Karampagia, Valentina. Thesis, Paris 3, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA030065.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis proposes a path throughout the poetry of Gherasim Luca and the dramatic writing of Dimitris Dimitriadis based on the philosophical and the aesthetic questions of performativity. This notion circulating between the philosophy of language and of art is decisive so as to understand the great relation of both authors’ writing to the body and the act of reading. Contemporary dance is a basic reference into this path : it is, indeed, profoundly performative as it’s creations are similar to demonstration and it’s temporality vacillates between the moment of improvising and the composition’s repetition. Demonstration is, equally, a performative aspect of language : words define things, and thus, they inscribe them in an motion. Therefore, language is the scene where the performance of being restarts endlessly. Furthermore, performativity of language is determined by the vacillation between the present and repetition itself : meaning is grasped by a mouvement of undermining of the present by a past improbable to limitate and all communication takes place in the background of something that espaces from it. Instead of clarifying an object, language’s fuction is to broaden it infinitely. Contemporary danse is an island in this vast space of thought on performativity and offers precious tools so as to navigate in the hybrid literary work of Luca and Dimitriadis. Danse indeed converses with these texts, which unfold the plasticity of language. It finally gives answers in regard to the texts’ tendancy to render the past of writing and the present of reading, as well as the boundaries between poetry and theater, permeable

Tzani, Nikoleta. Thesis, Strasbourg, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012STRAG007.

Full text
Abstract:
Costas Dimitriadis (1879-1943), who lived and worked in Athens and Paris, was the most famous Greek artist of the first half of the twentieth century. Through his directorship of the School of Fine Arts in Athens (1930-1943), he defined the role and viewpoint of public art institutions in Greece to this day. This dissertation traces Dimitriadis’ life and work. It begins with his youth in Eastern Roumelia followed by an examination of his studies in Athens both as an apprentice and in the School of Fine Arts. The dissertation continues with an exploration of his early career in Europe and the role Paris intellectual circles played in his artistic development, mainly the prominent members Jean Moréas and Jean Pischari, and his patron, the arms dealer Basil Zaharoff. In addition, this dissertation establishes the process by which Dimitriadis established ateliers in Paris and London, as well as a leading role in the art life of these cities as well as in Greece. His political viewpoints are also examined; for example, his support to the Venizelist Governments (1922-1932), which promoted modernization of the Greek state through the Europeanization of art institutions and his role in cultural diplomacy are documented and discussed. Circumstances that limited Dimitriadis’ leading role are also examined, including policies of the dictator Ioannis Metaxas and the Occupation of Greece during World War II. Although chronological in structure, the dissertation also explores thematic issues. It includes moreover a Catalogue Raisonné of the artist

Jacovides-Andrieu, Anna Olvia. "Dimitris Lipertis, poète de Chypre." Paris 3, 1991. http://www.theses.fr/1991PA030069.

Full text
Abstract:
Is dimitris lipertis the poet of cyprus as public opinion would have it ? even today his verse, set to music, is sung in the island and he exerts an influence on the cypriot poets. Our thesis proves the exactness of this judgment, and explains it through the life and the work of the poet, also through the social, cultural and political context of cyprus during his lifetime. The life of the poet is placed in the context of the turkish and english occupation, and of the cypriots' perpetual aspiration for nuion with greece. After a happy childhood the poet experienced difficult years looking for work. It is at that time that he observed the people of cyprus. Being drawn closer to the peasants of his island he felt the need to write his verse in dialect. There are four collections written in the cypriot dialect which brought him consecration and the title of poet of cyprus. Lipertis became the representant of his people their favourite painter, their witness, their defender, and the guardian of their traditions. His public declamations were many and marked all the important times of the history of his country. Having chosen to speek the language of his island but also for his poetic talent lipertis became a model and shone beyond the frontiers of cyprus
