Full textOriginally aimed at operational objectives, the continuous measurement of well bottomhole pressure and temperature, recorded by permanent downhole gauges (PDG), finds vast applicability in reservoir management. It contributes for the monitoring of well performance and makes it possible to estimate reservoir parameters on the long term. However, notwithstanding its unquestionable value, data from PDG is characterized by a large noise content. Moreover, the presence of outliers within valid signal measurements seems to be a major problem as well. In this work, the initial treatment of PDG signals is addressed, based on curve smoothing, self-organizing maps and the discrete wavelet transform. Additionally, a system based on the coupling of fuzzy clustering with feed-forward neural networks is proposed for transient detection. The obtained results were considered quite satisfactory for offshore wells and matched real requisites for utilization

Para tanto, permitem o monitoramento do desempenho de po?os e a estimativa de par?metros de reservat?rios no longo prazo. Contudo, a despeito de sua inquestion?vel utilidade, os dados adquiridos de PDG apresentam grande conte?do de ru?do. Full textNowadays, medical image compression is an essential process in eHealth systems. Compressing medical images in high quality is a vital demand to avoid misdiagnosing medical exams by radiologists. WAAVES is a promising medical images compression algorithm based on the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) that achieves a high compression performance compared to the state of the art. The main aims of this work are to enhance image quality when compressing using WAAVES and to provide a high-speed DWT architecture for image compression on embedded systems. Regarding the quality improvement, the logarithmic number systems (LNS) was explored to be used as an alternative to the linear arithmetic in DWT computations. A new LNS library was developed and validated to realize the logarithmic DWT. In addition, a new quantization method called (LNS-Q) based on logarithmic arithmetic was proposed. A novel compression scheme (LNS-WAAVES) based on integrating the Hybrid-DWT and the LNS-Q method with WAAVES was developed. Hybrid-DWT combines the advantages of both the logarithmic and the linear domains leading to enhancement of the image quality and the compression ratio. The results showed that LNS-WAAVES is able to achieve an improvement in the quality by a percentage of 8% and up to 34% compared to WAAVES depending on the compression configuration parameters and the image modalities. For compression on embedded systems, the major challenge was to design a 2D DWT architecture that achieves a throughput of 100 full HD frame/s. A novel unified 2D DWT computation architecture was proposed. This new architecture performs both horizontal and vertical transform simultaneously and eliminates the problem of column-wise image pixel accesses to/from the off-chip DDR RAM. All of these factors have led to a reduction of the required off-chip DDR RAM bandwidth by more than 2X. The proposed concept uses 4-port line buffers leading to pipelined parallel four operations: the vertical DWT, the horizontal DWT transform, and the read/write operations to the external memory. The proposed architecture has only 1/8 cycles per pixel (CPP) enabling it to process more than 100fps Full HD and it is considered a promising solution for future 4K and 8K video processing. Finally, the developed architecture is highly scalable, outperforms the state of the art existing related work, and currently is deployed in a video EEG medical prototype

Full textIn this work, we discuss two new multicarrier modulating kernels that can be adopted for multicarrier signaling. These multicarrier transforms are the fractional Forurier transform (FrFT) and discrete wavelet transforms (DWT). At first, we relate the transforms in terms of mathematical relationships, and then using numerical and simulation comparisons we show their performances in terms of bit error ratio (BER) for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) applications. Numerical results using BPSK and QPSK support that both can be applied for multicarrier signaling, however, it can be resource effective to drive the DWT as the baseband multicarrier kernel at the expense of the FrFT

Full textStudy is presented into the performance of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and MIMO-DWT with transmit beamforming. Feedback loop has been used between the equalizer at the transmitter to the receiver which provided the channel state information which was then used to construct a steering matrix for the transmission sequence such that the received signals at the transmitter can be combined constructively in order to provide a reliable and improved system for next generation wireless systems. As convolution in time domain equals multiplication in frequency domain no such counterpart exist for the symbols in space, means linear convolution and Intersymbol Interference (ISI) generation so both zero forcing (ZF) and minimum mean squared error (MMSE) equalizations have been employed. The results show superior performance improvement and in addition allow keeping the processing, power and implementation cost at the transmitter which has less constraints and the results also show that both equalization algorithms perform alike in wavelets and the ISI is spread equally between different wavelet domains.

