Abstract:
Digitale Technologien ermöglichen die softwaregestützte Sicherung, Erschließung und Bereitstellung von Interviewsammlungen und ihre sammlungsübergreifende Recherche und Analyse. Nach einem Forschungsüberblick skizziert der Artikel die an der Freien Universität zugänglichen digitalen Interviewsammlungen, insbesondere das Visual History Archive der Shoah Foundation und das Online-Archiv Zwangsarbeit 1939-1945 und ihre Nutzungsmöglichkeiten. Während Oral Historians traditionell meist wenige Interviews anhand der Transkripte analysierten, unterstützen digitale Interviewarchive nun vergleichende Untersuchungen anhand der originalen Audio- und Videoaufzeichnungen. Allerdings steht die digitale Aufbereitung von Oral History-Sammlungen vor großen Herausforderungen. Die Digital Humanities stellen dafür einige Ansätze bereit, etwa in den Bereichen Spracherkennung und Named Entity Recognition, Erschließungssoftware und Metadatenstandards, Persönlichkeitsschutz und Langzeitarchivierung, die der Artikel kurz vorstellt und diskutiert. Abschließend demonstriert ein Kurzvergleich von zwei Interviews prototypisch die Möglichkeiten einer digital unterstützten Interviewanalyse im Hinblick auf Multiperspektivität, Multimodalität und Multilingualität. Deutlich wird, dass die Digital Humanities der Oral History neue und faszinierende Forschungsperspektiven eröffnen.

Abstract:
Ziel dieses Aufsatzes ist es, ein Grundverständnis von digitalen Methoden und ihrer Anwendung zu vermitteln, insbesondere im Hinblick auf die Nutzung von Software bei dieser Art der Forschung. Dazu wird in einem ersten Schritt argumentiert, warum es bei einer Forschung mittels digitaler Methoden nicht darum geht, Webdaten im Vergleich mit der sozialen Welt jenseits des Webs zu „überprüfen“. Vielmehr geht es darum, das Web in seiner eigenen Spezifik für die Forschung nutzbar zu machen. Entsprechend setzen digitale Methoden bei „nativ“, d. h. originär digitalen Daten an und unterscheiden sich so von anderen Methoden des Computational Turn in den Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften. Dies konkretisiert sich in der Forschungspraxis der digitalen Methoden, die anhand der Nutzung des Internet Archive, der Google Websuche, von Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter und YouTube sowie plattformübergreifenden Studien veranschaulicht wird. Solche Beispiele machen deutlich, dass es bei digitalen Methoden um eine spezifische „Wiederverwendung“ von Online-Daten geht, ähnlich wie bei anderen non-responsiven Methoden.

ZusammenfassungDer i.d.a.-Dachverband hat sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, die Lesben- und Frauenbewegungsgeschichte zu bewahren. Er vernetzt rund 40 Archive, Bibliotheken und Dokumentationsstellen. Seit 2015 existiert der META-Katalog des Dachverbands, der bibliothekarische und archivalische Materialien spartenübergreifend nachweist. Darauf aufbauend ging 2018 das Digitale Deutsche Frauenarchiv (DDF) online. Der Beitrag widmet sich Herausforderungen beim Datenmanagement in META sowie bei der Rechteklärung für das DDF und zeigt, was das DDF der Wissenschaft und der allgemeinen Öffentlichkeit bietet.

Zusammenfassung Digitale Informationsdienstleistungen und elektronische Publikationsangebote sind in den letzten Jahren zum elementaren Bestandteil der wissenschaftlichen Literaturversorgung in der internationalen Bibliothekslandschaft geworden. Durch den technologischen Wandel und die daraus resultierenden Nutzeranforderungen verfolgen auch Archive und museale Einrichtungen zunehmend den Anspruch, ihre einzigartigen Sammlungsbestände und forschungsrelevantes Schrifttum im Sinne des Open Access digital zu veröffentlichen und damit einen zeit- und ortsunabhängigen Online-Zugriff auf die Materialien zu gewährleisten. Dabei spielen Nutzerorientierung, Funktionalität und Effizienz der Digitalisierungs- und Erschließungsprozesse eine ebenso tragende Rolle wie konservatorische Überlegungen zum Schutz und zur Langzeitsicherung des kulturellen Erbes. Die von der Wienbibliothek im Rathaus veranstaltete Fachkonferenz zur Digitalisierung bot zu diesem Themenspektrum facettenreiche Fachvorträge und Projektberichte aus der Anwenderperspektive verschiedener Informationseinrichtungen Österreichs, der Schweiz und Deutschlands, die im Folgenden zusammenfassend dargestellt werden.

