Abstract:
Suku Bonai (suku terasing dan minoritas di Provinsi Riau) merupakan masyarakat yang dwi/multilingual. Mereka berpotensi menjadi masyarakat yang diglosik karena menguasai dan menggunakan lebih dari satu bahasa dalam komunikasi. Untuk mengetahui potensi tersebut, kajian ini difokuskan pada kediglosiaan suku Bonai. Tujuannya adalah untuk menentukan dan mendeskripsikan status kediglosiaan suku Bonai dari segi fungsi, prestise, warisan budaya, pemerolehan, standardisasi, stabilitas, leksikon, dan sistem fonologis. Kajian ini bersifat kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Data diperoleh melalui survei dengan menggunakan kuesioner dan studi kepustakaan. Sampel berjumlah 78 orang, ditarik dengan teknik acak bertujuan. Data kuantitatif diolah dengan program Excel dan SPSS sedangkan data kualitatif dengan diolah dengan analisis wacana. Dari analisis data, suku Bonai dapat dikategorikan sebagai masyarakat yang diglosik sekaligus bilingualisme. Simpulan tersebut didasari oleh aspek fungsi, prestise, pemerolehan, standardisasi, leksikon, dan sistem fonologis. Dari analisis data juga terungkap bahwa bahasa Indonesia merupakan kode H (high) sementara bahasa suku Bonai merupakan kode L (low). Walaupun demikian, situasi diglosia pada suku Bonai belum mantap dari segi stabilitas karena belum berlangsung dalam masa ratusan tahun. Di samping itu, juga terjadi ketirisan diglosia (diglossia leaked), yaitu penyusupan kode L ke ranah-ranah kode H atau sebaliknya.

Fenomena diglosia merupakan situasi penggunaan ragam bahasa yang secara bersama-sama atau bergantian dalam satu proses komunikasi. Ciri komunikasi yang termasuk ke situasi diglosia atau diglostik adalah saat ragam bahasa tinggi (T) digunakan bersamaan dengan ragam bahasa rendah (R) oleh sekelompok penutur bahasa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan fenomena diglosia yang terjadi di kalangan mahasiswa IAIN Palangka Raya dalam proses belajar-mengajar. Objek penelitian adalah tuturan mahasiswa. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode pengamatan, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data melalui teknik padan referensial dan translasional. Sedangkan penentuan maknanya menggunakan metode kontekstual. Dari hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa situasi penggunaan bahasa pada mahasiswa IAIN Palangka Raya mengalami situasi diglostik, yakni penggunaan dua variasi bahasa Indonesia, yakni bahasa Indonesia baku atau bahasa Indonesia ragam tinggi (H:) dan bahasa Indonesia tidak baku yang bercampur bahasa daerah sebagai ragam rendah (L:) dalam proses pembelajaran. Dua variasi bahasa yang memiliki masing-masing peranan ini digunakan bersamaan atau bergantian oleh mahasiswa pada saat pembelajaran di IAIN Palangka Raya.

ABSTRACTFerguson's concept of diglossia is examined with a view to dedetermining its applicability to creole continua. The characteristics of classic instances of diglossia are subdivided into sociocultural and linguistic features, and these in turn are used as a basis for determining the extent to which different types of community might be fruitfully described as diglossic. The conclusion is drawn that creole continua share far more in common with Ferguson's defining cases of diglossia than they do not, and far more than other types of speech community. Il contributo mette a fuoco la realtà linguistica italiana attraverso la produzione artistica di due autori, Angelo Beolco (1496?–1542), detto Ruzante, e Andrea Zanzotto (1921–2011), che consentono di penetrare profondamente nella “questione della lingua” di due periodi cronologicamente lontani, ma essenzialmente collegati tra loro da una costante: la diglossia che, da sempre, caratterizza quell’intarsio linguistico e culturale che è l’Italia. In definitiva, raccogliendo l’invito contenuto nel titolo del convegno, la sfida che può venire dall’approccio a questi due autori è quella di consentire una più completa conoscenza dell’italianità.Odbicie włoskiej diglosji w produkcji literackiej: złożoność socjolingwistyczna dialektuweneckiego odzwierciedlona w tekstach literackich Ruzantego i ZanzottaArtykuł pokazuje złożoność rzeczywistości językowej Włoch poprzez analizę dzieł dwóch pisarzy: Angelo Beolco (1496?–1542), zwanego „Ruzante”, oraz Andrei Zanzotto (1921–2011). Ich twórczość, pochodząca z odległych od siebie epok, łączy wspólna cecha – diglosja, która od zawsze była charakterystyczna dla pejzażu językowego Włoch. ABSTRACTAs a case study in the formation of a new written language in a speech community moving from diglossia toward a “standard-with-dialects”, this article analyzes the development of M[odern] W[ritten] C[hinese] during the past 80 years. After a brief account of the historical background, the article discusses the sources and avenues of influence on the development of MWC, then examines the emergent grammatical and lexical norms, and investigates the variations displayed by the four main Chinese communities: mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The role of language planning is also explored. The similarities and differences between China and Western Europe, in their progress from diglossic to non-diglossic communities, are discussed. Abstract:
This article examines the most extensive case of diglossia in history, that of diglossia in East Asia. In pre-modern times, Classical Chinese functioned as the high (H) language variety in not only China, but also Korea, Japan, and Vietnam, and this entire region can arguably be viewed as a single instance of diglossia in the sense that the rise and eventual decline of diglossia in these societies followed similar patterns, and changes in one society often affected the others. Examination of diglossia in East Asia shows that even during long centuries of apparent stability, gradual changes were always underway, hence supporting Hudson’s (2002) view that stability in diglossic patterns is at best relative. The East Asian case also supports Coulmas’ (2002) view that writing is pivotal to any theory of diglossia, in that the division of roles between H and L in East Asia was essentially one of written/spoken language. Finally, the case of East Asia suggests that there are two essentially different kinds of diglossia, a traditional kind which is common in pre-modern societies and in which H is what Anderson (2006) calls a “sacred language,” and a less common modern kind in which H is a modern standard language.

