Abstract:
Indentation is widely used to investigate the elastic and plastic properties of materials, which include strain rate dependence. However, the results of the general micro-indentation test were affected by the microscopic scale of materials (e.g., surface roughness, and crystal grain size distribution), since the displacement was small. In the present study, we develop the sharp millimeter indention expanded displacement without the microscopic scale of materials. Furthermore, the effect of displacement rate on the sharp millimeter indentation was evaluated using the quasi-static and impact indentation test. In this study, high purity aluminum, with 99.99 mass%, was selected as the material with strain rate dependence of strength. The quasi-static indentation test was performed using the universal testing machine at the displacement rate of 8.3×10-7 m/s, 8.3×10-6 m/s, and 8.3×10-5 m/s. The impact indention was carried out at the displacement rate of approximately 3×100 m/s. The loading curvature decreased with increasing displacement immediately after indentation, and then this value was convergent, regardless of the displacement rate. It was clear that this convergent value was affected by the displacement rate.

Abstract:
Passive earth pressure brought into play depends on displacement ratio, s/sc ,of retaining wall in site and limit state close. Base on friction angle discount coefficient and differential layer method,an estimating method for unlimited state passive earth pressure is set up for cohesiveless soil retaining wall with translation mode.Study indicates that values of passive earth pressure by method in this paper are lower than by Coulomb earth pressure theory. The difference of passive earth pressure by both methods is magnified with decrease of displacement ratio, s/sc and angle,β ,respectively. The critical angle of soil in here is smaller than Coulomb earth pressure theory and it diminishs with the decrease of displacement ratio, s/sc. Moreover, critical angle will minish with increase of angleβwhen displacement ratio, s/sc ,is immovable.Analytical results also show that action point of passive earth pressure is under 1/3 times height of retaining wall and keep descending with the increase of displacement ratio, s/sc ,and angle,β.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper reports results from 1g model tests carried out under single gravity on a skirted foundation installed in sand and subjected to a rapid uplifting force. The effects of displacement rates ranging from 5 mm/s to 450 mm/s on the ultimate capacity, suction pressure inside the skirt compartment, and time of extraction were investigated. Test results indicate that the displacement rate significantly affected the magnitude of uplift resistance, as well as the magnitude of suction under the foundation lid, but had little effect on the relationship between stress and the displacement of the foundation. The shapes of the uplift capacity-displacement curve and the suction-displacement curve were similar for all experimental displacement rates.

Abstract:
Displacement is a paradigm I use to describe the ways in which I organize myself and invite others to reposition themselves while being in constant movement in and between contexts that are also in perpetual motion. Move and be moved, displace and be displaced are principles that (i) imply constant readings of contexts, the creation of appropriate situations, or/and informed uses of existing situations; and (ii) call for attitudes of presence, distanciation, and (re-)positioning. Five methods and three practices came out of the time dedicated to search and research within my PhD project. My thesis, titled “Displacement(s) as Method(s)”, is a matrix of several formats (such as letter, catalogue, conversation) and media (text, film, etc.), which I used to filter my works, methods, practices, and tools. Within this matrix, one can choose one’s own journey and process, and the time one wants to dedicate to and invest in it – from a few minutes to several hours. The reader is invited to dive into a work that has its own reality, temporality, and space. Each notion, positioning, format, and work is a fragment of the research I have processed over the last four years. These diverging and overlapping elements and components are numerous and multiple; they nourish and densify my proposition of an articulation

This work looks at everyday places in order to understand how boundaries are enacted and re-employed, shifted and displaced in post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina. Post-Dayton boundaries correspond to practices of demarcation that may or may not entail geographic delimitations and that have been reorganized by the Dayton Peace Agreement in ways that have assured them a more prominent role in sociopolitical life in BiH. While engaging in an effort to conceptualize borders and boundaries, this thesis argues that boundaries are dependent on practices, which confers upon them a precarious status and indicates that they might be changed. Boundaries may thus be re-employed (in the sense of diverting its original meaning and employing a different one); shifted and displaced, but also much more, as it will be exposed here: crossed, minimized, subverted, dismissed, disdained, but also reinforced, reaffirmed and celebrated. It is thus looking at the everyday that this work makes sense of those boundaries, knowing, however, that they are permeated with contradictions and may be enacted in different ways by different people. The everyday, which usually receives our daily inattention, will be considered here a relevant analytical category through which undertake this research. Indeed, the everyday cannot be reduced to the unimportant or the banal, as mere residual or the remnants of the political. Rather, it is profoundly related to all activities, and encompasses them with all their differences and their conflicts; it is their meeting place, their bond, their common ground (Lefebvre, 1991: 97), and it thus provides for connection and mediation between categories often presented as dichotomies such as public and private, the exceptional and the routine (Lefebvre, 2008: 16). It is in and through the everyday that those tensions are played, the disputes are fought and appropriations and even transformation take place. The research was undertaken in Sarajevo and Mostar, two of the main cities in BiH. More specifically, this research looks at everyday places within these cities, such as schools, streets, squares, cafés, coach station and shopping malls, which might be enacted as the very (ethnonational, local/international) boundaries or the arena in which those boundaries are diverted and displaced. This thesis, therefore, provides for an alternative account to more official narratives about ethnonational divisions, as well as questions clear-cut distinctions between the local and the international in post-Dayton BiH.

