Geopolitical voice of the postcolonial landscape. The image of an autobiographical space in the works of Taras Prokhasko The aim of the article is to analyze the components of the autobiographical space, which can be found in Taras Prokhasko’s essay Discours de cosaques, with particular reference to the categories of space, memory, and trauma. The author will explore how Prokhasko builds a relationship between memory and space in the context of identity formation strategies that place this text in the geophysical creation of a Place. Taking into consideration the postcolonial approach will allow the author to look at the essay as a realization of the author’s strategy, part of which fits into the postcolonial discourse of Ukrainian literature and, more broadly, the literature of Central and Eastern Europe. The author will focus on Prokhasko’s recognition of the provincial motif closely linked to the national perspective.Геопоэтический голос постколониального ландшафта. Образ автобиографического места в творчестве Тараса ПрохаськоЦелью статьи является анализ компонентов автобиографического места, образ которого представлен в эссе Discours de cosaques Т. Прохасько. Особенное внимание посвящено категориям пространства, памяти и травмы. Анализируемый текст зачислен в ряд геопоэтических образов Места, поэтому авторские приемы рассмотрены с точки зрения художественного оформления отношений между памятью и пространством в контексте идентификационных стратегий. Применение постколониальныого подхода позволило также выделить и подвергнуть разбору авторские стратегии, часть которых вписывается к постколониальный дискурс украинской литературы, и шире — литературы Центрально-Восточной Европы. Особенное внимание уделено авторской реализации мотива провинции, которая тесно связанна с общенациональной перспективой.

The present contribution is centred on some aspects of postcolonial (and even, in a large sense, colonial, since we take into account online documents from the Spanish presidios on the Mediterranean coast as well) discours formations in the Spanish-language blogosphere. While discourses focused on postcolonial topics in French blogs have already been analyzed (Torterat, forthcoming), investigations of a similar orientation do not seem to have been carried out on our research object.

La première partie du texte aborde la génèse du féminisme postcolonial à partir des écrits de Gayatri Spivak, Chandra Talpade Mohanty et Uma Narayan. Dans la seconde partie, l’auteure discute de la figure centrale à l’oeuvre dans le féminisme québécois, marqué au cours des années 60 par le récit politique de l’oppression nationale. Selon son analyse, cet héritage a permis au féminisme québécois d’occulter le difficile exercice d’identifier les rapports de pouvoir entre les femmes de la majorité et les autres femmes.

S'inscrivant dans une perspective à la fois interdisciplinaire et interdiscursive, cette étude établit un rapports entre Mythe (élément anthropologique) et littérature - relevant de la création - (discours postcolonial). Ce rapport, en se basant sur le mythe en tant que référentiel ancré principalement dans l'inconscient d'une communauté et transcendant les différences tant sociétales qu'historiques est appréhendé en tant que dénominateur commun des discours littéraires développés par les écrivains postcoloniaux réunis dans un corpus très diversifié et représentatif des différentes situations postcoloniales. On y retrouve en effet Maurice Bandaman (Le Fils de-la-femme-mâle), Achebe Chinua (Le Monde s'effondre), Nadine Gordimer (Un Monde d'étrangers), Tahar Ben Jelloun (La Nuit sacrée), Salman Rushdie (Les Versets sataniques) et Patrick Chamoiseau (Les Neuf Consciences du Malfini). L'outil d'investigation sollicité est principalement la mythocritique, dont les approches incarnées respectivement par Pierre Brunel et Gilbert Durand se voient sollicitées tant dans leur communauté d'orientation que dans leur complémentarité réciproque. Aussi, d'un point de vue de la pensée postcoloniale, la confrontation des « maîtres » colons et de « l'autochtone humilié » telle que l'évoque Hubert Félix Thiéfaine est l'opposition essentielle autour de laquelle s'est construite notre démarche. Ce travail est ainsi périodiquement ponctué par d'autres citations de Thiéfaine qui offrent un contrepoint évocateur aux réflexions développées dans les différents chapitres. Il s'agit alors de déterminer dans quelle mesure l'incorporation du mythe apparaît comme un élément obligé de la constitution d'un discours postcolonial, la substitution de celui-ci au discours colonial s'articulant à travers le recours à un legs mythique qui combine réappropriations du legs culturel véhiculé par le colonisateur et renouvellement du fonds mythique