But conventional recorder technologies require inordinate maintenance and daily calibration. Attempts at strip chart emulation involving costly dedicated microcomputers and CRT's have failed, because the chart itself is not real-time, a basic requirement. <p>Lowering the cost of wave energy conversion is an essential task for it to succeed as a future energy resource. In this work a converter, assumed cheaper than the regular back to back converter setting, have been investigated for a electric direct drive point absorber. Both experimental work and simulations are used in the analysis. In the experimental work, a permanent magnet generator with a 6-pulse diode rectifier, a DC-link and a DC/DC converter equivalent, was used. Steady state, dynamic and transient measurements were preformed and a simulation model was compared to the measurements.

This paper explores a particular job creation channel during a resource boom, using Mongolia as a case study. Resource booms can lead to impressive growth rates in resource-rich developing countries. The paper examines the link between resource booms triggered by new resource projects and FDI inflows into the non-resource sector on one hand, and FDI and job creation on the other. Its analysis focuses explicitly on the non-resource sector, where the positive economic effects of FDI are more pronounced than in the extractive sector.

Abstract:
This paper shows that poor health at birth can act as a barrier to upward economic mobility, reinforcing inequality across generations. Using linked administrative data for two Canadian birth cohorts, we find that mothers born with low birth weight (LBW) are significantly more likely to have LBW children. Sibling comparisons reveal that LBW reduces the probability of surpassing parental income rank by 4 percent. We show that ongoing childhood health shocks partly—but not fully—explain this effect, suggesting both direct and indirect pathways. Our findings highlight how policies targeting prena