Zusammenfassung Digitale oder digitalisierte Tonaufnahmen sind zunehmend gefragte, wichtige Quellen für die Wissenschaft und als Dokumente des kulturellen Erbes auch für eine breite Öffentlichkeit von großem Interesse. Die Online-Bereitstellung frei zugänglicher Audiodokumente als Open Cultural Heritage erweist sich für Bibliotheken und Archive in der Praxis jedoch häufig als schwierig. Der Beitrag umreißt die besonderen Herausforderungen bei der Digitalisierung und Bereitstellung von Tondokumenten und skizziert – auch anhand von Praxisbeispielen – verschiedene Wege, auf denen Sammlungen den Anforderungen von Open Science gerecht werden können.

Der Computer ersetzt in den letzten Jahrzehnten zunehmend analoge Schreibwerkzeuge und Kommunikationsmittel. Das hat auch Auswirkungen auf den Schaffensprozess von Schriftstellern, die ihre Aufzeichnungen immer häufiger als digitale Objekte hinterlassen. Für Literaturarchive stellt sich folglich die Aufgabe, zukünftig auch digitale Schriftstellernachlässe zu übernehmen und zu archivieren und hierfür eine Langzeitzeitarchivierungs-Strategie zu entwickeln. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Zeitraum vor der Übernahme eines Nachlasses durch ein Literaturarchiv und stellt die Frage, welche Maßnahmen Nachlasskuratoren in Zusammenarbeit mit Schriftstellern ergreifen können, um die Langzeitarchivierung zu ermöglichen. Nachlässe sind in diesem Zeitraum noch die persönlichen Archive von Schriftstellern. Der Eingriff von Seiten der Kuratoren in persönliche Archive wird in dieser Arbeit als präkustodiale Intervention bezeichnet. Die Arbeit erörtert zunächst die theoretischen Grundlagen dieser Fragestellung und arbeitet die Notwendigkeit der präkustodialen Intervention in Schriftstellerarchive heraus. Anhand eines Literaturberichtes zeigt sie, dass der Forschungsstand in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz im Vergleich zu den englischsprachigen Ländern defizitär ist und identifiziert Ursachen für diesen Befund. Zudem werden aus der Literatur mögliche Maßnahmen der präkustodialen Intervention entnommen und weiterentwickelt. Daraufhin überprüfen Experteninterviews in ausgewählten Literaturarchiven sowie eine Schriftsteller-Befragung diesen Befund und reichern ihn mit weiteren Daten an. Basierend auf den Ergebnissen der Literaturrecherche und des empirischen Teils wird die Einrichtung einer Cloud-basierten Arbeits- und Archivierungsumgebung für Schriftsteller als Hauptbestandteil einer Interventions-Strategie für Literaturarchive vorgeschlagen.
In recent decades, the computer has been displacing increasingly analogue writing tools and means of communication. This has an impact on the creative process of writers as well who leave their records more and more as digital objects. Therefore, special collections are being confronted with the task to acquire and archive digital papers in the future and to develop a digital preservation strategy for them. The present thesis deals with the period before the acquisition of papers and manuscripts by a special collection and brings up the question what kind of measures curators could take in cooperation with writers in order to make digital preservation possible. During this period, papers are still the personal archives of writers. The intervention in personal archives on the part of the curators is referred to as pre-custodial intervention. The work initially discusses the theoretical foundations of this question and exposes the need of pre-custodial intervention in writers archives. By means of a literature review the thesis shows that the state of research in Germany, Austria and Switzerland compared to English-speaking countries is deficient and identifies reasons for this finding. In addition, possible actions of pre-custodial intervention are taken from the literature and developed further. Thereupon, expert interviews in selected special collections as well as an online survey of writers review this findings and fill them with other data. Based on the results of the literature review and the empirical part, a cloud-based archiving and working environment for writers is proposed as the main component of an intervention strategy for special collections.