local, avec des accentuations différentes selon la localisation du texte et de son auteur en Afrique noire, au Maghreb ou en Inde. On aboutit ainsi tant à la constatation de divergences marquantes dans le choix des éléments mythiques à privilégier qu'au diagnostic d'une convergence des modalités de leur sollicitation dans le discours postcolonial, dont ils constituent dans tous les cas étudiés un ingrédient essentiel. Ainsi est-il apparu que plusieurs éléments afférents au mythe manifestent leur présence dans les textes littéraires postcoloniaux qui ont fait office de terrain d'analyse dans le cadre de notre étude. Il s'agit notamment de symboles et mythèmes qui ont plus d'un rapport avec la résurgence de figures mythiques anciennes, marquant leur éternel retour. En dehors de ces structures symboliques, l'exploitation des textes a montré qu'en contexte postcolonial, les figures mythiques telles que celles de Prométhée et de Dionysos sont des configurations d'images plausibles qui de par la rupture entre elles opèrent une sorte de transition dans la transmission des valeurs et systèmes de pensée qu'elles véhiculent et qui sous-tendent du même coup les faits colonial et postcolonial. Après analyse des catégories fondamentales dans les romans de notre corpus, il convient de souligner un dynamisme de ces catégories romanesques commandé par le contexte postcolonial qui lui-même subit le dynamisme des structures mythiques qui sous-tendent la pensée des peuples et qui subséquemment constituent le substrat des créations littéraires et artistiques qui sont en accord avec les préoccupations du moment. Dès lors, notre étude postule, in fine, la possibilité d'un discours mythique commun à ces textes. Il s'agit d'une projection d'imaginaires de la transition en contexte postcolonial s'enracinant dans l'eschatologie pour déboucher sur de nouvelles cosmogonies<br>Based on an interdisciplinar and interdiscursive perspective, this study creates a relationship between Myth as an anthropological element and Literature - falling as such in the category of creation - in the form of postcolonial discourse. By considering myth as a framework having its origin in the inconscious background of a human community and being as such able to transcend both societal and historical differences, this relationship is described as a common denominator of the literary discourses practized by the postcolonial writers who are brought together, building so a wide-ranged corpus that reflects the different postcolonial situations. We find here Maurice Bandaman (The Son of the Male Woman), Chinua Achebe (Things Fall Apart), Nadine Gordimer (A World of Strangers), Tahar Ben Jelloun (The Sacred Night), Salman Rushdie (The Satanic Verses) and Patrick Chamoiseau (The Malfini's Nine Consciences). The most used investigative tool is the mythocritical approach, especially represented by the studies of Pierre Brunel and Gilbert Durand taken into account both in their common research orientation and in their reciprocal complementarity. From the perspective of postcolonial world view, our approach is focused of the essential antagonism that consists in the confrontation between « masters » (i.e. the colonists) and the « humiliated autochton » described by Hubert Félix Thiéfaine. In the same way, this study is periodically punctuated by other quotes from Thiéfaine's texts, which provide a suggestive counterpoint to the views exposed in the different chapters. One has to determine to what extent the incorporation of mythical elements actually appears as a key part by the emergence of a postcolonial discourse, while the shift from colonial to postcolonial discourse occurs through the recourse to a mythical legacy which combines reappropriations of the cultural legacy brought by the colonisators and renewal of the local mythic background, in this case with differents accentuations depending on the localisation of the text and its author in Black Africa, Maghreb or India. The recognition of significant divergences concerning the selection of the most important mythical elements goes in fact hand in hand with a large similarity in the treatment modalities concerning their integration in the poscolonial discourse, of which they are an essential part in all the cases studied. Several elements belonging to the mythical domain appear thus to be present in the poscolonial literary texts analysed in the present study. We find in particular symbols and mythems related to the resurgence of very old mythical figures and revealing in this way their eternal return. Apart from those symbolical structures, the investigation of the texts shows that mythical figures like Prometheus or Dionysos appear in postcolonial context as acceptable configurations of