Dynamic spectrum access (DSA) is a powerful approach to mitigate the spectrum scarcity problem caused by rapid increase in wireless communication demands. Based on architecture design, DSA systems can be categorized as centralized and distributed. To successfully enable DSA, both centralized and distributed systems have to deal with spectrum management issues including spectrum sensing, spectrum decision, spectrum sharing and spectrum mobility. Our work starts by investigating the challenges of efficient spectrum monitoring in centralized spectrum sensing. Since central controllers usually req

Abstract:
Over the past few decades, wireless local area networks (WLANs) have been widely deployed for data communication in indoor environments such as offices, houses, and airports. In order to fairly and efficiently use the unlicensed frequency band that Wi-Fi devices share, the devices follow a set of channel access rules, which is called a wireless medium access control (MAC) protocol. It is known that wireless devices following the 802.11 standard MAC protocol, i.e. the distributed coordination function (DCF), suffer from packet collisions when multiple nodes simultaneously transmit. A modern Scania vehicle has a large number of Electronic Control Units (ECUs) that communicates via CAN in a distributed real time embedded system environment. The magnitude, complexity and modular nature of the system produce a challenge to design and optimize. Investigated in this thesis is the powertrain system which consists of five ECUs and one CAN bus, which has a very high communication load. The hypothesis is that centralization can simplify the system and concentrate all information on a single point creating a Centralized Database. The goal of this master thesis is to investigate the

Wind power generation does, on the one hand, contribute to a less polluting and more sustainable electric power generation mix. On the other hand, the uncertainty and the variability of the power output do challenge the operation of the power system: hourly variations in wind power generation are hardly predictable in a precise way. To decrease the need for balancing power, it might be beneficial from the overall system-perspective to subject power generating companies to stricter balancing incentives/rules. The way the market is designed has become crucial to exploit the existing flexibility

Front-end converters with power factor correction (PFC) capability are widely used in distributed power systems (DPSs). Most of the front-end converters are implemented using a two-stage approach, which consists of a PFC stage followed by a DC/DC converter. The purpose of the front-end converter is to regulate the DC output voltage, supply all the load converters connected to the distributed bus, guarantee current sharing, and charge a bank of batteries to provide backup energy when the power grid breaks down. One of the main concerns of the power supply industry is to obtain a front-end conv
