Full textIn the second half of the XIXth century, Romania was in the throes of nation building. This process was not without its upheavals and questionings, which struck the foundations of national consciousness just when it seemed embodied in the modern State. Philosophy then became the natural medium for the expression of this radical and existential questioning about reality and the future of the nation. Junimea was the group of young intellectuals which took on the problem and replied with a deep criticism of the way in which the Western liberal model had been used in 1848 and later to build the Romanian nation. This imported cultural and political model was mere "form without content" and was not adapted to the local realities. But the Junimists' criticism paradoxically used arguments, theories and concepts from the very Western thought movements that had helped shape them. The search for "content" which appeared beneath the criticism was inspired by the philosophy of Kant, Schopenhauer, J. S. Mill and Spencer, and combined traits of romanticism and rationalism, idealism and materialism, evolutionism and the sciences of the time. Maiorescu's criticism, Eminescu's political articles, Conta's materialistic and evolutionist metaphysics, Xenopol's philosophy of history, Rădulescu-Motru's system of "energetic personalism", all these were different ways of rethinking the concept of nation and man's place in a modernity which was already in crisis in late XIXth century Europe. The premisses of the political, cultural and national discourse of the Romanian thinkers would also be those of the Romanian philosophical school of thought

Full textOur doctoral research sets out to clarify how the aromanian-romanian identitary discourse (namely, the one which conceives the Aromanians as members of the Romanian people) has been developed and structured since its origins at the end of the XVIIIth century, until Romanian independence, in 1878.The identitary discourse which concerns us has its origins in the writings of Teodor Anastasie Cavalioti (1770) and Daniel the Moscopolitan (1794). The points conveyed by Constantin Hagi Gehani to Johann Thunmann give to the Aromanian-Romanian identitary discourse its first explicit formulation having reached us (1773). These ideas are taken up and developed in the works of Constantin Ucuta (1797), Gheorghe Constantin Roja (1808, 1809) and Mihail Boiagi (1813). The travel writings of foreign travelers having traversed the Balkans between 1800 and 1860 reveal that the Aromanian-Romanian identitary discourse constitutes a reconfiguration of the Aromanian ethnicity, crafted so as to place this ethnicity in multisymbol congruence with the Romanian nationality of North-Danubian Daco-Romanians. The North-Danubian revolutionaries of 1848 take up the aforementioned discourse. They conceive a plan of political action to be2executed in the Balkans in the name of the ideas upheld by this identitary discourse. The plan is set in motion by the agents of the Aromanian-Romanian movement which takes root in Romania after 1859; the movement registers its first major success in 1878, with the decree of Savfet Pascha – a document which officialises the assimilation of the Aromanian ethnicity – having already been shaped by the Aromanian-Romanian discourse – by the Romanian nationality

Full textOur thesis proposes to analyse a sports-related phenomenon deeply rooted in the social environment – the football – by looking into its linguistic dimension. Our thesis is part of a comparative framework developed at two levels. Thus, a first level aims at a comparison between bilingual corpora made up of commentaries of League 1 football matches (season 2014-2015, in France and in Romania) and of commentaries of football matches of the World Cup in Brazil (2014), in French and in Romanian. These corpora are described by means of the criteria for their selection, collection and constitution. The second level – which constitutes the specificity of our approach – lies in the comparison of the materialities of these corpora : the print newspaper (the traditional newspaper) and the digital one, that is the commentaries of football matches as they appear on the web pages of the sports newspapapers. This double materiality of the corpus calls for a theoretical and analytical approach materialised firstly in a clarification of the notions used in this analysis. The digital is presented in terms of its characteristics, pointing out at the same time its advantages as well as its disadvantages. Secondly, the study extends to the micro-linguistic and textual/discursive level, on the basis of discourse and textual analysis. It is at this level that the different recurring configurations occur in these two types of commentaries, as well as the mechanisms turning football into a generator of emotions and metaphors as a linguistic resource taken over – by borrowing or migration – by other fields and disciplines in order to revive their own language and means of expression. The affiliation of our corpus to the media field constitutes the third level of our study and intends to identify the differences caused by the advent of a new staggering as far as its effects are concerned, both at the level of the newspaper’s architecture and at the level of the paper and digital fragmented commentaries

