Abstract:
The future of the church does not depend on the younger generation, but the Lord Jesus Christ. This theological foundation leads the church—in this case GPIB—to a more effective and robust ministry for the Millennial generation through discipleship. This paper aims to show that without discipleship, every effort to reach Millennials to get involved in the church is efficient but has not been effective yet. Modifying worships and traditions to reach Millennials is a form of external transformation, while discipleship talks about internal transformation. Without internal transformation, efficient external transformation efforts have not been effective.

Abstract:
Bevans’ concept of transforming discipleship foregrounds a fundamental symbiotic relationship between discipleship and mission. The interplay between both practices is central to the wider debate of contemporary church social engagement under missio Dei. He explains that the notion of baptism and theosis embedded in the idea of transforming discipleship points to a concrete transformation of the human experience and condition. This forms the premise of this article in exploring how Christian practices of discipleship and mission articulate a process of human becoming and participation in the life and mission of God that centres on a critical engagement with lived reality. This understanding offers a consistent framework of fostering a mutual relationship between local churches and communities in the poorer urban context, which often face the twin challenge of church and social decline. It questions a simplistic binary correlation between the practices of discipleship and mission. Such correlation often leads to a seeming dichotomy in Christian practices, with mission being portrayed as a means of achieving a quantitative outcome and discipleship a qualitative one. Instead, the focus of this article is to elucidate how discipleship and mission are interwoven, that both start with God and are integral to the actualisation of God’s salvific plan in the world.

Abstract:
The prosperity gospels must be considered first in the context of authentic discipleship, which is herein defined and unfolded thematically (from both Old and New Testaments) as a life of worship; devotion and loyalty in the form of faithfulness, renunciation, mercy, and love; and self-sacrifice. So understood, such discipleship is the antithesis of personal status, worldly privilege, and/or temporal power--in other words, it is the antithesis of the kinds of status, privilege, and power falsely claimed by the prosperity gospels.

Abstract:
The Cape Town Commitment: A Confession of Faith and a Call to Action is one of the significant documents of evangelical Christianity that briefly addresses many important topics; one of such topics is discipleship. This article traces the theme of discipleship in the document and offers a theological reflection on the content and form of discipleship for contemporary evangelical Christianity. After the first part where the topic of discipleship is addressed, the article continues to offer a theological reflection on the topic of discipleship. Hence, the second part discusses the content and the form of discipleship. While the third part explains the importance of discipleship arguing that discipleship (Matthew 28) is the channel through which God realizes the return of the original creational blessing that was promised to Abraham in Genesis 12. In the conclusion it is pointed out that if we want to take the topic of discipleship from The Cape Town Commitment seriously, the following is needed: a) to understand that discipleship is not an after-school or extracurricular activity but a channel through which God wants to spread his redemptive blessing to all nations; b) in our local churches and academic institutions we need to return teaching by example, because various church or educational activities are part of the discipleship but they are not a supplement for teaching by example; c) to redeem the term “Christian” in a way that this term is only used for those who are “disciples.”

In recent years many discipleship models emerged on the Christian global scene. One discipleship model that has garnered attention in theological seminaries, mission organizations, and churches is the T4T discipleship model (Training for Trainers). The T4T discipleship model is a part of Church Planting Movements (CPMs) and Disciple Making Movements (DMMs). This article provides information about the T4T discipleship model - what it is, what it does, and how is it applied. Further, this article considers its strengths and weaknesses regarding the use of it in the Croatian context. This article concludes that the T4T discipleship model is not suitable for use in local churches in Croatia unless there are substantial adaptations to its teaching and practices.

Abstract:
A historical survey and critical evaluation concerning discipleship in the Fourth Gospel The historical survey about discipleship in the Fourth Gospel indicates that the literature of the second half of this century was sketchy about this theme. Up till 1972 a thematic-theological approach highlighted some characteristics of discipleship as they appeared in all four gospels. The study of Jimenez (1972) was the first substantial approach to research about discipleship in the Fourth Gospel and caused a paradigm shift to restrict his study to only the Fourth Gospel. During the 80's the interest about this theme increased, due to Rudolph Bultmann. After Bultmann more attention was paid to the situation and circumstances of the audience which contribute to a greater interest on discipleship and ecclesiology in the Fourth Gospel. Although no constant current influence on discipleship has been observed, most scholars are unanimous that the focal point of discipleship lies in the "Last Discourse".

