Abstract:
Objective - To investigate the overall prevalence of citations to theses and dissertations, as well as their prevalence in feature articles, editorials, and review articles in top research nursing journals. To evaluate differences between journals and to determine whether there was a change in use over time. Methods - Journals were selected from the Medical Library Association’s Nursing and Allied Health Resource Section’s 2012 Selected List of Nursing Journals. An evaluation was conducted of citations from 3,711 articles published in 2011 and 2018 in 7 top nursing journals. Thesis and dissertation citations were identified and categorized by type of scholarly communication: feature articles, reviews, and editorials. Analysis was conducted for the prevalence of citations for theses and dissertations based on percentage of overall citations and the percentage of articles with a thesis and dissertation citation. Results - Thesis and dissertation citations accounted for 0.41% of all citations. However, 9.43% of the articles contained at least one thesis and dissertation citation. Feature articles contained more thesis and dissertation citations than review articles and editorials. The Journal of Advanced Nursing, Journal of Clinical Nursing, and the Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences published a higher percentage of articles with at least one thesis and dissertation citation. Conclusion - The overall use of theses and dissertations in nursing scholarship is comparatively low compared to other forms of scholarly communication. However, this unique form of scholarship viewed from its impact on the percentage of scholarly articles in nursing demonstrates that theses and dissertations have made more of a contribution than previously reported. Our research provides libraries and the nursing academy with empirical evidence for the value of theses and dissertations. It provides librarians and the nursing academy justification for continuing efforts to preserve, enhance access through digital repositories, and to continue to explore strategies to promote the use of theses and dissertations in research.

Abstract:
Continuing the previous edition, this bibliography presents dissertations titles produced mainly from universities in Australia, America, and Canada. Not only dissertations ones, some important theses are also displayed in this bibliography. The period 1980-1999 is a salient period in the process of Indonesian Islamic studies development. Since 1990 Minister of Religious Affairs has selectively sent Indonesian scholars finishing their master degree to McGill University. For the result, they produced theses master on Indonesian Islam. On the one hand, this theses can be used as an evidence that Indonesian scholars were able to introduce Indonesian Islam abroad; on the other hand, this introduction focuses on leaders thoughtwhich is then dominated the pattern of Islamic studies in Indonesian Islamic higher education institutions. In comparison, dissertation/thesis from the universities in the United States and Australia shows notable interesting assumption that during that period the scholars whose background are Islamic studies tend to produce theological-doctrinal dissertation/thesis as well as that of leaders-thought; while scholars with social and cultural background tend to review Islam from the attending problems in society. Keywords: Islamic Studies, McGill University, Bibliography, Dissertation, Indonesia

Abstract:
Examined is relevance of a subject of work is caused by the continuing deterioration of dissertation works. Therefore, article purpose is to define the system reason of deterioration of training of the top skills by the analysis of contents and structure of theses. The main shortcomings of dissertations, and understanding of their structural elements by applicants of an academic degree by communication with them in the course of preparation and carrying out preliminary protection of these were analyzed. Results of the analysis were compared to requirements of classical methodology and to interpretation of these requirements in the methodical managements and in publications. The essential system reason of decline in quality of dissertation works is in their traditional unsystematic structure, whith investigation withdrawal from scientific methodology and particular leveling of motivation to the analysis of a condition of a question and the received results of researches and also to system approach to the thesis, need of strengthening of methodological training of graduate students according to the uniform nation-wide program providing system approach to the organization of researches for all scientific specialties, and processing’s of the “Thesis and Abstract of the Thesis” standard according to classical requirements of scientific methodology and the system approach to dissertation work Is shown. The system scheme of the thesis, which can make a manual basis is the practical guide to organization and performance of dissertation work for training of graduate students and applicants is offered.