representations whose disruptive potentialities contain the possibility of a transition in the transmission of the values and systems of thoughts they convey and that underlie in the same way both the colonial and postcolonial facts. The investigation of the main categories in the novels building our corpus allows to describe the specific dynamics inherent to those novelistic categories and determined by the postcolonial context, which stays itself under the influence of the dynamics inherent to the mythical structures that underlies the thinking of people and also appears as the substrate of the literary and artistic achievements which are in touch with current concerns of our time. Henceforth our study postulates as a last result the presence of a mythical discourse common to all those texts. It appears as a projection of imaginary representations of transition in postcolonial context, grounded in eschatology and tending to the emergence of new cosmologies

<p>This study focuses on the different strategies that the author uses to subvert the patriarchal and the colonial discourses which are reflected in the novel "Les Honneurs perdus" of Calixthe Beyala. In the introduction a theoretical background is given which includes feminist and postcolonial literary theories and their relation to postmodern theories and deconstruction. The introduction underlines the importance of the constitution of subject in postcolonial and feminist theories in contrast to deconstruction of subject in postmodernism and poststructuralism.</p><p>The analysis demonstrates that the novel can be seen as a female bildungsroman in the protagonist’s intent to create an autonomous identity. A gynocentric writing and the dialogue with another female character, the heroine’s antagonistic double, which includes the possibility of a female genealogy, as well as the final love to a white man, contribute essentially to transculturation and the construction of the heroine’s hybrid identity.</p><p>The second chapter of the analysis shows that the dichotomies Europe–Africa and man–woman in the binary system of the western way of thinking are very marked in the novel. Finally the third chapter points out how the different narrative techniques like the mixing of different language levels, the creation of new words, the use of irony and carnivalation, a special form of parody, as well as the intertextuality of magic realism deconstruct and subvert the heritage of colonial and patriarchal values and demonstrate the post-colonial misery both in the protagonist’s native suburb in Cameroun and in Paris.</p>

La traduction postcoloniale de la littérature africaine europhone ne saurait s’inscrire dans le contexte colonial à proprement parler, où la traduction pouvait directement servir les intérêts de la colonisation. Les années 60 marquent la transition entre le discours du roman colonial, dimension essentielle du discours hégémonique occidental sur l’espace colonial africain, et celui du roman africain moderne. Si ce changement de perspective se reflète sur la traduction, celle de la littérature africaine reste le fait d’instances énonciatrices majoritairement occidentales. Or, le discours occidental sur l’altérité africaine s’étant constitué en un savoir qui subsiste à ce jour sous une forme ou une autre (rémanences), on peut s’interroger sur le positionnement d’une traduction occidentale de la littérature africaine postcoloniale par rapport à ce savoir dont la crise a présidé à l’éclosion de cette littérature anticoloniale qu’elle se propose de promouvoir. Autrement dit, la traduction occidentale de la littérature africaine postcoloniale est-elle à l’abri des représentations coloniales qui ont au fils des années voire des siècles façonné le regard de l’Occident sur l’Afrique?
Pour aborder cette question, la traduction est posée ici, au-delà des considérations d’ordre linguistique et culturel – notamment l’hybridation de la langue d’écriture par les valeurs culturelles africaines – en termes de rapport à l’altérité. Dans une approche descriptive, les traductions française, anglaises et allemandes d’œuvres africaines représentatives de la postcolonialité ont été respectivement examinées dans une perspective comparative.
Plus que de juger un acte de promotion de la littérature africaine au sein du canon universel, il faut d’abord voir ici l’occasion de revisiter le cadre théorique d’une traduction de soi, par opposition à une traduction de l’autre, la littérature africaine postcoloniale se définissant elle-même comme une écriture de soi, non pas en termes d’opposition binaire, mais bien dans une perspective hybride. Car, au-delà de sa dimension politique, la littérature africaine europhone assume la double identité propre à la postcolonialité.

