Abstract:
Abstract<title> ABSTRACT </title>How should we commemorate Bonhoeffer in this anniversary year of his execution? While Bonhoeffer's legacy has been contested, especially in German theology, and his theological influence has declined, we continue to be fascinated by him as a person. Bonhoeffer's life and death is a paradigm of the right relationship between faith and practice, i.e. of discipleship. This can be linked to developments in biblical hermeneutics that stress the original context of the text and the need for a response by the reader to bring out its relevance. Bonhoeffer's ecumenical significance is evidenced by his affinity to Karl Rahner ― both affirmed the prior unacknowledged presence of Christ in the secular world - and to the Ignatian Exercises.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper is concerned with Christopher Isherwood’s portrayal of his guru-disciple relationship with Swami Prabhavananda, situating it in the tradition of discipleship, which dates back to antiquity. It discusses Isherwood’s (auto)biographical works as records of his spiritual journey, influenced by his guru. The main focus of the study is My Guru and His Disciple, a memoir of the author and his spiritual master, which is one of Isherwood’s lesser-known books. The paper attempts to examine the way in which a commemorative portrait of the guru, suggested by the title, is incorporated into an account of Isherwood’s own spiritual development. It discusses the sources of Isherwood’s initial prejudice against religion, as well as his journey towards embracing it. It also analyses the facets of Isherwood and Prabhavananda’s guru-disciple relationship, which went beyond a purely religious arrangement. Moreover, the paper examines the relationship between homosexuality and religion and intellectualism and religion, the role of E. M. Forster as Isherwood’s secular guru, the question of colonial prejudice, as well as the reception of Isherwood’s conversion to Vedanta and his religious works.

Abstract:
Abstract Many Christians never deal with God, but only deal with religion, church, and pastors. Although many Christians still feel they have dealt with God, thus making them Christians who do not experience God personally, and certainly do not experience the discipleship process. Through descriptive qualitative methods, it can be concluded that Christians should have the character of Christ according to the title Christian first appeared in Antioch which was assigned to students who learned the Gospel from Paul Barnabas for being followers of Jesus Christ. People who are in Christ must wear passion, spirit, and desire as Jesus wore so that the behavior of believers who call Christians behave like Christ. This must continue to be fought for because it cannot happen automatically, it takes a high and serious and consistent effort for a long time until the end to be found to be in Christ.

Hertig, Paul. "Fool's Gold." Missiology: An International Review 35, no. 3 (2007): 287–303. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/009182960703500304.

Abstract:
They've got a name for the winners of the world, I want a name when I lose They call Alabama the Crimson Tide, Call me deacon blues The title of this study is deliberately ambiguous. “Fool's gold” is known to be false gold; gold for fools, gold that fools. However, with an emphasis on gold rather than on fool, “fool's gold” means gold from a fool, my intended meaning. I am deliberately ambiguous, however, because, for his readers, Paul's use of the word “fool” is just plain folly; they miss the point, and cannot get beyond the plain meaning. Furthermore, Paul himself was ambiguous in his self-portrayal as fool. In one breath he says “Let no one take me for a fool.” In another he states just the opposite: “we are fools for Christ” and “God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom.” He also states, “you should become fools so that you may become wise (2 Cor 11:16, 17; 1 Cor 4:10; 1 Cor 1:25; 1 Cor 3:18). Paul reinforces his self-description of “fool” for Christ (4:9) with ancient Greek theater imagery. Most notable is: “spectacle” ( theatron); “be imitators” ( mimetai — the verbal form of the mime); and “fool” ( môros, or “moron”) — a bit part, low class actor in the mime. Through theater imagery, Paul weaves together theological, sociological, and political themes that lie at the heart of his missiological engagement with the world. Paul's nuances of ‘fool’ reveal the secret of humility and suffering in the context of discipleship. His assertion, “imitate me” in the “ways of the Lord” (4:16.17), speaks to issues that divide the Corinthian community: imitate me, the low class fool, the team player, rather than the wise of the world that set themselves above others. Paul's use of ‘fool’ is examined in 1 Corinthians 4, satirically, ironically, historically, theologically, and missiologically. This opens up windows to the contemporary emerging church and its inverted nature as a contrast to traditional church structures and hierarchies.

Abstract:
This study sought to establish the linkage between stewardship and discipleship in the context of Kwamrombo SDA Church in Arusha City, using 20 church members as participants. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews and the thematic approach was employed in analysis. The study holds that in order to resolve the discipleship and stewardship issues in the Kwamrombo church, members need to make decisions to equally support the church through discipleship and stewardship. If couples plan their finances together, they will be more likely to remind each other on the importance returning tithe and giving offering faithfully. They will also be of help to their children and other church members. Church programs need be conducted in a holistic approach by encompassing both spiritual and economic empowerment aspects including entrepreneurship and personal financial management. There is need for intentional discipleship program that will enable the church members to know their God given responsibilities as Disciples of Christ. Church pastors and church leaders need to launch stewardship programs that will include faithfully receiving the word of God in their lives and living in harmony with the word. This will motivate members to return tithe, give offerings and participate in discipleship programs effectively.

Abstract:
While discipleship and stewardship are essential aspects in Christian life, combination of the two terms can provide financial stability and spiritual growth in the church. This study employed the literary method through the collection of journal articles from America, Europe Asia and Africa with topics which have addressed the two aspects. The findings show that it is important that every church member should surrender his/her life to Jesus before surrendering all that he/she has to Christ. The study recommends that church members must be led to be faithful stewards and faithful disciples by precepts and example. Church leaders and pastors need to call church members to surrender their lives to Christ before calling them to surrender their wealth for supporting the work of God. They should also make calls that church members should not only give tithe and offerings for sustaining the gospel work, but they should also engage themselves in making disciples for Christ.

Abstract:
Abstract: In the present study the author begins by introducing the contents of the Document of Participation in the 5th Conference of the Latin American and Caribbean Bishops and proceeds by providing some analytical comments on the text. In the introduction, the paper follows the original structure of the Document and thus maintains the original titles and numbers in the brief discussion of the text. As for the analysis, three types of comments are made: a) on the order of the contents and the methodological approach; b) on the contents of the five chapters; and c) on the relation between the Document and the Latin-American tradition, the latter seen as a historical result of the Vatican II’s “creative initiative”. In the author’s view, the objective of these reflections is to contribute – with the ecclesial communities’participation – towards the preparation of the 5th Conference the central topics of which will be discipleship and missionaryship.
