Abstract:
The Dinagat Islands hold a large and varied avian fauna with high rate of endemism and species of conservation concern. However, anthropogenic activities pose a grave threat to the avian diversity of these islands. We conducted a three-year (2017–2019) avifaunal survey using mist-nets to inventory the avian species of the islands. We recorded 37 species in 22 families. Seventeen species are Philippine endemic, one species is of conservation concern, and two species are newly recorded from the Dinagat Islands. Plant habit, and leaf, inflorescence, indumentum and peristome-column morphology appear superficially similar to those of the ultramaficolous montane species of Palawan, implicating an environmental basis for a syndrome of shared characteristics.

Both species belong to the Pilosella species group sensu Sohmer and Davis (2007), characterized by inflorescences with defined axes bearing sessile flowers and fruits. Psychotria alejandroi is similar to P. pilosella but can be distinguished by having truncate, lobed stipules with its inner lobes extending into long aristae, lanceolate to narrowly ovate leaves that are coriaceous and scabrous, longer inflorescences (2–4 cm long), bracts with entire margins, 5- to 6-merous

Schizaea erecta Amoroso & Coritico (Schizaeaceae) from Dinagat Island, Mindanao, Philippines, is here described. This species is distinguished from other species of Schizaea by its consistently erect sterile and fertile fronds, narrow laminae, opposite sorophore lobes, rhizomes covered with short appressed brown scales, and oblong sporangia with apical annulus and conspicuous long, white hairs. A taxonomic key to the species of Philippine Schizaeaceae is provided.

A new species of blueberry, Vaccinium coarctatum M.N.Tamayo & Fernando, from the dwarf forest on ultramafic soil of Dinagat Island, Philippines, is described. It closely resembles Vaccinium hamiguitanense P.W.Fritsch but is distinct from that species in having a longer inflorescence, shorter pedicels, longer and persistent bracteoles, white-hirsutulous calyx lobes, and shorter anther spurs. This discovery brings the number of Vaccinium species known from the Philippines to 41. A key to the small-leaved Vaccinium in the Philippines is provided.

The Philippine province of Dinagat Islands supports a huge array of flora and fauna with a high rate of endemism, including three species of mammals found nowhere else in the world. However, anthropogenic activities such as mining are rampant on the island and present a grave threat to the island’s unique biodiversity. We conducted a survey of volant and small non-volant mammals in selected municipalities of Dinagat Islands to contribute to the current understanding of Philippine mammalian fauna. A total of 17 species of volant mammals were recorded among 420 individuals captured in mist nets,

The Mindanao treeshrew (Tupaia everetti Thomas, 1892) is an endemic non-volant mammal species found in the Mindanao Faunal Region in the Philippines. The nest architecture and nest site characteristics of T. everetti are described for the first time based on a single active nest documented from Dinagat Islands. The nest was on the ground, built inside a cavity of a dead pandan tree (Sararanga cf. philippinensis), and was surrounded by natural vegetation. This nest discovery is a valuable contribution to the minimal existing literature about this poorly studied species, which may be increasingl