Die Digitalisierung von kulturellen Gütern und der darausfolgende Online-Zugang zu ihnen hat dazu geführt, dass Gedächtnisinstitutionen wie Museen, Bibliotheken und Archive, neue Instrumente für Nutzer bereitstellen können mit denen das kulturelle Erbe erlebbar gemacht werden kann. Diese Dissertation beschreibt Interaktionen in kulturellen Informationssystemen und verbindet diese mit Zugangsmöglichkeiten zu digitalen Materialien. Basierend auf Fallstudien und dem Ansatz, Theorien aus empirischen Daten zu gewinnen (Grounded Theory), wurde ein theoretischer Rahmen entwickelt, mit dem man Interaktionen beschreiben und analysieren kann. Dieser Bewertungsrahmen für Interaktionen bietet einen ganzheitlichen Ansatz um Interaktionen und deren Zusammenspiel mit dem Informationszugang zu bestimmen. Dieser Zusammenhang hilft Gedächtnisinstitutionen zu verstehen, wie Entscheidungen im Design ihrer Informationsarchitektur den Umgang von Nutzern mit den präsentierten digitalen Artefakten beeinflussen. Der theoretische Rahmen wurde anschließend herangezogen um 72 kulturelle Informationssysteme in einer Inhaltsanalyse eingehender zu studieren. Die Systeme wurden nach ihren Charakteristika in verschiedenen Gruppen - Museen, Bibliotheken, Archive, Aggregatoren, Kollektionen und Gemeinschaften - eingeordnet, zwischen welchen Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten aufgedeckt wurden, die es erlauben Zugang und Interaktionen in jedem einzelnen System besser zu verstehen. Weiterhin wurde der theoretische Rahmen für eine tiefergehende Bewertung eines Systems aus jeder Gruppe genutzt um Empfehlungen für ein effektives Systemdesign zu erarbeiten. Dabei wurde besonderes Augenmerk auf den Einfluss von Interaktionen auf die verschiedenen Zugangsformen gelegt, mit dem Ziel, zweckgerichtete Interaktionen in Systemen anzubieten. Die Dissertation leistet einen wichtigen Beitrag um nachhaltige Interaktionen in Informationssystemen des kulturellen Bereiches zu verstehen, zu bewerten und zu implementieren.
Through digitization of cultural heritage and online access to it, memory institutions such as museums, libraries and archives can provide new instruments for engaging users with cultural heritage. The thesis describes interactions in cultural heritage information systems and links them to access points of the digital material. Based on use cases and a grounded theory approach for data analysis, a framework for interactions was developed. This framework offers a holistic approach to understand interactions and their interplay with information access. The interrelatedness allows stakeholders in cultural heritage institutions to understand that each decision in the information design influences how users access and interact with digital material. The framework was then used in a content analysis of 72 cultural heritage systems that were clustered according to their characteristics. The outcomes reveal shortcomings and pinned down peculiarities between the groups Museums, Libraries, Archives, Aggregators, Collections and Communities. In a next step, the framework was applied as a tool for evaluation to help shape effective system design that guides the implementation of purposeful interactions. For that, one system per cultural heritage group was chosen as a use case for the evaluation. The results are recommendations for a more effective system design that acknowledges the impact of interactions on the access modes. This dissertation promotes a new perspective on interactions and derives strategies for effective system design.

Thesis deal with tuning of database Oracle, which is used by digital archive SAFE. In the concrete deal with setting parameters of database. It is divided to three parts. In first part it characterizes factors that influence performance of database. In second part it describes possibilities of tuning and setting Oracle database. In third part it is first introduced digital archive SAFE, after that it is chosen suitable testing tool for workload generation and described test scenarios and last are performed tests and compared results at different database database settings. Goal of thesis is description and trial tuning of Oracle database, which is used by digital archive SAFE. Other goal is test of files inserting into digital archive at different settings (saving to the database, on file system). These goals are achieved by testing tool workload generation and compare response time at different settings. Contribution of this thesis is above all trial of tuning Oracle database, which is used by digital archive SAFE. Document can be used like handbook for implementatory of tested implementation of digital archive SAFE.

