Thus, this thesis begins from the position that disabled peoples’ access to and experiences of sexual life occur in the context of these dominant ableist constructions of disabled sexualities, and that the reclamation or formation of a sexual self requires resista

Abstract:
AbstractThe rights of people with disabilities to be included in the design of policy and services are asserted in international treaties such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability and increasingly reflected in disability policies across the world. Approaches to facilitating the inclusion of lived experiences and the perspectives of people with disabilities include consultative, advisory or governance bodies, as well as co-design of projects, advocacy work of Disabled Person’s Organisations and self-advocacy groups. The success of these various approaches depends on their power to influence policy and services, the way they operate and the methods they use to support the participation of people with disabilities. This chapter reviews evidence about different approaches to tapping into the expertise people with disabilities have from their lived experiences of disability, and considers the types of practices most effective for working together with people with disabilities and some of the unresolved issues that support workers, managers and policy makers must grapple with to further the rights of people so that there is ‘nothing about us without us’.

It provides an overview of the rights-based aims of contemporary disability policy and the broad contours of individualised funding models such as the NDIS, the social demographics of people with disability and the eight domains of quality of life which form the framework for the book.It proposes the need for Both/And thinking in disability practice and the dangers of using As If as a device for obscuring difference.

Abstract Disability discrimination laws can be a potent tool to safeguard the rights and meet the needs of persons with intellectual disabilities. In the United States, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) is highly specific and has achieved results for groups and individuals. In Israel, the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Law of 1998 (ERPDL), while relatively untested, combines both non-discrimination and self determination provisions. Many countries feature disability rights over sight agencies, such as the United Kingdom’s Disability Rights Commission (established in conjunction with the Disability Discrimination Act of 1995 (ODA)), or Sweden’s Disability Ombudsman that oversees disability non discrimination laws for the benefit of persons with intellectual and other disabilities.

Abstract:
Intellectual and developmental disabilities often meet more oppositions than other types of human rights disabilities, largely because if disability was historical viewed as medical model rather than a human rights issues. The concept of social inclusion shifts in the way disability is viewed, a shift from the medical model of disability to a social model of disability. The social model framed disability as a human rights issue, and thus argued that disability rights should be included within the broader set of human rights. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities continue to experience high rates of social isolation. Social inclusion promotes full participation with the community does not necessarily mean people with intellectual developmental disabilities feel integrated within the community or accepted by their peers. It involves making meaningful connections and participation in fulfilling activities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additional social inclusion remains an important element of well-being for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The formation of countless organisations of people with disabilities organizations (OPDs) around the world effectively amplified the voices of persons with intellectual and development disabilities and worked to promote disability as a human rights concern. Collaboration is significant to expand interaction networks with larger civil society organisations and cross disabilities to advocate social inclusion for all. Social inclusion promoting self-reliance by people with intellectual and development with disabilities. The subsequent policies and conventions that came to force as a result promoting inclusion, set the stage for the formation of the inclusion people with intellectual and development with disabilities.

Abstract:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2021) reported an increase in the prevalence of persons with disabilities affecting one in four people in the United States. Disability awareness and inclusion describe how a combination of understanding, acknowledgment, compassion, and acceptance can allow persons with disability the same opportunities as those without disabilities. This can be seen with the increase in persons with a disability graduating from postsecondary institutions, about 14% from 2012 to 2022 of persons over 25. This chapter covers foundational material regarding disability awareness and inclusion, including the prevalence of disability in general and in educational settings, the models of disability, myths and facts. disability etiquette, and person-first language. The chapter encompasses the evolution of disability awareness related to the treatment toward and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Abstract:
In Chile, 15.1% of adults under 65 have a disability, with higher prevalence among women and older individuals. Disability is associated with reduced levels of income and education. Even after controlling for observable characteristics like education and gender, individuals with disabilities experience 21% lower income than individuals without disabilities. Their health expenditures are also twice as high as those of persons without disabilities. Individuals with disabilities thus face both reduced income and increased expenditure levels.

We use an annual panel of Chilean labor outcomes based on administrative data from pension and unemployment insurance, as well as data from the National Disability Registry in Chile. The findings reveal a significant gender gap associated with childbirth, which more than doubles in the presence of childhood disability: four years after childbirth, the gender gap in employment increases from 15% to 36%

People with disabilities seem to experience hardship in life and other disadvantages. Such difficulty seems to be related to the fact that disabled people tend to lack many essential elements in life, which could stem from inadequate, inefficient, and ineffective welfare. Also related is the general public that tends to exhibit little or no concern about the disability issue. As such, three groups of people are identified to be associated with the disability issue – people with disabilities, the State offering the disability welfare, and the general public sharing social resources with disable
