Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to find a mechanism for funding the extension of the drinking water network to the poor neighbourhoods of the District of Abidjan in order to bring drinking water close to the disadvantaged populations. To this end, microeconomic data collected from one thousand households, spread over the entire territory of the Abidjan District, were used. A statistical analysis enabled the study to describe poor population’s access to drinking water and to highlight the inadequacies in the distribution of such a universal service. The use of type-II tobit model (the Heckman method) in analysing the data also enabled the study to identify the main explanatory factors for the district’s population’s willingness to pay (WTP) for the extension of the drinking water distribution network to their poor neighbourhoods. And average WTP for water extension in Abidjan is 140350 CFA francs per household and per year.

Abstract:
A study of the unconfined Continental Terminal aquifer in Abidjan District, located in a coastal sedimentary basin in Southern Côte d’Ivoire (West Africa), is conducted. This aquifer is the principal source of drinking water for the city of Abidjan. The water quality of the aquifer is affected by anthropogenic sources of pollution, such as scattered deposits of solid and liquid waste of all kinds. Additionally, the proliferation of gas stations, including potential tank leakage, must be considered in the event of an accident. To ensure the effective protection and management of the Abidjan groundwater, this work assesses the groundwater contamination risk of the Abidjan aquifer by hydrocarbons such as benzene. To achieve this objective, a numerical groundwater model that included the geological and hydrogeological data of the Abidjan aquifer was constructed with FEFLOW 7.1. A predictive simulation of groundwater flow coupled with the transport of dissolved benzene deposited on the soil surface at the N’Dotré and Anador gas stations was performed. The initial concentrations of dissolved benzene were 43.12 mg/L and 14.17 mg/L at the N’Dotré and Anador sites, respectively. The results revealed that a threshold concentration of 0.001 mg/L was reached after 44 years and two months at borehole ZE11, which is located four kilometers downgradient from the source. The maximum peak concentration of 0.011 mg/L was reached at this point after 47 years and two months. In this region, 14 other boreholes could be threatened by dissolved benzene pollution based on the simulation.

Abstract:
The present study was carried out to inventory medicinal plants storage conditions on the markets of Abidjan district. A survey was conducted from August to October 2015 in three settings of the district of Abidjan (Abobo, Adjame and Yopougon). A total of 350 sellers of medicinal plants were interrogated using semi-structured interviews. The respondents were predominantly female (98.9%), aged between 30 and 60 years. The supply of medicinal plants in the markets was done by the wholesalers (86%) who themselves harvested plants in different forests or savanah of Côte d’Ivoire. The majority of sellers (73%) did not apply any measure of hygiene in storage. These people in 99.4% of case were not trained on good storage practices. Sale places were accessible to rodents and exposed to dust caused by traffic jamp. The presence of mud (9.1%) and garbage (23.1%) was noted in the immediate surrounding of the displays. These practices of processing and storage of medicinal plants were similar in all the visited settings. These storage conditions may constitute a hazardous risk for the consumer and justify the degradation of medicinal plants on the markets.

