Abstract:

The Dodgers, a professional team based in the New York borough of Brooklyn provide a remarkable illustration of the rarely studied interaction between urban identities, people's passion for sports and the history of entertainment businesses. From their birth in 1883 to their move to Los Angeles in 1957, the Dodgers have established themselves as Brooklyn's home-team to the extent that the two entities formed the two sides of the same coin to many. The club owners claimed that the team's identity was primarily local, while the borough's elite related it to an imagined « Brooklyn spirit » (righteous, colorful working-class and ethnically diverse), notably through its praise of the monumental Ebbets Field ballpark. This dissertation appraises the socio-historical mechanisms underpinning the making of such an homology between the city and the club. It lays special emphasis on historical longue durée and the workings of identity-formation in sports spectacles. By no means a product of essence, the city/club relationship resulted from a slow and undetermined construction emanating from both the top-down (the front-office, the press, the local elite) and the bottom-up (the fans, the players, local residents) The club was a story-telling device offering a wide range of consistent identities which enabled it to be a rallying point and facilitated its impact on major issues of its time beyond the realm of sport, such as progressivism youth training, the light against communism. Abstract:
Nearly 350 years of politically sanctioned domination over Blacks ended with the passage of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) in 1965. The federal regulation of voter and election law sought to end retrogressions in representation by intentional or effectual laws. In the VRA's wake, race based politics and policy rooted in White supremacy were curtailed with the gradual representation of communities of color in all levels of government. Shelby County v Holder (2013) obstructed progress by effectively terminating preclearance of legal changes by the federal government. Since Shelby, retrogression of voter registration is once again on the rise. Remedies for retrogression require litigation and matriculation through the courts. This process is time consuming and allows states to conduct election law with minimal interruption until decisions are rendered. Research predating the passage of the Voting Rights Act by Matthews and Prothro indicated that there was a significant correlation between growing minority populations and the severity of election and voter laws. This paper seeks to determine if growing minority populations, in part due to disproportionately large in-migration, correlates with declining voter registration rates. These voter registration rates are due to substantive legal changes and procedural enforcement changes. Retrogression in Black, White, and Latinx is shown in analyzing state voter registration data. Using a time-series multivariate analysis to compare impact on Black, Latinx, and White communities across counties in North Carolina and Alabama, this paper determines that growing minority populations and in-migration do not have consistent statistical significance in explaining declining voter registration rates for Blacks and Latinx communities based on data from the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey and the Alabama and North Carolina Board of Elections. Periodic retrogression in voter registration for the Black community show statistically significant positive associations with increasing population sizes. The Black community experiences retrogression via statistically significant negative associations in national election years, and Black voter registration rates recover in off-year elections. Data indicates that there may be a decrease in representation of larger minority communities that Black communities are able to overcome. There is a strong association between decreasing voter registration rates and larger Latinx communities while the opposite is true of Black communities. The Latinx community voter registration have statistically significant negative associations with increasing population sizes and during national election years, with recovering registration rates in off-year elections.
Master of Arts
Nearly 350 years of politically sanctioned domination over Blacks ended with the passage of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) in 1965. Abstract:
This thesis examines the rich and layered intertextual relationship between five artisticrepresentations of the razed neighborhoods of Chavez Ravine, Los Angeles, and its former residents. These works include Seattle-based photographer Don Normark’s 1999 photography collection Chávez Ravine, 1949: A Los Angeles Story; the full-length dramatic play Chavez Ravine, written and first performed by Los Angeles-based Chicano comedy troupe Culture Clash in 2003; Jordan Mechner’s 2004 short documentary film Chávez Ravine: A Los Angeles Story; Ry Cooder’s musical album Chávez Ravine: A Record by Ry Cooder; and lastly, high school history teacher Ken Aven’s 2006 debut novel, Chavez Ravine Echoes. Together, these five productions make up a case study that engages with the theoretical debate about privileged groups speaking for, or on behalf of, underrepresented groups. This analysis emphasizes a process of representation that is shared and driven by dialogue between the artists of these productions and the place and people they represent. Through the inclusion of resident involvement in the production process and the weaving of narrative elements from both Mexican American and dominant cultural traditions, these projects promote the Ravine’s cultural wealth and visibility within a popular culture dominated by the symbol of Dodger Stadium. This study, through close readings and textual analysis, demonstrates how these works, considered together, open up spaces for cross-cultural discussions about Chavez Ravine and the various roles it plays within U.S. cultural history. More importantly, these five representations of Chavez Ravine figuratively practice and promote a “speaking to and with” model of intercultural communication between dominant and minority cultures.

