Abstract:
The drilled surface characteristic of epoxy resin reinforced by multi-directional carbon fibers is investigated based on experiments. With the emphasis on the effect of fiber direction, the mechanism of inhomogeneous surface topography is discussed. Besides, the mechanism of drilling-induced delamination and splitting defects are analyzed, and the drill condition and drilling parameters are also considered. It is indicated that the varied fiber direction is the main cause resulting in the inhomogeneous topography; delamination is easy to occur between two adjacent laminas which have different

Even though the traffic is encrypted in multiple layers, traffic analysis can still be used to gather information from meta-data such as time, size, and direction of the traffic. A Website Fingerprinting (WF) attack is characterized by monitoring traffic locally to the user in order to predict the destination website based on the observed patterns. Variational methods and Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) have been extensively employed for the mathematical formulation of a myriad of problems describing physical phenomena such as heat propagation, thermodynamic transformations and many more. In imaging, PDEs following variational principles are often considered. In their general form these models combine a regularisation and a data fitting term, balancing one against the other appropriately. Total variation (TV) regularisation is often used due to its edgepreserving and smoothing properties. In this thesis, we focus on the design of T

Abstract:
Polymer Optical Fiber is opted as the most suitable medium for short haul communication system since it has lower cost and low loss for limited distance of transmission compared to glass fiber. This topic aims to show an alternative, green-technology based, economic and user-oriented communication passive device specifically a directional coupler by lapping tapered-fibers technique. This developed device is using designed geometrical blocks with integration of tapering effect, Dc, macro-bending, Rc, force exertion unto the coupling region, Fc, and etching lengths of the cores, Le to gain different splitting ratios, i.e., 50:50 and 90:10 experimentally by using the designed geometrical blocks with varied bending radii that affects the radiation of evanescent wave and to relate the integration of Couple Mode Theory and Hertz’s Law to obtain optimum coupling efficiency. The development may be an option to current device that are less user-friendly and fragile. This device is developed as a green technology-based device as an option for higher speed communication devices since the materials using in the development is safe, harmless, and inexpensive.

Abstract:
The objective of drilling a well is to prepare a clean hole without obstructions for further casing and production tubing running. Cuttings transport has always been important, but challenging process, especially when drilling long directional wells. Poor hole cleaning causes severe problems, as stuck pipe, extreme torque and drag, difficulties in casing landing, cementing, etc. Extensive studies of cuttings transport, both theoretical and experimental, have been performed to estimate, for example, cuttings concentration and cuttings slip velocity to determine optimal conditions for effective