Vor einem Jahr, am 24. September 2014 wurde das Archivportal-D feierlich auf dem Deutschen Archivtag in Magdeburg freigeschaltet. Bereits seit rund 20 Jahren sind Archive mit eigenen Webseiten und Informationen in unterschied - licher qualitativer Ausprägung im weltweiten Internet präsent. Mit diesem neuen Portal ist es erstmals möglich zu deutschen Archiven archiv- und bestände übergreifend weltweit auf einem einheitlichen Portal zu recherchieren. Archivbesuche und Forschungsreisen werden für die Besucher nun viel besser planbar. Der Präsident des Landesarchivs Baden-Württemberg ist überzeugt, dass es „mit Hilfe des Archivportals-D gelingt (…), die spezifischen Merkmale von Archivgut abzubilden. Es wird der zentrale Einstiegspunkt für Recherchen in Archiven sein“.

Abstract:

This thesis establish the requirements for a searchable, on-line archive for music in the form of audio, video and sheet music, and looks at possible ways to design such a system. The thesis describes and compare existing systems to assess possibilities for reuse. Special attention is given to issues regarding the digital representation of sheet music. From interviews and evaluation of existing systems requirements for a digital music archive are derived. Furthermore, possible architectures are described. An access management model is developed that support many different use areas. These areas include a public database of music open for public contribution and use, a web-shop function where items in the archive can be charged for, publishing of music and science reports with audio samples, and smallscale collaboration on producing collective documents. All these applications plus other should be possible using the model. Institutions, organizations or private persons may use this thesis as a design for their digital music archive.

Digital archives are not meant to be mere collections of digital artifacts organized for reference. It ought to be a record, providing evidence for dynamic digital cultural activities, because these activities form an organic and primary source of cultural information and artifacts. This paper investigates two national web archiving projects, argues for the need for greater attention to be paid to archival principles and shows how contextual elements can be retained in a collection. We will also demonstrate how some of these principles have been applied in the Asian Tsunami Web Archives via a web archival method called Web Sphere Analysis. In conclusion, we present a framework where existing and future web archives projects can incorporate Web Sphere analysis to transform their collection into a genuine Digital Archives and become a richer resource for future research.

Orphan works, or artworks for which no copyright holder is traceable, pose a growing problem for museums, archives, and other heritage institutions. As they come under more and more pressure to digitize and share their archives, they are often hampered by the uncertain rights status of items in their collections. The Greatest Films Never Seen: The Film Archive and the Copyright Smokescreen uses the prism of copyright to reconsider human agency and the politics of the archive, and asks what the practical implications are for educational institutions, the creative industries, and the general public.

With regard to increasing politicization and instrumentalization of history in Russia and the development of digital tools allowing public access to previously non-available historical documents, analysis of digital platforms exhibiting potential for engagement with the past becomes of relevance to Russian and Digital Media Studies. Therefore this chapter focuses on a Russian case study Prozhito, a digital archive of personal diaries created by a community of volunteers. Being an example of public engagement with the past, Prozhito, nevertheless, has a number of constraints that raise ethical, political and techno-methodological questions concerning archival composition and affordances of the platform for participation. Therefore the aim of this chapter is to study Prozhito’s affordances to learn more about the potentials of such platforms for the production of historical knowledge.

The enhancement process records an orientation that in recent years has found in the relevant digital tools one of the possible keys for setting up a data system and, in digital modeling, the medium for interesting developments also in relation to the use. Starting from the studies conducted in recent years on this specific topic, the research group is trying to identify the best strategies to be locally applied to enhance and make available on web different models at the various scales that describe Turin fortification's system and some portions of it.

