Abstract:
Inpatient rehabilitation is a transition phase and a component of integrated healthcare for high-risk patients with different cardiovascular diseases. Therefore its main focus is on functional and structural evaluation and risk stratification for the rehabilitation process and post-discharge period. Exercise electrocardiogram, transthoracic echocardiography, and a 6-minute walk test should be considered in all patients, at admission and at discharge. Particular attention should be given to specific conditions such as, myocarditis, patients with cardiac devices, and/or after heart valve interve

Abstract:
David Chalmers thinks his iPhone exemplifies the extended-mind thesis by meeting the criteria that he and Andy Clark established in their well-known paper (1998). Andy Clark agrees. This chapter takes this proposal seriously, evaluating the case of the GPS-enabled smartphone as a potential mind extender. It is argued here that the “trust and glue” criteria enumerated by Clark and Chalmers are incompatible with both the epistemic responsibilities that accompany everyday activities and the practices of trust that enable users to discharge them. Prospects for revision of the original criteria are

Abstract:
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) consists of inflammation in various parts of the upper genital tract and includes endometritis, salpingitis, tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA), and/or pelvic peritonitis. Overt acute PID patients typically present as ill-appearing with pain, fever, chills, purulent vaginal discharge, nausea, vomiting, and elevated white blood cells. “Silent” PID presents with dyspareunia, irregular bleeding, and urinary and gastrointestinal complaints. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and associated microorganisms are present in acute PID patients. PID coverage is focused on a polymicrobial

Abstract:
In modern anaesthesia practice, hypnotic drugs, opioids, and neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) are combined. The introduction of NMBAs in particular substantially increased the risk of awareness and recall during general anaesthesia. Hypnotic drugs such as propofol and volatile anaesthetics act through GABAA receptors and have typical effects on the electroencephalogram (EEG). During increasing concentrations of these pharmaceuticals, the EEG desynchronization is followed by gradual synchronization, slowing frequency, and increasing amplitude of EEG, thereafter EEG suppressions (burst supp
