Abstract:
Based on researches of Baiyao (1995) and Zhang and Xu (2001), this paper proposes an improved 2D MT Zohdy-Oldenburg direct inversion method, in the least-square sense, embodying the features of Zohdy’s ratio method and Oldenburg’s difference method, in the condition of rugged topography, with phase information. It bypasses large calculations of the Jacobian matrix and large sparse linear systems of equations and enables direct modifications and comparisons of the model parameters. According to the calculation and analysis of examples, it shows faster convergence and higher precision. In contra

A new approach for electromagnetic modeling of three‐dimensional (3-D) earth conductivity structures using integral equations is introduced. A conductivity structure is divided into many substructures and the integral equation governing the scattering currents within a substructure is solved by a direct matrix inversion. The influence of all other substructures are treated as external excitations and the solution for the whole structure is then found iteratively. This is mathematically equivalent to partitioning the scattering matrix into many block submatrices and solving the whole system by

Abstract Numerical inversion of the first kind Volterra equation (the Abel inversion included) has been extensively studied. Direct methods were probably the first methods used to attempt the inversion. Together with the computer hardware evolution, new methods were devised in order to deal with the inherent problem of this kind of equation, that is, error magnification. Using a large number of data points (several thousands) most methods are difficult to use, specially when the inversion and its error are required on line, that is, while performing the experiments.

Abstract:
This chapter engages with recent criticism of Spanish’s status as a V2 language, suggesting that the criticism is ill-founded and arguing that it was a relatively strict V2 language, showing a prefield comparable to other V2 systems, Germanic-inversion, and direct object fronting without clitic resumption. Both verb-initial and verb-third orders are also shown to be heavily restricted in certain later Old Spanish texts when compared to other Medieval Romance V2 varieties. The chapter challenges the notion that Old Spanish was a symmetrical V2 language, presenting quantitative data that it showed word order asymmetries between matrix and embedded clauses, which are typical of asymmetric V2 systems such as Modern German and Dutch.

Abstract This paper deals with the acoustical design goal for a new approach in submarine architecture calling for the use of an internal truss to support the ship’s control and living spaces in the forward section. The acoustical design goal is to minimize truss vibration over a broad band of frequency through the application of passive damping treatments. Damping can be placed in three generic locations: 1) in or along the truss members, 2) in the joints between members, and 3) in dynamic absorbers placed at discrete locations along the truss members. Normally the strain field is indirectly determined by differentiating the displacement fields. This indirect method always suffers from noise, and the shear strain accuracy is poor due to the rigid body rotation effect. In this paper, a direct strain measurement method based on affine transform matrix decomposition is introduced. A new method for strain matrix inversion without determining the rotation is proposed. This can be used for both local and global 2D/3D strain determination. A uniaxial tensile test with grid measurement technique is carried out to validate this method.

Abstract:
A direct adaptive feedforward control method for tracking repeatable runout (RRO) in bit patterned media recording (BPMR) hard disk drives (HDD) is proposed. The technique estimates the system parameters and the residual RRO simultaneously and constructs a feedforward signal based on a known regressor. An improved version of the proposed algorithm to avoid matrix inversion and reduce computation complexity is given. Results for both MATLAB simulation and digital signal processor (DSP) implementation are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

In the field of turbomachinery, great efforts are made to enhance computational tools to obtain reliable predictions of the vibrational behavior of friction-damped bladed disks. As a trade-off between computational burden and level of simplification, numerous methods were developed to reduce the nonlinear systems dimension. Using component mode synthesis methods (CMS), one is capable to describe the systems motion by interface and modal coordinates.
