image quality, while UV printing makes better performances in gray balance and physical characteristics, among them 8Pass setting samples outstood the rest. Two digital presses have pros and cons in color chart contrasts, while they both achieved international standards in dot gain. Colors will differ after in-molding process, therefore color difference, solid ink density, printing contrast, and gray balance will differ. Almost none of their dot gain could archive international standard during this in-molding process.

The customers require the best quality on appearance and comfort of products more and more during the 3C era, so the importance of plastic injection is increasing. The key factor of injection molding process is mold design & making. This study analyzed the mold tries history of digital camera front housing that were processed by conventional method, and applied the technology of computer-aided engineering (CAE) software and QC flow chart to improve the quality of mold making. Finally we establish the production process on plastic mold for good quality of plastic molding from drawings with CAD, mold design, mold machining, to mold assembly. And using the technique of CAE mold flow analysis predicts the defects in mold making or injection before the real mold made to achieve optimal production process on plastic mold.

Abstract:
After some 60 years of highly trained astronauts going into space, the related technologies and costs have altered to the point where increasing numbers of private citizens can become space tourists, initially suborbital for minimal times and Earth orbital for up to the order of two weeks. There has also developed a rapidly improving digital reality/immersive virtual presence technology providing space tourism experiences at minimal cost and available essentially to everyone. The safety aspects of physical space tourism need further development, but those that relate to the space environment are tolerable for a few weeks from the 60 years of manned space flight experience. As space tourism over the years expands beyond earth orbit to moon, Mars, asteroids, other planets, etc., the safety issues will need to be seriously worked. Tourism is only a portion of what will become major opportunities and expansion of commercial space beyond earth utilities into deep space, enabled by the ongoing major reductions in the costs of space access.

Abstract:
Chapter 4 opens with a discussion of the mass graves of unidentified immigrants discovered in South Texas in 2014. How, confronted with these decayed, dismembered border bodies, can literature and art move us beyond horror into a more just tomorrow? To answer, the author turns to two Chicanx science fiction novels: Morales’s The Rag Doll Plagues (1992) and Pita and Sánchez’s Lunar Braceros (2009). Morales’s novel begins in colonial Mexico with a tale of La Mona, an unidentified plague similar to AIDS, and ends in a Los Angeles of the future, now known as LAMEX, beset by a similar disease curable only by the infusion of blood from “pure” Mexicans and threatened by waves of trash, which have taken on the characteristics of an animated organism, rolling in from the Pacific. Lunar Braceros, about nuclear waste workers of the future living on the moon, presents trash as a similarly transformative threat. Both novels offer conflicted visions of the human body as simultaneously of and apart from the land, a vulnerable but powerful catalyzing agent for change. The author frames this chapter with analyses of works in Mexican Canadian digital installation artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s Relational Architecture series.

Abstract:
Vegetation inventory and mapping is a process to document the composition, distribution and abundance of vegetation types across the landscape. The National Park Service’s (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) program has determined vegetation inventory and mapping to be an important resource for parks; it is one of 12 baseline inventories of natural resources to be completed for all 270 national parks within the NPS I&M program. The Mojave Desert Network Inventory & Monitoring (MOJN I&M) began its process of vegetation inventory in 2009 for four park units as follows: Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LAKE), Mojave National Preserve (MOJA), Castle Mountains National Monument (CAMO), and Death Valley National Park (DEVA). Mapping is a multi-step and multi-year process involving skills and interactions of several parties, including NPS, with a field ecology team, a classification team, and a mapping team. This process allows for compiling existing vegetation data, collecting new data to fill in gaps, and analyzing the data to develop a classification that then informs the mapping. The final products of this process include a vegetation classification, ecological descriptions and field keys of the vegetation types, and geospatial vegetation maps based on the classification. In this report, we present the narrative and results of the sampling and classification effort. In three other associated reports (Evens et al. 2020a, 2020b, 2020c) are the ecological descriptions and field keys. The resulting products of the vegetation mapping efforts are, or will be, presented in separate reports: mapping at LAKE was completed in 2016, mapping at MOJA and CAMO will be completed in 2020, and mapping at DEVA will occur in 2021. The California Native Plant Society (CNPS) and NatureServe, the classification team, have completed the vegetation classification for these four park units, with field keys and descriptions of the vegetation types developed at the alliance level per the U.S. National Vegetation Classification (USNVC). We have compiled approximately 9,000 existing and new vegetation data records into digital databases in Microsoft Access. The resulting classification and descriptions include approximately 105 alliances and landform types, and over 240 associations. CNPS also has assisted the mapping teams during map reconnaissance visits, follow-up on interpreting vegetation patterns, and general support for the geospatial vegetation maps being produced. A variety of alliances and associations occur in the four park units. Per park, the classification represents approximately 50 alliances at LAKE, 65 at MOJA and CAMO, and 85 at DEVA. Several riparian alliances or associations that are somewhat rare (ranked globally as G3) include shrublands of Pluchea sericea, meadow associations with Distichlis spicata and Juncus cooperi, and woodland associations of Salix laevigata and Prosopis pubescens along playas, streams, and springs. Other rare to somewhat rare types (G2 to G3) include shrubland stands with Eriogonum heermannii, Buddleja utahensis, Mortonia utahensis, and Salvia funerea on rocky calcareous slopes that occur sporadically in LAKE to MOJA and DEVA. Types that are globally rare (G1) include the associations of Swallenia alexandrae on sand dunes and Hecastocleis shockleyi on rocky calcareous slopes in DEVA. Two USNVC vegetation groups hold the highest number of alliances: 1) Warm Semi-Desert Shrub & Herb Dry Wash & Colluvial Slope Group (G541) has nine alliances, and 2) Mojave Mid-Elevation Mixed Desert Scrub Group (G296) has thirteen alliances. These two groups contribute significantly to the diversity of vegetation along alluvial washes and mid-elevation transition zones.