Abstract:
Forage trading in the city of Abidjan is an activity not known by the population. The objective of the study was to determine the importance of the collection of forage plants in the socio-economic life of the actors of the sector. Prospects and semi-structured interviews were conducted, and we determined the floristic composition of forages sold in the market. The results of the survey show that the forage sold by the farmers is taken free of charge in the city of Abidjan. The unit price (UP) of a bundle of forage is on an average of 50 FCFA when there are few animals on the market, and 100 FCFA or 200 FCFA in case of high affluence such as during holidays. Thus, the estimated average financial income per day of an operator during periods of low affluence of animals in the markets is 875 F CFA. On an average, it is 26250 FCFA per month and 3350 FCFA per day. Also, there is an estimated average of 100 400 FCFA in periods of abundance of animals for sale in the market. The results of investigations showed that forages species sold are composed of species such as Chloris pilosa Schumach. (Poaceae), Panicum maximum Jacq (Poaceae), Brachiaria lata (Schumach.) Hub (Poaceae), Arachis hypogea L. (Fabaceae), and Phaseolus vulgaris L (Fabaceae). In addition to being food reserves, these activities provide work for those who exploit them. It allows them to meet their daily needs and also compensate for the lack of jobs.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In recent years, an upsurge of vector-borne diseases has been reported in several parts of the world. Among these is dengue fever, the first arbovirus transmitted by mosquitoes of the genusAedes. After the detection of the dengue virus serological types (type 1, 2, and 3) in the health district of Cocody-Bingerville in Ivory Coast, entomological investigations were carried out in the city of Cocody (host of most cases) to evaluate the risk of transmission of the disease in view of an effective vector control. Larval prospection together with the pitching of emergence traps was carried out in Caféier 5, Sideci-Coteau, Danga, Ecole de police, Gobelet village, Laurier 9, Lemania, Perles, 7èmetranche, and 12èmearrondissement. Entomological prospections revealed the predominance ofAedes aegypti(97.38%) as the main vector species of dengue viruses in Cocody. The Kruskall-Wallis test showed no statistically significant difference (KW = 1.8, p = 0.407) in the proportions of the vector species collected from the sampled sites. The risk of an outbreak of dengue fever in Cocody and other municipalities in the city of Abidjan is very certain insofar as the larval epidemic risk indices (Habitat Index, HI = 70.9; Container Index, CI = 40.26; and Breteau Index, BI= 21.3) reflect a very high epidemic risk (4 to 9) on the WHO density scale. The occurrence ofAedes aegyptiin Cocody indicates the risk of transmission of the Dengue fever virus.

Abstract:
Abstract. This work is part of the DACCIWA FP7 project (Dynamics-Aerosol-Chemistry-Cloud Interactions in West Africa) in the framework of the Work Package 2 Air Pollution and Health. This study aims to characterize urban air pollution levels through the measurement of NO2, SO2, NH3, HNO3 and O3 in Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire. Measurements of inorganic gaseous pollutants, i.e. NO2, SO2, NH3, HNO3 and O3 were performed in Abidjan during an intensive campaign within the dry season (15 December 2015 to 16 February 2016), using INDAAF (International Network to study Deposition and Atmospheric chemistry in AFrica) passive samplers exposed in duplicate for 2-week periods. Twenty-one sites were selected in the district of Abidjan to be representative of various anthropogenic and natural sources of air pollution in the city. Results from this intensive campaign show that gas concentrations are strongly linked to surrounding pollution sources and show a high spatial variability. Also, NH3, NO2 and O3 gases were present at relatively higher concentrations at all the sites. NH3 average concentrations varied between 9.1 ± 1.7 ppb at a suburban site and 102.1 ± 9.1 ppb at a domestic fires site. NO2 mean concentration varied from 2.7 ± 0.1 ppb at a suburban site to 25.0 ± 1.7 ppb at an industrial site. Moreover, we measured the highest O3 concentration at the two coastal sites of Gonzagueville and Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport located in the southeast of the city, with average concentrations of 19.1 ± 1.7 and 18.8 ± 3.0 ppb, respectively. The SO2 average concentration never exceeded 7.2 ± 1.2 ppb over all the sites, with 71.5 % of the sampling sites showing concentrations ranging between 0.4 and 1.9 ppb. The HNO3 average concentration ranged between 0.2 and 1.4 ppb. All these results were combined with meteorological parameters to provide the first mapping of gaseous pollutants on the scale of the district of Abidjan using geostatistical analysis (ArcGIS software). Spatial distribution results emphasize the importance of the domestic fires source and the significant impact of the traffic emissions on the scale of the city. In addition, in this work we propose a first overview of gaseous SO2 and NO2 concentrations on the scale of several African cities by comparing literature to our values. The daily SO2 standard of World Health Organization (WHO) is exceeded in most of the cities reported in the overview, with concentrations ranging from 0.2 to 3662 µg m−3. Annual NO2 concentrations ranged from 2 to 175 µg m−3, which are lower than the WHO threshold. As a conclusion, this study constitutes an original database to characterize urban air pollution and a first attempt towards presenting a spatial distribution of the pollution levels at the scale of the metropolis of Abidjan. This work should draw the attention of the African public authorities to the necessity of building an air quality monitoring network in order to (1) to define national standards and to better control the pollutants emissions and (2) to investigate the impact on the health of the growing population in developing African countries.

