This dissertation focuses on the occlusion of 'other' voices within the discourse of colonialism and slavery. The work juxtaposes four texts from the seventeenth and twentiethcenturies, respectively, as a way of examining the continued weight of past history on our postcolonial present. The theoretical framework is drawn from postcolonial and postmodern literary theory with an emphasis on the problematics of speaking for the 'other' in twentiethcentury literary revisions.

This thesis investigates the generation of Christian meaning via the performance of instrumental music (IM) separate from text within Christian worship. IM is non-verbal, purely qualitative, and lacking in conventional theological reference. The purpose of this study was to ascertain if conditions or combinations of conditions existed within Oklahoma public schools that created inequities in the availability of classroom Internet connections. A stratified random sample of the 471 school districts was used to identify 300 specific schools for the purpose of data analysis. A thematic analysis of marginalized and commonly occurring voices in the novel reveals discrepancies along an ethnic divide.
