Abstract:
The article discusses one of the problems of audiovisual translation – translation of documentary films, taking “A Life in Japan” by a Swedish director Petri Storlopare as an example. The choice of the film was determined by the presence of difficult situations from the point of view of translation, as well as by the lack of Russian translation. The paper considers typical characteristics of an operational interview which is an important constituent of the film under study. Special attention is given to the problem of synphase in voice-over translation. The topic is relevant as there are no fundamental theoretical papers devoted to translation of documentaries, both in domestic and foreign translation studies. The main goal was to consider the existing algorithms and strategies of audiovisual translation and to find the most optimal ways of translating the definite documentary film. We employed the following methods of analyzing the data: comparative analysis, lexicographic analysis, contextual analysis and communicative analysis. The conducted research allows to define the main problems of translating documentaries, they include transmitting the meaning of realia of another country’s culture and solving the “phase shift” problem when syncing the text in voice-over translation. In this paper we tried to account for our own translation solutions. The research has shown that it is possible to achieve adequacy of translation by using compression, a certain set of transformations and techniques for transferring the meaning of culturally marked lexical units.

Abstract:
Based on the concept of translational eco-environment, oriental ecological wisdom, and the Darwinian principle of natural selection, the concepts of eco-translatology and relevant theoretical ideas were proposed and explained by Professor Hu Gengshen from 2001 on. This interdisciplinary theory of translation studies and ecology considers translation as a translator's adaptation and selection activities, and its translation methods include the linguistic, cultural, and communication aspects. Eight Hundred Years of Chu State is a large-scale documentary about Chu culture. It systematically tells about the great history of the 800 years of Chu State, interpreting the brilliant and splendid civilization of Chu with its magnificent cultural relics, and revealing the laws worth pondering behind its ups and downs. Taking as examples the Chinese-English subtitle translations of the documentary Eight Hundred Years of Chu State, this paper aims to take the interdisciplinary theoretical perspective of eco-translatology to explore its implications for documentary translation from the linguistic, cultural, and communicative dimensions. Aiming also to improve the English translation of Chinese-made documentaries to a higher level, this paper hopes to promote the spread of Chinese traditional culture, especially Jingchu culture, and to enhance the world's understanding of China and its splendid culture.

Abstract:
There are no rules for translation. Translation is a decision-making process, and each decision point involves uncertainty. In the following article, I would like to show how, from a skopos-theoretical perspective, a top-down procedure can at least reduce uncertainty to some degree. The top level is that of the translation brief, which determines the choice of translation type and form. This is a binary decision. A documentary translation usually “documents” the pragmatics of the source text, whereas an instrumental translation gets a pragmatics of its own, for example with regard to deixis. At the next level, the translator has to deal with cultural norms and conventions. Here, the decision becomes more complex because the brief may require the reproduction of some source-culture behaviours and the adaptation of others to target-culture conventions, both in documentary and instrumental translations. The next level is that of language. We may safely assume that most translations are expected to conform to the norms of the target-language system, but there may be cases where source-language norms have to be reproduced, for example in an interlinear translation for linguistic purposes. At the last two levels, the remaining doubts have to be resolved first in line with contextual restrictions and, ultimately, the translator’s personal preferences, if necessary.

Based on the principle of truth, the documentary exchanges knowledge and conveys emotions. The documentary Wild China has received strong attention from domestic and foreign audiences since its launch on National Geographic. However, due to the differences between Chinese and Western cultures, most Chinese viewers need subtitle translation to have a better understanding of this documentary. Unlike the subtitle translation of films and TV plays, the content of the documentary has strong professionalism and knowledge. Thus, documentary subtitle translation requirements are also higher than those of films and TV plays. Meanwhile, it is necessary to discuss the subtitle translation of documentaries. Ecological translation was first proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen. In the past ten years, many remarkable research results have been achieved. Taking ecological translation as the theoretical support, this paper chooses the subtitle translation of the documentary Wild China (CCTV) as the research object, and combines the theoretical discussion and the case analysis to focus on the translator’s “adaptation” and “selection” in the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions, thus verifying the guiding significance of eco-translatology to the subtitle translation of the documentary and supplementing the theoretical research perspective of subtitle translation of the documentary.

