Full textThe present study evaluated whether Biopolymers are valid for microparticles by double emulsion method (A1/O/A2) - evaporation of the solvent, specific methods for the microencapsulation of water-soluble drugs. The ability of each to obtain microparticles were evaluated through the appearance of microparticles (MP) and efficiency of the process. We performed an optimization of the method used in the development of MP, assessing the possible influence of formulation and technological factors in the appearance and size of the MP. With the optimized method developed biodegradable microparticles containing a water-soluble drug, capable of controlling the release of drug for at least a week and can be administered via parenteral injection. The microparticles obtained were characterized by determining the appearance and size, processor performance, amount of drug encapsulation (load) and transfer in vitro test. In general, all employees can get Biopolymers MP. The appearance and performance of the process of encapsulation varies with the polymer used. The concentration of surfactant in the external aqueous phase and the process of extraction-evaporation of the solvent significantly affect the appearance of MP obtained. All MP presented a size suitable for parenteral administration. With 3 of the polymers were studied 7 MP to obtain a load suitable for a comfortable administration of a weekly dose of water-soluble drug.

Full textThis work has been performed within the projects PPQ2000-0240 and BQU2002-03357, financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education, as well as the short research stays performed at the Institut Européen des Membranes (Montpellier, France) under the supervision of Dr. Anne Julbe and at the Chemical Engineering Department of the Hiroshima University (Japan) under the direction of Prof. Masashi Asaeda. Pervaporation is the selective evaporation of one component of a liquid mixture by a membrane, which is in direct contact with the liquid phase. This work proposes the use of ceramic membranes to improve the pervaporative dehydration of organic solvents. With this purpose, the work has been developed into several stages:1. Functional characterisation of PV commercial ceramic membranes. 2. Synthesis of silica-zirconia, SiO2-ZrO2, membranes, as the literature points out to a higher stability of mixed oxide membranes at high water contents and temperatures. SiO2-ZrO2 membranes were prepared by two routes of the sol-gel method: (1) polymeric gel route and slip casting and (2) colloidal sol route and hot coating, The morphology and structure of these membranes were characterised by static procedures (FE-SEM, N2 adsorption-desorption, FTIR, XRD). The functional characterisation in PV of these membranes was performed.3. Development of PV ceramic membranes on industrial applications, mainly the valorisation of a residual ketonic stream coming from the production process of rubber antioxidants, and the recovery of THF and acetone from industrial effluents contaminated with water. In the case of the ketonic mixture, the performance of the commercial PV silica membranes was analysed at different working temperatures. 4. Mathematical modelling of water flux across PV ceramic membranes, as a function of the temperature and water activity in the feed.5. Validation of this model to the PV data obtained for the commercial silica membranes and also for the SiO2-ZrO2 non-commercial membranes, with acceptable accuracy. This work contributes to achieve a deeper insight on the structure-performance relationship of PV ceramic hydrophilic membranes, in order to improve their qualities towards implementation into actual industrial processes where these membranes can solve significant problems within economic and environmental contexts.

Full textAims, methodology, results and discussion Aims The main objective of this thesis was to design new integrated operational protocols reaction/separation that allowed the direct synthesis and purification of high value-added products through the use of clean and sustainable technologies. For this, first hydrophobic ILs with long alkyl side chain were tested, solid at room temperature but with lower melt temperatures to 100°C and that had a sponge like behavior (SLILs, English "Sponge-Like Ionic Liquids") and ILs supported on porous matrices (SILLPs, English "Supported Ionic Liquids-Like Phases") in the development of biocatalytic processes for the synthesis of fragrances and flavours (i.e. terpenes esters) and biodiesel. Methodology Flavours synthesis was catalyzed by Novozyme 435 and was carried out in different SLILs, where the different samples were analyzed by NMR, gas chromatography and gas chromatography coupled to mass. While for biodiesel synthesis, besides the SLILs, SILLPs were used to carry out the continuous synthesis. Results The results obtained in this Thesis can be summarized as; 1. SLILs proved excellent reaction/separation media for the enzymatic synthesis of biodiesel, because they were able to dissolve the substrates of the reaction medium, generating monophasic, efficient (close to total conversion after 6h of reaction) and stable (half-life at 60ºC were higher 260 days) systems and by their suitable nature, was possible to design simple protocols separation of the products using solvent extraction or a new approach using simple centrifugation protocol at controlled temperature. This second approach was also employed for the biocatalytic synthesis of 16 terpene esters with excellent results (total conversion after 4h of reaction and high operational stability). 2. The enzymatic synthesis of biodiesel in scCO2 was performed in flow reactors containing, commercial immobilized biocatalyst coated with SLILs or CALB immobilized on polymeric resins containing hydrophobic ILs covalently bound, in both cases with excellent yields and operational stabilities. 3. The use of microwave irradiation for biocatalytic systems on SLILs or suspended in SILLPs, constituted a significant improvement in enzyme activity observed in processes, DKR and synthesis of fragrances by direct esterification between the acetic acid and anisyl alcohol. Discussion The unique properties of hydrophobic ILs, based on cations with long alkyl side chains, as switchable ionic liquid/solid phases can be extended to include a new feature: their behaviours as sponge-like systems. This facts open up a new way in green chemistry for separating products from reaction media based on “soak up” and “wrung out” phenomena of these sponge-like ILs. These ILs can “soak up” hydrophobic compounds as liquid phase, which became a single solid phase by cooling. Then, the solid phase behaves like a sponge from which the compounds of interest are recovered as a pure liquid phase by centrifugation of the solid, like a wrung out phenomenon. This opens up a new avenue in green chemistry for separating products from reaction media based on ILs. In the same context, scCO2 seems to be the perfect companion of ILs for the development of downstream steps in green synthetic processes, which allows cleaning and recovering of ILs for reuse because of the unique phase behaviour of ILs or SILLPs/scCO2 systems. By combining enzymes with ILs/scCO2 biphasic systems, the chemical industry has another clear strategy for developing integral green synthetic processes.
