Methane (CH$ sb4$) fluxes were measured in a range of peatland sites by a static chamber method in two regions of northern Canada, the Clay Belt of boreal Ontario and the Labrador Trough of subarctic Quebec. In both regions, seasonal mean water table position was the best predictor of mean CH$ sb4$ flux when microtopography was included in the analysis (r$ sp2$ = 0.73; p $<$ 0.01). Macular pigment densities of 90 subjects, 73 Hong Kong Chinese and 17 Australian Caucasians, aged between 20 to 80, were measured. In the majority of the subjects, the distribution of the macular pigment was found to peak at the fovea, decreasing in density with eccentricity. Abstract:
The studies in this thesis investigate the effects of corticosteroid therapy in subjects with COPD on the size, composition, distribution and anti-inflammatory properties of HDL. Subjects with COPD were treated for 1 week with prednisone. Control subjects with lower respiratory tract infection were treated for 2 weeks with antibiotics. Blood was collected on days 1 and 5 after commencing treatment, and at 6 weeks post-treatment. Treatment of COPD subjects with prednisone increased plasma HDL-C and apo A-I levels and decreased triglyceride levels but had no effect on circulating concentrations

An analytical model of an axial flux permanent magnet machine has been made. The model were based on a 2-D magnetic circuit calculated at average length assuming a constant magnetic and electric loading. The model were optimized using the built-in features in MATLAB.Genetic Algorithms (GA), Gradient Based Interior-Point optimization and a hybrid combination of the two were used to optimize the design. In this dissertation the heat flux prediction capabilities of Residual Distribution (RD) schemes for hypersonic flow fields are investigated. Two canonical configurations are considered: the flat plate and the blunt body (cylinder) problems, with a preference for the last one. Both simple perfect gas and more complex thermo-chemical non-equilibrium (TCNEQ) thermodynamic models have been considered.<p><p>The unexpected results identified early in the investigation lead to a thorough analysis to identify the causes of the unphysical hypersonic heating.<p><p>The first step taken is the assessment