Abstract:
The School of Graduate Studies at East Tennessee State University started the first Thesis and Dissertation Boot Camp program in the fall of 2012 by organizing a team of dedicated faculty and staff to help promote the Boot Camp and to run its sessions. Boot Camp at ETSU has since had great success with participation, positive student feedback, and student success. We have had 268 total registrations and 178 unique participants in Boot Camp from all stages of the writing process and of those who were close to finishing, 94 have graduated, many of whom have credited the Boot Camp program with their success. We advertise 21 to all ETSU graduate students, local and regional institutions, and although they were always welcome, we have recently expanded our advertising to Capstone Project students. Students from all of these groups have participated. Boot Camp provides dedicated space and time to write free of distractions, with a variety of resources in the same room or just steps away. In this presentation, I will detail how, what, when, and who is involved in setting up and running our boot camps and provide an overview of our optional mini-workshops that are offered during each session. I will also provide an update on how our boot camp has evolved over the past five years and share some data that I am currently working on correlating boot camp attendance with graduation rates. Boot Camp models at other institutions will also be presented for comparison along with tips for setting up a boot camp at your institution. Another update for this presentation is a personal one. I would like to credit Boot Camp for my own professional growth. Working with boot campers through personal, professional, and academic challenges has tested my ability to be a leader and inspire others to persevere. Boot Camp continues to be a source of pride for me and the School of Graduate Studies at ETSU and I would love the opportunity to share the program again with representatives from other institutions.

Abstract:
Conferencia realizado del 12 al 14 de setiembre en Lima, Peru del 2012 en el marco del 15º Simposio Internacional de Tesis y Disertaciones Electrónicas (ETD 2012). Evento aupiciado por la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) y la Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC).<br>Title: Trends in Use of Citation Management Tools in Theses and Dissertations Authors: Charles J. Greenberg, Special Projects Librarian, Cushing/Whitney Medical Library, Yale University Length of presentation: 20 minutes Objective: Citation Management (CM) tools for scholarly writing predate the web browser. The advantages of current cloud-based tools, either free or subscription, support the expectation that every academic candidate for an advanced degree has an opportunity to use CM tools. CM improves the efficiency of scholarly writing and improves the formatted appearance of the electronic thesis or dissertation (ETD). The expanding range of desktop and cloud-based CM alternatives may demand student attention and potentially detract from the completion process. Do universities with ETD programs use their academic libraries to support the CM selection process, or do universities limit choices? How have universities supporting ETDs reacted to the emergence of new credible CM applications that offer attractive options for certain disciplines or devices? Methods: A brief survey was distributed to the ETD support community and social networks to ascertain the impact of burgeoning choices in CM for both students and the ETD administrative staff. Results: Pending survey and analysis Conclusions: Pending survey and analysis

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: Participants will learn various digital tools to assist them in the discovery of appropriate keywords for their own research and writings as well as in teaching. Background: Experiences teaching undergraduates and graduate students information literacy and retrieval have identified several areas where students have problems in searching databases because of misconceptions as to what they should be using as keywords. Methodology: The use of visual tools to identify keywords. Contribution: The visualization software demonstrated and used in the workshop can enhance the literature review portion of any research project. Recommendations for Practitioners: With the vast expansion of the amount of information available via the Web, it is time to go back to a more considered approach to keywords (as in the past when searching a database could cost hundreds of dollars) rather than just the first words that might occur. Recommendations for Researchers: In addition to using these techniques in your own research, teaching them to research assistants and students and not assume that everyone knows how to use keywords. Impact on Society: These same approaches can be used in continuing education or by independent scholars. Future Research: We plan to demonstrate at the conclusion of the workshop visual tools that can take it another step and help in organizing sources.

Abstract:
The Brazilian Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertations (BDTD) provides essential data to support many social sciences investigations. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of computation tools tailored for helping extract and analyze the necessary information from the BDTD library. In this paper, we discuss the development of computational solutions to answer questions from a particular social sciences research using metadata from BDTD. The solutions involve the integration of data processing and presentation techniques, such as string-processing algorithms, knowledge graphs and information visualizations. All programming codes implemented at the scope of the project are available for helping other researchers. The paper also highlights the importance of having researchers from Social Science and Computer Science working together, what motivates future collaborations in these areas.

