The current article is devoted to the analysis and description of the language of a modern diplomatic text, which represents a diplomatic substyle of a business style. In the Czech language, which possesses a wide stylistic differentiation, a diplomatic substyle remains insufficiently studied. A diplomatic substyle is an integral part of the language of diplomatic communication, in which the Heads of the State and the Government, the ministers of foreign affairs, and representative institutions are involved. This fact brings it closer to the language of political communication. For this reason,

The article states that of the three substyles of the official and business style of the Ukrainian language only the administrative and managerial substyles have been described in detail, while the legislative and diplomatic ones have remained outside the researchers’ interests. It is because of the lack of data regarding the legislative substyle that linguistic dictionaries and textbooks of stylistics wrongly attribute certain structures to the official and business style specific features. A far from unique example is the assertion that the official and business style demonstrates &laq

Abstract Cities are once again in the forefront of diplomatic activities. In this essay, I unpack a relatively understudied area within city diplomacy: the link between cities and countries. Although cities enjoy a heightened level of agency in the international arena, they do not exist in a vacuum. As substate actors, the actions of cities could impact their home countries. Using lessons learned from public diplomacy studies and situating soft power as a framework to describe such activities, I first present the changes in the diplomatic landscape that paved the way to resurgence of city dipl

The study of International Relations has been increasingly paying more attention to the rise of non-state entities as new global actors. Consequently, this also brings the concept of paradiplomacy, or the diplomatic activities conducted by substate governments, to the forefront of discussion within the discipline. However, since paradiplomacy mainly stems from the tradition of federalism in the Western world, limited studies have provided more theoretical nuance through case studies in non-Western, unitary states. Abstract Foreign policy analysis (FPA) and paradiplomacy have natural affinities, including a concern for the diversity of domestic agents and their impact on a country’s foreign policy behaviour. There has been little theoretical and empirical interaction between these two areas of scholarship, however. This chapter seeks to identify pathways to correct this state of affairs. It argues that FPA should use its theoretical toolbox and the extensive empirical evidence uncovered by paradiplomacy scholars to outline the role of substate governments in the national foreign policy-making process and