Abstract:
In this thesis project, the aim is to explore displacements beyond the familiar usage in migration studies associated with ’human’ by using a new materialist/s understanding ofontology and agency. This approach opens the possibility to move beyond the understanding of displacements as referring only to human agency. The fictionalised story, Parable of theSower, is used in the thesis as the real-world ontological world-building storytelling and the questions that flow from the aim of this thesis is used as a guiding navigator within the mainstory to see what other stories emerges; The Earthseed Story, The More-Than-Human Storiesand The Human Stories. Displacement(s) beyond human agency from a new materialist outlook show the complexity and challenges of being interconnected and codependent in a world containing multiple stories that move in and out of spacetime refuturing. This occursboth as dystopia and utopia, as agency is in-the-making and ongoing reshaping of territorialization and deterritorialization making all-the-flesh moving boundaries of being displaced and in-place in a belongings-non-belongings continuum. For future research, multispecies displacement(s) is discussed as ongoing processes of both; dystopian and utopian storytelling, and the possibilities for refuturing shared worlds.

Abstract:

Wanderers in the spaces of their memories and the streets of their would-be homes, generations of suffering immigrants are traced back to the past, propelled by the crescendo of melancholic stillness that moves displaced bodies through states of in-betweenness that both dispels and teeters on the far side of either assimilation or exclusion. Many transnational narratives situate the immigrant at a crossroads in terms of a loss of the ‘original’ culture in exchange for the new ‘American’ culture, where national diversities are confined to a singular framework and rhetoric of displacement, overruled by the myth of successful assimilation, whereby the hardships of adjusting to foreign spaces are ‘normalized’ and reduced to a series of trials. This portrayal, in turn, does not leave any room for the rhetoric of pain, or what I label as the ‘migrant’s mourning’, where the immigrant’s suffering is suppressed and eclipsed by a collective history of racial abjection. Insights into the psyche of the immigrant serve to map the hedge between the past and the present and absolute versus relative spaces. Applying psychoanalytical and postcolonial frameworks to literary analysis, this dissertation explores some of the prominent transnational narratives to establish that the melancholic dynamics of space, memory, and language can subvert misrepresentations and grant the immigrant mobility within the confines of homogenized spaces. It seeks to explore the ways in which the transnational American narrative employs melancholic tenor as aesthetics to empower displaced figures. Situating its protagonists at the locus of nations, these narratives underscore melancholia, mourning, and memory as tools and protocols of agency that challenge the myth of assimilation and re-think the rhetoric of displacement.

Abstract:
This study is focusing on the conflict-induced internally displaced Kurdish women&rsquo
s experiences. There has been an ongoing internal armed conflict in Turkey since 1984 and one of the consequences of this conflict is the internal displacement that occured in 1990s. In the displacement process, women and other family members were victimized. They did not only loose their homelands, but they also had to struggle in the city centers with poverty and discrimination. After they started to live in the city centers, women may become both marginalized and empowered. The aim of the study is to understand the situations that lead Kurdish women to be marginalized and/or empowered in the cities to which they have been forced to migrate. After the displacement process, which is one of the major victimization processes for these women, some of them may be trapped in ethnic and gender-based discrimination and may become more marginalized in the city centers. But marginalization and empowerment are not fixed categories and there is always a possibility for these women to transform their marginalized position into empowerment. By political engagement, working outside house and/or being head of the househod these women may break the cycle of their marginalization and becomes empowered in the city centers.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to examine the rights of internally displaced persons as well as finding out whose responsibility it is to maintain these rights. The questions being answered are: what policies, laws and conventions are addressing internally displaced persons in Somalia (mainly from within Somalia, UN and AU)? And; which principal similarities and differences in these documents are to find regarding what type of protection internally displaced persons can get? Whose responsibility is it to intervene if these rights and rules are not maintained? To answer these questions I have used a liberal-universal theoretical framework. The analysis is a describing case study of comparative nature between the Provisional Somalia Constitution, UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement and the Kampala Convention. The result shows that there are many different rights of internally displaced persons in Somalia. Instead the problem seems to be based on the rights not being maintained in combination with the complex question of whose responsibility it is.