Abstract:
The present study investigated the important role higher education plays in the success of the translator in his/her profession. To end this, the researcher prepared a translation test consisting of 12 short literary texts for data collection from both educated and uneducated translators who were equally divided into two groups. The 20 judges were invited to judge the level of communicative function of the translations made by both groups of translators on the basis of a five-point scale on a continuum from "Uncommunicative" to "Communicative" that was designed according to Nord’s (2018) functionalist approach. As the results indicated, the educated translators produced the highest communicative translations that put into Nord’s instrumental translation category. By contrast, the uneducated translators made the translations with the average level of communication that led their translation to be placed into documentary translation category. In conclusion, the educated translators, who held a master’s degree in Translation Studies, were more successful in producing communicative translations because of their profound knowledge of translation theories and mastery over translation strategies. This gives the indication of the utmost importance of higher education in the achievement of the translators in their career.

Journalism about West Papua is in many ways an act of translation. It involves not only translating between languages, but also disciplines, audiences and knowledges. This article examines how interdisciplinary research—such as anthropology and history— might intersect with journalism as a means to understand and challenge existing gaps in translation, or ‘silences’ about West Papua in the past and present. It also reflects on how audio documentaries carry out such translation work on misunderstood and underreported issues. To illustrate this, the author reflects on the process of making the audio documentary #Illridewithyou, West Papua for ABC Radio National’s Earshot documentary programme as well as a companion long-form article for the ABC’s website.

Abstract This article introduces the concept of ‘photo-translation’ for studying documentary photography as a collaborative practice of visual translation. The visual-translational approach to photo documentation is applied in a novel way to the emerging field of contemporary migration photography, thus relating recent theoretical connections between translation and migration studies to explorations in visual studies. The study discusses how participatory and collaborative practices are increasingly used in contemporary photo documentation to challenge, if not remove, the relational ‘othering’ effect inherent in the photo-documentary representation of refugees, migrants and displaced peoples. The potential of translaboration as a mode of translational collaboration is explored through an in-depth analysis of two photo projects: (1) the participatory photo project Fotohistorias (Gomez and Vannini 2015), conducted by social and information scientists Ricardo Gomez and Sara Vannini in cooperation with migrants at the US–Mexico border; and (2) the collaborative photo–graphic novel project Lampedusa: Image Stories from the Edge of Europe (Migrant Image Research Group 2017), carried out by the Migrant Image Research Group under the guidance of Armin Linke. Demanding agency in visual translation proves to be essential for these participatory photo projects, since they aim to challenge dominant visual representations of how migration is narrated and represented in the media and academic discourse. For this reason, the investigation draws on new sociological approaches in Translation Studies in order to frame photo-translation as a social practice and as a form of (activist) engagement involving various agents and institutions.

This paper adopts Nida's Functional Equivalence theory and studies the Chinese-English subtitle translation of the documentary China’s Fight against Covid-19, which was filmed and broadcast throughout China amid the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the year 2020, and it received positive responses in the country. The research objective is to find out the translation strategies, methods and skills involved in achieving the “most natural” and the “most closest” English expressions to the Chinese source text. In the study, investigations on the equivalence of Lexical level, Syntactical level, Contextual level and Textual level in the subtitle are conducted respectively, and the aforementioned translation aspects are discussed under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence. The key findings are that the translated texts adopt literal and liberal translation to deal with the Culture-loaded words and four-character idioms on a lexical level. While sentence restructuring, conversion of voice, and conjunction and present particle are used on the syntactic level to make source language and translated subtitle more coherent and authentic. On the contextual and textual level, the target text distinguishes the formal and informal languages through the sentence length and the complexity of the structure. This study offers a practical implication for translating Chinese pandemic discourses into English, and it can also shed light on the study of Chinese narratives during the COVID outbreak and the publicity of the Chinese countermeasures.

Il progetto ha avuto un duplice scopo: sperimentare il voice-over, una modalità legata in Italia e in Europa Occidentale al documentario e al non-fiction in generale, su uno dei nuovi tipi di prodotti non-fiction di Internet, e analizzare la percezione degli elementi culturospecifici presenti da parte di un pubblico della cultura d'arrivo che grazie a Internet potrebbe avere avuto maggiori contatti sia con prodotti audiovisivi americani che con la cultura del Web, ancora prevalentemente anglofona.

This dissertation focuses on the translation mode for audiovisual products known as voice-over. This practice has always been neglected by Translation Studies, in favour of more popular translation methods such as dubbing and subtitling. However, it is often ignored that voice-over is the preferred translation mode for the non-fiction genre. Moreover, it is gaining increasing popularity due to its inexpensive and fast approach, and as such it deserves more attention. Through the translation of Utopia, a documentary on native Australians by John Pilger, this study aims at providing a work pattern for voice-over translation, and a quantitative and qualitative analysis of a defining element of this translation mode: synchronization techniques. The analysis is thus based on the classification of the four different types of voice-over synchronies proposed by Franco, Matamala, and Orero (2010): voice-over isochrony, literal synchrony, kinetic synchrony, and action synchrony.