Abstract:
Many churches and Christians are still unfamiliar with the practice of discipleship, and even if they are familiar with the term discipleship, there are still many who are reluctant or less serious in making discipleship the core of church ministry. It is for this purpose that this research was conducted. The method used is a literature study from discipleship and church experts which is analyzed to get the root of the problem and concepts that should be according to the Bible so that applications can be drawn for today, especially for Christian education patterns in church discipleship or churches that make disciples. The result of this research is the discovery of several applications that are very important for the perspective of Christian religious education related to the church and discipleship that must be continuously worked on, namely: First, Discipleship is the responsibility of all Christians. Second, Discipleship of the church has a strong impact on the spiritual growth of believers. Third, sending students to make disciples is an effective pattern of Christian education. Fourth, the importance of having a fellow disciple disciple in the same vision.

This article presents the biblical meaning of disciple and discipleship and uncovers the importance of community-based discipleship. Literature was engaged to throw light in arguments. The article appeals that a church that seeks to be successful needs to follow the method of Jesus by making disciples through community-based discipleship and relationship principles. Making community-based discipleship a priority will help the church to produce connected and transformed disciples, not just converts to the movement. Strong community-based discipleship builds strong disciples of Jesus and strong churches for mission. The church with the community-based discipleship will successfully fulfill the Great Commission following the method of Jesus (Matt 28:18-20). If the church seeks to be successful, it should follow the method of Jesus in discipling.

Abstract:
If we establish that the meaning of theosis is to become like God through the process of becoming like Christ, and if the goal of discipleship is to become like Christ, then it becomes evident that these two concepts are closely related. The article briefly explains the concepts of discipleship and theosis, and the most common evangelical discipleship setting (one-on-one or small group). Then it suggests four modules for teaching theosis in a discipleship setting: created to be Godlike, Godlikeness lost, restoring Godlikeness, and becoming fully Godlike. This model brings together theosis and discipleship which provides a new and helpful approach for raising Christlike/Godlike disciples.

Abstract:
The usage of the terms “disciple” and “discipleship” are very common among Evangelical Christians and the meanings of these terms seem self-evident. However, although these circles adopted such language, it was already present in the Jewish culture of Jesus’ time. The purpose and the goal of this article is to analyze the concept of discipleship in its original context and see how much the meaning of this term is removed from the meaning that this term has today. This topic we will address in two parts. In the first part, we studied the Old Testament (OT) roots of discipleship and the Jewish educational system in Jesus’ time and analyzed whether Jesus himself, and in what measure, passed through that Jewish educational system and how and in what ways he used this model in the discipleship process of his disciples. In this part of the article, we will address the practice of discipleship in the first Church, and after that offer some guidelines on how to apply Jesus’ concept of discipleship in the Church today. The key focus of this article is the problematic of applying principles of discipleship that were present in the context of Jewish culture, on the Church today, since our analysis reveals that understanding of discipleship today does not correspond entirely to the understanding of that concept in Jesus’ time. Although discipleship then and now contained passing on information, it was more important to follow the rabbi and learn from him in a close relationship. It is concluded that a possible solution for this challenge must be sought first and foremost in the change of thinking about what discipleship truly is (change of focus), and then in the practice through mentoring or working in small groups purposefully expose both sides (both “teachers” and “students”) to the experience of teaching through example.

Abstract:
There is a fundamental difference between being a disciple and being a follower. There are no shortcuts to high-quality Christianity. This noble goal can only be achieved through the process of discipleship. The outreach and discipleship practiced today should reflect on what is written in the Bible. The examples of discipleship in Scripture should be the pattern of discipleship in the post-modern era. This is what drives the implementation of this research (as an urgency). God's Word applies to all generations, so there must be a breakthrough to find relevance with what’s stated in the Bible. The goal of this writing should reflect on what is written in the Bible for the church to make discipleship as the main strategy in triggering congregational growth, in quality and subsequently quantity growth. Church cannot be satisfied with the overflowing number of visitors at Sunday services. Nor by the grandeur church building, which is indeed the main attraction. A good and proper reason for church satisfaction is the growth born of the discipleship as stated in the Bible. Therefore, it is necessary to design discipleship processes towards life-changing repentance based on simple materials and natural guidance in the community.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the spiritual activities of Christians in Indonesia. However, various restrictions that have arisen due to the pandemic have not stopped church leaders from carrying out their ministry, including discipleship. March 2020 to September 2021, various studies have been carried out using various research methods to discuss discipleship during the pandemic. Thus, this research aims to conduct an extensive review on discipleship during pandemic era in Indonesia from 2020 to 2021 focuses on the model, criteria of teacher, and size of discipleship recommendations. This research used a systematic review method from previous research results that were inventoried and analyzed systematically in a synthesis. The search resulted in 20 articles from various journals, which were then filtered into 12 articles focus on discussing the model, teacher criteria, and discipleship size in Indonesia during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the analysis, it is concluded that family and cell group-based discipleship models, taught by the parents and church servants, with a slender size (one-on-one and one-to-many with maximum 12 of size) are most recommended to be applied in this pandemic era. All type of discipleship must have an orientation towards completing the Great Commission.