Ce travail propose une étude de l'enseignement/apprentissage du créole et du français en milieu scolaire haïtien en partant du double point de vue épistémologique et historique. Du point de vue épistémologique, il entend montrer les failles de la perspective adoptée par la majorité des linguistes qui ont travaillé sur ce thème. En envisageant l'écriture comme simple transcription de l'oral, ces linguistes ignorent les difficultés que pose l'entrée du créole haïtien dans les domaines de l'écriture et de la scolarisation. Une instabilité de la définition des concepts grammaticaux et une vision univoque de l'expression en créole sont les deux conséquences qui découlent de cette conception. Si les démarches contrastives veulent rapprocher créole et français sur le plan syntaxique, elles laissent toujours de côté le problème discursif et textuel. Livrés à eux-mêmes, les auteurs de manuels et les enseignants n'osent pas se détacher de la tradition. Du point de vue historique, nous montrons que l'école haïtienne hérite du modèle de l'école française de la fin du XIXe et du début du XXe siècle. Cet héritage consiste en un réseau interdiscursif et intertextuel complexe. ignoré, ce réseau est le socle sur lequel s'appuient 85% d'enseignants sans formation initial. En répétant les discours et textes disponibles, ces enseignants véhiculent, inconsciemment, des contradictions qui font barrage aux ambitions communicationnelles envisagées par les reformes scolaires. A partir de ce double constat, cette étude propose d'effectuer un tournant vers une nouvelle conception de l'appropriation de l'écrit et de l'oral. Cette démarche prend en considération les incidents anthropologiques de l'écriture et les exigences de l'agir communicationnel. Plusieurs pistes ont été dégagées. La principale consiste en une orientation sociodiscursive des recherches sur le créole Haïtien<br>This work proposes a study of the teaching and learning of French and Creole in Haitian schools starting from the points of view of history and epistemology. From the epistemological point of view, it entends to show the limitations of the approach taken by most linguists who have worked in this area. Considering writing as simple transcription of the the spoken, theses linguists ignoe the difficulties posed by the adoption of Haitian Creole into the fields of literacy and education. A lack of consistency in the definition of grammatical concepts and a singular vision of the phrase in Creole are the two consequences that flow from this approach. If the comparative approach wishes to relate Creole and French on the syntactic level, they always leave aside the discursive and textual problematic. left to themselves, textbook writers and teachers do not dare to break away form tradition. From the historical point of view, we show that the Haitian school model inherits its principals from the French school of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This legacy consists of a complex interdiscursive and intertextual network. Generally ignored, this network is nonetheless the basis on which 85% of teachers without training rely. By repeating the speeches and texts available, theses teachers convey unconsciously, contradictions that are blocking the communicational goals envisaged by the reform school. From these two observations, this study proposes to turn to a new concept of ownership of the written and oral. This approach takes into account the impact of anthropological writing and the requirements of communicational action. Several directions haven benn suggested. La mémoire occupe une place importante, tant dans les sociétés en générale que dans la littérature en particulier où elle est devenue une référence obligée, une exigence éthique et poétique pour comprendre le passé. Depuis quelques décennies déjà les questions liées à la mémoire reviennent de plus en plus sur la scène littéraire et politique. Dans cette optique, la présente thèse tente de réfléchir sur l’écriture de la mémoire envisagée dans une perspective postcoloniale à travers le roman historique contemporain. Le titre et le débat qu’il soulève mettent en relation les littératures algérienne, congolaise et haïtienne dans le but d’analyser la représentation du passé dans quatre romans : La Femme sans sépulture de Assia Djebar, Le Lys et le Flamboyant de Henri Lopes, Rosalie l’Infâme de Évelyne Trouillot et Ombres dansantes ou le zombie, c’est moi de Hans Christoph Buch. L’omniprésence de la thématique de la mémoire dans ces romans et l’enchevêtrement des faits de l’Histoire et des destins particuliers des personnages invitent à une approche comparatiste. Cette approche est adoptée ici en tant qu’elle nourrit un regard réflexif sur les pratiques culturelles des sociétés algérienne, congolaise et haïtienne. Cette étude a le dessein de poser d’abord, les