Full textRomania has witnessed in the last century the recurrence, in various shapes and on multiple voices, of extreme rightwing tendencies. Covering a wide scale, from the interwar social movements such as The Iron Guard, to the post-communist nationalist parties, it shows, if not an inner attraction, then at least a high frequency of the phenomenon.Following this path, we have decided to analyze the discourse of the extreme rightwing, in order to identify the main characteristics of the portrait of the Other. The evolution of this social representation marks the fluctuation of the Self identification based on internal and external factors. By highlighting the bias ruling over the Othering as process, we hope to enlighten the ways in which the socio-cognitive construction of the difference occurs, through the mirroring of the Self.Consequently, the selection of the methodology tools has been made according to the study material: the first two chapters are built on qualitative discourse analysis that tries to reflect the strategies, the arguments and the images used to create the illustrations of the Other. However, the third chapter shifts to the analysis of the Othering as process, aiming at explaining it from various perspectives: historical, political, religious, anthropological and psychological. The purpose of this analysis would be to account for the reasons and the means behind the Othering as phenomenon, in an attempt to better portray not as much the Others, but the Romanians themselves

Full textRecent developments in language research focus not so much on traditional grammar as on the examination of the mental processes the use of language implies, direction approached in the research " Discourse organization plans. The connectors in french and in romanian ". After outlining the itinerary from the grammar-textual projects of the 1970's to the instructional models of the last decade in parallel to the evolution of the concepts of " coherence " and " cohesion ", the author confining this research only to connectors. The overview of the main theoritical or experimental studies concludes with a definition of connectors which does justice to the two particular features of this class of morphemes : categorical heterogeneity and functional homogeneity. From chapter 3 onwards, this study focuses on the discovery of the system of dicursive solidarity represented by connectors through a sequence of practical applications on " mais " and its correspondents in romanian, by means of translation test. What would then be the primary instructional nucleus of the french connector ? And that of its romanian equivalents ? Up to what point can one speak of an equivalence relationship ? In other words, does romanian follow the same mental operations as french ? - These are the questions the author tried to answer. The last part relaunches the discussion with respect to solidarity systems and their interactions. The connectors interact within the sequence they are part of but they also interact with other levels of discourse organization. What follows is a conventionalized game which, far from being deterministic, produces textual convergence or divergence effects that reinforce or decrease the various instructional effects

Full textThe main purpose of the thesis is to describe the institutional structures of the making of the nationalist discourse during the Ceauşescu regime, to establish the social profile of the characters involved in the setting up of this discourse and to analyse its messages, in the goal to understand the social, politic, and cultural results of the nationalist communism on the Romanian society. The first section of the thesis analyses the origins and evolution of the Romanian Communist Party. It describes the relationship between the Party and the Romanian national State, divided between its search to a balance among the internationalist desiderata connected to its subordination to Moscow and the necessity to detect a Romanian identity. The second section deals with an analysis of the communist discourse about the nation, the national history and identity. It takes into consideration the typology of the actors that participated to the setting up of the nationalist discourse of Ceauşescu regime and also the mechanisms that articulated this discourse. The third section analyses the relationship with the nation, the symbolic manipulations of the national identity and feeling by the discourse of the Romanian anti-communists. In this section, it makes an attempt especially to understand the common cultural roots that the Romanian anti-communist discourse share with the nationalist communism of Ceauşescu regime and also its effects on the political culture of the Romanian society as a whole. The conclusions of the thesis come to the effects of this utilisation of a common national referential both for the communists and anti-communists over the Romanian political culture