Abstract:
The remarks on this subject stem from the conditions spatial works engender in the encounter with the viewer. The aim has been to provide the reader with a framework within which to place individual experiences of the works. The exhibition Spatial Works, to which this research paper is connected, exemplifies variations within spatial work. By organizing an exhibition around this context, the variations presented is fleshed out. The research preceding the exhibition has resulted in the development of a specific terminology; an articulation of different practices in installation art. Psychodramatic, Thespian, Temporal and Permutation are here seen as mannerisms of spatial works of art. The expanded significance presented in this paper is a feature of composition, as the dramatic condition characterizes the encounter between object and subject. The polyphony of information encountered by the viewer is not only created by the art work itself, but also by its signifying composition, so to say `al fresco´ of the work, of which the observer gains certainty of the pieces spatiality as well as understands of the work of art.
WIRE, Critical Writing and Curatorial Practice

Abstract:

BACKGROUND The economic crimes related to the taxation authorities (SKM), aim at evading paying taxes and/or wrongly obtaining tax revenue. SKM has noticed that many newly established companies have intended to be carried on, only for a short period of time and with the aim of generating grant-revenues and in the meantime omit to pay or wrongly account for taxes. SKM wants to investigate the possibilities to develop a method of analysis to identify those corporations.

PURPOSE The purpose of this essay is to make a survey of, and identify companies, who fail in their obligations concerning income-tax return and paying taxes and charges and to try to see what is characteristic for those companies in order to find out a method of analysis. Further a study of literature will be done especially concerning who will commit economic crimes and the reasons why they do it.

REALISATION I have investigated how the 251 corporations which were registered for F-tax at the local tax office of Eastern Gothenburg (SKR) during 1996 have handled their settlements and income-tax returns from the registration1996 until 1998. I have worked with my essay under guidance of Olle Thegerström and I have under observance of the secrecy of the taxation authorities taken part of all information that have been necessary to fulfil this work.

RESULTS From the variables that I have used in my investigation I don't think that it is possible to develop a method to anticipate which companies who will fail in their obligations to SKM. That is not to say that there are not structures, which can anticipate how a company will develop. I think that it is values of the manager of business, which to a large extent direct how the company will act in different situations. His values influence in their turn a great number of factors. In that case a model would have to consist of unreasonably many variables related to individual performance. Such a model would be practically impossible and according to my opinion unacceptable from an ethical point of view to use in practice.

The morphology of seeds and of parts of the seedlings or saplings (tegument, radicles, hypocotyl and cotyledon leaves, and definitive leaves) have also been studied by means of electronic scanning microscopy techniques. The transmission of X. vesicatoria from the plant to the seed has been evaluated upon direct and indirect isolation of parts of ripe fruit (flesh, placenta, placental liquid, water from the first washing of the seeds, entire seeds and ground seeds) in a culture of Agar Nutrient (AN). The fruit were obtained in experimental parcels, conducted at the Horticultural sector of UFRRJ, and inoculated with the phytobacteria through different methods (atomization and injection) combined with different regions of inoculation (flower cluster, flesh, and placenta), during the plant s developing phases (flower, unripened fruit, firm ripe and ripe fruit). The transmission of the phytobacteria from the seeds to the seedlings and saplings was assessed by means of isolating in an AN medium parts of the seedling or sapling (root, tegument, radicles, hypocotyl and cotyledon leaves, and definitive leaves), germinated in different substrata ( germitest paper, sand, and commercialized substrate for saplings). The morphology of seeds and parts of the seedlings was characterized through observations in electron microscope scanning by using samples of fresh seeds (extracted from inoculated fruit), of parts of seedlings or saplings (tegument, radicles, hypocotyl and cotyledon leaves, and definitive leaves) and of seeds inoculated by vacuum procedure at 7, 14, and 21 days after sowing. The treatments applied to the unripened fruit (inoculation by atomization, injection in the placenta and injection in the flesh) were more efficient in the process of transmitting the phytobacteria than the treatment applied to the firm ripe and ripe fruit. It was also observed that the X vesicatoria colonizes the tegument and every part of the seedlings and saplings during the process of germination and emergence. The seed tegument was characterized by an entanglement of trichomes, with a base in the shape of ring and cavity, which may serve as sheltering sites for pathogens, including the X vesicatoria. The process of colonization of tomato seeds by X vesicatoria characterizes itself by the formation of biofilms and fibrils. The presence of stomata colonized by X vesicatoria has been observed in radicles, of seven day old seedlings, and in primary roots originated from the radicles of 20 day old saplings. Few cells of X vesicatoria have been observed on the hypocotyl. The presence of endophytic bacteria forming aggregates with characteristics of an aggressive growth identified as Acinetobacter sp. was detected in many samples of seeds. These same bacteria were detected in many tests of germination and isolation, interfering negatively in the development and recuperation of X vesicatoria in the in vitro tests.