fondements théoriques des notions et concepts de mémoire, de postcolonialisme en procédant à leur exégèse. Ensuite, elle examine la représentation du passé dans les espaces culturels africain et caribéen à travers les oeuvres sélectionnées. Et enfin, elle construit une poétique de la mémoire postcoloniale dans le roman historique contemporain. Sur fond d’une réécriture de l’Histoire, se dessine ici les contours d’un ensemble de pratiques auctoriales qui s’inscrivent dans une revisitation permanente des récits de l'historiographie<br>The Memory has an important place, in our societies in general as well in literature, particularly where it became an unavoidable reference, an ethical and poetic requirement to have a better understanding of our past. For decades yet the questions related to our memory increasingly come back on the political and literary scene. This thesis intends to reflect on the writing of Memory considered in a postcolonial perspective through the historical contemporary novel. The title and thedebate raised put in relation the Algerian, Congolese and Haitian literature in the aim to analyse the representation of the past with the following novels The Woman without sepulcher from Assia Djebar, The Lily and Flamboyant from Henri Lopes, The Infamous Rosalie from Évelyne Trouillot and Dancing shadows or zombi, it’s me from Hans Christoph Buch. The omnipresence of the theme of memory in these four novels and the entanglement of the facts of the History and the particular draws of the characters presented invite to a comparative approach. This approach is adopted here so it canfeed a reflexive look on the cultural practices of the Algerian, Congolese and Haitian societies. This study has the goal to first display the theoretical foundations of Memory notions and concepts, from postcolonialism proceeding to their exegesis. Then, it examines the representation of the past in the African and Caribbean culturals spaces through their selected artwork. Finally, it builds a poetic of the postcolonial memory in the historical contemporary novel. Painted like a rewriting of the History, appear here the outlines of a whole series of auctorial practices entering in a permanent new twist of the Historiography texts

En procédant à une analyse minutieuse de la littérature allemande à partir de 1960, année des indépendances africaines par excellence, textes hétérogènes dans le fond comme dans la forme, mélangeant fiction et réalité, nous nous faisons l'écho du réquisitoire sévère dressé par certains auteurs contre la marginalisation de l'Afrique. Ce discours subversif dépasse les frontières d'un dialogue à caractère bilatéral (Afrique/Allemagne) et prend la forme d'un "trialogue" (Allemagne/Afrique/France). Les textes émanant du discours postcolonial que nous mettons ainsi en évidence sont une véritable offensive contre la violence verbale de la littérature coloniale. Tout en répondant au besoin d'affirmation de la germanistique africaine comme science indépendante, notre analyse incarne par la même occasion l'ouverture qui détermine désormais la germanistique allemande classique<br>A detailed analysis of the German literature, starting with the year 1960, when many African states gained independence, that includes heterogeneous texts in content and form, mixing fiction and reality, reflects a strong accusation of certain German authors against the marginalization of Africa. This subversive discourse extends beyond the limitations of a bilateral dialogue (Africa/ Germany) by taking the form of a "trialogue" (Germany/ Africa/ France). The texts, originating from the postcolonial discourse, evidently represent a clear offence to the verbal violence in colonial literature. Motivée par l’enjeu de la construction du sujet basée sur ses rencontres littéraires, nous nous intéressons aux objets littéraires qu’on prescrit dans le cursus scolaire en Guyane. En rapport avec l’objectif général de cette discipline qui vise la formation du citoyen, nous nous sommes interrogée sur l’opportunité d’accorder au lycée, du moins dans ce contexte, une place plus conséquente aux constructions littéraires basées sur une intelligibilité régionale. Sur ce territoire, l’archétype du sujet moderne, stable et homogène, proposé par l’école et qui légitime la transmission d’une culture nationale génère des situations de décalages que le sujet apprenant a à gérer. Actuellement, dans une société reconfigurée par les migrations massives de la fin du XXe siècle, la conjonction de référents traditionnels, issus d’une culture primaire, superposés aux discours médiatiques ambiants, multiplie les effets de ces écarts. Nous postulons que soumettre aux lycéens de cette région des objets littéraires qui traitent de discours sur le pays et des attitudes citoyennes liées à celui-ci leur permet de mobiliser des