Abstract:
PurposeThe digitalization of society places new demands on education. It is apparent since most countries have introduced curricula requirements to digitalize teaching. This study examines the organizational support teachers need to digitalize teaching. The study is being conducted in Sweden because they have experienced challenges with the introduction of new national digitalization requirements. Thus, this study explores the following research question: What organizational support do Swedish teachers describe they need to meet the curriculum requirements for digitalization?Design/methodology/approachCultural–historical activity theory and qualitative methods have been used to explore the research aim and answer the question.FindingsThe results show that teachers need organizational support to gain equal and easy access to digital tools. Moreover, digital tools in an organization must be relevantly related to the requirements. Teachers also need support to increase their knowledge as well as the knowledge of the students. Also, organizations must support teachers by distributing the work of digitalization clearly and reasonably. These results, thus, show that teachers cannot be solely responsible for meeting these curriculum requirements. They need organizational support in the process.Originality/valueThe study reveals teachers' recurring problems concerning digitalized education and their need for organizational support. Thereby, the knowledge can be used to avoid similar problems, in organizations on different society levels. This contribution is useful for organizations, politicians, school leaders, principals and teachers who are introducing 1:1 and new curriculum requirements for digitalization of education.

Abstract:
In today's era, data in digitalized form is needed for faster processing and performing of all tasks. The best way to digitalize the documents is by extracting the text from them. This work of text extraction can be performed by various text identification tasks such as scene text recognition, optical character recognition, handwriting recognition, and much more. This paper presents, reviews, and analyses recent research expansion in the area of optical character recognition and scene text recognition based on various existing models such as convolutional neural network, long short-term memory, cognitive reading for image processing, maximally stable extreme regions, stroke width transformation, and achieved remarkable results up to 90.34% of F-score with benchmark datasets such as ICDAR 2013, ICDAR 2019, IIIT5k. The researchers have done outstanding work in the text recognition field. Yet, improvement in text detection in low-quality image performance is required, as text identification should not be limited to the input quality of the image.

Abstract:
AbstractAcross industries, firms face the need to digitalize their service processes, i.e., transform the service delivery from a physical into a digital form or enhance it through digital technologies. Therefore, one important challenge can arise due to the inseparability of service processes, which describes the necessity for a customer to consume a service the moment which a service provider produces it. Since existing research has failed to examine inseparability as a predictor of service digitalization, this study aims to explore whether inseparability hinders the digitalization of service processes and whether internal support in form of innovation culture and external support from third parties can help to mitigate the influence of inseparability. Data from an online survey of 204 German service employees and managers confirm our hypotheses. These results demonstrate to practitioners that although it may be more difficult to digitalize service processes due to their inseparability, firms may rely on internal and external support for innovation to overcome this challenge.

Abstract:
Digital solutions are increasingly infiltrating all segments of agriculture. To achieve profitability growth, agribusiness is extremely important to maximize the use of innovative technologies. Today is the time when intelligent digital solutions should help the agricultural industry cope with the problems of increasing productivity and sustainable development. In the article, the author considers the peculiarities of the functioning of the agro-industrial complex in the digital economy, within the framework of the article the Largest participants in the agro-industrial complex market, who combined efforts to digitalize agriculture, were considered. It was established that agro-industrial enterprises are mainly digitalized at their own expense, which is a consequence of the “lack” of support tools, and the result is an insufficient level of implementation of technologies and platform solutions in the agro-industrial complex as a whole. The factors that restrain the digitalization of the agro-industrial complex today are financing, infrastructure, and personnel. At the same time, there are a lot of federal support measures, it is necessary to analyze them again, first of all, at the regional level, and understand why they are not so actively used by entrepreneurs, SMEs, and, if necessary, form proposals for adjustment together with the business and expert community.

