ObjectivesApproximately one in eight practices in primary care in England are ‘dispensing practices’ with an in-house dispensary providing medication directly to patients. These practices can generate additional income by negotiating lower prices on higher cost drugs, while being reimbursed at a standard rate. They, therefore, have a potential financial conflict of interest around prescribing choices. We aimed to determine whether dispensing practices are more likely to prescribe high-cost options for four commonly prescribed classes of drug where there is no evidence of superiority for high-c

Objective: To establish the instantaneous relative risk (RR) associated with the dispensing of individual antipsychotic drugs, carbamazepine and valproate for those ≥65 years who resided in an aged care facility. Method: The risk of death for incident users of antipsychotic drugs, carbamazepine and valproate in 2003 or 2004 who resided in an aged care facility was established using mortality rates and Cox proportional hazards models over two time periods. The regression models were adjusted for age, gender, medical and psychotropic drug dispensing, and a measure of overall medical comorbidity.

Access to medication emphasizes the availability of the product at the expense of providing a service. The goal of this paper is to propose a theoretical model for a drug dispensing service, beginning with a reflection on the current realities of the Unified Health System and drug dispensation in Brazil. A conceptual analytical research made by a methodological course called disciplined imagination was mainly the approach applied to develop the model. The drug dispensing service is part of the care process, which considers access as an attribute; reception, connection and accountability, manag

BackgroundUse of antiasthmatic medications has increased over the years worldwide. The aim of this study was to describe the use of antiasthmatic drugs in children in France.MethodsData were retrieved from the permanent sample (1/97th) of the French national healthcare database - the Système National des Données de Santé (SNDS) for all individuals aged from 5 to 18 years old (n=143,909) from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2017. Prevalence and incidence rate of antiasthmatic dispensing were calculated. All analyses were stratified by calendar year, age (5–11, 12–18 years) and gender. Users were

Introduction All guidelines necessitate wearing personal protective equipment during dispensing of oral anticancer drugs. This study aims to measure the degree of contamination on the press-through-package strips of oral anticancer drugs in Japan. Method Surface contamination of the external packaging of anticancer drugs was examined by performing wipe tests at four hospitals and two community pharmacies. The following commercially available drugs were examined: Xeloda®, TS-1®, and methotrexate tablets and SA-1® and Rheumatrex® capsules. Results The wipe tests’ results revealed that the contam

6099 Background: As the number and complexity of chemotherapy regimens increase, the demands on pharmacy services to reduce chemotherapy preparation and checking times continues to increase. Dose banding, a system whereby doses of intravenous cytotoxic drugs calculated on an individual basis are rounded up or down to predetermined standard doses (the maximum variation of the adjustment between standard dose and doses constituting each band is 5% or less) was identified as a strategy that could be used to address some of the issues around time pressures to help reduce patient waiting times for