ressources pertinentes qu’ils peuvent réinvestir dans leur parcours d’apprenant. Le cadre théorique de l’étude concerne, en matière de constructions citoyennes, l’enjeu de la transmission de la littérature dans cette région, le cadre historique et éducatif qui y est associé, le concept de littérature guyanaise et la mise en relation avec les théories de la réception littéraire et les questionnements scientifiques qu’elles impliquent. Sur la base d’une lecture libre proposée aux élèves et centrée sur un corpus d’écrivains guyanais, il est question en termes d’analyse de discours d’évaluer la pertinence d’une telle proposition. La méthodologie envisagée repose sur une analyse qualitative des données recueillies. Cette approche épistémologique se veut essentiellement exploratoire, descriptive voire évolutive en fonction des cas de figure rencontrés<br>Motivated by the challenge of the human being’s construction based on the individual reading experience we focused our analysis onregional literature material recommended by the Guyanese State Department of Education. In connection with the general objective of the course of Literature which seeks the education of the citizen we questioned the opportunity to offer high school students, at least in this context, a larger exposure to regional literature that corresponds to their familiar environment and living experience. In French Guiana, the archetype of the modern, stable and homogeneous individual as an academic requirement legitimating the transmission of national culture generates most of the time offset situations that the learner subject has to manage. Nowadays, in a society reconfigured by massive migrations of the late twentieth century, the combination of traditional referents from a primary culture superimposed to the global media speech increases the consequences of those differences. In our opinion, students from French Guiana involved in regional literature that deals with a realistic approach of the society and with a reflection about civism are certainly more able to mobilize the relevant resources that they will reinvest in their personal learning process. The theoretical framework of our purpose is related, in terms of civic training, to the issue of transmission of literature as well as to the historical and educational context associated with it that also include the concept of Guyanese literature and the relation with the theories of literary reception and the scientific questions they imply. On the basis of a free reading offered to students and focused on a Guyanese writer’s corpus we intended, in terms of discourse analysis, to assess the relevance of this proposal. Our methodology is based on a qualitative analysis of collected data. This epistemological approach is essentially explorary, descriptive or progressive depending on the situations encountered

The subject of this thesis is the contemporary literature written by the sons and daughters of North African immigrant families in France. Its main area of investigation is the place of this literature in the French literary field, in the Bourdieusian sense of the term, and the discursive features which motivate the ethnic based label of “Beur literature”. The study has a double approach in investigating both the argument for the socio-ethnic categorisation, and the reception of this literature in the French press. The literary corpus consists of twenty works from 2005 and 2006 by eighteen Beur writers. Thirteen of these works are subject to literary analysis. These are novels by Akli Tadjer, Zahia Rahmani, Faïza Guène, Mabrouck Rachedi, El Driss, Mohamed Razane, Houda Rouane, Nora Hamdi, Nor Eddine Boudjedia and Touhami Moualek, and three autobiographical narratives written by Razika Zitouni, Abel El Quandili and Aziz Senni. The press corpus from the corresponding period covers 14 titles of French national and regional daily papers, 8 titles of weekly general press and 6 titles of periodicals of literary and social debate. According to my hypothesis, the Beur fiction and the autobiographical narratives of my corpus are based on a common discourse that is expressed through certain literary means. A frequent strategy found in the novels is the subversion of French classics. Another feature is the constant referral to the French republican values. The novels share the latter of these two strategies with the autobiographical stories. This can be interpreted as resulting from a communication between a literary discourse and a social discourse which points toward a common ideological foundation. It also reveals the specific “Frenchness” of a literature that is often classified as “francophone” rather than “French” literature. The study of the journalistic reception confirms this aspect by the frequent referral of its authors to their ethnic and social origins.