Abstract:
The development and progression of Christianity for more than two thousand years has created many variations in terms of views regarding how to run a church and do discipleship. As a result, there are many debates and frictions when people of different backgrounds and demographics meet as fellow workers in local churches. There are different opinions about how discipleship should be done, from a wide range of backgrounds and scales of local churches whose number of members vary. This paper is written with the purpose of examining several principles of discipleship that Jesus demonstrated in the gospels, as well as seeing their implications for churches in the modern era. This paper discusses the definition of biblical discipleship, and how the initiation for discipleship should come from the disciple maker. When discipleship is forced, there will be discomfort that needs to be embraced in the process. In serving, a disciple maker should take the posture of a servant, not a superintendent, towards the disciple and be involved in the life of the disciple to share life with him or her.

The paper explores “discipleship” in the discipline of “Building up the local church”. The empirical research indicates a perceived difference in what it means to be a disciple and what it means to be a Christian with the increasing belief that discipleship is an optional extra to the Christian calling and even a “higher form” of Christian development. The causes of nominal Christianity within Methodism and how this has resulted in a misunderstanding of true discipleship are considered. The paper opens a way forward for the local church to overcome nominal Christianity and to enable the process of making disciples and practising discipleship.

This paper is an attempt to provide a systematic perspective on J. I. Packer’s theology of discipleship based on a descriptive, analytical, and critical methodology of theological investigation. Various references to discipleship in Packer’s Knowing God (1973, the 2021 edition) were identified, analyzed, and contextualized to demonstrate six features of Christian discipleship (knowledge of Christ, zeal for Christ, spiritual adoption, spiritual realism, biblical anticipation, turning the world upside down) in conjunction with two fundamental aspects (Christ’s personal impact and keeping God’s commandments, the “two pillars” of discipleship) that constitute its foundation and were extracted from his Keeping the Ten Commandments (2008) and Concise Theology: A Guide to Historical Christian Beliefs (2011). The article shows how the six theological features of discipleship, and its two pillars are used by Packer to put together a contemporary Christian spirituality.

Abstract:
The word “discipleship” carries different meanings depending on the context in which it is used. Holistic community provides a natural environment in which people can learn cognitively, emotionally, and behaviorally. In this way, discipling in the context of community (small groups) enhances and strengthens behaving and believing, as well as belonging. Additionally, a deeper understanding of the three-fold revelation of God (i.e., the Triune God, who is by nature a communal, relational God) helps us better understand how holistic small groups foster the growth and support of believers, encouraging them to bring others into God’s family. The way the members of the Trinity relate to each other is a model of the very essence of discipleship. While other elements of church life are important to discipleship, it is specifically through/ within holistic small groups that disciples are created, grown, transformed, and multiplied. Three elements (colors) of discipleship necessary for real-life discipleship are suggested: teaching, mentoring, and modeling.

Abstract:
Discipleship today has again become a principal concern, was greeted with positive and implemented practically in the Lord's church, including the church-based mandarin which will be the object of research journal. However the fact is, after going through a preliminary study in the form of informal conversations with some of the Servants of the Lord and of the Assembly representing some church-based mandarin, the authors noticed that even though discipleship approved by a majority of the Servant of the Lord as an important thing that must be done, however there are still many of the church who have not done it in a concrete way in real life. Seminar after seminar and training for the sake of training has been held, in great demand and was followed by thousands of people from dozens of even hundreds of church, however only a handful of the church has been run in real time and sustainable. Considering the importance of discipleship which is the great mission of Jesus, not just an option or optional, even though there are many aspects that can be examined in the subject of discipleship, the authors will focus his research on the obstacles that may arise in the implementation of discipleship practically in the church, in particular that based on mandarin. Therefore, the authors wanted to examine further, the first about the essence of discipleship itself, and continued with research on the constraints, obstacles and challenges that make this discipleship can't be implemented in churches, in particular that based mandarin where the author to worship and serve.

