For a district heating company it is of importance to have an efficient and well performing system. A central part in the work to lower temperature levels in district heating networks is to acknowledge and improve cooling capability in substations. The aim of this thesis is to analyse substations in Polish district heating systems in order to identify reasons of poor cooling and to present suggestions of implementable measures. Furthermore, the economical saving potential from an improved cooling is evaluated. The analysis was carried out for two of the five Polish companies included in this r

Absorption cooling system driven by district heating network is relized as a smart strategy in Sweden. During summer time when the heating demand is low, the excessive hot water can be directly sold to drive absorption chillers instead of decreasing its production. In addition, this is also one answer to satisfy the cooling demand in more environmentally way since currently only around 26% of cooling demand in Sweden is satisfied by district cooling, the rest is fulfilled by individual air conditioning. Saman, Namir Fathullah. "Analysis of building heating and cooling requirements after shutdown." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1989. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/184867.

Abstract:
The heating and cooling requirements after a shutdown period of the heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in buildings are studied through an analytical model. The parameters affecting the preconditioning and storage loads which are of particular importance are identified. A mathematical computer model is developed to facilitate the analysis of the shutdown loads. Zones are grouped in terms of heavy, medium and light weight construction for the study. For a specified zone, the ratio of the inside surface area to the outside exposed area, A(s)/A(w), is an important parameter i

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the applicability of multi-agent systems as a control approach for district heating systems. The consumers, i.e., the heat exchange systems, in current district heating systems are purely reactive devices and have typically no communication capabilities. They are only able to make local decisions without taking into account the global situation in the system. In this work, the possibilities of a new type of heat exchanger systems that has an open software environment and communication capabilities are explored. Operators of district heating systems have several, often

In an increasingly applied domain of pervasive computing, sensing devices are being deployed progressively for data acquisition from various systems through the use of technologies such as wireless sensor networks. Data obtained from such systems are used analytically to advance or improve system performance or efficiency. The possibility to acquire an enormous amount of data from any target system has made machine learning a useful approach for several large-scale analytical solutions. Machine learning has proved viable in the area of the energy sector, where the global demand for energy and

Abstract:
In this thesis report for Dalarna University in Borlange and Absolicon company the study of a possibility to add an array of concentrating solar collectors to a Torsång district heating system was done. The whole idea of this work was to make a simulation of this kind of system, trying to get 15-20% of solar fraction, and make an economical evaluation. At the same time, another goal was to make two comparisons: between concentrating and flat-plate collector in the same system, and between two tools for collector analysis – Polysun and Absolicon tool, based on TRNSYS, which was designed to esti