Abstract:
This study identifies and analyses the factors that determine jurisdictional conflicts prevailing in the decentralization process in Côte d’Ivoire. To achieve these objectives, we interviewed, using semi-structured interviews, resource persons in the departments of Alépé, Grand-Bassam, Guiglo and the District of Abidjan. From these interviews, it appears that conflicts of jurisdiction are classified into two categories: vertical conflicts and horizontal conflicts. The vertical conflicts arise between central structures of Government and local authorities. Horizontal conflicts occur between local authorities. Usually caused by structural realities, these conflicts are fueled and poisoned by economic and especially political factors.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to determine the differences of fertility between HIV 1 infected and uninfected women in Abidjan, Cote d Ivoire, using data available in an observational study conducted in 1995 and 1996 in 2 antenatal care centres in the district of Yopougon, Abidjan, within an intervention programme to reduce mother to child HIV 1 transmission DITRAME project, ANRS 049 . Fertility indicators have been constructed from retrospective data on pregnancies and births, and univariate and multivariate analyses have been performed on these indicators and stratified by age groups to compare HIV 1 positive and HIV negative populations. The main outcome measures were the number of pregnancies, the number of miscarriages, the risk of miscarriage and the proportion of primigravida. Four thousand, three hundred and ninety six women agreed to HIV testing: 12.1 were found to be HIV 1 infected. HIV 1 positive women had significantly fewer pregnancies than HIV negatives in age groups 25-29 P =0.05 and 30-34 P =0.008 . The risk of having had at least one abortion or stillbirth was significantly higher for HIV 1 infected women than for HIV negatives OR=1.28, 95 CI: 1.02-1.60 , when controlling for social and demographic factors. This study suggests that HIV 1 infection has deleterious consequences on female fertility, with lower fertility rates and more frequent adverse pregnancy outcomes. Family planning and antenatal care services should consider antenatal HIV counselling and testing in women in areas of high HIV prevalence.

Abstract:
The Dougbafla gold deposit is located in the West-Central part of Côte d’Ivoire at about 240 km from Abidjan, on the Birimian greenstone belt of Fettèkro (West African craton). The lithologies of this deposit can be divided into three lithotectonic units which correspond to volcanic, sedimentary, and plutonic assemblages metamorphosed in the shale facies. Hydrothermalism, on the one hand, caused a pervasive alteration of the primary paragenesis marked by sericitic, silica, and carbonate alteration. On the other hand, it causes a vein alteration materialized by quartz veins. These hydrothermal alterations induced two types of gold mineralization in the Dougbafla deposit. These are: (i) disseminated gold and sulphide mineralization in the granophyre associated with sericite, silica and dolomite alteration in which no quartz vein has been reported; this type however is controlled by the intrusion of granophyre and (ii) a quartz vein mineralization controlled by deformation.

It presents the results of a survey conducted in the district of Abidjan in 2015, with a target population of 223 actors of traditional medicine and mobilizes interactionnist strategic analysis to make sense of the phenomenon under study. Thus it is clear from this study that the school youth encountered in this activity, mostly have primary education (60.54%), and to a lesser extent the secondary level (32.63%). They are also, traditional medicine sellers; and mostly professional experience of at least 5 years and over (65.92%). For inclusion in the traditional therapy, it appears that these have recourse to relational resources, as ideological resources or ideological productions. Thus, these resources together, are proving highly strategic for their integration into traditional therapy.

Abstract:
The Bingerville Botanical Garden is an urban green space which can contribute to the quality of the living environment and to attractivity of tourists in Abidjan city. Its floristic diversity and socio-economic and ecological benefits remain still unknown. The present study was conducted to assess botanical species diversity and the reduction of CO2 emissions in this space. Trees species with dbh ≥ 10 cm were recorded in 41 plots of 500 m² surveyed in four types of biotopes: two arboretums with 20 and 100 years old, one secondary forest with more than 100 years and a fallow of 20 years old. Floristic indices and aboveground biomass (AGB) were determined for each biotope. A total of 742 trees with dbh ≥ 10 were counted: 127 species. Preponderance species are Cassia siamea, Terminalia mantaly, Milicia excelsa and Ceiba pentandra in arboretums, Pentadesma butyracea and Acacia mangium in the secondary forest, Ficus exasperata and Borassus aethiopum in the fallow. Arboretums are richest (96 species), and they have more AGB (566.7 t/ha). The secondary forest has 71 species with an aboveground equal to 381.4 t/ha. The fallow is less rich (13 species) with an AGB of 21 t/ha. This study has shown the importance of Bingerville Botanical Garden in plant and fighting against climate change.