The cultural situation of the church in the United Kingdom is useful for framing questions emerging more broadly for the western church and discipleship formation. After briefly considering secularism, the paper considers themes of discipleship. This is accompanied by an argument for schools of discipleship and radical formation. The outworking of this in a particular setting in higher education describes some of the tensions inherent in practicing Christian theology in public and increasingly secular settings.

Abstract:
Everyone believe is called to be a disciple by Christ. Christianity without discipleship is Christianity without Christ. Departing from this statement, it is understood that, only by becoming a disciple of Christ can one become a light or witness of Christ in the world and lead others to Christ. The true Christian life, is not meant to simply accept Jesus as Savior, attend church services, read the Bible, pray, talk about Jesus, but also is intended to represent God and demonstrate the lifestyle of God's kingdom on earth. So true Christians are disciples of Jesus Christ. Because of the importance of that discipleship, students are mentioned 269 times in the New Testament, which refers to individuals who are jointly committed to following Jesus Christ. The purpose of this research is to provide discipleship services for Christian prisoners at Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Cipinang Jakarta Timur. As a result of this research that after this discipleship was held Christian convicts at Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Cipinang Jakarta Timur had a Christlike character, had hope in Christ, could multiply discipleship.

Abstract:
In the scriptures it is clear that Mary was chosen by God to conceive and give birth to Jesus, the Son of God. This special role is both a gift and a task that Mary received in the complete obedience of faith. She listens to the word of God and carries it out with the spirituality of the servant and disciple. Many studies on Mary highlight aspect of motherhood and servant spirituality. Meanwhile, the dimension of Mary's discipleship has received less attention. So this research explores the spirit of Mary’s discipleship in the texts of the scriptures. The aspect of Mary's discipleship is then reviewed for its relevance to today’s followers of Christ (disciples). The bibliography method was used in this research process to find and formulate a synthesis of Mary's discipleship as an inspiration for Church discipleship. The results of the research show that Mary was not only a mother of Jesus and a spiritual mother for Christ’s followers, but also a true disciple, and a role model of discipleship for Church in all ages.

"With the current state of discipleship, congregations can no longer afford to rely on their church-centered programs as their main means of growing disciples. Programs do not disciple people; people disciple people. Becoming authentic communities who create intentional spaces where believers of all ages and stages in their faith journey can effectively and meaningfully connect with one another and with God, grow spiritually, and reach out to the world around them is of vital importance in urban discipleship. With the imperative to share the gospel in the cities, urban congregations need to objectively do their own discipleship reality assessment in light of Jesus’ example and command. A thoughtful assessment of the gap between Jesus’ intention and current practices will help them make necessary adjustments to their approach to discipleship."

Abstract:
This article applies Bonhoeffer’s description of Christian discipleship to research literature on military culture and costs of military service. Bonhoeffer’s theological understanding of discipleship illustrates a calling, subordination, obedience, discipline, loyalty, mission focus and the cost thereof, and a collectivistic approach. These are commonly understood as core features of military communal life and service. This article suggests that service members may have a certain cultural disposition which resonates to Bonhoeffer’s teachings of discipleship. Christian communities may serve as cultural platforms capable of assisting veterans in transition from military to civilian life and supporting their reintegration into society. Additionally, veterans may reinvigorate Christian discipleship by bringing these closer to the teachings of Bonhoeffer which may work in the service of renewed commitment and devotion. This could serve the larger society; it may have a positive influence upon communal life as well as the individual.

Commonly prescribed vocational discipleship strategies have been devoid of teaching methods specifically designed for engaging the imagination. To fill this methodological gap, the author developed the 4D-R method for imagining the future and conducted a qualitative study to understand adult evangelical Christians' experience of the method. The findings indicate that the 4D-R method for imagining the future could be a useful strategy for vocational discipleship, particularly in the area of vocational discernment. The findings further suggest a relationship between common vocational discipleship strategies and the 4D-R method for imagining the future.