Abstract:
To date, there has been no comprehensive analysis of the nature of historic commemoration in the American West. Through case studies of the three towns most commonly associated with the Old West; Deadwood, South Dakota; Tombstone, Arizona; and Dodge City, Kansas; this dissertation explores the nature of the political economy of memory in the American West. From the time of their respective founding in the 1870s, each town acquired a "wicked" past from the embellishment of actual events by journalists and dime novelists, and became famous through their association with well-known figures such as Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Bat Masterson, and Wyatt Earp. Characteristic of each town's reputation were regular images of immorality and disorder violence, drinking, gambling, prostitution, political corruption, and ramshackle architecture. Following the end of each town's boom period, boosters actively sought to distance themselves from their pasts by promoting their communities as modern, stable, pious, and law-abiding. After World War I, downturns in local economies and the opportunity to capitalize on tourism led local leaders to reconsider the value of their town's unsavory reputations. Working through chambers of commerce, leaders transformed what was once a working class memory into a commodity by marking sites, creating attractions, and creating civic celebrations to match the expectations of tourists seeking to experience the Old West they had witnessed in films and television. At the same time, towns sought to authenticate the wild west moment through historic preservation, building museums, and achieving official national recognition. These efforts, however, illustrated the ambiguity of what authentication and the Old West actually meant as each town became contested terrain between business interests, preservationists, and professional historians. By the end of the twentieth century, so ingrained were the constructed and authenticated versions of abstracted moments of the past into the fabric of the community, that fantasy and reality became indistinguishable.

Abstract:

In this study, two types of physical parametric models built using a combination of springs, masses and links are introduced for a vehicle frontal crash study. In addition, two 5DOF linear parametric models (LMS) are proposed and checked, based on the previous investigation made by Mr Javad Marzbanrad and Mostafa Pahlavani. The values of spring and dampers have been determined using an optimisation of deceleration, considering the numerical results from finite element and experimental results. These determined values have been calculated on the basis of minimisation of the root mean square of the difference between simulated and experimental results as occurred for occupants in the frontal crash.

Abstract:
Until World War Two, most of the physicians working in the Navajo reservation antagonized the traditional healers, the hataalis. In the 1950’s, missionary and public health-care providers gradually acknowledged the existence of their patients’ religious beliefs. With a growing number of Navajos attending medical school in the 1960’s and 1970’s, most of the patients’ fears were overcome but tradition was increasingly threatened by new emerging groups such as the Native American Church and incentives were needed to convince young Navajos to become hataalis. What experiments and groups favoured or hindered the transmission of the different forms of medical knowledge? The Navajo health care system illustrates the existence of antagonistic forces that continue to shape the lives of the Diné

The routine games from 2008 to 2011 between LAD and SF of MLB are used as examples. There were 18 games per year, a total of 72 games, of which 54 are adopted as training data of neural network model for predicting the last 18 games in 2011 and the games held on May 8th, 9th and 10th of 2012. Thus a total of 21 games are the primary test data. This study analyzes and integrates the data recorded after each routine game between LAD and SF, established the critical factors affecting game outcomes, and uses neural network technology to predict the winning team. In aspect of offense, critical factors include HR, RBI, AVG and OBP; in aspect of pitcher, factors include IP, HR, AVG and WHIP. The neural network model adopts the back-error propagation neural network model for its stability, and easiness to converge and learn. This model is compared with other models which applied statistical methods, and the results show that the neural network model is viable for prediction of non-linear models, and can be used to understand the extent of impact of these critical factors on the games.