Cette thèse analyse les stratégies de traduction et l'acquisition de connaissances à partir d'entretiens et de questionnaires envoyés à des traducteurs techniques indépendants. L'objectif est de voir si les stratégies de traduction sont influencées par des facteurs que le traducteur peut plus ou moins maîtriser et si l'expérience, la formation en traduction et-ou dans un domaine et, les langues de travail jouent aussi un rôle. Il apparaît que la pression du temps influence la décision d'accepter ou de refuser une traduction et que sous cette pression, le traducteur ne consulte pas les mêmes documents, acquiert moins de connaissances et, passe moins de temps à l'archivage. Le manque de sources pose des problèmes aux traducteurs de langues peu répandues. La création terminologique, l'analyse du texte, l'aide de la source humaine et l'archivage des informations sont plus systématiques pour ces traducteurs que pour ceux de langues répandues. Le traducteur spécialisé attache moins d'importance à la technicité du texte de départ que celui sans spécialisation, achète plus de documents et évalue plus facilement le temps qu'il consacrera à la recherche documentaire. Les " jeunes " traducteurs voient un lien fort entre la technicité du texte et sa difficulté, préfèrent utiliser des sources donnant des réponses immédiates aux problèmes, consultent et achètent moins de sources sur support papier que les traducteurs expérimentés. Internet a marginalisé l'utilisation et les achats de sources sur support papier mais ne permet pas forcément de se spécialiser. Avec Internet, le client accorde des délais plus courts et les traducteurs acceptent de traduire des textes plus techniques.

Abstract:
This study is an analysis of the process of creating subtitles for the National Geographic documentary Fight Science: Mixed Martial Arts. The difficulties encountered during this project have included the translation of subject-specific terminology, the handling of source-text mistakes and the process of deciding how to condense the spoken dialogue when writing the subtitles. By studying these issues, certain conclusion can be drawn about the difficulties encountered when creating subtitles and translating texts with subject-specific terminology. The study is primarily based on the theories of Runo Ingo (2007), Vinay & Darbelnet (1977) and Chesterman & Wagner (2002). To find appropriate translations for subject-specific terminology, it is important to understand which translation device should be used (for example a loan or literal translation) through the examination of parallel texts and it is important that the translator be familiar with this terminology. How to properly handle mistakes in the source material depends greatly on the situation, the text concerned and the translator’s judgment. Decisions about which information can be omitted can be based on the information’s importance to the overall understanding of the show or the implicit nature of the information. The science of translation can be considered vague, but there exist theories and principles to aid translators when making such touch decisions as those encountered during this project.

Abstract:
The aim of this essay is to investigate the translation problems translating a travel book about Paris, with cultural and historic connotations, from French, source language, into Swedish, target language. The method that is used is Nords’ text analysis model, which is functionalist and pragmatic. Her theory of action is based on Vermeers’ skopos theorie and on Reiss’ text typology. Nords’ looping model includes analysis, transfer and synthesis. She focuses on three important aspects which are the translation brief, the role of the source-text analysis and the importance of the functional hierarchy of translation problems. Nord proposes two different translation strategies: Documentary translation and Instrumental translation. The first one is source text oriented and the second one is target text oriented. Our study focuses on pragmatic and cultural equivalence concerning the different aspects as style, lexis (vocabulary) and syntax in the source language and the translation into the target language. The purpose of the translation is target text oriented which means that different strategies, as adaptations and explanations, are used in the target text. The conclusions that are drawn from this study are that historical and cultural connotations, that are present in the source text, require a deep knowledge on the French culture and language, this being a necessary competence for the translator to produce a comprehensible translation for the target text audience.