This thesis, situated in the context of francophone and maghrebian postcolonial studies, examines the impact of identity discourses on the protagonists’ subjectivity in Assia Djebar’s La Femme sans sépulture (2002) and La Disparition de la langue française (2003) and Nina Bouraoui’s Garçon manqué (2000) and Mes mauvaises pensées (2005). These novels draw a parallel between two historically connected spaces, France and Algeria, and periods, the years of the Algerian war of independence and the rise of Islamists in 1990s Algeria. The movement between the two spaces and periods constitutes in a literal and figurative sense a third space that contributes to the protagonist’s hybridisation. Hybridity is analysed as a narrative and discursive strategy that subverts and recodifies different identity discourses that transmit normative ideas about cultural, ethnic and gendered belonging. Hybridity is also shown in the literary genre. By connecting the past and the present through individual and collective reminiscence, the four novels reinterpret history while transgressing the frontiers of classical genres: the fictional, the testimonial and the autobiographical intertwine with the historiographical. Through the character of the narrator-cineaste and the story of Zoulikha, Assia Djebar reconstitutes in La Femme sans sépulture her own heritage and that of the interviewed women which is associated with Luce Irigaray’s theory of feminine genealogy as a model of identification. The languages’ different transcultural influences are shown in La Disparition de la langue française in the light of Homi Bhabha’s theory of cultural translation. Bouraoui’s fiction shows more radically than Djebar’s the body as a surface of cultural inscription, determined by ethnic and gendered norms. To emphasize the sociocultural dimension of the Bouraouian protagonist’s problems of identity the analysis uses Judith Butler’s theories about the performativity, the recognition and the melancholy of gender. In the four novels the return to one’s origins remains an illusion. The only place where the protagonists can negotiate and express their hybrid subjectivity is constituted in and through their writing.<br>Cette thèse, située dans le contexte des études francophones maghrébines et postcoloniales, analyse l’impact des discours identitaires sur la subjectivité des protagonistes dans La Femme sans sépulture (2002) et La Disparition de la langue française (2003) d’Assia Djebar, et dans Garçon manqué (2000) et Mes mauvaises pensées (2005) de Nina Bouraoui. Ces romans mettent en parallèle deux espaces historiquement liés, la France et l’Algérie, et deux périodes, le temps de la guerre d’indépendance algérienne et les années 1990 avec la montée des islamistes en Algérie. Le mouvement entre les deux espaces et temps constitue au sens littéral et au sens figuré un tiers espace, qui contribue à l’hybridation des protagonistes. L’hybridité est analysée comme une stratégie narrative et discursive qui subvertit et récodifie différents discours identitaires véhiculant des idées normatives concernant l’appartenance culturelle, ethnique et genrée des protagonistes. L’hybridation se reflète également dans le genre littéraire. À travers la remémoration individuelle et collective des événements passés mis en rapport avec le présent, les quatre romans donnent une nouvelle signification à l’Histoire en transgressant les frontières entre les genres classiques : le fictionnel, le témoignage et l’autobiographique s’inscrivent dans l’historiographique. Moyennant le personnage de la narratrice-cinéaste et l’histoire de Zoulikha, Djebar reconstitue dans La Femme sans sépulture, son propre héritage et celle des femmes interviewées, ce qui est associé à la théorie de Luce Irigaray sur la généalogie féminine au sens d’un modèle d’identification. Les différentes influences transculturelles des langues sont éclairées dans La Disparition de la langue française à la lumière de la théorie de la traduction culturelle de Homi Bhabha. Bouraoui montre plus radicalement que Djebar le corps comme surface d’inscription culturelle gérée par des normes ethnicisantes et genrées. Pour souligner la dimension socioculturelle des problèmes identitaires de la protagoniste bouraouienne, les théories de Judith Butler concernant la performativité du genre, la reconnaissance et la mélancolie genrée sont utilisées. Le retour à l’origine reste dans les quatre romans illusoire. Le seul lieu où les protagonistes puissent négocier et exprimer leur subjectivité hybride est constitué dans et à travers l’écriture.