Abstract:
abstract: In 1981, Fernando Valenzuela had one of the most unlikely rookie seasons for theLos Angeles Dodgers. Originally from a rural farm town in northern Mexico, he left an enduring legacy that persists within Mexican/American and Latinx fans and communities throughout Los Angeles. Not only did Fernando help the Dodgers capture the World Series, he captured the hearts of the people and the communities who had shunned the Dodgers for decades. This act of protest was a response to the destruction of three neighborhoods—La Paloma, Palo Verde, and Bishop—that were destroyed amid a protracted legal battle with the city of Los Angeles throughout the 1950’s that culminated in coercion, violence, and a new baseball stadium. This project intends to remember the neighborhoods of La Paloma, Palo Verde, and Bishop and those who lost their homes alongside the public memory of Fernando Valenzuela’s unlikely rookie season, dubbed Fernandomania, and his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. I illumine how the public memories of Fernandomania, a moment of communitas, and Fernando Valenzuela have facilitated the public forgetting of La Loma, Palo Verde, and Bishop by making Chavez Ravine into a novel public idiom for American baseball rather than a site of violence and resistance. In the process of facilitating the public forgetting of these neighborhoods, the sports media commits a pernicious discursive violence upon Fernando Valenzuela’s hyper-visible brown body that reveals the workings of a white racial frame designed to protect American baseball’s white masculine ideology. Ultimately, the Los Angeles Dodgers benefit from Fernando’s unmistakably cultural and racial Mexican identity—the source of his otherization and incongruity with American baseball’s white heroism—as the transgressions of the past are slowly forgotten.
Dissertation/Thesis
Doctoral Dissertation Communication 2020

Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is an evolutionary algorithm introduced by Kennedy and Eberhart in 1995, which simulates social behavior of birds to solve optimization problems. The particle swarm optimizer (PSO) has exhibited good performance on unimodal problem. But on multimodal function it tends to suffer from premature convergence and fall into local optimal. Dodge strategy can maintain diversity and avoid convergence to local optimal. The MG-PSO with multi-group framework and dodge strategy is to prevent particle groups from searching the same region. In the experiments, we used some benchmarks functions to evaluate the performance of MG-PSO and compared with different PSO.

The questionnaire was using stratified sampling to dodge ball team in Hsinchu. This study had 250 questionnaires, and affective questionnaires were 225. This affective rate was 90%.The research used SPSS12.0, including reliability and validity analysis, statistical analysis, Ttest, single factor analysis and correlation analysis. The result as follows: 1. The situation of leadership behavior on learning effectiveness: Leadership behavior was perceived by dodge ball players in Hsinchu: On the level of “Training and directing “, the highest was “telling things to do and not to do”. On the level of ‘autocratic behavior’, the lowest was “explaining nothing about the training directing”. Learning effectiveness was perceived by dodge ball players in Hsinchu: On the level of “Perception “, the highest was “I know how to use dodge ball equipment correctly”. On the other hand, the lowest was “I know how to improve my physical fitness and skills”. 2. The relationship between leadership behavior on learning effectiveness: The significant positive correlation included “perception”, “sentiment”, “skill”, and “actual performance” on the “training and directing” and “democratic behavior” of “leadership behavior”. The negative correlation was “skill” on “rewards behavior” and “care behavior” of “leadership behavior”. The negative correlation included “perception”, “sentiment”, and “skill” on autocratic behavior. 3. The differences between players’ background and leadership behavior on learning effectiveness were perceived by players: The significant change depended on the time to get along with the leader (grade, team year, and practice days of a week) and the players’ position of leadership behavior on learning effectiveness. As the result, the leadership behavior could improve the learning effectiveness if the leader gave a democratic chance to discuss training content and competition tactics with players in dodge ball team. Especially in perception, players planed their suitable training ways as their physical fitness and skills. Moreover, players would develop the ability of independent thinking and resolving. The results could be references to leaders in dodge ball team.