En aquest treball exploratori s'estudien les conductes de cercad'informació a la web d'un total de sis participants (quatre estudiants de traducció en el seu primer any d'estudis de postgrau i dos traductors professionals amb tres i 15 anysd'experiència, respectivament). Atès que la necessitat de cercar, recuperar, utilitzar i generar informació depèn, entre molts altres factors, del tipus d'usuari i recerques documentals, aquest estudise centra en les cerques d'informació en línia realitzades a partir de la traducció de l'espanyol a l'anglès de dos textos dedivulgació científica. Els comportaments de recerca d'informació en línia dels participants de l'estudi s'analitzen per tant en relació a una sèrie de característiques textuals (encàrrec de traducció i text d'origen) i qualitats personals (nivell de coneixement sobre la temàtica de traducció, i nivell de coneixement i experiència tanten el camp de la traducció com en la recerca d'informació en línia). Tot i que s'han recopilat dades de tots els participants de l'estudi pel que fa a la primera tasca de traducció, les dades relatives a la segona tasca de traducció corresponen només als estudiants de traducció.
En este trabajo exploratorio se estudian las conductas de búsqueda de información en la Web de un total de seis participantes (cuatro estudiantes de traducción en su primer año de estudios de postgrado y dos traductores profesionales con tres y 15 años de experiencia, respectivamente). Dado que la necesidad de buscar, recuperar, utilizar y generar información depende, entre otros muchos factores, del tipo de usuario y búsquedas documentales, este estudio se centra en las búsquedas de información en línea realizadas a partir de la traducción del español al inglés de dos textos de divulgación científica. Los comportamientos de búsqueda de información de los participantes del estudio se analizan por tanto en relación a una serie de características textuales (encargo de traducción y texto de origen) y cualidades personales (nivel de conocimiento sobre la temática de traducción, y nivel de conocimiento y experiencia tanto en el campo de la traducción como en la búsqueda de información en línea). Si bien todos los participantes del estudio realizaron la primera tarea de traducción, solo los estudiantes llevaron a cabo la segunda tarea de traducción.
This multiple-case study explores the Web search behaviors of a total of six participants. These include a naturally occurring sample of four postgraduate translation trainees (in their first year of studies) who enrolled in an introductory course on technical and scientific translation, and two additional subjects (a PhD student of translation with three years of casual professional translation experience and a translation teacher with over 15 years of experience in the discipline) who participated in a pilot study conducted prior to the main study. Given that the need to seek, retrieve, use, and generate translation information depends on the type of users and the translation tasks performed, the study focuses on two specific tasks dealing with the translation of two popular-science texts from Spanish into English. In particular, the study examines the online search behaviors of all participants in relation to a number of translation task attributes (text type and translation brief) as well as user attributes (translation expertise, Web search expertise, and domain knowledge). While for the first task data was obtained from all six research participants, the second task was only carried out by the four translation trainees.

