Full textThis research is the first case study on the dubbing process in Peru. Based on the dubbing process models by Chaume (2004) and Taylor (2016), and the guidelines to prepare a dubbing script described by Cerezo et al. (2016) built on Toury (1995), the dubbing process for two films implemented by the Peruvian company Torre A was analyzed. This was carried out through interviews with the agents from both projects and the analysis of the company’s documents. The results suggest that project execution in Torre A is largely similar to the theoretical models concerning the dubbing process structure. However, both processes were determined by each client’s order, which mainly influenced the commercial negotiation nature, technical aspects, as well as the translation and dialogue writing phases. Furthermore, the results show agents’ multitasking and less role compartmentalization due to their participation in more than one phase during the process. Finally, in order to assess quality in both dubbing processes, Torre A considered textual, artistic and technical aspects according to the clients’ and agents’ criteria. That way, process quality was influenced by the level of involvement of each client and deadlines, which conditioned the agents’ activities. This research contributes to the discussion on dubbing quality in terms of client orders and helps filling the theoretical gap about dubbing processes in Latin America.

López, Napa Jahaira Ivy Nadehira, and La Torre Fabiola Fiorella Rodríguez. "Análisis de la traducción de referentes culturales y estereotipos presentes en el doblaje de la película White Chicks." Bachelor's thesis, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10757/648853.
Full textThe following paper analyses the translation of stereotypes and cultural references in the film White Chicks. The main objective is to identify the translation techniques and methods used to portray the different cultural references and stereotypes in the dubbed version of the film. In addition, the research approach is qualitative, conducted in the interpretative paradigm, and based on a contrastive corpus analysis. Regarding the results of this study, the most used techniques were: literal translation (18 segments), most frequently used for segments that do not have an equivalent in the target language, and discursive creativity (10 segments) for the translation of humour and jokes with cultural references without an equivalente in the target language. Although results showed a fidelity to the source text, the translation method applied was interpretative-communicative (Molina & Hurtado, 2001), identified through an analysis using an adapted version of Venuti’s continuum (1995).

"Representación del camp talk en el doblaje al español latinoamericano de dos películas LGTB+ de los años 90: The Birdcage y To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar." Bachelor's thesis, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10757/657101.
Full textCamp talk is a form of expression constructed through speech, and this represents the identity of a community, as is the case of the identity of the LGTB+ community. This form of expression has been represented in several film productions, as well as in novels and theatre plays, and has been translated from English into other languages. Although there is research about camp talk translation, these studies are limited, especially those in the 90s. At that decade, spanish equivalents for the vocabulary used by the LGTB+ community were just being constructed through the first translations of mass consumer products such as movies or series. The translation of camp talk is considered a problem since, in order to maintain the identity of the LGTB+ community, the target text must fulfill the communicative function of the source text and consider the equivalents of the vocabulary used by the LGTB+ community. Therefore, the present research focuses on two LGTB+ films from the 90s, The Birdcage and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, to analyze the function of camp talk and the techniques used for its translation. To obtain the results, two techniques will be used: content analysis, to analyze the functions of camp talk in the original English version and contrastive textual analysis to analyze the Latin American Spanish translation of camp talk and to identify the translation techniques used.

"Análisis de la traducción de los rasgos sociolectales en el doblaje y subtitulación al español latinoamericano de la película Dallas Buyers Club." Bachelor's thesis, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10757/651894.
Full textThis study addresses the translation of linguistic variation, focusing on the idiolects and sociolects of Ron Woodroof and Rayon, the two main characters of Dallas Buyers Club (Jean-Marc Vallée, 2013) whose linguistic diversities construct their identity and characterize their communication. Set in the southern state of Texas, it is possible to identify a noticeable southern dialect on Ron’s side and a higher social class sociolect on Rayon’s. This research aims to analyze how the individual linguistic aspects of these characters’ idiolect were translated in the Latin American dubbed and subtitled version of the film in order to recognize the translation techniques employed, which reached a standardized conception of both characters in the target language. It is accurate to start from the notion of constrained translation as well as the aspects that condition the work of an audiovisual translator and prevent him or her from achieving a dynamic equivalence regarding the source text (Mayoral, Kelly & Gallardo, 1988). Likewise, in Dallas Buyers Club, the presence of South American English and its linguistic nuances are important aspects whose connotative meaning is neutralized in dubbing as well as its grammatical characteristics in subtitling.