Insisting on doing the right things to students, the teachers devote to their education career quietly, no applause and no significant status. Just being good teachers are taken as a matter of course. However, those who delicate silently are the keys to make people touched deeply. Finally, I find out the core of the story by means of the touched story and team members. The main purposes of this study are: 1.the manifestation of the education love, touched and aesthetic experiences under the teacher- student relationship; 2.the influences for the students by the interaction of the teacher- student relationship And the field of this study portrayed that the dodge ball team coach and players, those happiness and tears, strived for the honors in the elementary school. In order to be a true love legend for the teacher- student story, I discussed the key factors to affect the dodge ball team students, and furthermore transferred to be the aesthetic experiences of eternity, which is based on the “The Five Steps of Qualitative Data Analysis” of narrative- research model. From teacher’s viewpoints, the meanings of education love for the fadeless teacher-student relationship are: 1.That Love is the teacher hold on the straight to the end; 2.That Love is the student’s strong re-action derived from his feeling; 3.That Love is the student’s close and continuous interaction from the daily life; 4.The Love is glorious experience of sharing the student’s growth, due to the teacher’s patience. From students’ viewpoints, the meanings of touched for the fadeless teacher-student relationship are: 1.That touched is the memory existing eternity; 2.That touched is learning well for cherishing himself or herself; 3.That touched is the common language in reality, as well as coming from the deep heart to aspire the supreme affections; 4.That touched is the satisfaction from the identification by colleagues. From my point of view, the meanings of aesthetic experience for the fadeless teacher-student relationship are: 1.That aesthetic experience for the teacher-student relationship is true essence of life is affirmative and accompanying each other from the day- to- day; 2.That aesthetic experience for the teacher is entering into soul of students; 3.That aesthetic experience is an interplay between teacher and student under a sharing atmosphere; 4.That aesthetic experience for the teacher-student relationship is forward to the moment for the perpetual life. Abstract:
88
Abstract The objective of this research is to promote the right of equality education for both genders based on “respecting difference”. Through realizing of the education in dodge ball at primary school, all teachers and students can understand the damage to athletic education by gender stereotyped insights. Furthermore, make students share experience and certify their own exercise abilities. The subjects of this research are the sixth grade students and their athletic instructors in one of Taipei’s primary school. The methods are interviews and observations. From April 1999 to April 2000, totally 24 times of present observations and 36 interviews are conducted. Due to the countless hidden labeled perceptions in the culture of dodge ball, the essay only focuses on the following subjects: 1. The alienated culture in exercise: states from the exercise natural, the exercise process, and the exercise results. A. The exercise natural. In school, dodge ball is a social behavior from the society point of view. The limitation to female in exercise structure, such as leadership, occupied lots, strengthens the female’s participating willing under paternal society. Secondly, many students, not only boys but girls, only participate dodge ball in “listening” and “watching”. B. The exercise process. The emphasis of skill-oriented makes the win or lose replaces interests and funs to become the objective of exercise in dodge ball. It also gets rid off poor-skills persons to join in. Another emphasis of administration-oriented makes instructors and students unharmonious and poor relationship because the instructor’s dominates the skills, rules, records, and even organization. C. The exercise results. The interaction of human, culture, and society makes the specialized in rank and makes students separated from dodge ball. 2. The exercise space allocation and deprivation A. Under physics space: we can find the division of laber and interaction principle of dodge ball. B. Under society space: we can find interaction patterns, content, and rhythm of man. 3. The stereotyped gender prejudice The constructions of physical teachers’ stereotyped gender which can effect dodge ball teaching betwin teacher and student, result in reproducing stereotyped gender to the student. 4. The analyses of stereotyped gender prejudice''' In this study we can find that students’ sports culture of dodge ball are in the intertwined web of the sports alienation, space deprivation, and gender stereotyped and personal sports experiences. Gender stereotyped is constructed and developed in the dodge ball, but woman and man are treated differently in the process of gender stereotyped, and based on that, different view of sports take shape. However, the hegemony mechanism of gender stereotyped construction will no longer be stable, for the “new pattern” dodge ball teaching can possibly disconstruct gender stereotyped and rewriting of the older discourse. In the last part of this study, we hope that, in addition to the expectation for the students’, teachers in school can encourge the students to share their sports experience and provide multiple demonstrations to make the student’sports ability more flexible. This study pays more attention to the single aspect of the dodge ball and the thoughts of the students. As for the other field research, the teachers’ sports experiences and thoughts can be further explored in the future.