Abstract: In the sowing operation, the appropriate stand and the uniformity on the distribution of seeds are mentioned as factors of great influence on the corn yield.. These factors can be affected by several variables, being the planter displacement velocity one of the most important of them, besides the adjustment of seeds in the perforated disc device for seed dosage. The inadequate displacement velocity and adjustment of the planter may provide low population of plants, leading to an undesired yield. The current paper had as its objective to analyze the precision planter's operational and energetically performances according to five different displacement velocities and two types of jumpers used for planting no-tillage corn. The experiment was installed and conducted at the experimental area belonging to the College of Agricultural Science - UNESP located in Botucatu, Sao Paulo state, in the period comprised between December, 2007 and May, 2008. The experimental soil area was classified as Nitossolo Vermelho Distroférrico presenting a deep argillaceous texture. The experimental design consisted of blocks at random with parcels subdivided in factorial scheme 2x5, two types of jumpers (4 and 5 staples) and 5 different displacement velocities (3,0; 4,5; 5,0; 7,0 e 9,0 Km h-1) with four repetitions. Thus, the experiment was composed by 10 treatments, totalizing 40 experimental plots. The evaluated data regarded to the percentage of soil coverage, the sowing line depth, mobilized soil and seed overthrown area, horal and operational fuel consumption, force on the tractor traction bar, displacement velocity, effective field capacity, longitudinal distribution of seeds, average number of days for the emergence of seedlings, morphological and corn production components, mechanical harm on seeds and grain production. The displacement velocity effect was verified on the following variables: horal... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Abstract:
This essay is focused on the search for a true homeland in Jean Rhys’s Wide Sargasso Sea from a Postcolonial point of view. The main protagonist, Antoinette Cosway, struggles with her mixed heritage which is both Caribbean and European. As a result, she suffers from a split identity and searches for a place of belonging. Vital Postcolonial concepts, such as Diaspora and displacement are used in order to investigate the struggle to find a true homeland. Moreover, the main purpose of this essay is to investigate how Rhys uses depictions of nature and colour to convey this search, and thereby introduces yet another aspect for the characters to interact with. Nature provides comfort, sense of belonging and the opposite, but also explores the relationship between the characters. The colours red and white are highly frequent, and refer to Antoinette’s Caribbean and European identity, which alters through the novel. The images of nature are nostalgically depicted and Antoinette longs for a lost Caribbean without the effects of Colonialism, which is merely history. It is also discovered that the homeland she longs for, England, is not what she was searching for. The struggle for the homeland becomes futile, since Antoinette longs for an England of the romantic novels and a Caribbean that does no longer exist.

Abstract:
Making Home(s) in Displacement critically rethinks the relationship between home and displacement from a spatial, material, and architectural perspective. Recent scholarship in the social sciences has investigated how migrants and refugees create and reproduce home under new conditions, thereby unpacking the seemingly contradictory positions of making a home and overcoming its loss. Yet, making home(s) in displacement is also a spatial practice, one which intrinsically relates to the fabrication of the built environment worldwide. Conceptually the book is divided along four spatial sites, referred to as camp, shelter, city, and house, which are approached with a multitude of perspectives ranging from urban planning and architecture to anthropology, geography, philosophy, gender studies, and urban history, all with a common focus on space and spatiality. By articulating everyday homemaking experiences of migrants and refugees as spatial practices in a variety of geopolitical and historical contexts, this edited volume adds a novel perspective to the existing interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of home and displacement. It equally intends to broaden the canon of architectural histories and theories by including migrants' and refugees' spatial agencies and place-making practices to its annals. By highlighting the political in the spatial, and vice versa, this volume sets out to decentralise and decolonise current definitions of home and displacement, striving for a more pluralistic outlook on the idea of home.

Abstract:
Chapter 3 pursues Chapter 2’s immanent critique of the new historicism. Whereas new historicism’s bedrock is epistemology—questions about the domain of rationality—metaphysics is the province of questions about reality. The change in Romantic poetry crystallizes in effects that resist our codes not through denial, displacement, or repression—the conditions for a hermeneutics of suspicion—but through something like indifference. We see a new kind of negativity. This version of Romanticism verges on withdrawal from the scene of interpretation, resistance to the depth hermeneutics of earlier Marxist criticism. It is enabled by Spinoza’s theory of conatus; the work of Sebastiano Timpanaro, whose Marxist historicism arises from the nature and biology side; and the notion of autopoeisis of neurophysiologists Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela. The relevant patterns in Romantic poetry are then illustrated through a reading of Wordsworth’s “Old Man Travelling: Animal Tranquillity and Decay.”

Abstract:
AbstractThe number of refugees across the globe is growing dramatically—a trend predicted to continue due to a global increase in social and political instability as well as socioeconomic conflicts. In places where violence is seen as a necessary factor in achieving peace, ongoing armed conflict, and displacement will likely contribute to continued psychological impairment and suffering among those affected (Morina et al., .Frontiers in Psychiatry 9:433, 2018). Indeed, research overwhelmingly attests to the alarmingly high rates of PTSD among this population (Schouler-Ocak, M., Laban, C. J., Bäärnhielm, S., Kastrup, M. C., Dein, S., & Wintrob, R. (2019). Abstract:
Abstract This article describes the use of an optimized electrochemical delineation technique with illumination to clearly delineate the P-N junction on Si in short channel devices. In this process, the samples are exposed to a light source while in an aqueous CuSO4/HF/H2SO4 solution which induces a junction voltage between N- and P- type silicon. The N+/P+ dopant regions become the cathode/anode electrode plates. The treatment is simple and reproducible which makes it a practical method for identifying junction related problems at localized areas on a chip. Examples are provided to show the effectiveness of this technique in identifying (1) junction implant shift, (2) N+/P-well junction leak, (3) partially blocked NLDD implant, and (4) P+/N+ junction in high voltage device.