Wavelet Transform is a multiresolution analysis that decomposes an original signal to multi-octave based functions, and we can analysis the original signal using these functions. It provides a novel and effective tool for many applications in signal processing area. Also, it has the advantage over the traditional Fourier Transform with respect to time-frequency analysis because of its characteristic of multiresolution. Therefore, it has been widely applied into many aspects of signal/image processing-related researches. In this thesis, we proposed and realized a Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) based de-noising circuit architecture with the applications into the noise reduction for medical signals. Here, our design was based on a three octave-level with Daubechies 4 filters. The circuit consists of three parts: DWT, thresholding, and IDWT. Software and hardware simulations were performed first. Furthermore, we implemented the de-noising circuit by downloading the Verilog codes to an FPGA to observe its practical processing ability. As a result, by inputting a noisy Electrocardiogram (ECG) into the de-noising circuit we found that the circuit satisfied the requirement of real-time processing, and also achieved pretty good performance for noise reduction.

Full textRecent studies suggest that multicarrier systems using wavelets outperform conventional OFDM systems using the FFT, in that they have well-contained side lobes, improved spectral efficiency and BER performance, and they do not require a cyclic prefix. Here we study the wavelet packet and discrete wavelet transforms, comparing the BER performance of wavelet transform-based multicarrier systems and Fourier based OFDM systems, for multipath Rayleigh channels with AWGN. In the proposed system zero-forcing channel estimation in the frequency domain has been used. Results confirm that discrete wavelet-based systems using Daubechies wavelets outperform both wavelet packet transform- based systems and FFT-OFDM systems in terms of BER. Finally, Alamouti coding and maximal ratio combining schemes were employed in MIMO environments, where results show that the effects of multipath fading were greatly reduced by the antenna diversity.

Full textPICARD is a space-based observatory hosting the Solar Diameter Imager and Surface Mapper (SODISM) telescope, which has continuously observed the Sun from July 2010 and up to March 2014. In order to study the fine structure of the solar surface, it is helpful to apply techniques that enhance the images so as to improve the visibility of solar features such as sunspots or faculae. The objective of this work is to develop an innovative technique to enhance the quality of the SODISM images in the five wavelengths monitored by the telescope at 215.0 nm, 393.37 nm, 535.7 nm, 607.1 nm and 782.2 nm. An enhancement technique using interpolation of the high-frequency sub-bands obtained by Discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWT) and the input image is applied to the SODISM images. The input images are decomposed by the DWT as well as Stationary Wavelet Transform (SWT) into four separate sub-bands in horizontal and vertical directions namely, low-low (LL), low-high (LH), high-low (HL) and high–high (HH) frequencies. The DWT high frequency sub-bands are interpolated by a factor 2. The estimated high frequency sub-bands (edges) are enhanced by introducing an intermediate stage using a stationary Wavelet Transform (SWT), and then all these sub-bands and input image are combined and interpolated with half of the interpolation factor α/2, used to interpolate the high-frequency sub-bands, in order to reach the required size for IDWT processing. Quantitative and visual results show the superiority of the proposed technique over a bicubic image resolution enhancement technique. In addition, filling factors for sunspots are calculated from SODISM images and results are presented in this work.

The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) technique has been widely used in signal processing and image processing. Since the DWT coefficients have the property of energy conservation in the low frequency part, it is suitable for data compression. In the recent industry standard, DWT has replaced DCT which is a main approach in image compression in JPEG2000 and MPEG4. Due to the drawback, the thesis focuses on the hardware architectures of 1-layer 1- dimensional DWT, multi-layer 1-dimensional DWT and Multi-layer 2-dimensional DWT which are the standard of JPEG2000. Based on the architecture, DWT and the inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT) can be integrated easily. Furthermore we can use the module design concept to implement DWT by different hardware architectures. Moreover, in the thesis, we use two different architectures to implement the multi-layer 1-dimensional DWT. Besides, accompanied with “2D-controller”the multi-layer 1-dimensional DWT can be adopted in multi-layer 2-dimension DWT hardware architecture. Consequently, the gate level simulation and P&R are done with Synopsys and Avant! tools. The chip has advantages in the ability of image processing, execution time and chip area.