A total of 300 copies were dispatched, 276 of the questionnaires were effective, 92% of the returned questionnaires were valid. Descriptive statistics, t-Test, One-Way ANOVA and Pearson Correlations were used to analyze the collected data, resulted in several conclusions as below: 1. Among the leadership behavior of the dodge ball coaches at elementary schools in Tainan City, “Training and instruction” behavior is comprehended better while “autocratic” behavior is comprehended worse; in team cohesion, “Team adaption” is in higher need and the next is “team work” then “Interpersonal attraction” is in lower need. 2. In different genders: dodge ball players in the elementary schools in Tainan City did not reveal significant difference in the leadership behavior of the coaches. It is means that gender is not the factor which effects the leadership behavior of the coaches. In team cohesion, male dodge ball players were significantly higher than female players in the following aspects: “team work“, “team adaption” and “ team cohesion in totality”. 3. In different grades: dodge ball players in the elementary schools in Tainan City did not reveal significant difference in the leadership behavior of the coaches and team cohesion. It is means that grades is not the factor which effects the leadership behavior of the coaches and team cohesion in totality. 4. In different training days per week: dodge ball players in the elementary schools in Tainan City reveal significant difference in autocratic behavior. Furthermore, those who training 3-4 days or over 5 days per week are higher in autocratic behavior than those who training 1-2 days per week. And there is no significant difference in “ team cohesion in totality”. 5. In different years with coaches: dodge ball players in the elementary schools in Tainan City reveal significant difference in autocratic behavior. Those who are with the coach for 1-2years or more than 1 year are significantly higher than those who are with the coach for less than 1 year. 碩士
國立臺南大學
體育學系體育科教學碩士班
102
The purpose of this study was to explore factors which influence participating motivation and coach leadership of dodge ball players from Tainan elementary schools. The subjects were players in Tainan Autumn Dodge Ball League, a team of elementary students. There were 300 questionnaires distributed, 283 reclaimed, and with a valid rate of 94%. This study adopted questionnaire survey, and drew on descriptive statistics, independent sample t test, one way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and regression analysis to process data, with results inducing below: 1. The highest affecting factor on motivated participation was “skill requirement” while the lowest was “social needs.”; in perception of coach leadership behavior,“ training and guiding” leaded to the best leadership affect while “Autocratic Behavior” to the worst. 2. Gender factor which tended to influence motivated participation and coach behavior on subjects, namely, males had higher average than females. 3. The fifth grade primary schools players had higher “health fitness,”“social needs” and “overall participation motivation” than sixth graders’ did. However, grade is not the main factor affecting subjects’ perception of coach leadership. 4. Year experience involved in dodge ball team: Players with more than 2 years of experience had highest “health fitness” and “overall participating motivation”; in perceiving coach leadership behavior, players with over 2 years experience had higher perceiving than those with 1~2 years and below 1 year on “training and guidance”, “empathy behavior” and “rewarding behavior”. Players with experience below 1 year had higher perceiving of “autocratic behavior” than those with 1~2 and over 2 years. 5. Training time per week:Players with 3~8 training hours had higher motivation than those over 8 hours and below 3 hours. On perceiving coach leadership behavior, those below 3 hours and 3~8 hours were both higher than over 8 hours. 6. There was a positive correlation between participating motivation and coach leadership behavior from each scale of Tainan City Primary schools’ dodge ball players(p<.05). By regression analysis, the three factors, “skill requirement”, “health fitness” and “social needs”, had significant predictive capacity on “overall coach leadership”, and were all positively predictive. Both participating motivation and coach leadership in gender, year experience, and training time per week reached a significant difference. In addition, participating motivation in grade also reached a significant difference. There was a positive relationship between participating motivation and coach leadership. Participating motivation could predict coach leadership effectively.