Las entidades cuidadoras del patrimonio cultural deben estar en continua evolución. La sociedad cambia y estas instituciones han de adaptarse a las nuevas tecnologías, desarrollando proyectos digitales para romper fronteras geográficas y permitir acercar sus fondos a cualquier parte del mundo. En este sentido, Colbert y Cuadrado (2012) afirman que los medios digitales permiten conocer y difundir de forma eficaz el patrimonio. Y es a través de la digitalización como se consigue la mayor difusión a la vez que se protege el patrimonio. No todas las entidades que albergan, cuidan y estudian el patrimonio cultural, histórico o científico tienen los conocimientos o los recursos para sacar partido de la red de redes. Y es en este contexto en el que han surgido diferentes entidades internacionales cuyo objetivo es la difusión del patrimonio audiovisual, histórico o científico a través de la red. De esta forma, archivos, librerías o museos que conservan colecciones de todo tipo, como por ejemplo fotografías antiguas pueden apoyarse en estas entidades para cruzar las fronteras geográficas. Por otro lado, estas instituciones buscan que sus socios pongan en común sus técnicas, instrumentos, herramientas y así aprendan y crezcan conjuntamente. Este es el caso de Photoconsortium, una asociación sin ánimo de lucro cuyo objetivo es promocionar y ensalzar la cultura de la fotografía y el patrimonio fotográfico, y también de Europeana, una plataforma digital europea de patrimonio cultural y científico, que ofrece acceso online a 45 millones de objetos relacionados con la cultura de 3.500 librerías, archivos, colecciones audiovisuales y museos. El Archivo Fotográfico Jalón Ángel acaba de incorporarse a estas dos redes europeas. La presente investigación va a centrarse en el perfil y el trabajo de estas instituciones internacionales, así como el ejemplo del Archivo Jalón Ángel como nuevo socio y su experiencia en las redes citadas.

The URL links to a website page in the Drexel Digital Museum (DDM) fashion image archive containing a 3D interactive panorama of an evening suit by American fashion designer James Galanos with related text. This afternoon dress is from Galanos' Fall 1976 collection. It is made from pale pink silk chiffon and finished with hand stitching on the hems and edges of this dress, The dress was gifted to Drexel University as part of The James G. Galanos Archive at Drexel University in 2016. After it was imaged the gown was deemed too fragile to exhibit. By imaging it using high resolution GigaPan technology we are able to create an archival quality digital record of the dress and exhibit it virtually at life size in 3D panorama. The panorama is an HTML5 formatted version of an ultra-high resolution ObjectVR created from stitched tiles captured with GigaPan technology. It is representative the ongoing research of the DDM, an international, interdisciplinary group of researchers focused on production, conservation and dissemination of new media for exhibition of historic fashion.

The 3D Interactive Panorama provides multiple views and zoom in details of a bias cut evening gown by Jessie Franklin Turner, an American woman designer in the 1930s. The gown is constructed from pink 100% silk charmeuse with piping along the bodice edges and design lines. It has soft tucks at the neckline and small of back, a unique strap detail in the back and a self belt. The Interactive is part of the Drexel Digital Museum, an online archive of fashion images. The original gown is part of the Fox Historic Costume, Drexel University, a Gift of Mrs. Lewis H. Pearson 64-59-7.

The URL links to a website page in the Drexel Digital Museum (DDM) fashion image archive containing a 3D interactive panorama of an evening gown by French fashion designer Christian Lacroix with related text. This evening gown by Christian Lacroix is from his Fall 1990 collection. It is constructed from silk plain weave, printed with an abstract motif in the bright, deep colors of the local costumes of Lacroix's native Arles, France; and embellished with diamanté and insets of handkerchief edged silk chiffon. Ruffles of pleated silk organza in a neutral bird feather print and also finished with a handkerchief edge, accentuate the asymmetrical draping of the gown. Ruching, controlled by internal drawstrings and ties, creates volume and a slight pouf, a nod to 'le pouf' silhouette Lacroix popularized in his collection for Patou in 1986. Decorative boning on the front of the bodice reflects Lacroix's early education as a costume historian and his sartorial reinterpretation of historic corsets.
