Subject and Purpose. The paper is aimed at suggesting ways for implementing electromagnetic devices that would involve a nonlinear dielectric inside the structure for concentrating electromagnetic field within it at relatively low intensities of the excitation field. A representative example is offered by a Fabry-Pérot resonator with semi-transparent mirrors and a nonlinear dielectric inside. Methods and Methodology. The paper presents a fundamentally new approach to controlling the frequency response of a metasurface, and a method for protecting electronic modules from high excitation powers.

The application of jointing multiple physical field sensing with electromagnetic (EM) wave manipulation is a hot research topic recently. Refined perception and unit-level independent regulation of metasurfaces still have certain challenges. In this paper, we propose a digital programmable metasurface that can adaptively achieve various EM functions by sensing the color changes of the incident light, which enables unit-level sensing and modulation. Integrating trichromatic sensors, FPGA, and algorithm onto the metasurface has established a metasurface architecture for electromagnetic scatterin

AbstractOptical prisms are made of glass and map temporal frequencies into spatial frequencies by decomposing incident white light into its constituent colors and refract them into different directions. Conventional prisms suffer from their volumetric bulky and heavy structure and their material parameters are dictated by the Lorentz reciprocity theorem. Considering various applications of prisms in wave engineering and their growing applications in the invisible spectrum and antenna applications, there is a demand for compact apparatuses that are capable of providing prism functionality in a

<b>Objective</b> Digitally coded hypersurfaces show great potential in the field of electromagnetic wave modulation. Coded hypersurfaces are mainly used to encode different bits through the phase difference between unit structures. Currently, the coded hypersurfaces in terahertz band are mainly classified into two types: structure coded and controlled material coded. Once a structure-encoded hypersurface is fabricated, its function is fixed, which makes it difficult to adapt to changing application requirements. In contrast, the controllable material-encoded hypersurfaces can reali

Recent advances in digitally programmable metamaterials have accelerated the development of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). However, the excessive use of active components (e.g., pin diodes and varactor diodes) leads to high costs, especially for those operating at millimeter-wave frequencies, impeding their large-scale deployments in RIS. Here, we introduce an entirely different approach—moiré metasurfaces—to implement dynamic beamforming through mutual twists of two closely stacked metasurfaces. Correspondingly, there is an urgent need for electromagnetic information theory that reveals the capacity bound of communications and supports the accurate design of metasurface-based communication systems. To this end, we propose a macroscopic model and a statistical model of the digital coding metasurface. The macroscopic model uniformly