Abstract:
93
Since the video-game host is put into commercial production, video games have stepped into people’s life, played an important role in the leisure life, and produced the operating interface – Game Pad, commonly used in games. With the progress of the era, a variety of games are derived, and operating interfaces are also diversified continuously. Despite of the diversification of operating interfaces, the manipulation of games often relies on one or two regular interfaces. Considering the fact that there are many studies on extended applications of Joystick in other fields and there is no comparison between studies on Game Pad and Joystick, this paper hopes to apply the two interfaces to the dodge type game of labyrinth obstacle, compares the difference between the two operations and probes the interdependence between interfaces and factors in the obstacle dodge type game. In this paper, Maya 6.0 software is employed to construct a game required in the experiment, and Virtools Dev3.0 used to design and edit game programs. By means of a questionnaire, gather game background information of subjects, and select appropriate subjects to carry out the experiment game mission. The experiment mission is composed of the experimental factors – two major control interfaces Joystick and Game Pad, and three attribute game gates – action gate, Opportunity gate and dodge gate, which are mutually cooperated. To prevent the influence on learning effect, the subjects are divided into two groups, and the experiment carried out by using the sequence of different interfaces and game gates. During the experiment mission, record the two objective criteria of this experiment, time of mission completion and number of obstacle collision. Upon completion of the experiment, carry out questionnaire investigation into subjective assessment, and regard six indexes as the objective criteria of this experiment, namely, learnability, challenge, achievement, controlling pressure, fatigue and entertainment. After analysis of the objective and subjective criterion data obtained in this experiment on the basis of the dependent double factor variance and the dependent specimen T verification, we have attained several major findings from the game design and operating interfaces. Firstly, the obstacle gate, action gate, Opportunity gate and dodge gate, which are classified according to the three design principles, show to users the different eases. Therefore, when designing ease of gates, we can understand what principle should be used to design obstacle for the enhancement of game difficulty or what obstacle should be used to design a scenario gate to be passed through more easily, and this can act as a reference for the same type of game design. Secondly, when a game is designed to seek after difficulty and entertainment effect, better entertainment effect can be obtained by selecting Joystick than by selecting Game Pad to manipulate a character’s action. Thirdly, when a game is designed to pursue different game goals, for example, to boost up learnability in respect of young gamers but to reduce operation fatigue and to seek for performance in time competition in respect of gamers who focus on leisure game play rather than difficulty, Game Pad acting as a game interface can achieve better operation representation. Through such research and analysis, this paper is expected to provide game designers with reference for designing games of the same kind and related operating interfaces, bringing more entertainment and more definite reference indexes to games.