Abstract:
The notion of gender awakens in men and women a kind of competition in the couple; Sometimes causing frustration, conflict, antagonism and reciprocal depreciation. Thus, categorical differentiation appears within the couple as a source of accentuation of the differences between men and women in the fulfillment of family roles, affecting both the judgments of man over woman and woman on man. In order to appreciate the reality in the couple, this study proposes to determine the incidence of the categorical differentiation on the social representations in the couple, through the interactions. To this effect, the scales of evaluation of the social relations of Bazoumana are used on a sample of 40 couples, ie 80 subjects selected in the commune of Yopougon, in the district of Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) according to the technique of reasoned choice. The analysis of the results obtained reveals that social representations are influenced by the categorical differentiation in the couple. In other words, women and men are not assessed in the same way within the couple.

Abstract:
The Ivorian state has been involved in the construction of public schools given their importance for development. Since the 1980s, there has been a reduction in funding linked to the economic crisis and structural adjustment programmes. Thus, by a convention the State will concede the public service of education to the private sector. The results of this research on the conditions of access to private schools in the Abidjan district were analysed through a cross-sectional study with descriptive and analytical aims. This has led to disparities in costs between municipalities. 40,000 FCFA for minima and 1, 922,000 FCFA for maxima, a multiplication order of 48. In secondary school, the minimum is 43,000 FCFA and the maximum is 2, 706,000 FCFA, a multiplication order of 63. In higher education there are less disparities. In total, there are many differences in the costs of schooling from one school to another. While the public-private partnership has encouraged more children to attend school, it has also created a challenge to access because of the expensive costs of attending school.

Abstract:
Abstract To better understand the influence of periodic mass distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) on malaria transmission, a 1-yr entomological survey was conducted in three major districts of Côte d’Ivoire. Mosquitoes were sampled by Human Landing Catches (HLC) in urban and rural areas of San Pedro and Abidjan (coastal), and in Yamoussoukro (central). Mosquitoes were identified morphologically and by molecular methods. The Plasmodium falciparum circumsporozoite (CSP) indices were measured by ELISA, and the Entomological Inoculation Rates (EIR) were calculated for each species and area. Anopheles gambiae s.l. Giles (Diptera: Culicidae) and Anopheles nili Theobald (Diptera: Culicidae) were identified in coastal districts, while An. gambiae s.l. and Anopheles funestus Giles (Diptera: Culicidae) were reported in the central district. In urban areas, malaria vectors showed a low aggressiveness (<10 bites per person per night), except in Yamoussoukro, where up to 18.9 b/p/n were recorded. The annual EIR was higher in the central urban area (138.7 infected bites per person per year) than in coastal ones (10–62 ib/p/n). In rural areas, malaria vectors were highly aggressive with an average 13 b/p/n for An. gambiae s.l, 21.2 b/p/n for An. nili and 12 b/p/n for An. funestus. The annual EIR ranged between 94.9 and 193.4 infected bites per person per year. This work indicates that, despite repeated mass distribution of LLINs, malaria transmission remains high and heterogeneous across Côte d’Ivoire. Malaria transmission was lower in coastal urban areas than in the central one, and remains high rural areas where two additional Anopheles vectors are involved in malaria transmission.