Este é um estudo sobre os escritos do cineasta Dziga Viértov e sobre a publicação desses documentos na União Soviética e, posteriormente, na Rússia. Na primeira parte deste trabalho, é analisado o primeiro momento de resgate da obra de Viértov na então URSS pouco após o falecimento do cineasta, em 1954. Relacionando esse processo ao contexto mais amplo do chamado Degelo e analisando o período que vai de 1957 a 1967, vemos como o redescobrimento dos filmes de Viértov correu em paralelo com o redescobrimento de sua obra escrita, através da publicação de seus artigos, diários e roteiros inéditos inicialmente em revistas e jornais, depois na primeira coletânea desses escritos a ser publicada na URSS, Statí. Dnevnikí. Zámisli (Artigos. Diários. Projetos), organizada por Serguei Drobachenko. Lançada em 1966 e fonte comum de todas as principais traduções de textos de Viértov hoje disponíveis em diversos idiomas, esta coletânea é aqui analisada criticamente: partindo de comentários de pesquisadores como Liév Rochál, Aleksandr Deriábin, John MacKay e Dária Krujkôva a respeito de imprecisões na reprodução dos textos no volume, sobretudo em relação a cortes realizados por motivos políticos, foi realizado para este trabalho um cotejo de todos os documentos incluídos em Statí. Dnevnikí. Zámisli com as versões desses mesmos materiais na recente edição Iz Nasliêdia da obra escrita de Viértov, publicada na Rússia em dois volumes (2004, 2008). A íntegra desse cotejo é apresentada como a Parte IV deste trabalho; na Parte I, a partir de exemplos concretos de artigos que foram modificados, são propostas e analisadas as características gerais dos cortes e reescrituras deliberadas realizadas pelo editor do volume, sendo ressaltados os limites - estéticos e políticos - deste primeiro momento de recuperação da obra do cineasta na então URSS. Na Parte II, partimos de diversos materiais incluídos na recente edição Iz Nasliêdia (em grande parte, até então inéditos) e também de documentos preservados no fundo de Viértov no RGALI, em Moscou, e no Österreichiche Filmmusem, em Viena, para estudar a \"última fase\" da carreira de Viértov, de 1938 a 1954, anos durante os quais o cineasta realiza poucos filmes, mas desenvolve mais de trinta projetos que acabaram não sendo realizados. Destacamos suas tentativas de realizar filmes infanto-juvenis, suas experiências durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, seus projetos de retratos de pessoas comuns, seus textos autoreflexivos da década de 1940 e os últimos artigos que escreve a partir de sua experiência no cinejornal Nôvosti Dniá, onde trabalhou de 1944 até sua morte em 1954. Na Parte III desta dissertação, são apresentadas traduções feitas a partir dos originais em russo (publicados em Iz Nasliêdia e preservados no RGALI e no Österreichiche Filmmusem) de catorze textos do cineasta comentados ao longo das partes I e II.
This is a work about the writings of Soviet filmmaker Dziga Vertov and their publication in Soviet Union and, more recently, in Russia. In its first part, we analyze the first wave of Vertov\'s posthumous recognition in the USSR after his death in 1954. Relating this process to the broader context of the so-called period of the Thaw and focusing on the time frame of 1957 to 1967, we discuss how the rediscovery of Vertov\'s films was accompanied by a rediscovery of his writings, through the publication of many previously unpublished articles, diaries and scripts initially in various film journals and newspapers and, in 1966, in the first collected edition of these materials to be published in the Soviet Union: Stat\'i. Dnevniki. Zamysly, organized by Sergei Drobashenko. As the main source for all of the most important translations of Vertov\'s writings to languages such as German, French and English, this edition is critically analyzed here: departing from commentaries by researchers such as Lev Roshal\', Aleksandr Deryabin, John MacKay and Daria Kruzhkova about the many imprecisions existent in the reproduction of Vertov\'s texts in this 1966 edition - such as the omission of certain paragraphs and sentences due to their political content -, a thorough comparative analysis was made for this work between all the texts included in Stat\'i. Dnevniki. Zamysly and the reproduction of these same materials in the recent Russian two-volume edition of Vertov\'s writings, Iz Nasledya (2004, 2008). The full text of this comparison is presented as Part IV of this work; in Part I, the general characteristics of these cuts and deliberate rewritings of certain passages within the texts, made by the volume\'s editor, are discussed on the basis of some concrete examples of documents that were considerably altered. By means of this analysis, we also discuss the aesthetical and political limits of this first wave of posthumous interest in Vertov in the USSR. In Part II, we depart from various materials included in the recent Iz Nasledya edition (many of which were previously unpublished) and also from documents preserved in Vertov\'s fund in the RGALI, in Moscow, and in the Dziga Vertov Collection of the Österreichische FIlmmuseum, in Vienna, to study the \"later period\" of Vertov\'s career, from 1938 to 1954, years during which he was able to make only a few films, but developed over 30 projects that remained unrealized. We discuss his unrealized projects for children\'s films, his experiences during the Second World War, his projects for portraits of ordinary people, his reflexive autobiographical texts of the 1940s and the last articles he wrote on the basis of his experience in the Novosti Dnia newsreel, which occupied Vertov from 1944 until his death in 1954. In Part III, we present translations to Portuguese from the Russian originals (published in the Iz Nasledya edition and preserved in the RGALI and in the Österreichische Filmmuseum) of fourteen of the filmmaker\'s texts commented in parts I and II of this work.

L'obiettivo di questo elaborato può essere considerato duplice. Prima di tutto, descrivere una situazione di lavoro reale nel campo della traduzione audiovisiva che ho vissuto durante la traduzione del documentario etnografico Afghan Cycles per la sua proiezione al festival Visioni a Catena di Bologna. In secondo luogo, si concentra sulla proposta di una traduzione adattata sotto forma di sottotitoli del suddetto documentario per la sua ipotetica diffusione su Netflix, di cui ho deciso di seguire le linee guida tecniche. Questa tesi di laurea è strutturata in quattro capitoli. Il primo capitolo si concentra sugli aspetti teorici della traduzione audiovisiva, evocandone le caratteristiche e concentrandosi principalmente sulla tipologia oggetto della tesi: la sottotitolazione. Il secondo capitolo tratta di un genere di testo audiovisivo unico, il documentario, presentando le sue caratteristiche e il suo rapporto con la traduzione audiovisiva, in particolare nel caso dei documentari etnografici. In questo capitolo, un breve spazio è dedicato al concetto di relay translation. Questo concetto descrive il tipo di traduzione trattata per questo lavoro, ed è molto comune nei documentari sui paesi con lingue minoritarie. Il terzo capitolo offre una panoramica della storia, della cultura e della società dell'Afghanistan, concentrandosi principalmente sulla condizione delle donne in questo Paese e su ciò che devono sopportare quotidianamente per sopravvivere. Infine, il quarto capitolo è composto da una prima parte che descrive il lavoro di traduzione che ho fatto per il festival, e da una seconda parte che propone l'analisi della mia traduzione finale. In quest'ultima, prendo in considerazione tutti gli elementi che sono stati modificati affinché fosse apprezzata dal pubblico italiano. In appendice, il lettore troverà la tabella della traduzione finale completa dei time code corrispondenti ai sottotitoli.