Abstract:
Abstract Digital transformation requires a digital mindset and new approaches to dealing with both decision risk and decision speed. Well-entrenched companies seem to hold all the assets needed to adapt and keep succeeding, but sometimes they don’t seem to adequately react to a disruptive threat; instead, they show symptoms of innovation blindness. They might overestimate their digital skills or their learning occurs too slowly and resources are being wasted. Deep expertise that used to be an asset turns into a liability because companies are stuck in old mental models. A few things can be done proactively to avoid major pitfalls in the digitalization of a business. Facts that are taken for granted need to be challenged and checked against reality to identify strategic failure in time. Whenever somebody assumes that something is “surely” true, a company’s alarm bells should go off. Moreover, top management needs to check if their digital projects not only scratch the surface but that they grasp the essence of what makes them successful: creating new added value, dramatically increasing speed and ease of use, reducing complexity, and lowering costs substantially. Also, a new approach to innovation, such as design thinking, encourages rapid prototyping and a fast-failure culture.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to analyze how small and medium enterprises (SMEs) cope with environmental changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic by pursuing the business model transformation with the support of digital technologies. To achieve the objective, this study used a multiple case study design with qualitative analysis to examine the data obtained from interviews, observation, and field visits. Seven manufacturing SMEs from Indonesia were selected using a theoretical sampling technique, with the purpose of achieving some degree of variation to allow us to undertake replication logic. Our analysis demonstrates that SMEs adopt a different degree of digital transformations, which can be summarized into three paths, depending on the firms’ contextual factors. First, SMEs with a high level of digital maturity who respond to the challenges by accelerating the transition toward digitalized firms; second, SMEs experiencing liquidity issues but a low level of digital maturity who decide to digitalize the sales function only; and, third, the SMEs that have very limited digital literacy but are supported by a high level of social capital. This last group of firms solves the challenges by finding partners who possess excellent digital capabilities. The qualitative case study method allows us to conduct in-depth and detailed analysis, but has thin generalizability. To address this limitation, future research can use a survey covering various industries to test the proposed theory that has resulted from this study, so that the generalizability can be assured.

Abstract:
The United Nations (UN) 2030 agenda on sustainable development goals (SDGs) encourages us to implement sustainable infrastructure and services for confronting challenges such as large energy consumption, solid waste generation, depletion of water resources and emission of greenhouse gases in the construction industry. Therefore, to overcome challenges and establishing sustainable construction, there is a requirement to integrate information technology with innovative manufacturing processes and materials science. Moreover, the wide implementation of three-dimensional printing (3DP) technology in constructing monuments, artistic objects, and residential buildings has gained attention. The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud manufacturing (CM), and 3DP allows us to digitalize the construction for providing reliable and digitalized features to the users. In this review article, we discuss the opportunities and challenges of implementing the IoT, CM, and 3D printing (3DP) technologies in building constructions for achieving sustainability. The recent convergence research of cloud development and 3D printing (3DP) are being explored in the article by categorizing them into multiple sections including 3D printing resource access technology, 3D printing cloud platform (3D–PCP) service architectures, 3D printing service optimized configuration technology, 3D printing service evaluation technology, and 3D service control and monitoring technology. This paper also examines and analyzes the limitations of existing research and, moreover, the article provides key recommendations such as automation with robotics, predictive analytics in 3DP, eco-friendly 3DP, and 5G technology-based IoT-based CM for future enhancements.

Abstract:
Industry 4.0 aims to digitalize the manufacturing process to increase the productivity and the product quality of plants. A fundamental aspect of the digitalized manufacturing processes is the simulation of the manufacturing process in order to develop its virtual representation, known as digital twin, whose purposes may be monitoring, and control. Algorithms to elaborate the simulated data in order to improve the control of the manufacturing process are very important and they need to be developed. Sheet metal forming is a widely used process to manufacture parts with a high production rate and a low cost. The thinning of the stretched sheet needs to be controlled in detail, because it is strongly connected with the product quality. This work presents a simulation model and a geometric algorithm to evaluate the thickness distribution of a sheet stretched through a forming process. In order to accurately evaluate the thickness trend, a geometric algorithm was proposed which, on the basis of the position of the nodes of the internal and external surface of the sheet, was able to evaluate the thickness value. It enables finding of the minimum value of the stretched sheet thickness. The geometric algorithm was slightly modified, in a second step of the work, to experimentally evaluate the thickness trend of a sheet stretched by a forming process; it was applied to the measurement points obtained through a coordinate measurement machine on the inner and outer surfaces of the sheet. The numerical–experimental comparison of the results shows the appropriateness of the proposed algorithm for numerical data.