В статье рассматриваются особые, постколониалистские аспекты антирабовладельческой аргументации, использовавшейся в ходе дебатов в Конгрессе США по Орегонскому территориальному биллю. Эти аспекты сформировались в политическом сознании американцев, прежде всего в северных штатах, в процессе переосмысления ими своего колониального прошлого и антиколониальной борьбы. Они прозвучали в виде устойчивых идейных обоснований недопущения всякого дальнейшего территориального распространения рабства. Понимание рабства как «проклятого колониального наследия», «позорящего клейма» на светлом облике независимой американской нации и рабовладения как свидетельства постколониальной экономической, цивилизационной отсталости определяющим образом воздействовало на идейное противодействие распространению рабства на новые территории. Идеи спасения национальности чести, обращения и следования революционным идеалам в решающей мере повлияли на антирабовладельческую риторику конгрессменов. The article examines the special, post-colonialist aspects of the anti-slavery argument used during the debates in the US Congress on the Oregon Territorial Bill. These aspects were established in the political consciousness of Americans, primarily in the northern states, in the process of rethinking their colonial past and anti-colonial struggle. They were formulated as stable ideological justifications for preventing any further territorial spread of slavery. The understanding of slavery as a "cursed colonial legacy", a "shameful stigma" on the bright image of an independent American nation and slavery as evidence of postcolonial economic and civilizational backwardness had a decisive effect on the ideological opposition to the spread of slavery to new territories. The ideas of saving the nationality of honor, conversion and following revolutionary ideals decisively influenced the anti-slavery rhetoric of congressmen.

This paper examines Fethullah Gülen’s teaching on interfaith encounters highlighting his dialogic methodology proposed for a globalised world in which Samuel Huntington’s idea of the ‘clash of civilisations’ (Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, 1997) is still prominent. This idea, concludes Gülen, stems from the lack of trust in the religion of the “Other” and, rather often than not, from easily passing over the common points. According to Gülen, dialogue is not a superfluous endeavour, but an imperative (“Dialogue is a must”) and it should start by “Giving precedence to common points”. Gülen holds that the tendency toward factionalism exists within human nature. A meaningful and nonetheless necessary goal, he says, should be to make this tendency non-threatening and even beneficial. To fully appreciate the significance of Gülen’s accomplishments, one must understand the perspec- tive from which he approaches the subject of interfaith dialogue. Based on his thinking as noted above, the purpose of this paper is to set out in some detail the way in which this re- nowned Islamic thinker limits the “domain” of the Otherness (Homi Bhabha, The Location of Culture, 2004; Nation and Narration, 1990) to make dialogue possible through overcom- ing both Orientalism (Edward Said, Orientalism, 1978) and Occidentalism (Ian Buruma and Avishai Margalit, Occidentalism: the West in the Eyes of its Enemies, 2004). Challenging the discourse of conflict and focusing on common points may be an important strategy when mutual suspicions are still prevalent and when the field of postcolonial studies stand witness to conflicting processes of refraction (Patricia Crone, Medieval Islamic Political Thought, 2005; Amin Maalouf, Les Croisades vues par les Arabes, 1986). Those who act according to what they have seen are not as successful as those who act according to what they know. Those who act according to what they know are not as successful as those who act according to their conscience. Based on the above-mentioned landmarks of his viewpoints regarding the representation constructs, the purpose of my paper is to investigate the way in which this renowned Islamic thinker limits the “domain” of the Otherness or dilutes many of the apparently instituted boundaries. My paper starts from the assumption that recognizing the Other on common grounds is a prerequisite of dialogue. The first section of the essay focuses on conceptual frameworks of defining the “relevant” alterity (Orientalism, Balkanism, Occidentalism) and theories of con- flict (models of clashes, competing meta-narratives). The second section looks into identity markers expressed or implied by Sufi thinkers (Al-Ghazali, Rumi, Nursi). The third section discusses Gülen’s awareness with the Other and, consequently (as detailed in the fourth sec- tion) his identification of common grounds for dialogue. To achieve the aim of my study, throughout all the four sections, Gülen will be presented in a textual exchange of ideas with other thinkers and authors.

In the context of the Anthropocene, ecocriticism is gaining an increasingly important role, foregrounding the inextricability of nature and culture, on the one hand, and the postcolonial cultural representation from the Global South on the other. Against this backdrop, the present working paper will focus on the Latin American context, suggesting that conviviality signifies a crucial contribution to the discourse about the Anthropocene and serves as an ideal theoretical framework for the research project on “Postcolonial Resistance and Ecofeminism in the Latin American Jungle novel”, which is outlined at the end of the paper.