Assim, a AdaptaÃÃo do Conhecimento objetiva diminuir a lacuna temporal e conceitual que hà entre a produÃÃo do conhecimento e a prÃtica do usuÃrio final. Ela à essencial para se ter melhores resultados em cuidados de saÃde, alÃm de contribuir para a diminuiÃÃo de custos na utilizaÃÃo do conhecimento, disponibilizando o conhecimento certo, para a pessoa certa, em tempo certo. Como prova de conceito do estudo analÃtico realizado utilizou-se, como cenÃrio de aplicaÃÃo, o LARIISA, uma plataforma para a tomada de decisÃo em sistema de governanÃa em saÃde. O LARIISA utiliza, na especificaÃÃo de sua arquitetura, o modelo Knowledge to Action (KTA). Ele faz uso de sistemas inteligentes e da tecnologia de sensibilidade ao contexto (context-awareness), em sua concepÃÃo. O mÃtodo de coleta de dados utilizado foi a AnÃlise Documental do livro Knowledge Translation in Health Care e os cinco domÃnios de aplicaÃÃo da plataforma LARISSA: clÃnico-epidemiolÃgico, normativo, gestÃo do conhecimento, administrativo e gestÃo compartilhada. Isto permitiu a elaboraÃÃo de mapas conceituais que traduzem a abrangÃncia local e global do projeto LARIISA, resultando na construÃÃo de cenÃrios de aplicaÃÃo. Assim, este estudo caracteriza-se como um primeiro esforÃo analÃtico sobre a gestÃo do conhecimento na plataforma LARIISA, cujo resultado propÃe alteraÃÃes na proposta inicial da arquitetura do LARIISA.
Knowledge Translation in health care has been adopted to describe the methods used for dissemination of scientific evidence to several other related social actors. The intention is for this evidence to become more accessible to its final users (patients, health professionals, organizations and health managers) to cooperate in making decision in health. In this manner, Knowledge Translation has as objective to reduce the temporal and conceptual gap that extends between knowledge production and practice for the final user. This is essential in order to obtain better results in health care, along with contributing to the reduction of costs in knowledge utilization, providing the correct knowledge, to the correct person, at the correct moment. This is an analytic study on the Knowledge Translation process in integrated health systems. The study was based on the Knowledge to Action model (KTA), developed by researchers at the University of Toronto and the Canadian Institute of Health Research â CIHR, which has served as reference for the Canadian health system. As conceptual proof of the analytic study performed, we used as application scenario, LARIISA (Laboratoire Application RÃseaux Intelligence IntÃgration SantÃ), a platform for decision making in the governance of health systems. LARIISA uses, in its framework specification, the KTA model. It uses intelligent systems and context-awareness technology in its conception. Data collection method used was documental analysis from the âKnowledge Translation in Health Careâ book and the five application domains from the LARIISA platform: clinical-epidemiological, normative, knowledge management, administrative and shared management. This permitted the elaboration of conceptual maps that translate the local and global coverage of the LARIISA project, resulting in the construction of application scenarios. Thus, this study is characterized as the first analytic endeavor on knowledge management in the LARIISA platform, whose results propose alterations in the initial proposal of LARIISA framework.

The aim of this work is to offer a thorough definition of voice-over as an audiovisual translation mode, list and describe its distinctive features, comparing different opinions by various scholars, and implement them to adapt a real documentary film from US English into Italian, while showing the challenges found during the translation process, explaining how they were dealt with and providing a work-streamlining model for future translators. Voice-over has often been neglected in translation studies literature, but it has been recently matching the popularity it has in the audiovisual market, where it is the main mode of translation for non-fictional products, at least in the Western world. The film chosen for this dissertation is entitled I am fishead: are corporate leaders egotistical psychopath?, by Czech directors Misha Votruba and Vaclav Dejcmar. It deals mainly with psychopathy, and more specifically corporate psychopathy, as one can tell from the title, and the abuse of antidepressants and psychiatric medications in the USA.