Full parameters technique is easy to operate, but the accuracy of surface is to large extent dependent on the accuracy of measurement; Part parameters technique can avoid these measurements, however, it has certain requirements for operator. However, its requirements are still much less than those of traditional technique.

Abstract:
Traceability not only meets the social needs of product information transparency and reinforces the trust of consumers, but also meets the needs of enterprises for brand protection and enhances the competition in markets. Since a traceability system collects every necessary information at every stage in a supply chain, it is also an efficient tool for monitoring and optimizing the production procedure. Adopting information technology to digitalize the business process is an inevitable trend to improve the efficiency in information management and especially quickly detect fraud problems. However, with the digitized process via a computer software system, the challenge remains as to whether digitized data is real. The reality shows that changing digital data is easier than paper-based data. Thus, it is necessary to have a digitalized process and a secure mechanism for ensuring transparency, correctness, and consistency of data leading to more efficiency in incidents detection and trace problems tracing. An emerging technology, Blockchain, has attracted more attention after its great success in finance due to various dominant features in preventing data changes even from the internal system. Technically, Blockchain is a ledger that records the entire transaction history publicly on a network of peer-to-peer computers of the time. One common ledger will be shared among all collaborative organizations in an ecosystem to ensure data immutability and undeniable responsibility, thereby enhancing data transparency. Therefore, applying Blockchain technology in agriculture will improve the current traceability process, aiming to increase the responsibility of the objects in the process and transparency of information for consumers. In this paper, we propose a framework that utilizes Blockchain to robustize traceability systems. Abstract:
Rapid technological changes have forced postal operators to adapt their services to the needs of the information society, exploit new business opportunities, and pay more attention to emerging and rapidly growing direct and indirect competition. The main goal of the article is to provide an answer to the question Do we have to digitalize postal services? The objectives of the article are as follows: defining of the postal ecosystem concept; defining of postal e-services; developing an action proposal approach for the operator designated to create a digital ecosystem of the postal service. Therefore, it is necessary to survey postal operators regarding the digitalization of the economy and postal e-services. The survey should focus on individual customers, businesses and telecommunications market experts. The survey covered postal e-services supplied by the designated operator in Poland. Its assessment has been based on variables which have major impact on the perception of postal e-services. These variables include: scope of e-services, regulatory framework (security), competitiveness, telecommunications infrastructure, advancement of e-services, innovation level, and digital awareness and digital skills in the society. In order to meet these objectives, the article refers to the essence of the ecosystem as a solution to the research problem. Additionally, studies on postal e-services have been presented, which enable to develop an action proposal to strengthen the position of the postal operator in the postal ecosystem. The article is based on studies that use various research methods, such as critical analysis of scientific literature, synthesis and generalization, Delphi method, versatile benchmarking and graphic visualization. Additionally, findings of studies on e-services have been presented to cover the European Union, as well as solicit opinions of individual and business clients and telecommunications market experts in Poland. This enables to develop an action proposal designed to strengthen the position of the postal operator in the postal ecosystem. The study has delivered an answer to the research question. Thus, the authors can confirm that it is necessary to digitalize postal services.

Abstract:
This study presents a novel discretization method for converting an analogue controller into its corresponding counterpart for a discrete-time system. The proposed method is appropriate for the natural response curve and, thus, is more effective for certain digitally redesigned systems. Based on the mapping region of the transformation using the proposed method from the s-domain to the z-domain, a transformation involving a modulated parameter n is used to generate a corresponding stable discrete-time controller for a stable continuous-time controller. As a suitable modulated parameter in the proposed transformation is selected to digitalize an analogue-controlled system, the new sampled-data-controlled system achieves a precise discrete-time response, and can also tolerate a large sampling period for sample-data implementation. A simulated example is used to demonstrate the results.