ABSTRACT This article focuses on a pedagogic proposal concerning the applicability of the graphic novel Aya de Yopougon (vols. 1 and 2) (ABOUET; OUBRERIE, 2011, 2012), well-known for its format as a series of comic books, as a didactic resource for teaching History at High School. The graphic novel’s plot follows the life the 19-year-old character Aya, who lives in the district of Yopougon, in Abidjian, in Ivory Coast, in the late 1970’s. The narrative focus moves among the life experiences of the friends Aya, Bintou, and Adjoua, as well as those of their respective nuclear families. We present an analytical proposal based on the core discussions found in those comics which can be discussed in the classroom, such as, for instance: feminine sexual liberty and affective and family relationships in the African culture. Methodologically, this is a bibliographic study in which we go over critical works on the themes found in the article, such as: comic books and education, Africa’s history, and African gender epistemology. Our theoretically framework comprises authors such as Waldomiro Vergueiro (2012), Carlos Serrano and Maurício Waldman (2010), among others. This work will contribute to the academic community as it proposes a reading of the teaching of the History of Africa from a text genre perspective according to which comics may be positively used in education. Keywords: History of Africa; Comics and Education; Aya de Yopougon. Abstract:
The metropolis of Abidjan, economic capital of the Ivory Coast is a big west African metropolis. She is composed of ten townships that shelter each several markets. These markets play a primordial role in the development of the commercial activities. Indeed, every township shelters commercial infrastructures localized in the different districts. These markets are of variable size because one finds some of big and of small size. They knew an evolution since the years 1976 until our days. These markets are constructed either by the public powers, either by the promoters deprived according to the Build Operate and Transfer system. The system is a contract of constructional concession of public work a deprived entrepreneur's that exploits it during a certain time until the amortization of the working assets. These markets specialized in various domains of activities; offer the abidjanaise population, those of the inside of the country and even of the under-region panoply of articles that makes of this city biggest shopping mall of the country. The periods of exercise of these markets vary. The majority of the markets of Abidjan exercises in the day. On the other hand, some lead their activities in the evening, until late the night and are called of the night markets. The flourishing economic activities of the markets of Abidjan are bound to several factors of which the human factors and the economic factors more especially the economic activities that provide to the different worked the products necessary to the satisfaction of the needs of the consumers. Abstract:
Background and Aim: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious challenge to animal and human health worldwide. Therefore, this study aims to determine levels and patterns of AMR of Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. strains isolated from poultry farms in Côte d'Ivoire. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two districts of Côte d'Ivoire with high poultry production: Abidjan and Agnibilékrou. A total of 231 fecal samples were collected in 124 poultry farms in both districts. Enterobacteria were isolated and tested for susceptibility to 14 antimicrobial agents using the disk-diffusion method. Results: A total of 212 E. coli and 36 Salmonella strains were isolated. In Abidjan, 139 collected samples generated 101 E. coli and 23 Salmonella strains, whereas in Agnibilékrou, 92 collected samples generated 111 E. coli and 13 Salmonella strains. Variable resistance levels were recorded for the antibiotics tested. The resistance prevalence of E. coli and Salmonella, respectively, was high: Doxycycline (98%/94%), sulfonamide (84%/86%), trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (80%/41%), and streptomycin (71%/52%). Average resistance rates were recorded for flumequine (38%/66%), ampicillin (49%/33%), amoxicillin (25%/44%), colistin (26%/2%), chloramphenicol (21%/2%), and gentamicin (4%/47%). The antibiotics least affected by resistance were cefuroxime (4%/5%), ceftriaxone (2%/0.00%), and nitrofurantoin (1%/0.00%). Conclusion: In this study, it was observed that resistance to important antibiotics is emerging in poultry production in Côte d'Ivoire. Policies promoting the rational use of antibiotics should be implemented to manage antibiotic resistance in animal production.

This article aims to explain the social categorization mechanism that governs the world of cybercriminals. It is therefore a practical review of the "grazer" including festive practices (sex, alcohol, psychotropic, etc.) that the ethnographic approach allowed to do. The analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data, put light on the complexity of the social processes of the Ivorian typologisation cybercriminal and festive practices related thereto. Thus the daily "bulldozer" and the ritualistic nature of existing social practices were observed over one year (February 2012 - January 2013), among 250 respondents of which 100 criminals on all 10 districts of Abidjan. This allowed to go to the evidence that festive practices are the ends pursued scams grazers. They determine their belonging to a category of cybercriminals while strengthening the perpetuation of scams on the web activities.

Abstract:
Referencias Alam, S. (2017).