This book includes key documents, along with annotation, related to the origin of the Book of Mormon, from Joseph Smith’s first mention of the gold plates to the book’s publication in 1830. Smith claimed that on the night of September 21–22, 1823, an angel, later identified as Moroni, appeared to him and informed him of an ancient record, inscribed on gold plates, buried in the nearby Hill Cumorah. Smith finally obtained the plates in 1827, and, assisted by Martin Harris, began translating in 1828. After Harris lost the first 116 pages of the manuscript, however, translation essentially ceased until 1829, when Oliver Cowdery arrived on the scene. The Book of Mormon, considered scripture by believers, was finally published in Palmyra, New York, in 1830. Key topics discussed in both introductions and endnotes include the question of whether Smith’s story of the angel actually originated as a treasure-seeking yarn, whether the gold plates actually existed, and whether the testimonies of the three witnesses and eight witnesses count as historical evidence.

The history of Shakespeare in Latin America spans roughly the same two hundred years as the region’s independent life. Throughout, his works have been the object of performance, translation, and adaptation more than of academic study and discussion. This essay offers a comprehensive framework for application to future work on the subject of Shakespeare performance in Latin America. The chief theoretical tools undepinning the essay are Haroldo de Campos and Silviano Santiago’s elaborations on ‘transcreation’, ‘cultural anthropophagy’, and ‘in-betweenness’. To outline significant common factors among Shakespeare performances in Latin America’s twenty Spanish-speaking nations, the chapter discusses two examples in depth: the first, a simple but powerful Mexican adaptation called Mendoza (2011); the second, an Italian documentary of a Cuban performance called Shakespeare in Avana: Altri Romeo, Altre Giuliette (2010). These analyses suggest the strengths of other Latin American acts of performance based on the complex phenomenon called Shakespeare.

Bartholomew of San Concordio translated his Documenta antiquorum into the vernacular presumably around 1297-1302, during his stay at the convent of Santa Maria Novella. Cesare Segre suggested such a date based on the dedication of the translation to Geri Spini, a Florentine banker and politician who was a supporter of the Black Guelfs and a close friend of Corso Donati. However, the relationships between the Dominican Friar and the Commune of Florence, as well as the potential connections between Bartholomew’s self-translation and Florentine political contingencies, are still to be investigated.

dLate in March 1829, Oliver Cowdery traveled from Manchester, New York, to Harmony, Pennsylvania, to assist Joseph Smith with the translation of the Book of Mormon. The two men had not met prior to this but begin translating on April 7 and translated at a furious pace, completing the project in about fifty-seven working days. Accounts from Pomeroy Tucker, Joseph Knight, and others offer views from both skeptics and believers. Cowdery’s letters to W. W. Phelps present the perspectives of both Cowdery and Smith. During this same period, Smith dictated several revelations that later were incorporated into the Book of Commandments and subsequently the Doctrine and Covenants.

Chapter Three shows how documentary film was a rich and chaotic site for nationalist, imperialist, and anti-imperialist experimentation. Introducing the female documentarian Atsugi Taka (1907-98) as a guide, the chapter demonstrates the development of the genre and show how practitioners worked within and around official ideologies and the restrictive media-scape. Atsugi is well-known for her translation of the theoretical treatise Documentary Film (1935) by British producer and theorist Paul Rotha. The book attracted an unexpectedly wide audience in Japan during WWII when documentary as genre flourished. Atsugi’s own films also present a tangled, complicated site of production where she navigated the gender politics of filmmaking and everyday life, state suppression of socialist and proletarian movements, and the problems of adapting socialist British theory to actual filmmaking in totalitarian Japan. Around June 1, 1829, David Whitmer arrived in Harmony, Pennsylvania, to move Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery to Fayette Township, New York, a journey of more than one hundred miles. With the help of David and his family, the translation was completed at the Whitmer farm by the end of June. Several individuals witnessed the translation, including David Whitmer and his sister, Elizabeth (future wife of Cowdery). During this same period, Jesse Smith wrote a hostile letter to Hyrum Smith—this is the first extant letter mentioning the Book of Mormon. This chapter also includes a contemporaneous letter from Oliver Cowdery to Hyrum Smith as well as Cowdery’s “Articles of the Church of Christ.”