Abstract:
Industry 4.0 and Society 5.0 are reshaping the way organizations function and interact with the communities they serve. The massive penetration of computer and network applications forces organizations to digitalize their processes and provide innovative products, services, and business models. The education market is suffering changes as well, but universities seem slow to react. This paper proposes the application of an integrated digital transformation model to assess the maturity level that educational institutions have in their digital transformation processes and compares them to other industries. Particular considerations to address when using the model for higher-education institutions are discussed. Our results show that universities fall behind other sectors, probably due to a lack of effective leadership and changes in culture. This is complemented negatively by an insufficient degree of innovation and financial support.

3D digitalization of the human body has been studied extensively for various applications in anthropology, ergonomics, healthcare, entertainment and fashion industries. There are different methods and approaches to reconstruct the 3D body model namely using RGB cameras, depth cameras, scanning systems or anthropometric measurements of the human body. Generally, most of existing approaches have to tackle issues relating to security of personal data, the impact of the surrounding environment, cost of 3D scanning systems and complication of anthropometric measurements. This study proposes a method using simple body measurements and given body shapes to digitalize the human body. The effectiveness of proposed method is evaluated and demonstrated based on two datasets: a synthetic dataset generated from a parametric model and a real dataset on Vietnamese collected by Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Vietnam).

Abstract:
This paper presents an efficient solution, based on a wearable mobile laser system (WMLS), for the digitalization and modelling of a complex cultural heritage building. A procedural pipeline is formalized for the data acquisition, processing and generation of cartographic products over a XV century palace located in Segovia, Spain. The complexity, represented by an intricate interior space and by the presence of important structural problems, prevents the use of standard protocols such as those based on terrestrial photogrammetry or terrestrial laser scanning, making the WMLS the most suitable and powerful solution for the design of restoration actions. The results obtained corroborate with the robustness and accuracy of the digitalization strategy, allowing for the generation of 3D models and 2D cartographic products with the required level of quality and time needed to digitalize the area by a terrestrial laser scanner.

Abstract:
The European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) is a major pillar of the European energy policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, the reportedly pervasive frauds in this market are constraining the beneficial role of the EU ETS. In this conceptual paper, we propose to digitalize the EU ETS by distributed ledger technology (DLT), enabling the verification of authenticity and provenance, proof of ownership, and lifecycle traceability of carbon certificates and assets. Our platform allows verifiable credentials to validate emission allowances, real-time tracking of trading participants’ emissions, and the audit trail reporting of the decentralized trading records. Furthermore, we complement the DLT application concept with a structured interdisciplinary evaluation framework. Our framework and analysis aim to stimulate further interdisciplinary research in this area to support regulators, such as the European Commission, in designing effective digital emissions trading systems.

Many German banks could miss the connection in the age of digital transformation. According to a study, the management consultancy McKinsey even expects the return on equity to decline. And if the change that digitalization offers, is not properly implemented. According to the study, German banks are forced to digitalize processes due to low yields, as new players in the market (Fintechs) could shed up to 40 percent of their sales and up to percent of profits. The situation of how to deal with Digitalization correctly is much discussed. Organizationally, a lot was promoted under management aspects, and the industry is talking about the necessity of installing a so called Chief Digital Officer (CDO) next to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) / Head of IT. Abstract War Conflicts in the past twenty years have shown the need to digitalize the battlefield. The commander needs a lot of input data for his right decision. These data are necessary for an automated decision-making process. For the successful planning of routes of movement, whether in peace or combat conditions, it is required to know the terrain and at the same time the use of algorithms for finding the correct paths. The determination of the level of Cross-Country Movement (abbr. CCM), or also the traffic ability of the terrain, is the basis for this right decision. Analysis of the Cross-Country Movement means the assessment of several geographical and tactical, technical and human factors together, i.e. that it is multi-criterial analysis. Finding the optimal path based on specified criteria (security, distance, economic cost, time) is not a trivial matter and therefore testing road conditions in the field is carried out. These tests validate the previous calculations.