Abstract:
101
The Influence of an Empowering Sports Model on Elementary School Students’ Sense of Responsibility: A Case Study of a Dodge Frisbee Curriculum Abstract This study analyzes the impacts of two distinct teaching models on the performance of elementary school students in learning responsibility: an empowering sports model and the traditional physical-education teaching model. The research method adopted an experimental approach involving elementary-school sixth graders from a single class and students sampled from 10 classes as research participants. The experimental group, which used the empowering sports model, comprised 16 males and 17 females aged 12.43 ± 0.23; the control group, which used the traditional physical-education teaching model, comprised 20 males and 20 females aged 12.42 ± 0.32. At the end of a 10-week experimental-instruction period comprised of 20 classes, the pretest and posttest results of a physical-education student responsibility scale were used as data for comparison. In addition, the students’ reflections were recorded to investigate their perceptions of their learning process. This study applied a dependent samples test, a one-way analysis of covariance, and other statistical methods and organized the students’ learning reflections to conduct data analysis. The results were as follows: (a) the empowering sports model showed significant improvements in learning regarding the responsibility dimensions of self-direction, respect, helping others, and collaboration. (b) The traditional physical-education teaching model showed no significant differences regarding the students’ performance in learning responsibility. (c) Students participating in the empowering sports model showed superior improvement in learning regarding the responsibility dimensions of helping others and collaboration compared to those in the traditional physical-education teaching model. (d) The students’ level of identification with the teaching method of the empowering sports model was considerable because the team competitions promoted the learning of responsibility among students and stimulated individual potential, cultivated collaboration and a sense of respect among classmates, and fostered the students’ ability to help others and their communication skills. Therefore, the following conclusion was achieved from the mentioned findings: the empowering sports model more effectively improved the students’ learning of responsibility than the traditional physical-education teaching model. Abstract:
94
The main idea of the study is about the impacts of different teaching activities, genders and the time of pretests and achievement tests on elementary school students’ self-efficacy, cognitive anxiety and attendance motivation in dodge ball inter-class games. Our study objects are the students of 4 Grade 5 classes from Pingtung’s 3 different schools each of School Year 2005. 194 boys and 192 girls, boys age:11.4±0.7yr, height:141.0±6.22cm, weight:42.4±11.38kg;girls age:11.3±0.4yr, height:141.8±6.9cm, weight:38.13±9.18kg. The research methods we adopt are experimentation and questionnaire survey. The research tools are the data we are about to collect from the “self-made questionnaires about elementary school students’ self-efficacy, cognitive anxiety and attendance motivation”. We’ll give each of the class different teaching activities for 4 weeks as well as relative questionnaires before and after the activities. We’ll analyze the data from the achievement tests by Pearson’s Correlation to discuss the students’ self-efficacy, cognitive anxiety and attendance motivation in dodge ball games. As for the design of this experiment, “the teaching methods”, “genders” and “test time” are the self-variable items. The scores getting from the self-efficacy, cognitive anxiety and attendance motivation in dodge ball inter-class games are dependent variable items. We use “three-way analysis of variance” to examine their differences. If the interaction among them could meet the significance level of statistics, we’ll examine it by “simple interaction”. In addition, we’ll also examine them by “simple simple main effect”. α=.05 is the significance level of this study. The results of the research are as below: 1. The students with relatively higher self-efficacy have lower cognitive anxiety and stronger attendance motivation. We can also say that the students having stronger attendance motivation have lower anxiety during the games. 2. Different teaching activities can result in obvious different self-efficacy outcomes in girls’ achievement tests of dodge ball games. The self-efficacy of the instruction group is higher than homogeneous group and control group, the mixed group has the lowest self-efficacy. From the pretest results of different genders’ teaching activities we find that the boys’ self-efficacy is generally higher than the girls’. The achievement test results of the instruction group and homogeneous group have no obvious differences between boys and girls. As for other groups’ pretest and achievement test results, the achievement test result of boys’ mixed group and girls’ instruction group are higher than their pretest results. The achievement test result of the girls’ mixed group is lower than its pretest. 3. Different teaching activities can also result in obvious different cognitive anxiety outcomes in girls’ achievement tests of dodge ball games. The cognitive anxiety of the mixed group is higher than control group and homogeneous group, and the instruction group has the lowest self-efficacy. Besides the mixed group, the achievement test results of the instruction group and homogeneous group all have obvious differences between boys and girls. Basically, the girls’ results are higher than the boys. As for the instruction and homogeneous groups’ achievement tests result, there’re no obvious differences between them. The boy mixed group and girl instruction groups’ pretests and achievement tests result of cognitive anxiety are lower than the results of the cognitive anxiety pretest. The girl mixed group’s achievement test result is higher than the result of the pretest. IV. Besides, different teaching activities can result in obvious different attendance motivations in girls’ achievement tests of dodge ball games. The attendance motivation of the instruction group is stronger than homogeneous group and control group, the mixed group has the weakest attendance motivation. Excluding the mixed groups, the pretest results of different genders’ teaching activities reveal that the boys’ attendance motivation is generally stronger than the girls’. The achievement test results of the instruction group and homogeneous group have no obvious differences between boys and girls. The boy mixed group and girl instruction groups’ pretests and achievement tests result of their attendance motivation are higher than the results of its pretest. The girl mixed group’s achievement test result is lower than the result of the pretest.

106
Our daily life has been changed by information technology dramatically and the same as our education system. Nowadays physical informational infrastructure for teaching and learning is well equipped with these changes. In this modern world where the information facilities are so easily available, it is teachers’ responsibility to be capable of latest information technology themselves as well as enrich their teaching variety with these techniques. Therefore, learning in more efficient way with good performances from students is now an important issue in schools. The study focuses on how information technology can be applied to dodge ball and what learning result will have. The whole research is quasi-experimental design. The subjects are sixth grade students in Kaohsiung Municipal elementary school, which are divided to experimental group and control group. For the former one, information technology integrates into instruction and students receive researcher’s teaching materials and courses. For the latter, traditional lecture is given to students only. The whole experimental period is eight weeks. Actual on-site observation method and dodge ball learning motivation scale are adopted as research tools to collect statics. SPSS statistical analysis, independent sample T test and Paired-Sample T test are used to analyze the data and understand the differences for learning motivation and the learning outcomes among students. The following conclusions can be obtained from this study: 1.Integrating information technology into instruction is good for students’ performance in dodge ball throwing skill significantly, such as throwing accuracy in different distance. 2.The traditional dodge ball lecture provides less contribution to students for their performance in dodge ball throwing skill. 3.Integrating information technology into instruction has partial effect on students’ learning motivation. 4.The traditional dodge ball lecture has no effect on students’ learning motivation.