The documents in this chapter cover events during the spring of 1828, when Joseph Smith and Martin Harris began the translation in Harmony, Pennsylvania. In the years following, Joseph stressed the miraculous nature of the translation but said little about the details. Key sources include letters from Joseph Smith, Ezra Booth, and Mathew Davis and interviews with Joseph Smith, Mrs. Doolittle, Michael Morse, and Martin Harris. Such documents show how Smith and Harris faced opposition from Emma’s father, Isaac Hale, and her uncle, minister Nathaniel Lewis. Whether Joseph used the spectacles associated with the Urim and Thummim or the seer stone to translate has been disputed, but Harris made it clear that he used both. By June, Joseph and Martin produced a manuscript of 116 pages.

The first chapter explores the foundations of documentary’s anthropological strain in the pseudo-ethnographies of Frances and Robert Flaherty and Osa and Martin Johnson, filmmaking couples working at the intersection of ethnography and nonfiction entertainment in the ’20s and ’30s. Both women worked in the looming shadows of their more famous husbands, and yet each woman played a significant role in their joint careers. Their gendered labor included a kind of emotional translation for films that projected visions of far-flung places in the world to audiences hungry for “authentic” images of the exotic. Thus, these early pioneers--and the complex and compromised legacy of gender and race that their stories animate--are vital episodes in the overarching narrative of women’s documentary filmmaking.

With the implementation of “go globally” strategy of Chinese culture, a large number of Chinese films and TV programs have been produced to go abroad. As a medium and carrier of cultural communication, the quality of documentary subtitle translation determines whether Chinese culture can be appropriately disseminated or not. This paper aims to investigate the translation strategies of culture-specific items with special focus on name of dishes. The object of study in this paper is A Bite of China 1 produced by CCTV in 2012, which is not only about Chinese foods but also geography, local customs and dietary habit. Firstly, by using comparative approach, the linguistic characteristics are discussed to identify the similarities and differences between source and translated dish names. Then the translation strategies for dish name are examined. Next, such factors affecting translation strategies as cultural ideology is analyzed. The objective of this paper is to study what translation strategies are possibly adopted when translating Chinese dish name into English in the documentary. The findings show that in the process of dish name translation of Chinese documentaries, domestication and foreignization are two frequently used strategies which is complementary to each other.

Se parte de la convicción de que hace falta ubicar a Humberto Rivas en una tradición de pensamiento estético, ya que las distintas lecturas que existen sobre su trabajo, aunque importantes, no han dejado de ser lecturas impresionistas que no han reflexionado en profundidad sobre su obra. Este artículo trata de ver a Rivas a partir de unas categorías estéticas. Para ello se remite a las reflexiones de Rafael Argullol para distinguir aquello propio del artista romántico, y a las aportaciones filosóficas de Eugenio Trías acerca de lo siniestro en la obra de arte, y las vincula a la obra de Humberto Rivas. La hipótesis inicial es de que Rivas no se sentía como un fotógrafo que atrapa momentos o documenta acontecimientos, sino como un creador, y su obra es resultado de un artista que se repliega sobre sí mismo con la intención de producir una imagen reflejo de su mundo interior, la cual se puede explicar desde la mente del artista romántico, aunque el contexto no sea el romanticismo. Por último, aunque el artículo hable sobre Humberto Rivas, también es una manera de construir un relato entre la imagen fotográfica y distintos valores estéticos que hacen parte la historia del arte. Abstract:The following article seeks to give a reading to the work of photographer Humberto Rivas, National Photography Prize and one of the greatest exponents of Spanish photography at the end of the 20th century. It is based on the conviction that it is necessary to locate Humberto Rivas in a translation of aesthetic thought, since the different readings that exist on his work, although important, have not ceased to be Impressionist readings that have not reflected in depth on his work . This article tries to see Rivas from some aesthetic categories. For this he refers to the reflections of Rafael Argullol to distinguish that of the romantic artist and the philosophical contributions of Eugenio Trías about the sinister in the work of art, and links them to the work of Humberto Rivas. The initial hypothesis is that Rivas did not feel like a photographer who catches moments or documents events, but as a creator, and his work is the result of an artist who recoils on himself with the intention of producing a reflex image of Its inner world, which can be explained, from the mind of the romantic artist although the context is not romanticism. Finally, although the article talks about Humberto Rivas, it is also a way to build a narrative between the photographic image and the values ​​that have served to interpret painting or sculpture in the history of art.
