The thoracolumbar transversospinal muscles are vital in normal function and are implicated in the pathogenesis of different forms of spinal pathology and pain. Despite the importance of these muscles, there is a paucity of knowledge in regard to aspects of their functional morphology. NF1 (neurofibromatosis type 1) is a relatively common genetic disease which may be characterized by the presence of scoliosis and altered bone metabolism, amongst its many orthopaedic manifestations.