Based on two sociolinguistic field studies from 2003 and 2009, this paper discusses the language attitudes of High German speakers (H-speakers) toward Low German (the L-variety) in the county of Bentheim, a diglossic speech community in northwestern Germany. While language attitudinal studies are largely absent from the sociolin-guistic corpus in Germany and from Low German research altogether, diglossic studies largely focus on the L-variety and its speakers and evolution. This paper is one of the first attempts to analyze the H-speakers’ perceptions and evaluations of the L-variety over a longer period of time within the fields of diglossia and Low German.

La poesía de César Vallejo, al incorporar estrategias de expresión poética en las que se aleja de la “escritura monolingüe ideal” y hace intervenir diversos niveles de habla del castellano andino, es una clara muestra de una obra comprometida con el carácter plurilingüe de la sociedad en la que se inserta. Ahora bien, cuando Vallejo se traslada a París y cambia su entorno andino original por el del francés, solo algunas de las primeras innovaciones fueron mantenidas. En ese sentido, el objetivo del presente artículo es mostrar los modos en que se manifiesta el cambio de diglosia literaria castellano-quechua por la intervención del francés en la poesía vallejiana a partir del análisis del poema sin título incluido en Poemas humanos.
Because the poetry of César Vallejo incorporates strategies poetic expression in which it moves away from the “ideal monolingual writing” and involves different levels of the Andean Castilian speech, it is a clear sign of a committed work with the multilingual character of the society in which it is inserted. Now, when Vallejo moved to Paris and changed its original Andean setting by French, only some of the early innovations were kept. In that sense, the purpose of this article is to show the ways in which it is evidence the change of Castilian-Quechua literary diglossia by the intervention of French in Vallejo’s poetry from the analysis of the poem untitled included in Poemas humanos.

On a depuis longtemps fait le constat de nombreuses variantes grammaticales en français (la négation avec et sans ne, SV(O) vs. la dislocation à gauche, etc.), les unes étant valorisées et les autres stigmatisées. Dans ce travail, on défend l'idée que l'on a affaire à une situation de diglossie. Cela suppose que les locuteurs intériorisent deux grammaires : l'une, le français démotique, est acquise " sur les genoux de la mère " et l'autre, le français classique tardif, est acquise à l'école et à travers les institutions qui exigent son emploi. On place cette problématique dans un cadre qui requiert l'étude des productions spontanées, l'abandon de l'opposition oral-écrit et de son caractère explicatif, et une transcription phonologique des données. À travers l'étude du nombre, de la négation, et des alternatives à SV(O), on montre l'intérêt descriptif et typologique de décrire deux grammaires. Chaque grammaire ainsi décrite est plus consistante. Enfin, une étude de corpus observe un locuteur diglosse, qui n'active bien qu'une grammaire à la fois : il mélange par exemple la dislocation à gauche avec la négation sans ne, mais jamais avec la négation avec ne.

Since 2011 the Comorian Island of Mayotte has been France’s 101st département, thereby becoming part of the European Union. As a result, France has consolidated and strengthened its strategic position in the Indian Ocean. With the change of political status in 2011, new developments have occurred in Mayotte. It is still unclear whether the expected economic boom, extensive social benefits or injection of EU regional funds can help to alleviate poverty and raise living standards. There is concern, however, that massive immigration to Mayotte from the surrounding territories is diminishing any progress and will continue to do so. Not only France but also the EU will have to adapt to new immigration problems due to this new external border. In this situation one thing is clear: the language contact between French and the local languages, which is the result of political developments, is leading to new dynamics. The diglossic situation east of Africa, between French as the dominant language and local languages like Shimaoré or Shibushi spoken in Mayotte will become more marked in the next few years.