In the recent industry standard, DWT has replaced DCT which is a main approach in image compression in JPEG2000 and MPEG4. Using EIC, we can translate the computation of DWT and IDWT into the instruction codes of ALU. Moreover, the ALU architecture of 1-stage DWT is worked out by three different architectures. Besides, accompanied with “Recursive Pyramid Algorithm (RPA)” the EIC can be adopted in multi-stage 1 dimension DWT and multi-stage 2 dimension DWT. Consequently, the gate level simulation and P&R are done with Synopsys and Cadence tools. The chip has excellent advantages in the ability of image processing, execution time and chip area.

Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is a very popular mathematical tool. It has been widely applied in engineering, signal processing and image processing, etc. In this thesis, we will introduce the DWT and the application of it and then I will use a method called sectioned convolution that proposed in this thesis to reduce the complexity of the DWT. The sectioned convolution is a fast algorithm of convolution by splitting the input of signal into section by section with sectioned length L, so we do not have to do the convolution until all the signal is received. It not only finds out a way to solve the delay problem but also reduces the computation time and computation complexity very much. The sectioned convolution discrete wavelet transform (SCDWT) is an application of sectioned convolution. It replaces all the traditional convolution computation in the DWT into the sectioned convolution. The efficiency implementation sectioned convolution discrete wavelet transform (EISCDWT) is an efficient way to implement the DWT. Its concept just likes the efficient implementation discrete wavelet transform but we use the sectioned convolution to instead of the traditional convolution. By this replacement, we can reduce the computation complexity and computation time. Beside the advantages that we mention above, there is another advantage that we also reduce the system complexity. Because we split the signal into the same length L, the point of FFT is fixed, the complexity of system is reduced. Recently, there are many research works about the DWT. The DWT has been used for many applications. We believe that the algorithm that we proposed in this thesis can make the DWT more powerful and have a lot of potentiality in the future. In this thesis, I will introduce the research works about the DWT systematically, including the research works of my professor and I and do a detailed comparison to the previous works. In Chap. 1, I will introduce the basic ideas and history of the wavelet transform. In Chap. 2, I will introduce the definition and the computation complexity of the DWT, including the detailed derivation, property. In Chap. 3, I will introduce the applications of the DWT simply. In Chap. 4, I will introduce the EIDWT and compare it to the traditional DWT in computation complexity. In Chap. 5, I will introduce the sectioned convolution and compare it to the traditional convolution on computation time and computation complexity. Considering the fair competition, all the programmings in my thesis are written by myself. In Chap. 9, I will do a detailed analysis of SCDWT and EISCDWT and a comparison between the DWT, SCDWT and EISCDWT. In the end of this chapter, I will compare the JPEG2000 with EISCDWT and JPEG wit DCT. In Chaps. 7, 8, I will introduce other researches of method to improve the efficiency of DWT May this thesis be helpful for you.

This thesis was proposed under the basis of the wavelet transform of speaker recognition system. In recent years, the relevant research for speaker feature that we usually adopted Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC). However, the background of noise may affect the recognition of speakers in real life, such as the voice of movement, engine running, speed change, braking, percussion, and so on. This thesis will introduce the technology of wavelet transform. By the way of wavelet transform, we will disassemble the frame through classified frequency. Besides, we will also calculate the characteristic parameter which with individual frequency band and establish the model of speakers. And we will set up more reliable speaker model. In the experiment of speaker recognition, we adopt Chinese digit (0-9) words form 10 speakers. And everyone speaks 20 times or so. Finally, this thesis will be tested under the condition of variable background noise level. We adopt each person of 200 files or so as reference data, others are used as test data. We find that the wavelet transform of speaker recognition system can be more effective and efficient than the traditional speaker recognition. The recognition rate can improve 2%~5% or so.