Abstract:
In this paper Nicholson’s (1994) four-fold conceptual framework has been applied to ethical issues in research by postgraduate students undertaking theses or dissertations in computing. Ethical dilemmas are explored showing how knowledge in this area is acquired, shared and integrated from one research project to the next and within any one postgraduate cohort. Ethics of performing research within computing rather than professional codes are discussed. A major challenge in raising the level of awareness of professional ethics is in encouraging students to make the upwards shift from not only learning and applying technical skills but also integrating these skills with knowledge of the larger social system in which technology sits. A broad overview of how research ethics is practiced by postgraduate students undertaking thesis or dissertation is also discussed.

Abstract:
This study aimed to examine a research tendency through Master's and Doctoral dissertation in South Korea related to school counselors. In this study, school counselors were used in terms that included full-time and contractual counselors. School counselors are teachers who specialize in understanding students' daily psychological counseling, problem behavior and maladaptive counseling and establishing a prevention support system of fundamental reason of problem behavior for students. This is because their tasks required in school are similar. They were deployed to unit schools after Wee Project implemented in 2007 to ensure that students and all students experiencing poor learning and school maladaptation for having a happy school life. This study aimed to lay the foundation for improving and developing policies for improving the welfare and professionalism of school counselors, focusing on the subject of the degree thesis related to school counselors. This study conducted an exploratory study based on the year of publication and topics of the dissertation based on key words extracted from the data. The dissertations were published from 2010 to 2021 and were collected through Riss, a domestic database website in South Korea. This study focused on the frequency of emergence and Word Cloud which shows research tendency based on the year of publication analyzed by the frequency of emergency, title of the dissertation, and key words in abstract of the dissertation extracted from a file in MS Excel from the domestic database homepage. The analysis results of this study are as follows. First, the role and awareness of professional counseling teachers and Wee classes are required. Second, research was conducted to develop the capabilities of school counselors teachers working in the Wee class.it will serve as a foundation for improving professionalism, leading to the protection of ethics as a counselor working in the Wee class and ensuring the rights and welfare of counselors. In order to improve counseling capabilities, supervision and a certain amount of counseling practice are required in the process of training school counselors.

Abstract:
Kristi Shaw has completed an exceptional piece of research, providing critical analysis and originality in her dissertation Creating appreciation and community support for mothers caring for a child with anxiety disorder. She has completed a substantial dissertation that would achieve the goal of a thesis at a higher credit level. Shaw’s inside knowledge of caring for a child with anxiety disorder has been applied to this project. The research involves an ambitious application of appreciative inquiry to the task of supporting a group of mothers to take action on the needs of their children with high anxiety. She has made a strong case for addressing the problem of people globally experiencing increasing levels of anxiety and targeting the unique challenges for parents who have children living with the ‘invisible’ impairment of anxiety.

Patel, Reena. Complex network analysis for early detection of failure mechanisms in resilient bio-structures. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/41042.

Full text
Abstract:
Bio-structures owe their remarkable mechanical properties to their hierarchical geometrical arrangement as well as heterogeneous material properties. This dissertation presents an integrated, interdisciplinary approach that employs computational mechanics combined with flow network analysis to gain fundamental insights into the failure mechanisms of high performance, light-weight, structured composites by examining the stress flow patterns formed in the nascent stages of loading for the rostrum of the paddlefish. The data required for the flow network analysis was generated from the finite element analysis of the rostrum. The flow network was weighted based on the parameter of interest, which is stress in the current study. The changing kinematics of the structural system was provided as input to the algorithm that computes the minimum-cut of the flow network. The proposed approach was verified using two classical problems three- and four-point bending of a simply-supported concrete beam. The current study also addresses the methodology used to prepare data in an appropriate format for a seamless transition from finite element binary database files to the abstract mathematical domain needed for the network flow analysis. A robust, platform-independent procedure was developed that efficiently handles the large datasets produced by the finite element simulations. Results from computational mechanics using Abaqus and complex network analysis are presented.