La question migratoire est sans conteste – aussi bien pour les migrants que pour les pays d’immigration – une préoccupation majeure. Les enjeux qui se jouent touchent à la fois l’aspect social que linguistique. Notre travail revient sur le phénomène ci-dessus évoqué – à savoir le phénomène d’immigration – en nous intéressant cette fois-ci à la migration équato-guinéenne au Gabon, Libreville en particulier. L’objectif visé étant de tenter de comprendre d’une part, ce qui est à son fondement. D’autre part, ses conséquences sur la compétence discursive des locuteurs équato-guinéens qui vivent au Gabon de manière générale, Libreville en particulier. La première partie a été pour nous, l’occasion de décortiquer les trajectoires historiques du Gabon et de la Guinée Equatoriale afin de mieux comprendre, d’une part, ce qui fait du Gabon un espace convoité par les nombreuses communautés étrangères présentes sur son sol; d’autre part, ce qui est au cœur de la forte présence équato-guinéenne au Gabon, et dans sa capitale, Libreville, en particulier. La deuxième partie quant à elle, revient sur la situation de la langue espagnole mise en contact avec le français qui, dispose au Gabon, d’un important pouvoir. C’est comme dit Pierre Bourdieu « la langue légitime ». Que fait alors le locuteur équato-guinéen face à cette donne. Accepte t-il de vivre dans une espèce de loyauté linguistique (c’est-à-dire de rester fidèle à sa langue et à son groupe linguistique) ? Ou bien est-il amené à se forger une identité bilingue ? La troisième et dernière partie enfin, traduit dans les faits les conséquences engendrées par le contact français-espagnol sur le terrain librevillois. On retrouve une langue française dominante et dont les structures influent sur la compétence en espagnol des locuteurs équato-guinéens. Avec pour corollaire, l’apparition des phénomènes de langues tels que : interférence, alternance de code, emprunt, calque etc
The migration issue is with no doubt of a major concern for migrants, as well as for the immigration countries. The impact is of social and linguistic aspect. Our project is based on the above mentioned phenomenon: the phenomenon of immigration, with focus on the Equatorial Guinea people migration in Gabon (Libreville). The aim is to try to understand its origins in one hand. In the other hand we will show its consequences on the discursive competence of the Equatorial Guinea speakers living in Gabon (Libreville). In the first part, we tried to dissect the historical paths of Gabon and Equatorial Guinea to better grasp in one hand why Gabon is a greatly desirable country by the so many foreigner communities living in its soil, and in the other hand what makes Equatorial Guinea people to settle in Gabon, especially in its capital Libreville. The second part tackles the problem of the contact of the two languages: French and Spanish; with French as a dominating language in Gabon. “Legitimate language “; says Pierre BOURDIEU. From this contact, how does the Equatorial Guinea speaker react? Is he agree to live in such a loyalty (to be attached to his language and linguistic group. )? Will he be able to create a bilingual identity? The third and the last part points out the facts and consequences of the contact in Libreville of the two languages: French and Spanish. French is the first language in Gabon. Its syntactic structures have an influence on the spanish speaking competence of the Equatorial Guinea speakers. So this situation leads to the following language phenomena: interferences, alteration of codes, borrowings, copy etc

Abstract:
The city of Basel is situated in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, in the geographic triangle of three countries: France, Germany and Switzerland. Everyday urban life is characterised by the presence of Standard German and Swiss German as well as diverse migrant languages. Swiss German is ‘an umbrella term for several Alemannic dialects’ (Stepkowska 2012, 202) which differ from Standard German in terms of phonetics, semantics, lexis, and grammar and has no standard written form. Swiss German is predominantly used in oral forms, and Standard German in written communication. Furthermore, an amalgamation of bilingualism and diglossia (Stepkowska 2012, 208) distinguishes the specific linguistic situation, which indicates amongst other things the high prestige of Swiss German in everyday life. To explore the visibility and vitality of Swiss German in the public display of written language, we examined the linguistic landscape of a superdiverse neighbourhood of Basel, and investigated language power and the story beyond the sign – ‘stories about the cultural, historical, political and social backgrounds of a certain space’ (Blommaert 2013, 41). Our exploration was guided by the question: How do linguistic artefacts – such as official, commercial, and private signs – represent the diglossic situation and the relation between language and identity in Kleinbasel? Based on a longitudinal ethnographic study, a corpus was compiled comprising 300 digital images of written artefacts in Kleinbasel. Participant observation and focus group discussions about particular images were conducted and analysed using grounded theory (Charmaz 2006) and visual ethnography (Pink 2006). In our paper, we focus on signs in Swiss German and focus group discussions on these images. Initial analyses have produced two surprising findings; firstly, the visibility and the perception of Swiss German as a marker of local identity; secondly, the specific context of their display.