The fashion e-commerce market has been growing steadily in the past few years accounting for USD 371 billion or 21% retail sales of apparel and footwear globally in 2019. But as most of the worlds are experiencing self-isolation and lockdown measures, the corona virus crisis is pushing brands to digitalize even faster to survive, engage with customers, designers, manufactures and redesign their supply chain operations. Many sectors are reeling from the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic as they stare into the abyss of the impending recession and fashion has not been immune. But aside from economic factors, the industry is also facing lasting structural change. Artificial Intelligence optimizes conversion, Average Order Value (AOV) and repeat purchase rate by understanding a customer’s preferences and suggesting the right products and outfits for them. Recommendations are tailored to the physical stores with latest technologies by implementing virtual trail room, regional trends, as well as the customers’ body type, color, desired occasions and personal style.

Digital Transformation is under constant evolution. Organizations that were not already created in the digital environment need to digitalize their services. The process used to do so may involve not only elements of technology, but also social, political and organizational aspects. While there is no holistic method to implement digital transformation, organizations learn from successful cases in order to build their own way to implement digital transformation. This paper presents the process through which a physically delivered service provided by the Brazilian federal government was transformed into a digital service. This was performed with a prototyping approach made of six steps: diagnose the service, analyze the service, identify the requirements, and elaborate, verify, and validate the prototype. To perform the digitalization, an automation tool was used, and there was constant interaction with the service provider. This article offers a detailed process to implement digitalization by means of prototyping, which can be used by other organizations to make services digital.

Abstract Digital transformation has a strong impact on the retail industry. Activities that were once retail sector are moving to online stores, and specialized third parties are taking over physical distribution and payment. Naturally, store-based retailers are not taking this sitting down and many are reacting by starting to “digitalize” their point of sale. But in order to understand the true impact of digitalization and to react adequately, one needs to think backwards from the consumer and enter the scene at a much earlier stage. In our digital age, need occurrence, shopping and consumption are moving much closer in time and space and are being naturally integrated into our daily routine. If retailers still want their share, they have to build an ecosystem of presence and organize themselves around consumption and lived reality of their consumers. They have to be present in the mind of the consumer at the very instance a need arises. Being recalled in time matters now more than ever.

Abstract:
This paper provides an overview of the container shipping supply chain (CSSC) by taking a logistics perspective, covering all major value-adding segments in CSSC including freight logistics, container logistics, vessel logistics, port/terminal logistics, and inland transport logistics. The main planning problems and research opportunities in each logistics segment are reviewed and discussed to promote further research. Moreover, the two most important challenges in CSSC, digitalization and decarbonization, are explained and discussed in detail. We raise awareness of the extreme fragmentation of CSSC that causes inefficient operations. A pathway to digitalize container shipping is proposed that requires the applications of digital technologies in various business processes across five logistics segments, and change in behaviors and relationships of stakeholders in the supply chain. We recognize that shipping decarbonization is likely to take diverse pathways with different fuel/energy systems for ships and ports. This gives rise to more research and application opportunities in the highly uncertain and complex CSSC environment.

Depth matching of multiple logging curves is essential to any well evaluation or reservoir characterization. Depth matching can be applied to various measurements of a single well or multiple log curves from multiple wells within the same field. Because many drilling advisory projects have been launched to digitalize the well-log analysis, accurate depth matching becomes an important factor in improving well evaluation, production, and recovery. It is a challenge, though, to align the log curves from multiple wells due to the unpredictable structure of the geologic formations. We have conducted a study on the alignment of multiple gamma-ray well logs by using the state-of-the-art machine-learning techniques. Our objective is to automate the depth-matching task with minimum human intervention. We have developed a novel multitask learning approach by using a deep neural network to optimize the depth-matching strategy that correlates multiple gamma-ray logs in the same field. Our approach can be extended to other applications as well, such as automatic formation top labeling for an ongoing well given a reference well.
